Paul Manafort Sues Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein, Claiming the Special Counsel's Charter Is Overbroad and He's Gone Beyond Even Those Limits

Good. Paul Manafort seems crooked as lightning, but it's unconstitutional to appoint a prosecutor to investigate ten people for literally anything.

President Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, took the unusual step on Wednesday of suing the special counsel and asking a federal court to narrow his authority.
Mr. Mueller is investigating the Russian government's meddling in the 2016 presidential election and whether anyone close to Mr. Trump was involved. As part of that investigation, prosecutors indicted Mr. Manafort on money laundering charges related to years of foreign lobbying -- but not related to Russian election interference or the Trump campaign.

Mr. Manafort argued in the lawsuit on Wednesday that Mr. Mueller had gone too far. He sued both Mr. Mueller and Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general who appointed him. The lawsuit said Mr. Rosenstein had improperly given Mr. Mueller the authority to investigate "anything he stumbles across while investigating, no matter how remote."

If true - Manafort voluntarily disclosed this information to the FBI years ago. They didn't see any crime then - he was not charged, and was a cooperating witness to the crimes of others. Mueller then decided well after the fact to reverse this decision, level charges, charges utterly unrelated to the cause of his investigation for unrelated events that occurred years before Trump even met Manafort.

Mueller was appointed as a Special Counsel, not a Special Prosecutor, and should have limited powers, but Rosenstein added some vague language that Mueller will try to rely on.

One reading is that Mueller is supposed to issue a report that Rosenstein can act on or not, and make public or not. Mueller can only prosecute obstruction related to his own investigation. That's a special counsel.

Mueller has twisted the extra language to act as a Special Prosecutor.

So Manafort could win on this.

Mueller is supposed to look into basic questions like "who hacked the DNC" and was it the Russians. If he ignores this, or relies on the report of the 17 spook agencies (including the Cast Guard and the Dept of Energy) it's a tell that Mueller is crooked and solely politically motivated. If so, I hope his ass gets Uranium Oned.

I had to laugh when Tony Soprano said that to his daughter because that's what my Italican mom always told us when we were growing up. La Cosa Nostra was still pretty strong around here in those days, a lot moreso than now, and you did not say the "M" word, especially around outsiders. I mean, we had an LCN capo living 3 doors down from us. And he lived directly across the street from a judge! It was that kind of 'hood.

The M word was like a dirty word in our house-it got you the wooden spoon.
