A New Jersey surgeon has had his license yanked over allegations he inserted used catheters into the rectums of at least five patients, state authorities say. Dr. Sanjiv K. Patankar, who practices in East Brunswick, is accused of re-using catheters on multiple patients over the course of nearly a year because he ran out of catheters and replacement supplies were on backorder, the state's complaint says.

Police are investigating the apparent electrocution of two people early Friday at a Detroit Public Lighting Authority building, Fox 2 reported on Saturday. A worker reportedly told Fox 2 he found the bodies just after 6:30 a.m. when he went to the substation to investigate a power outage. The pair are suspected of breaking in the front door of the substation, and, according to Fox 2, they were in the process of stealing copper wiring when they were electrocuted.
Inside the office, police explained to Stanley and Smith that they were under arrest. Officers say Stanley was holding $2,520 in cash and when they asked if he had a gun, he said he had a Ruger 9 mm that may have been stolen, according to the police report. After officers retrieved the gun and handcuffed Stanley, they then searched the black book bag that he was wearing. Police say the following items were inside Stanley’s bag and were seized: An estimated 3,190 doses of heroin inside waxed paper bagsSeveral thoughts come to mind. Does this individual have a felony record? If he does how is he released on such a low bail? Will this guy show up for future court dates?

NEW HARMONY, Utah -- A police officer punched his way through the ice of a frozen pond to pull an 8-year-old boy from under the water Monday. Lt. David Crouse of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said emergency crews responded to a report of a child who had fallen through the ice into a pond just after 5 p.m. in New Harmony, which is south of Cedar City in southern Utah. The pond is located near 3100 East and 2500 South. Crouse said an 8-year-old boy was chasing a dog and fell through the ice. Another boy who was watching this happen went and tried to help the child, but was unable to get him out of the water.

Finished off the last of the mimosa, all one and one-half glasses' worth. Ate what may have been some dicey shrimp earlier tonight -- will know in an hour or two or three if everything suddenly gets all rumbley in the GI.
It's been cool to see the snow sublime from day to day here on the Delmarva Peninsula. Temperatures have not been above freezing at anytime since Christmas Eve. We have a bag of ice outside on our porch since that time and it has not exhibited even the slightest degree of melting.

Simple stuff, freezes well! --be sure to mix it *very* well--
5 - 6 green onions, sliced
1/4 - 1/3 head of cabbage, thinly sliced and finely chopped
2 lbs ground pork
1 tbsp sesame oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp grated garlic
1 1/2 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
Put a small spoonful into each wonton wrapper and fold closed. I got 7 dozen (plus a few extra) with this basic recipe.

For (Quick!) dipping sauce:
1/4 cup Yoshida's Original Sweet Teriyaki
1 tsp grated ginger
1tsp crushed garlic
1/2 tsp rice vinegar
2 tsp soy sauce
1/4tsp onion powder -or- 1 finely minced green onion
Optional: a few drops of chili oil for *spicy kick*
Put all ingredients into small jar, cover, shake until well blended. Keep refrigerated, lasts up to 4 days.
Enjoy!

Dear ol' Gimli (died Nov 3) hated loud noises. Neighbors' gun practice, fireworks, thunder, sirens, cats fighting, would send him running to me like a puppy, seeking reassurance.

"Lies" means reclines, and in he lies in eternal repose.
"Denial" is the refusal to accept that Roy White is dead, which is correct because he's still alive.
"Ignorance kills people" is a combination of a logic puzzle and a joke. Ignorance does not kill people but some people don't know that. Pretty clever, really.

You know, I have no idea for heroin in mg. There are tables online of "opioid equivalent doses" which will give you a basis of comparison for all legal opioids. Some of which are more powerful than heroin.
Anyway, junkies can build up amazing tolerances, taking doses that would be lethal for a normal person.
But none for heroin. I'm sure it's available, you'd just have to search in the right (or wrong) places.
The trouble with street drugs is the purity and composition is really unknown, so you don't know really what you're getting. It's a dangerous game.

It sounds like a lot but ... for something that you have to take daily (maybe twice a day) a couple with a tolerance of no more than 4 times a regular dose would only have a little over one year's supply with that.

I dimly remember (because reasons) a ski village New Years in Austria. There were no fireworks that made it that high. Everything was street-level. Very 'exciting' and loud and colorful. No one was injured. My hearing came back.

I was with my nephews and grandnephews on Thanksgiving in Phoenix, there are a lot of tall people in the family, I'm 6'2", brother is taller, and so the kids I was with are his grandkids. ages 7, 5, and 3. The oldest won looks like he's going to be tall, 5 year old, not so much - and then the 3 year old is some kind of genetic mutant. He's very sweet, and kinda goofy, and at 3 he only weighs 6 pounds less than the 7 year old, is almost as tall, and has shoulders twice as wide. His mom calls him her Giant Baby, we're all betting on him ending up at about 6'7" and 240 (at least!). No one who meets him believes his age.

Would say so, yes. Also, even if you planned to stock up on that much, the lure of making $$$ off the stock would probably be too great. It'd get sold. Plus, having a lot of stuff in hand is not really a good idea. Apart from inevitably cranking up your use, the best idea is NOT have a large stash, but to keep it turning over and maintain your needs over a relatively short period of time.
You have a large stash? That's a huge bust risk (there goes all your $$$ and dope), or even a hit by unscrupulous people to rip you off (like a bust but you might end up dead). It brings heat you don't want and can be mostly avoided by turnover.

I used to try to imagine losing him - I'd shudder and stop thinking about it. When it happened, I didn't want to live for a long time. The Horde saw me through.
I'll never get over it, but it's getting better. I held his granddaughter on my knee 4 days ago, for the first time. I'd dreaded that, for fear I'd break down. I didn't, and I'm very grateful for that.

Thanks, people say moving is as difficult as divorce. I would imagine that's not true but it's still difficult.
We have trucks, we help friends move and I'm getting too old for that. Moving sucks.
My friend that has rich parents had movers move and pack everything out of their lake house for renovations. The movers bubble wrapped toothpaste and toiletries individually.
You'd think movers would make it easier but unpacking everything was a nightmare.

They're little miniature shotgun shells. Relatively wide spread, good for close range for varmints like snakes. Lots of folks will load them in increasingly potency: 2 rat shots, 2 normal bullets, then something a bit more high-powered, like Hornets. And hope you never get towards the more HP loads.

There is something about smoking more than the nicotine hit. They've done studies on this. You can give a person the same nicotine hit IV as they get from smoking a cigarette, and they don't get the same satisfaction.
There is something else about the delivery via tobacco smoke that enhances the nicotine hit, and I don't think they've figured it out fully yet.
It's why nicotine replacement stuff like gum, patches, lozenges, etc. just isn't as good. Vaping is the closest, but it's still not quite the same thing.

Not quite, but yeah, much closer than anything else. If you spring for one of the pens from an actual shop, instead of the gas station e-cigs, a decent shop will also let you try different fluid ratios (they mix it right there) so in addition to the nicotine level and flavorings, you can pick a level of... glycerine, I think? which determines how much "volume" you feel when you pull. It really does almost feel like the real thing. It's worth trying the real kits and skipping the gas station cigs IMO. Most decent shops will get you out the door with a refillable rechargeable pen about the size of a Sharpie and maybe 5-10ml of your custom-mixed fluid in a starter package for about $25 which is what, three packs on my home planet? God only knows how much 3 packs costs in NY or CA.

I head some Dr. Nanny they had on going on about all the bad things nicotine does, the effect on heart rate, etc, stuff like that.
Well, hell, many drugs they prescribe, highly beneficial drugs necessary to treat many conditions have much worse similar side effects.
Prednisone comes to mind, something I'm familiar with.

Both my PC and my cardiologist are good with me vaping. As my cardiologist told me: "It's not the nicotine that kills you. It's all the other crap in cigarettes that kills you."
Also, I've ratcheted down to 1.5mg nicotine in my juice, having started at 12mg a little over two years ago. I should be nicotine free in 3-4 months. Then I'll vape at 0mg nic for a few months, then quit altogether.

There are some beneficial effects of nicotine as well. It's sort of verbotten to speak of them, because they think it promotes tobacco use.
Nicotine can act as a brain stimulant, and there's some evidence it helps prevent Alzheimer's.
Smoking would always help my thinking/concentration I thought. At it likely does.

There are three major entities that are opposing vaping:
1. Governments, who make money from tobacco taxes
2. Tobacco companies, who make money from selling cigarettes

The "tobacco settlement" some years ago ended up with the big companies taking over the small ones, and massive increases in taxes for the government.
"Banking reform" in 2008/2009 led to big banks swallowing up small ones.
The same phenomenon is playing out here.

If you smoke a pack a day at $8 a pack jersey prices that's about $250 per month. it costs maybe $30 a month rolling your own. That's $220 saved. New York is like $11 a pack, that's like $330 per month, so that's $300 saved. That's if you smoke 1 pack a day, and I see people buying 2 packs a day like they free, and if you were doing that in nyc at 11 bucks a pop you're pissing away 660 a month, so you would save 600 month. Ok, you're not going to buy a Ferrari , but you can easily buy something pretty damn nice with savings like that.

Right. But that saved money goes to Comcast, Dominion Electric and Washington gas. I paid off the Mustang four years ago.
Of course, this week I had to replace a ball joint and the clutch, which pretty much wiped out my emergency fund.
Point being, I'm barely getting by as it is. Quitting isn't going to make much difference in my budget.

There are some beneficial effects of nicotine as well. It's sort of verbotten to speak of them, because they think it promotes tobacco use.
Nicotine can act as a brain stimulant, and there's some evidence it helps prevent Alzheimer's.
Smoking would always help my thinking/concentration I thought. At it likely does.

Our son, the insurance guy, says that tech is making drivers completely, lazily reliant upon it and they think it excuses their lack of common sense. As in looking for yourself. He says that back-up camera screens should be behind drivers so that they have to...well, you know.

Yeah, that's where they belong and they're really dangerous. My wife has become reliant on the thing. I told her she's actually breaking the law and they're only there as a final assist. She wasn't even turning around at all.
It's an absolutely unreliable means of backing up. I tried backing into our garage with the thing. I was going almost sideways into the garage. It sure looked straight on the screen. Then I turned around in horror. The car was against the center support pole. Fortunately I was creeping very very slowly in.

Will do. The glove compartment of this vehicle is filled with about five manuals. The fattest one is over 800 pages long. There's a manual just for the video display panel. In my field of view while looking down there is so much information it's an absolute overload. Time, temperature, gasoline, mileage, trip odometer, gear in, tune playing, track #, duration, cruise control setting, lane assist, outside temperature warning, backup camera display, bluetooth stuff, text message received... I could go on.
All tools for a quick glance by an alert driver. But in the hands of a fool the tools can be a weapon of distraction. A four thousand pound weapon.

On the steering wheel -- whole 'nother story. At least ten buttons. Volume up/down, track change forward/backward, display stroll, media change choice AM/FM, flash drive, satellite, bluetooth... then there's the windshield wipers forward and back, cruise control setting, manual and automatic headlight control. I'm sure I'm forgetting half of the stuff.
These vehicles are built for people with genius level IQ's. I'm not sure letting people with less than that number behind the wheel is a good idea. But your son should stay profitable if the loses don't wipe out the premiums.
