A Little of This. A Little of That.

Talk about a low down piece of scum. Man sells puppy for meth.

Deer. Not exactly a pet, but we do cover the world of animals. Daring rescue of a deer.

Dog put to work. Mush! Mush!!

More dogs put to work. Watch out where the Huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow.

Meet The PetMorons

dirt.jpg

gizmocat.jpg

We must look like soft marks because we have, not one, but two rescue kittehs. First was a Siamese mix, named sam.i.am, a/k/a “Dirt” because he likes to roll around in the dirt. Dirt was about 18 months old when someone dumped him out in the country (because everyone knows that country folk adopt any and all pets dumped out their way, amirite?). That was actually our lucky day! Dirt is what my cat friend terms a “great cat” because he has a good disposition and generally does not use his claws or teeth on the furniture or on the humans who cater to his every wish and demand. Dirt is an outdoor cat and genuinely prefers to be outdoors, except on chilly mornings when a warm bed is available.

Gizmo’s story is wildly different, as he was feral when he decided to crawl up in the skid plate of my truck to hitch a ride to his new home at the tender age of 12 weeks. Dirt discovered a presence in the engine compartment and, once released, the kitten ran to the woodpile. After a few days, Gizmo decided to become friendly with the food-giver, and even allowed a little lap time in return. Gizmo has matured but he’s retained that little kitten face. Dirt adopted Gizmo and showed him the ropes of living as a country cat. But Gizmo decided that being a full-time outdoor cat was a crazy idea, and decided to be a house cat instead. He also adopted the Scarlett O’Hara policy of never going hungry again (obviously!). Gizmo decided that the Christmas tree was erected as a tribute to him, so he uses it as his special hideaway and doesn’t try to climb it or grab at the ornaments. Guests to our home never see Gizmo since he runs and hides at the slightest indication of their arrival.

Thanks for all your work on the Pet Morons column. Love it and I never miss it! And thanks to Ace for allowing such a wonderful opportunity to bond with fellow Morons over our love for pets!

No need to thank me, it is you folks who keep this thread going.

Hard to believe that cute puppeh would have taste tested the entire apartment. Cute.

This my daughter-in-law's Bull Mastiff, Chyna. Conor has been a great help and reminds me of a mosquito, constantly buzzing around his girl friend Chyna, secure in the knowledge that he is the Alpha dog. I took this picture when Conor was discussing the "Canine Philosophy of Sharing Your Bones" with Chyna. The gratuitous snarling and growling must be heard to be believed, although no dogs were injured in the taking of this picture.

Hrothgar

It is so good to hear from you Hrothgar. Good to see Conor is in training mode.

Wingler was our Red Tri Australian Shepherd. She loved camping and hiking with us, swimming at Dog Beach, and playing at the park. We don't get snow in San Diego, so I drove her out to Mount Laguna to see snow for the first time. It was one of the best days of either of our lives. She passed in July of 2016, but we had 14 wonderful years with her. I still miss her every day. Thanks for letting me share- Robert the Bruce

She looks pooped after being in the snow all day. Thanks for sharing Robert the Bruce. We appreciate it.

Hi there. Permanent hermit-lurker and decade+ long fan of the HQ (just got my copy of the Cookbook!). This is my big guy Bubba. He's a Maine Coon; big, autistic (he is oblivious when I make eye contact with him), lazy as hell, chirpy and chatty, and a fur explosion. I got him from a rescue shelter 2 years ago I think he's about 4 years old. He knows how to chill and knows he runs the joint. Thanks Morons! -Lurker Art

A terribly abused looking critter if you ask the Horde. Thanks for the submission Lurker Art.

10 OT, but, where the action is:

I worked in federal premises for 30 years, and was dismayed as the guards were laid off, fences taken down, and the Civil Defense capabilities torn out. So what. End of History and all that (maybe not as true when I first started, or just before I left).

NOW we are going to have nationwide, federally-controlled CD back, double effin quick, and you can't help but wonder if this screw-up was deliberate.

Duck, and Cover. Well, better done under Trump than his predecessor.
I guess it must be about time.

My baby Zoey, the pudgy princess, finally noticed the snow today, I think due to the really large flakes that were coming down. She spent 15 minutes looking out at it, mesmerized. 15 Semi-serious question. Dog is constipated, so is there is some relatively easy fix? We gave him canned food, which usually does the trick, but he is pretty unhappy. Don't know if he knows that his kid is leaving tonight or tomorrow (although I am sure he does), but I would like to have an easier fix for him.

21 So, my cat is suddenly not really eating much.

I'd say about two tablespoons of food a day.

I have a vet appointment Monday, but I'm kind of freaking out. You see, she takes meds with her wet food, and will not touch it.

I've unsuccessfully tried:

-warming the food
-adding fish oil
-three different wet foods
-giving her yogurt
-giving her cheese
-different dry food

She will drink cat milk and shows a bit of interest in treats.

She is "eliminating" properly and shows no other symptoms. The vet gave me a bunch of different foods to try. She is... not interested.

I'm... concerned. And upset.

25 I would like to have an easier fix for him.

Home remedies for constipated pooches include canned pumpkin (NOT canned pumpkin pie mix); adding Benefiber or other unflavored wheat fiber product to canned dog food; or Metamucil. If the home remedies don't help, you may have to take him to the vet for an enema (do not try that at home).

Alternately, you could just let him listen to a Chuck Schumer speech.

Constipation can get pretty serious with a dog or a cat. Suggest putting some olive or fish oil in his food which might loosen his stool. Dehydration can be a problem with that too especially if he vomits after trying to poop. Vets usually prescribe a medication to loosen them up.

36 Shimbumi does she have a fur ball blocking her throat? Perhaps you have a bad batch of cat food, it does happen far more often than most people realize. I have a beagle sheltie mix, and she's meaner than a junk yard dog. I have worked with trainers, vet etc. but she thinks her job in life is protecting me and the yard from all who wonders near. It drives me nuts, people say how purdy she is and they refuse to believe she's a guard dog.

43 Howdy, pet people.

Time between hanging nice new floor-length curtains on the big west window and when the old gray cat was caught peeing on them - less than one day.

Threatened to toss him outside for the duration of winter. But, softies us, we let him back in after a while, with stern warnings. (Riiight.)

Milady baked a turkey yesterday morning. The old gray cat, mind you, gets up from resting like I do, creaking, moving slowly - usually. The moment Milady unwrapped the turkey he started meowering and racing around the house like a kitten on catnip.

I have this theory the cats bring us their "trophies" because we're such bad hunters that all we can give them is that stuff in the can. But, whoa! Suddenly we have that great big bird! Cat mind blown!

We figured out what Bailey pulls on her. If Kahlua is in Bailey's spot on the couch Bailey will go get a toy and start carrying it by Kahlua. So Kahlua gets off the couch to play, Bailey leads her into the other room, then comes back and takes her rightful place on the couch!

Yeah, I'm buying it by the dozen lately, since the pudgy princess started to get attitude that the boy was getting it and she wasn't. But my experience with it goes back many years. Get some turkey, beef and chicken, too, in case she's Jewish! Also, if you feel she's not hydrating right, you can get beef or chicken broth in cans - not the no-salt, you want the salt to make her thirsty enough to drink water, too. They love that stuff.I rarely do vets but have had some happy feline overlords over the years. :-) Let us know how it works out.

Tammy!!!! Just want to weigh in on the Fortiflora. When Cecil wasn't pooping and was barfing everything up, the vet said to put him on that. Which I did - it's ridiculously expensive but fine if it works, which it didn't. It actually caused him to be MORE constipated. I finally threw it out and went with the Excel Kittymalt Hairball remedy, which he gets every morning and that, along with the baby food, has kept me cat-barf free for many weeks now.

That's a very real thing, shi. I've had a lot of stress since buying this place and moving and I know the FOs respond to that. I have read that the best thing to do with any animal who seems unwell is to not act all worried about them but be very upbeat and fun and loving with them. I had a cat, many years ago, and I moved out of my ex-husband's place to my own place. He had the same issues. I went over, took him to the vet, then took him back home with me. He was instantly perfect again.

I was probably 30 before Mom told me the secret. Grandpas farm may have been 20 minutes of dirt road from the interstate, but on the other side it was the closest farm to town. Dumped pets were fine as long as they worked on keeping the rabbits, deer, and mice at bay. 170 We had to say goodbye to one of our cats this week. Biggie was 20 years old and the last of three littermates we adopted back in '98. We knew it was coming, we hoped he'd make it through the winter. Just in case though we prepared a spot for him in November, before the ground froze because we wanted him to be with his brothers if it came to that.

I think God made sure that our Biggie left us on the *one* warm day in January so that we could bury him with them. Thanks God. That was a kindness that I didn't deserve, but Biggie did. He was a wonderful cat.

I'll bite. You. Obvioulsy missed the numerous mainstream articles about the specific one sided calls and no calls by the refs that gave Albama the game costing us at least 16 points.

Even Paul Finebaum. An Alabama homer and Saban worshipper said the refs cost UGA the game, forced us to play conservative, and the better team lost.

The NCAA football officiating needs to be held accountable, which they are not, and they need to be full time refs, which they are not. Massive reforms are in order for NCAA college refs who are usually pathetic on a average day and are treated like holy judges who cannot be criticized without severe penalty.

I've never seen a uproar on a national level about NCAA college refs before except ESPN being oddly silent.

Done and Dome.

Nice special effects, but kind of meh on plot. The "spirit animals" in it were kind of aspects of the people's personality, part of them, constantly hanging around. I'm not sure if they were portrayed as anything else in the books which I've never read.

A familiar is more of a spirit (within an animal) in the service of an occultist such as a witch, that will act as a spy and do their bidding.

You're banned from broadcasting, but you don't know it.

With a regular ban, you can't log in and post your tweets.

With a shadow ban, you can still tweet, but your followers don't get them. So you don't get re-tweeted.

No indication that has happened, like a normal ban gets you. That's why it is a "shadow" ban. Your voice has been disconnected from the community.
