Sara Carter: Multiple Sources Confirm the FBI Used the Dodgy Dossier to Secure a FISA Warrant to Spy on Trump

So, why did the FBI and DOJ refuse to answer this basic question for a year?

Because everything you suspected is true.

The unverified dossier alleging connections between President Trump's campaign and the Russians was used as evidence by the FBI to gain approval from a secret court to monitor members of Trump's team, this reporter has learned.

...

Multiple sources told this reporter that the dossier was used along with other evidence to obtain the warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, known as FISC. The sources also stressed that there will be more information in the coming week regarding systemic "FISA abuse."

Sean Hannity also has sources confirming the same thing.

I asked it the way I did because when you get down to it, it doesn't matter how they obtained the warrant. Whether they had obtained a warrant entirely properly, the fact remains is they spied on the GOP candidate for political purposes. The warrant stuff really just goes to the depth of the spying. But I wonder if too much emphasis is being placed on the dossier and not enough on the spying?

73 Recall that (if this long reported and AFAIK undisputed info is correct), there were two applications for FISA warrants, one in the summer of '16, one in the fall. First one was rejected, second one was granted.

Nunes now has all of these documents (or access to see them). Which would have happened eventually, which makes DOJ's stonewalling difficult to explain (any crimes committed in the process would be amply, objectively documented by the nature of the process, so a "leak" from Congress about any of it changes nothing).

Note that ConservativeTreehouse guy now seems to believe that some of the surveillance may *not* have been based on a FISA warrant - but merely selective querying of the universal "take" of communications by NSA. Basically searches of all the comms in the universe, swept up by NSA, targeting Trump's team. It gets complicated in terms of the different legal authorities involved. Could well be both flavors of surveillance happened.

81 I came to the conclusion that nearly everything people have suspected about the left, even some of the more crazy conspiracy stuff, is true last year when the memos proved that nearly everything you suspected about the left, even some of the more crazy conspiracy stuff, is true.

Literally, watching email after email leak that wasn't even contested by the left, the media, etc. Proving what you figured was happening, was actually happening.

Yes, they really are working closely with the press to shape stories.
Yes, they really do hate minorities and are just using them for power.
Yes, they really are that corrupt.

In my fondest dreams, this criminal organization is totally destroyed, the Democratic Party is utterly wiped out, with hundreds in prison for their lives, thousands more for years in jail, and the very term "Democrat" makes people think of criminal, corruption, and racism. That the Klan and bribe-taking is the first thing people bring to mind. That leaders are proven guilty and admit their evil, spending the rest of their natural life in prison. That some are lined up against the wall and shot for treason. That the sweep takes up judges, politicians, journalists, academics, and all the rest, crushing this evil completely.

And then, I want a new party to rise that is somewhat leaning left, but not the crazy, extreme left, so that the GOP has competition and is kept in check by needing to fight against a valid opponent.

And I know that no such thing happens outside of a book or movie. Not in this world.

120 I think there are lots of degrees of blame here. I think there were a few bad actors, a few people who wanted to believe the worst about Trump, and some otherwise decent people who got swept up in the mess.

In some ways, I think the FBI operated on the basis of mass hysteria - some people believed all the dire things about Trump they were told, over and over, by the media and the democrats. They acted accordingly.

When someone is fooled, cheated, and otherwise humiliated, there is an extended period of time of denial. Especially for smart people. They just can't conceive that they were very, very wrong. That they got tricked, or fooled. So they hide facts, make excuses, say "you had to be there." I think that is what we are seeing.

184 to put it another way, it was a conspiracy of the like minded. Clinton wanted dirt on Trump. Fusion GPS took the job out of greed. They hired Steele because he was a super spy. The Russians played Steele, fed him bullshit (just to fuck with the U.S. election). Steele was alarmed and took his crap to the FBI. The FBI didn't investigate it very well, trusting Steele, used it to get a FISA warrant. They didn't find crap, however, the fact that they were tapping Trump sounded fishy, and Power and Obama made sure everyone knew about it.

The decisions, the narrative, all of it...I don't think there was a master plan, just stupidity, greed, power hunger, pre-conceived notions, overestimates of their intelligence, etc. which led us down this path. A chain of fools.

Many years ago when I was a city girl, my BF was a South Philly type, born and bred. You wouldn't know it to look at her, she was light haired and green eyed and stunningly gorgeous. She had none of the "street" appearance of a lot of the S. Philly girls.

She got in trouble with the law, specifically the bank she worked at. (OK, she was caught in an embezzling scheme). One day she heard the doorbell ring. She went downstairs to answer and lo and behold it was a female fibbie who wanted to talk to her.

My friend had only one question for her: Do you have a warrant?

So fibbie lady was D-E-N-I-E-D. She probably never expected a 25 yr old street urchin to know her constitutional rights.

When my pal related that story I had a new respect for her. She is one of the truly badass females I have known, my mom and grandmothers being the other three.

I recently discovered, to my great amusement, that many Leftists think that the US base at Guantanamo Bay no longer exists.

I recently participated in a conversation at a party in which I learned that my liberal friends

a. Don't know the difference between the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and the detention center within the base. In fact, they think the whole thing is just one big detention center/illegal prison.
b. Think that when Obama announced he was "closing" Guantanamo, that he actually followed through with his promise. They had no clue that Obama never actually did close Guantanamo.
c. They think than when Obama "closed Guantanamo," the whole base shut down and was evacuated and returned to the Cubans or something. They had no idea that even IF Obama had "closed Guantanamo," he would only have closed the detention center, which is just 1% of the overall base, which would have continued operating as normal.

When I tried to inform them of the real facts, they thought I was joking and pooh-poohed my "ridiculous" statements and then changed the subject.

In general, the warrant application process is a fucking joke. I am not entirely certain what difference there is, if any, for getting FISA warrants. However, to me this is like presenting a Harlequin Romance book to a judge as a basis for getting a warrant to monitor Fabio's phone and email communications.

249 Well, that'll happen when you require a 2/3rds majority to fire a judge.

And while I understand the argument behind that decision, it should have been just a simple majority. Because judges shouldn't be protected that much. You cannot hold judges above the law to that degree, requiring a ridiculously high standard of proof and extreme corruption to be removed.

at 6:30 in this link, Binney explains that the agencies lie to each other as well, about how money is spent ... they just take the money, no real accounting. (maybe partly how Obama had pallets of cash to toss around to friends ... probably much more than that one plane)

Glad you asked. They dug under a spot marked by a rock with runes that only a Zoroastrian priest could've carved. Two hundred unlikely feet down, they found shards of pottery that *look* like they came from a Ming cremains urn. 282 Warai-toko, I'll defer to anyone more familiar with judicial mechanics, but I don't believe SCOTUS can do anything more than write nasty rebukes in their rulings overturning lower courts. They have no administrative punitive power for substantive malfeasance, which is what we're talking about. AFAIK.

Of course SCOTUS itself has become increasingly lawless, though usually with fewer histrionics than the circuits and districts have shown for the last year.

But it's all just a case of drawing closer to the reductio ad absurdum that follows from "judicial supremacy", giving the only unaccountable branch supreme power (an arrangement so diametrically opposite to the fundamental design and spirit of the constitution that it is literally humorous). Eventually that branch begins to usurp authority and abuse it.

Yeah yeah yeah Congress has utterly failed to use its power to restrict and reform the judiciary. Arguably the executive has failed, presidents have violated their oaths, by submitting to increasingly arbitrary and pernicious judicial lawlessness. But judicial supremacy as a concept is the problem. Such a solution only works if the judiciary adheres to law and the constitution - that is, understands their extremely modest and limited role in the process. Eventually the authoritarian instincts win, and here we are.

Yes there is, and much of it has been from me.

Watch this video. No, you don't have to watch the whole nearly 2 hours (but I have). Skip ahead to 1:43:50 and listen closely to the testimony of Admiral Mike Rogers and what he has to say about discovering abuse of he FISA 702 17, the "about" section of the FISA process.

This has to do with uncovering the communications of Americans caught up in spying on foreigners using the FISA process.

317 "An honest judge would've taken one look at that "dossier" and said "This is obviously bullshit, come back when you have something that actually supports issuing a warrant."

Or the Judge would have asked "is this really true, has this information been confirmed?" And the FBI agent would have insisted it was true and had been confirmed, and that the wire taps were all that was needed to save the country from the Russians.

Judges ask questions, and sometimes get lied to, or manipulated into agreeing to a bad warrant. Happens all the time. However, lies to a judge and ususally your ass is in a sling.

The coming Hillary election may well have emboldened various parties to think they could bend the rules with impunity.

Glad you asked. They dug under a spot marked by a rock with runes that only a Zoroastrian priest could've carved. Two hundred unlikely feet down, they found shards of pottery that *look* like they came from a Ming cremains urn. What's puzzling is that Shakespeare is known to have written "Titus" in Chinese and later translated it into English, and we know that Shakespeare-era parchment was found in Ass Grotto Number 7 last season...

Most of it had to do with sharing of unmasked, classified information. Previously, the information had been limited to a very small group if high level people but Obama loosened the rules to greatly expand the number of people who got the information in the raw form.

And just about that time, an enormous number of leaks started.

And in August of 2017, Sessions and ODNI Coates announced that they would be launching a new investigation to discover the source of the leaks. At last report, there were 27 currently open leak investigations being pursued by these investigations.

375 November 2016 Defense Secretary Carter and Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Clapper recommended to President Obama that Admiral Rogers be terminated as director of the National Security Agency. Carter reportedly recommended he be terminated due to poor performance, whereas Clapper considered it wise that the position be held by a civilian. His termination was reportedly delayed due to stalled changes to the bureaucratic structure of the intelligence community. During this time Rogers met with then President-elect Donald Trump without notifying his supervisors. The purpose of that meeting was to inform Trump of unlawful, secret electronic surveillance of his campaign and transition team by the Obama Administration. The next day Trump moved his transition team meetings from offices in Trump Tower in New York to National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

So, my guess? Rogers had some serious problems with spying on Trump, and voiced those concerns. He was then shown the door, but before leaving, he told Trump what was happening.

And I'm sure he effectively neutered any opposition by quietly informing them of what he knew. Congressional investigations, same thing. He also spied on judges and businesses and citizens who donated to his opponents.

Hillary wasn't President. She wasn't even SOS at the time.

Obama went along with the plan that Hillary would be POTUS and would cover up his criminality, so he covered up her criminality with more criminality.

Criminality that only a President could commit.

He weaponized the Justice Department, the FBI, and the Intelligence apparatus in what he thought was a sure fire way to ensure The Party would continue to rule.

A few years ago, I was reading an opinion on an illegal search and seizure and there was a throw away paragraph in the middle of it discussing the use by the police of infrared detectors to determine the locations of people in rooms inside a house prior to entry with the comment that the issue of body heat being detectable with equipment was not before the court at that time but the court assumed it would be shortly.

And I just slammed my head against my desk repeatedly because I could already envision the arguments that, hey, since your body heat radiates outside the walls of your home, that means you have no expectation of privacy regarding that and thus it is perfectly fine for the police to use such devices without a warrant because, after all, knowing where people are in the building makes it safer for the police to enter.

521 50 Hillary Clinton, in a bid to shift the blame for her loss to Donald Trump, created the Russian Collusion story. And as typical for Hillary Clinton, the only ones that had colluded with the Russians were her and the Democrats. And as things go, the press ran with this so hard that an investigation was opened that....proves it was Hillary and the Democrats, not Trump.

Another swell job by Hillary "own goal" Clinton.

Actually, this is all on Obama. He had to create sothing that would cover up his criminality.

He would have to do this whether Trump or any other honest candidate won.

As long as another criminal won, Obama was covered.

Hillary didn't keep up her part of the deal. That's how bad a candidate she was.

591 Kid gets a modeling gig (paid, presumably), gets to wear a neat sweatshirt with a funny slogan on it...

And these SJW bastard vampire monsters call him a fucking MONKEY!!

Dude!?!?! NO ONE was thinking that except for you brain damaged homunculi. Except now that kid (and literally every other Black kid who hears about this) gets to grow up subconsciously knowing that "We all think you're a monkey, but we're not allowed to say so."

What the ever lovin' hell.

========

This is why we'll never move past race.

Let's say a black woman in college is corrected by a white prof. She feels ashamed but thinks, "I need to study this better". Then, a well meaning SJW holds her hand and says, "Hon, he never should have corrected you. That was racist".

Now whenever she is corrected she will think it's racism, and she will also subconsciously suspect that white SJWs think she's stupid and needs to be protected from criticism. She will never integrate.

No, that was just the British government. They kept using that into the 1700s to interrogate prisoners in Newgate prison.

We crack jokes like you wouldn't believe, precisely because racial humor is funny. Or maybe it's because we enjoy irony and met humor. I dunno..... I'm not even supposed to be here today.

Ingraham had him on her radio show a couple weeks ago. He was a lot more seriously hurt by his crazypants leftist neighbor than even what little bit was reported. Because it is an organized conspiracy to use lawfare to attempt to overthrow a duly elected government.

That's what it is.

Its still in process. "

It's really the end of the United States, and that presumes the republic even is viable, unless some of the coup plotters are tried, convicted and strapped to gurneys to await the needle. Given the level and depth of corruption, it's unlikely anything of the sort will be done.

And please stop with "most of the FBI are good people." Most of the dirtiest work, and it seems we have just seen the tip of the iceberg, was carried out by agents in the field. They were following orders, for the most part, and did so silently, complicitly, and gleefully. As ace points out frequently, we need a national divorce to avert catastrophe. Establishment D.C. has decided instead to speed up the importation of Third World foot soldiers to serve as its Hessians. This will not end well, but it will end.
