The First Black President? Black Unemployment Levels Near All-Time Lows

This racist president is oppressing vulnerable communities of color with steady work.

Here's a story you were very unlikely to see on CNN, MSNBC, in the New York Times or the Washington Post. As much as low unemployment numbers are a non-story for much of the MSM as long as there’s a Republican in the White House, one specific segment of the employment forces is making inroads rarely, if ever, seen before. Unemployment among black Americans has been hovering at or just above seven percent for past couple of months. That's still shamefully worse than the overall unemployment figure, but to put it in context, it’s also very close to the best it’s been since Nixon was in office.

It's nearing the low levels achieved during the tech-fueled Clinton Bubble in 2000, and even the very low rate reached under Nixon.

As far as the general unemployment rate, that is also at a seventeen year low. Again, dating to about the time of the Clinton Bubble.

Thirteen states have announced a record low unemployment rates, the lowest they've been since the BLS began tracking state figures in 1976.

The job market 'get much tighter. In October the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 4.1%--the lowest level since December 2000, when it hit 3.9%. October also marked a record-setting 85th straight month of job gains, dating back to 2010. That job creation is reaching into virtually every corner of the country. This year a remarkable 12 states have recorded their lowest unemployment rates since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking state figures in 1976, and California matched its previous low.

By the way, remember when the unemployment rate fell under Bush, but the media would always dispute that figure citing the more "realistic" U-6 number (which includes people who have given up looking for work)?

And then remember how many times I complained the media forgot all about the U-6 number under Obama, only citing the more-generous, better-looking U-3 rate?

Well guess what: The U-6 number is back, baby!

Now, this article was actually published in April -- I didn't notice it then. (Note the unemployment rate is listed as 4.5%; it's now 4.1%.)

But look how fast the media went from ignoring the U-6 under Obama to crowing about it under Trump. It literally only took the media three months to rediscover the U-6.

The government reported a 4.5% unemployment rate, but here's the realistic number

Nick Wells | @wellsangels

The headline unemployment rate might not be the best measure of jobs

It was under Obama. Tell me, CNBC -- what's changed in just three months?

The unemployment rate fell to 4.5 percent in March, according to the Labor Department. But relying on that one headline number as an indicator for the economy as a whole ignores important information just below the surface.

Each month on "Jobs Friday," the Bureau of Labor Statistics releases a ton of economic data, each point providing its own perspective on the employment situation. Economists look past the official unemployment rate -- that 4.5 percent figure, also known as the "U-3" -- to other measures of jobs in this country.

One of those measures is the U-6 rate, which has a broader definition than the U-3 rate. In March, that figure fell three-tenths of a point to 8.9 percent.

So you're saying this U-6 number, which you mentioned quite a bit when Bush was president and not at all when Obama was president, also fell a great deal?

One more thing: If you search for "unemployment rate" under "news" on google, you will struggle to find much mention of the US' very low unemployment rate -- almost as if Google is hiding stories about it as #FakeNews which is also #Racist.

And almost as if the media is simply not reporting much at all on the fact that not only have we fallen under the 5% figure generally cited as indicating "full employment," but are approaching the record-low 3.9% achieved for only a short time in the Clinton Tech Bubble.

One thing to keep in mind:

The Republican Congress stopped Obama's agenda. The only thing keeping the government as a meddlesome actor in the evening ( increasing it's share of nuisance) was Obama's administration.

Trump is undoing that actively while we suddenly have a large corporate tax rate.

The economy has held back because of Obama and is gearing up because we have a federal government that wants economic growth instead of social justice.

Expect more pop songs about how awful the economy is, Reagan's years were packed with them. It was hilarious how mopey and woeful the music portrayed life and how great everyone felt about the economy.

The big difference now though is that pop music has zero impact on anyone's life unless they are a 14 year old girl.

Such things as actual "immigration law compliance" or various concepts of the state of mass illegal migration surely must figure in DHS's internal assessments and strategizing (if not, WTF).

Apart from border zone apprehensions, I have not seen any publicly announced numbers.

But it's as rock solid as gravity that if the borders are secured and rule of law returned to the labor market, wages and employment in the lowest quintiles will improve. If DHS (and Congress, under bludgeon blows from the WH) would get more serious, and esp. urgent, about this, the economic trends could make Trump's re-election as uncertain as Reagan's second one.

No doubt, but traditionally, bon appétit:

TRUFFLES: WHY PIGS CAN SNIFF THEM OUT
By WALTER SULLIVAN
Published: March 24, 1982

Truffles are rare and expensive as it is. They would be far more so, were it not for the remarkable ability of pigs to sniff them out from as deep as three feet underground.

Why are those animals so capable? Is it related to the omnivorous appetite that has given ''eating like a pig'' so bad a name? And what is the basis for the remarkable appeal of those fungi to gourmets?

The explanation, it seems, relates to the sex life of pigs - and perhaps of human beings as well. Researchers in West Germany have found that truffles contain large quantities of a substance also synthesized in the testes of boars. In the boars it is secreted into their saliva when they court females. The Germans report that the substance's musklike scent, ''emanating from the saliva foam, is smelled by the sow and prompts her standing reflex.'

The result was something called The Roaring 20s.

Compare and contrast to Hoobert Heever and FDR, mirrored by Dubya and the Dog-Eater.

Seriously, when you have a media in full out meltdown about this Prez, a deep state planning/trying for a soft coup and posting about it openly, and 99 percent of Hollywood agitating for an overthrow, not to mention Mueller and all the other shenanigans, how the hell does anyone think Trump could become Hitler? Now Obama, he had a chance. People loved him. Still do. He's the type who can become the leader he warns about. He already was skirting the Constitution and using the govt. for his own nefarious goals. Thankfully, he couldn't run again.

248 The Reagan tax cut created then record-breaking tax revenues in the following years. Unfortunately, the Dem-controlled Congress spent even more than the increased total revenue. Granted, defense spending increased, too. And that was important.
Posted by: mrp at December 20, 2017 06:19 PM (Pqytn)

I've showed the data to everyone who says "tax cuts add to the deficit" but they still don't believe it.

Go look at tax receipts going back as far as you want -- the only times you see even slight dips are during recessions, and the year immediately after a tax cut is passed. Then, shocker of shocks, tax receipts continue to increase and surpass the years prior to the tax cuts. In both the Reagan and Kennedy tax cuts, the rate of increase actually went up IIRC after tax cuts were passed. I don't think it did under Bush (probably a not big enough tax cut to really boost gdp growth), but still -- instead of "costing" TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS over a decade, at most the government lost out on a few billion before being right back on track to where they were without a tax cut.

And the people who earned the money go to keep more of it.

The problem with the UN is the amount of money we put into it the fact that it takes up valuable Manhattan real estate that could be used for something else. If we must have the UN in our country, we should put it somewhere out in the Nevada desert.

297 While the UN has done some good overall

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at December 20, 2017 06:23 PM (39g3+)

It hasn't done anything good.

For the first 50 years of its existence the UN spent the majority of its time doing nothing but condemning, berating, and making resolutions against Israel. That was really the only thing the UN did. That was back in the Cold War days, of course, when power was between the US and the SOviets and the UN was little more than a bad joke.

Since the fall of the USSR, however, George Bush Sr. made one of the worst moves in human history by empowering the UN and it has tried to diversify its destructive nature a bit beyond just trying to exterminate Israel.

The UN cannot be left to exist. It is dangerous. Any peerless, competitionless empowered entity is guaranteed to grow in grotesque and destructive ways. That is how things always go. The only sensible action is either to end the UN, for us to leave it, or to totally neuter it. There is nothing else.

The UN is not well-intentioned and has never done any good of any measure.

95% of income taxes are paid by the top quintile. That leaves a lot of people getting far more from the government than they're putting in.

Well, the downside is twofold
1) tax base will probably shrink due to this tax deal, which is a huge moral hazard.
2) tax receipts will not dip in any meaningful way -- the treasury will continue to receive about the same amount of money as if no tax cut had ever happened.

Sadly, there's no indication of a slacking on the consumption side. If they decide to make up the difference through more "QE", aka printing money, they're just shifting the tax burden from people who have income to people holding cash.

334 There was a TV ad last night asking for money for the UN. It was a real tearjerker. They are the last people I'd send money to. They are so corrupt and ineffective that money will do no good. They bungle everything they touch and then complain and blame other countries.

Now that Austria has put in very tough Immigration laws, the UN high council yadda, yadda, has made a harsh statement against it. It was Prince Aladdin something Arab something.

My thought...well, then Austria must be doing the right thing.

It's already neutered. A vote in the General Assembly means nothing, and there are always competing interests in the Security Council such that anything important gets vetoed.

The problem with the UN is the amount of money we put into it the fact that it takes up valuable Manhattan real estate that could be used for something else. If we must have the UN in our country, we should put it somewhere out in the Nevada desert.

336 For the first 50 years of its existence the UN spent the majority of its time doing nothing but condemning, berating, and making resolutions against Israel. That was really the only thing the UN did.

Well, they also helped fight the North Koreans out of South Korea, they distributed food and supplies to famine, war-torn, and disaster suffering areas, and they did provide a place for angry opponents to yell at each other instead of launching attacks. All of which was as the organization was intended.

But its gotten hopelessly corrupt and incompetent, wasteful, and lost. When you have places like Syria on the Human Rights council, the entire organization has lost all meaning.

377 I just found a clue in the Moron Cookbook about bread, in the basic bread recipe by Annalucia.

"Milk makes the bread more tender". She also suggests slashing the top of the loaf before baking. Two very valuable clues.

My bread has not been coming out right. The problem is a different batch of wheat flour and the water/flour ratio is not correct. The loaf over inflates and then collapses like a fallen souffle. And it has been coming out with a hard crust that I don't like.

I know what to do about it. It is just getting the numbers right.

The Moron Cookbook is worth every penny and I've only started looking through it.

Thank you all.
