For some reason, the background of buildings, paths and trees in the painting make me think of Japanese style painting. Not sure why but it is easy to imagine it on a Japanese vase or pottery. 120 The British Army has released a new advert showing a Muslim soldier praying as it defied critics of an inclusive recruitment campaign which critics have called politically correct.
The new film, called Keeping My Faith, shows a soldier taking off his helmet and kneeling down in prayer while his comrades wait respectfully nearby. Posted by: JTB at January 15, 2018 09:51 AM (V+03K) I wonder how much of the earth tone thing is by design, or if it's the age of the painting. Leo used to do a LOT of experimentation with new paints and techniques, some of which didn't have the longevity of existing paints. Best example of that is The Last Supper. He used radically different fresco techniques in order to achieve the effect he was after, but those techniques also tended to fade and attract mold, to the point that the original painting was virtually destroyed in less than 100 years. It may be a coordinated effort by Deep State, because they know Trump is coming down with some heavy moves against their sedition. So they are "getting ahead of the story" by pushing the Stalin thing. That EO declares an emergency and a sort of RICO Act for international drug/human trafficking. Some big names are likely to get rolled up under that act ... or America better hope these seditious traitors get taken down. They really intend to rule over us, and their NWO would break them free of NationStates and our "silly laws". For a long time they have used our laws as a weapon (Lerner/Holder/Lynch) ... and taking them down will not be easy. Screams of "Stalin, Racist, Tyrant, Deplorable" will get louder. Ok, fellow Hordlings, I didn't get a chance to ask this question on the Gun Thread yesterday: I just took delivery of a Ruskie SKS I bought off of gunbroker. It was a helluva deal ($530, included all the accessories, looks to be unfired since armory refurb), so, yeah, I'm pleased. I'm considering buying a 200 round pack of the Yugo Surplus 7.62x39 SGAmmo: how much of a clean do you need to do after shooting that stuff in a semiautomatic? Basic field strip is fine by me, but if I have to actually take out the FCG and clean it (an old IV8888 video seemed to recommend that), then I'm likely to just pull the rounds off the clips and stash the ammo for a rainy day and just shoot Golden Tiger. I also really don't want to remove the trigger group more than absolutely needed: the bedding on that thing is tight and I don't want to screw it up considening it seems to be set up kinda like a M1 Garand in that respect.

From Wiki.
The phrase refers to an ancient belief that swans (Cygnus spp.) sing a beautiful song just before they are to die, having been silent (or alternatively, not so musical) during most of their lifetime. This belief, whose basis in actuality is long-debated, had become proverbial in ancient Greece by the 3rd century BC, and was reiterated many times in later Western poetry and art. There are more than five Christians in England, but the growing churches tend to be evangelical with clear beliefs and intentionally reaching out to people. Here's an example:
http://www.calvary-brighton.org.uk/beliefs/ I think the growth among Muslims in greater than that of Christians which is a scary thing. Hopefully the Christians in Europe are praying for revival so that God might be glorified and Christ lifted up. Unfortunately so many of them worship a political ideology. Posted by: lin-duh at January 15, 2018 10:18 AM (kufk0) Yes, Chelsea Manning is a felon. No, at the federal level, Senators are required to be at least 30 years old, a citizen for at least nine and a resident of the state they wish to represent. House requires minimum age to be 25, citizen for seven and resident of the district they represent. Any other restriction can be set by an individual state, but most do not. When Jim Traficant, D of Youngstown Ohio fame was convicted of taking bribes, filing false tax returns, etc. and was sentenced to , I think, seven years in the pen, he had to be formally expelled out of the House. While he was in prison, he ran for his old seat in the House and received 15% of the vote. The seat was won by Tim Ryan, D who is still in it today, and was trying to run for minority speaking against Pelosi this past election cycle.

We've already seen what he can/will do when angered, why the hell would anyone put him in another position where he could do so much damage? aybe this is ore like an Al Sharpton presidential run: it's not about winning, it's about the publicity and the $$$ collected during the race. The Feds: We don't need to make it a Federal law. After all, who would be stupid enough to run a convicted Felon, proven to be willing to disclose secrets which would threaten national security?
Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at January 15, 2018 10:35 AM (EyPfd) --- That's probably it. If you read the Federalists on the federal right of unlimited taxation, you'll find that they believed that the absolute limit of federal tax is the extent that the people tolerate it. Because it was thought that if the people found it too big of a burden, they would address that through their representatives. I think they hoped that it wouldn't become popular to start writing IOUs to yourself from the treasury, and thus get into the situation where you have a tax rate you don't want, but people keep telling you it's irresponsible to cut back because of all the money you owe yourself. 26 Andy McCarthy takes apart the whole Russia Collusion bullshit narrative while still getting his shots in at Trump.
Unfortunately, McCarthy's spouting off before he knows all the details has become a feature, not a bug, imo. His deep desire to keep DOJ clean, while painting Simpson as a victim and Trump as the devil incarnate deserving of Simpson's lies and untruths, doesn't quite square w some interesting details others, like Sundance at the CTH, have revealed as to the involvement of the FBI/DOJ. Maybe Andy should just STFU until the whole sordid truth of the DOJ/FBI involvement reveals itself. Posted by: Ever at January 15, 2018 10:43 AM (OLS0m) 319

About half of Oahu is hollow. It already was before nukes, because of fleet oil and battleship gunpowder and, water. The cold-war era stuff stayed secret for a long damn time, but, ask any bus driver on a Pearl Harbor tour.
If you're in a key military position or "know somebody" there are places to be that can take a direct hit from anything but a planet-cracker. Now, getting the whole population of Honolulu under cover in 20 minutes is a completely different kettle of poke. It's probably harder now that we have half a dozen social media (200 million twitters of "Is this for real?"), and suddenly quite a modicum of doubt. Here is another big secret: If you have a long-range missile, but a crappy guidance system, you plant an agent with a one-note transmitter. Homing is easy. You only need satellite nets and celestial navigation if you can't be sure of getting an agent to your target area, or you want to keep all your spies alive. Whatever Trump said was in the context of a private meeting with Congresscritters to make it clear he wouldn't support a DACA bill that keeps having us bring in refugees from the Third World for supposed humanitarian reasons. Third World = Hellhole = Shithole, same meaning. FFS, we have temporary refugees that have been here for 20 years.
Durbin went right to the press to have Trump declared a racist. He had to know that this would blow up the negotiations, and I'd bet it was with Schumer's approval. The fight will be in the Senate, because of the need for 60 votes. Schumer was in a dilemma: leave the Dreamers in limbo, or give Trump his wall. Expect a government shutdown. Schumer hasn't thought this through.
Obama and Clinton made their government shut-downs painful for Americans, and gave fed workers a paid holiday. Trump can make a shut-down relatively painless for most Americans, and in effect furlough many fed workers without pay, and thereby win the stand-off. This can have significant long-term effects. And now, the classy poem 'Leda and the Swan' by W.B. Yeats to go with the painting:
A sudden blow: the great wings beating still Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill, He holds her helpless breast upon his breast. How can those terrified vague fingers push The feathered glory from her loosening thighs? And how can body, laid in that white rush, But feel the strange heart beating where it lies? A shudder in the loins engenders there The broken wall, the burning roof and tower And Agamemnon dead. Being so caught up, So mastered by the brute blood of the air, Did she put on his knowledge with his power Before the indifferent beak could let her drop? Did you see the one where the cherub was as boinking the swan from the rear? Posted by: Roc Ingersol at January 15, 2018 11:34 AM (8NLb9) 477
I had forgotten that Yeats poem. It does add power and context to Leonardo's image.
Thanks for the reminder, OM. Posted by: JTB at January 15, 2018 11:35 AM (V+03K) 478
there were 3 of them.
Posted by: jakee308 at January 15, 2018 11:18 AM (BOZML) According to the article I read, there were two, xxx059 was the "hero" car, and used in shots where McQueen was driving in close-ups. xxx058 was used for the distance shots, and stunts by the stunt driver. Because of All Hail Eris, I went and looked at quite a lot of images of Leda and Her Special Friend. I will say for sure that Leonardo's version is one of the more chaste and tasteful depictions. Yeah. Posted by: Stringer Davis at January 15, 2018 11:34 AM (H5rtT) good lord, yes. Posted by: Kindltot at January 15, 2018 11:37 AM (2K6fY) 480
Thanks, Friendly Neighborhood Slapweasel-for keeping up with the prayers requests and sending them to OM, as well as for your own prayers.

Wot, you had your multiple papacies, Guelphs and Ghibellines, Montagues and Capulets, and you have to speculate on whether Leonardo was a Republican?
We don't even know from partisan. We use "Borgia poisoners" and "misericord" as metaphors. It was a regular everyday thing for these guys. Posted by: Stringer Davis at January 15, 2018 11:43 AM (H5rtT) 483
479 ... The painting by Francois Boucher is almost modern etotica. I was surprised by just how explicit it is.

How about a moratorium on linking Washington Examiner pieces in the EMT?
There are already enough bullshit NeverTrumper sites I have to keep an eye on for not giving traffic without clicking through at sites like Insty's without having to be vigilant in the future here too. And if it's a site that can't let bullshit like the following get through whatever bullshit editorial oversight, it's not worth linking to in the first place. "Those statements come months after Trump said there were good people on both sides of the violence in Charlottesville, Va., over the summer, one of which included the KKK and neo-Nazis." Re: Tattoos.
I go to grocery store, see 18 yo chick with 2 kids under 3, home-brew haircut, drives little can-painted 12 year old Hyundai with at least one plastic duct tape window, ... and yet has 6000 f'n dollars of tats. Pays with gov't "money". P.S. This should have posted hours ago, I guess I didn't put a stamp on it... Re: SKS and corrosive ammo
So your position is that you'll never going to do a full cleaning of your FCG? Option 1) Shoot the 200 the first day out and then do a thorough cleaning of gun to understand it better. Option 2)Put ammo in dark corner and sell it during the next ammo shortage for some outrageous price.
