Street artist Sabo takes credit for 'She knew' posters targeting Meryl Streep

According to the article, Sabo is "right wing," presumably because he has the balls to criticize Hollywood royalty.

What stuns me is how gullible Streep and company must think we are. Do they really think that any sentient being accepts the obvious bullshit that they didn't know all about Weinstein and others like him?

And then this rancid retard has the gall to criticize the Trump women for not being sufficiently "woke" and speaking out on sexual harassment.

Chutzpah: killing your parents then begging the judge for mercy on the grounds that you are an orphan.

37 JackStraw, to answer your question from last thread.

Illegal migration and all its toxic implications, and bold action to end these, should be the lead issue. Along with full repeal of O-care. These are truly "differentiation" issues.

The point, given the realities, is not to pass things before November, but to put maximum pressure on Dems (and select GOP, if only the WH would realize Corker and Flake are not the last that need to be dealt with), and take them out. Take them out because on those and perhaps other issues, which were central to Trump's election, they hold unpopular positions.

The most basic mid-term strategy there is, for an historically unusual situation in which the WH (previously it was the "Tea Party") is closely identified with positions that are popular, while the Dems and some GOP are aligned with unpopular positions.

"Infrastructure" clouds things, it does not produce bright lines (barring a complete reversal of historic norms). Davis-Bacon. Labor unions. The fundamentals haven't changed that much (and I consider both the Keystone obstruction and O-care "cadillac" plan surtaxes extreme outliers only possible because of the radical WH at the time - Schumer is not a kamikaze pilot).

Most of the big issues dealing with illegal immigration including the wall, chain migration, the lottery and DACA are being argued right now as part of the spending bill that needs to pass before the 19th or we get a shutdown. So pretty contentious.

Repeal is not going to happen this year so they can do that but then people will bitch that it's all failure theater because nothing will happen.

I'm not convinced doing immigration in January and then doing nothing for 9 months is a winning strategy for Republicans in the fall.

I cannot think of a single actress today like that. Nobody. Maybe there are some out there I am not remembering. But seriously, women can act, why aren't we getting lots of truly great ones?

Because they aren't being cast for talent and skill. They're being cast for their ability to flatten a mattress with their back and look good doing it.

98 JackStraw of course I'm not recommending "doing nothing" for 9 months, quite the opposite. And there are plenty of immigration issues that will not be resolved in the ridiculous late CR. In fact, probably almost none of them will be materially advanced therein.

Aside from that there seems to be a problem with the basics here. Politics (back when it existed in Congress) was, most of the time, forcing votes on contentious issues, with the hope of using said votes against incumbents. In my time there I'd say 80% of the votes fit in that category. It is not assumed/needed that you get big, conclusive results. It is vital to get people on the record and generate ammo against them.

Failure theater criticism (while often absolutely legitimate) is not a thing with the wider electorate that will determine how many GOP seats exist in the next Congress (esp. Senate). GOP can campaign against "obstructionist, do-nothing" Dems - as has often been successfully done against both sides in the past - on issues that got Trump into the WH. That's my basic point.

Infrastructure will be of no political use against Dems - unless, against the odds and the fundamentals of one of their key base components, they do a basiji mass-dash across the minefield by completely opposing it. Otherwise, much more likely, it merely muddies the distinctions. McCaskill and Heitkamp et al vote for it. Basically a non-factor in the election.

Recall the main challenge in mid-terms is for the WH to generate enough energy to get *its* base to the polls, to avoid the typical opposition party gains. Way you do that is contentious issues. Which also give you angles/ammo against incumbent Dems.

You keep saying that but I completely disagree. A huge part of Trump's campaign was based on a giant infrastructure bill and it will play well with a significant part of his base as well as many Democrats who will benefit from it.

And it puts the Democrats in an awkward bind, do they vote against something they have been advocating for for years simply because of Trump or do they vote for it and prove that Trump is not a psychotic monster who is always wrong?

The reality is that the party in power almost always loses badly in the first mid-term of a new president, the average is something like 24 seats. They currently have a big majority but if they want to keep that big majority they better deliver some results. This is one of their best chances because nothing is getting through the Senate this year with 51 votes. Budget reconciliation is no longer an option so anything that passes is going to need 60 and that means Democrat support.

We'll see how much they can get done on immigration before the 19th, I'm not as pessimistic as you, but if they don't then the environment changes dramatically and all bets are off on current thinking.

144 JackStraw I wouldn't get your hopes up about the "blue wall" cracking - at least not more than a few small leaks.

That we can even be in this situation - where a swarm of mega-scandals unprecedented in our history is, literally, unknown to most people (esp. "high disinformation" consumers of MSM crap) - should factor into our speculation.

There are literally so many huge scandals (real ones, most involving criminality of sorts and at a level never seen in our history) I can't even remember them all unless I write down a list.

Yet ...... you probably know, and I certainly know, many many people who are almost completely unaware of them. IRS and Benghazi. For anyone with a background in govt. and media, older than 30, those chapters alone were stunning. Enormous scandals - absolutely no press interest, and zero traction with the high-disinformation crowd.

Things have only gotten worse, as even larger mega-scandals come into view - with limited public understanding or interest.

Small leaks in the blue wall are meh. Still find it hard to believe any of these mega-scandals will be treated the way they should be (and which would result in political damage comparable to the Watergate mid-terms of '74). Do you see the press camped out on Comey's lawn, yelling questions at him? Ditto for any of the other principals? Do you see these gigantic explosive stories leading - or even being included - in the "news", with anything like the detail and energy they deserve?

In a country that remains beyond parody - a ridiculous "investigation" of "collusion" with Russia continuing, baseless and utterly farcical (not to mention illegal under the regs), while a swarm of mega-scandals unprecedented in our history remain obscure to most people - my confidence is very low. Guess we'll see.

170 Seller pays the costs. The seller will pay for your agent. Get your own real estate agent and let him represent you. Call around, there is an agent out there who will honestly tell you what to expect (it should coincide with your number or better) and then deal with the seller.

Posted by: gNewt at January 07, 2018 02:17 PM (FS/ip)

Good advice, but be aware of where your agent's interests lie: in closing the deal, more so than getting you the best deal. Bear in mind that he's effectively negotiating against his own interests, because the less you pay, the less he gets paid.

171 The DOJ OIG report should be a start. What I expect is not just that the FBI tanked the Hillary investigation. It'll show a small cell involved, who are also tied to Russian Collusion and were even on Mueller's staff. That's for openers.

I expect a few more big reveals in the run-up to the SOTU at the end of the month. Stuff MSM can't ignore.

173 Comments section completely unsuitable for this kind of discussion, JackStraw, but to close out, in a mid-term a WH has to get its voters to the polls, dramatic results are not in the picture due to the Senate situation you note, so what's needed are contentious issues *on which the Dems have an unpopular position opposed to the ones that got Trump elected*.

Disagree that infrastructure was a big part of Trump's victory, or even material. In that general category of economic issues, trade was the key.

And once again I will predict its extremely unlikely that the Dems who matter (those up, and vulnerable) will have the slightest difficulty jumping in the pork trough set out by the WH (and it is a certainty there *will be* incentives for them of the usual variety). The extremist dead-ender Dem opposition to the monster Trump is not how McCaskill and others define themselves to their states. Recall that most of the vulnerable Dems' entire existence is based on a lie about their politics ("centrist" at home, mostly progtard in DC).

I find it amazing that people believe these sorts of Dems are in any sort of bind. These kinds of Dems never engage in the histrionics back home - they live a lie. Voting for pork for the home state is the extremely likely path, and there will be no political downside where it matters.

The biggest one being that the Obama DOJ routinely violated section 702 of the FISA law to spy on Americans without a warrant and it has been going on for years. It increased right before the election when it was used to spy on Trump and Obama relaxed intelligence sharing laws which led to rampant unmasking and leaking but the spying has been going on for a long time.

Make them vote against the RAISE Act (4 times). Make them oppose O-care repeal/relief for the devastate individual market (3 more times). Make them vote against border security funding, against binding approps language to end "sanctuary" lawlessness. Trump base voters (incl. Dems/I's) made him president based on issues, policies, not personality. Make the incumbent Dems in Trump states walk the plank, repeatedly, on the hottest hot button issues that made Trump president. It's the most basic political strategy there is (or was).

That's why I keep pointing out that I've never seen a better political situation on an important issue. All the leverage is with the WH. And the Dems make it even worse for themselves, by lashing themselves to the mast of the good ship DACA (actually, not very popular ship DACA).

Recall that enforcement priority - set by Trump with zero congressional say - has been violent felons and gang members, and select multiple illegal entry offenders. This can change in one hour. Even better, no need for an explicit, official change. Just body english. Posture.

"You know, I said all along that we had priority on other categories, waiting for Congress to act. But we've made a lot of progress in deporting really bad people. We're ramping up overall, and enforcement might start to affect these people the Dems claim to care so much about - but won't act to help, by adopting the whole package of things we need to make sure even a small amnesty is not a disaster, like all past ones have been."

Boom.

No need for infrastructure spending there as their state governments raise plenty of funds for that sort of thing (yes I know they wouldn't handle repair of federal roads and such, but hey, priorities).

The redlettermedia boys had an interesting take on that film. Said they were among many who complained the franchise was being controlled by Dinsey execs, and they desperately wanted one of these flicks to just be done by ONE person with a vision.

Then ol' Rian (what the hell, spell your name rite, dude!) came along, and they were like "Yes, one man's vision, but not THIS version of a vision!"

So they were kinda taking a poke at themselves (but not in a Hollowood perv way of taking a poke at one's self).

And actually I rather like Trump referring to himself as a "very stable genius". The media is appalled at what they perceive as his grandiosity (and certainly Trump is not self deprecating) but I think he does it not only as a defense, but it's a routine for him ; He puts on a big show to get them all riled up and it's quite entertaining.

I've posted this link a couple times but if you haven't seen it you should read it. Fusion has been involved with a lot more than just smear campaigns but much more nefarious actions like breaking into people's homes and threatening their families.

I worked in a different federal entity for a while. Literally, a make-work system, for people with no job skills, who don't do any actual work, and people with shedloads of education (and possibly very few job skills) who don't do any actual work.

The lower end people make well over minimum wage, but don't necessarily have to even show up. The people on the upper end make well above six figures, and do even less than the minimum wage folks.

And in between, it's hit and miss. Some dedicated employees, and slackers who don't give a damn.

No, what needs to happen is corporate America needs to stop responding to d'bags saying on twatter they're going to boycott xyz company. I don't like when they do it to conservative hosts and don't think we should stoop to that level.

However, when an advertiser does pull advertising from a conservative host (think Rush/Hannity) then I do feel we should complain loudly and take our money elsewhere.

Unfortunately, in talkradio Fortune 500 companies have bans on "controversial" talkshow hosts which includes all conservative hosts.

323 China finances a lot of Hollywood movies now, so that's the whole China angle. Richard Gere did a great interview about it, and the film work he is blacklisted from bcz of his friendship with the Dali Lama. China will not finance a project with Gere attached.

The market is more for China in many ways with some films. They don't care if it tanks here if it can sell in China and elsewhere.

I've been binge watching the new Twin Peaks. Part of me is hoping Lynch isn't one of the dudes who is part of Hollowood casting couch set. And I'm watching for Chinese influence... and not seeing any.

The early scene with Cooper, in a weird place, there's a woman who MIGHT be Chinese... it's hard to tell. She's speaking, but it's impossible to understand her, and then she's gone. I was wondering, it's impossible to make any sense of this stuff Lynch does, but was that supposed to be a knock on the Chinese?

I have no idea.

Of course, most of David Lynch's career has been in movies, rather than tv.

Mulholland Drive features the movie industry to a large extent. As does Inland Empire. Neither show Hollowood in a very flattering light. Although with Lynch, it's so damned abstract, it's hard to know what he's doing, precisely.

391 Several years ago I was listening to NPR (won't go into sordid reasons why now) and a man was talking about being a dress designer and having been promised by Gwen Paltrow to wear his frock at Academy Awards show. I think he had to supply the dress, shoes, wrap, and evening bag, all at his expense. Also delivery and pick-up. At the very last minute she dropped him for another designer. He described her as having a "just go away" attitude. These "stars" make millions. I don't think she is very far from the norm in Hollywood. You can have 'em.

Movies have come a long way. Dubbed movies don't look like they're dubbed anymore. Unless they're cheapo independents.

Very easy to match mouth movements with the new words. Plus the writers can adapt their script to the language required so that the dialog matches better when translated.

394 Wager time: Who thinks the GPS Fusion financial records will show a nice payment to the first few sources to start eluding to the infidelity of Ted Cruz during the Republican primary race? Simply put, they needed to narrow it down to one candidate so they could go to work on the dossier of the winner. About half way through the Republican primary it became a two man race. That was, until the infidelity claims starting pouring out and Trump (the less impressive candidate in the minds of the opposition) started pulling away, giving them time enough to prepare their "insurance policy." This was, also, when the unmasking went into high gear.

Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at January 07, 2018 03:39 PM (/qEW2)

Seriously, the goal of pleasing the Chinese is why the big budget movies have lots of explosions and other assorted noise. So the words spoken are of little necessity to understanding the film.

405 Here's what to remember about the Foreign Press who does the voting. 90 people. That's it. That's who made tonight's decisions.

"Millions of television viewers will tune in on Sunday to watch the Golden Globe Awards, one of Hollywood’s biggest and glitziest affairs that sets many movies on the path to Oscars glory.

But few are likely to know who actually decides on the winners.

This year, the voters include a Russian former body-builder turned actor, an ex-Miss Universe from South Africa and an ex-engineer from Egypt.

They are all members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a somewhat opaque group of about 90 journalists — and one of the most exclusive and secretive clubs in Tinseltown.

Though some members of the HFPA work for well-respected foreign media outlets, many are freelancers employed by obscure publications."

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at January 07, 2018 03:05 PM (8+Ozj)

She "was" one of the 40 ton statues.

474 Offer 260. In today's market 60 days is an eternity. Which means it is overpriced at 300k.

250. its a nice round number. and you van always go up if they counter. They might surprise and take it if they are motivated.

475 Seth Meyers has already said he wants Trump viewers take a hike regarding his show.

I really think we need to reevaluate TV broadcasting licenses as its now a form of campaign contributions.

These are public airwaves and if networks are going to start being
political on just one side of the aisle, maybe something needs to
change.

Posted by: Apache at January 07, 2018 01:43 PM (uc45P)
Is his show carried by "over the air" stations, or just cable? Because, if it's exclusively cable, no licenses involved.

476 >>At least for now, the Fusion GPS bank records will not be public. They will be released to the investigating committees (first the House Intelligence, but in effect, to all three, two Senate and one House) under confidentiality rules.

The only reason they haven't been made public already is because they are damaging to Democrats. If they hurt Republican Schiff would have leaked them immediately.

But we'll see them eventually.

478 "Harvey opened the floodgates," said one male Academy member. "Now the Academy's drowning in a tide of s--t. They don't know what hit them." . . .

"[We] can't regret [kicking out Harvey] because [we] didn't really have a choice," said one male member of AMPAS' board of governors. "Some members were quite vehement. But [we] didn't have time to really weigh out the repercussions."

... when you're swining in a sea of s--t, you don't stop worrying about the s--t.

You already helped just by asking. It may progress to where I need the Horde's advice, but right now I just have to deal with the front end of this dump trunk situation. Need strength & energy & endurance.

Ty for the prayer. So amazingly kind.

Over at PJ Media, a lurid and shocking tale of GPS Fusion smearing a real journalist who was exposing corruption in Venezuela.

485 They tell us over and over how important the Chinese market is, so we have to kiss their asses, then the most craven diversity-pandering film of recent memory tanks behind a domestic rom-com in their second week.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it 'pandering.' The character portrayed by an asian was an extremely annoying comic-relief character... and, I'd argue, was badly cast as well, with an actress who had whatever the opposite of charisma is.

The SJW's of Hollywierd picked an asian chick actress who they found as non-threatening to their statist-quo as possible, stuck her in a Jar-Jar Binks type role, and they're going to ask us, with a straight face, if we like it or we're raciss, bro?

486 We had the false documents and testimony demorat stooges insisting that accusations were no different than convictions where Judge Moore was concerned. In the aftermath many demorats are being accused and now the old standard of being innocent until proven guilty is again applied by the hypocritical lying deceiving molesting demorats that are accused.
