(Re)-Revealed: Democrat Senator Tom Carper Admitted Slapping His Wife in the Face in 1998 Interview

Kirsten Gillibrand unable for comment, I imagine.

Delaware senator Tom Carper admitted to slapping his wife in a 1998 interview with a veteran political journalist in the state, confirming an accusation he denied when first running for Congress.

Carper represented Delaware first in the House, then was elected governor in 1993, and has been in the Senate since 2001. He fought the accusation that he hit his wife when it first emerged during his 1982 run for Congress, saying it was "without basis in fact" and pledging to sue the New York Post, which first published the accusation in 1982, for libel.

Carper won in 1982 largely by attacking his Republican opponent for his "vicious" efforts to "smear" him and his wife, but 16 years later he admitted to Delaware reporter Celia Cohen that the accusation was true all along.

"Did I slap my wife 20 years ago? Yes," Carper said. "Do I regret it? Yes. Would I do it again? No."

Slapping one's wife is assault. So shouldn't men who assault women, even decades in the past, be forced from the Senate?

I thought that was the rule. That had been the rule two or three days ago. Has something changed recently to make that not the rule again?

Oh, and on that: When's Al Franken resigning, exactly?

Do you get the child tax credits if you don't itemize? Why should a

married couple with 6 children be taxed at the same rate as a married

couple with no children? I'm fine with a flat tax, but that's not

happening this year. So I'm good with a child tax credit. Either that,

or every adult gets taxed as an individual.

Posted by: grammie winger - stunned by Christmas at December 14, 2017 04:58 PM (lwiT4)

It
is a "credit' not a deduction so you get it regardless of how you file
as long as you have a child under 17. It is just another welfare payment
that benefits large families in the ghetto. You also get the EIC credit
because booth of these are means tested for low income.

This credit is different from the dependents you take credit for at the begging of the form too.

90 "Slapping one's wife is assault."

Yes and no.

In Michigan, slapping one's wife is assault. It's counted as such on the Uniform Crime Report (UCR) filed with the FBI each year to compare with other states. They call it a "Uniform" Crime Report because all the states are suppose to follow the same rules.

In Delaware, slapping one's wife goes into a category marked "Family Violence". These crimes aren't counted in the Delaware UCR, therefore the violent crime statistics make it seem that Delaware is a safe state to live in.

Unless you're married or dating the guy who is slapping you around.

This is what liberals do.

They can't help lying, even with "Uniform" crime reports.

When I talked with the FBI about this, they said they couldn't do anything because it's a voluntary program for all the states. When I suggested a footnote that explained that the violent crime rate of certain states was wildly misleading do to this type of misreporting, they said their hands were tied.

Fucking worthless bureaucrats.

Posted by: Mr. Peebles at December 14, 2017 05:29 PM (oVJmc)

The "process", I would think, is that it WAS illegal then, and it was wrong for everyone involved to hush it up and sweep it under the rug.

Again, it's not a so-called "witch hunt" if they actually ARE witches.

These men getting rounded up (they seem to all be men so far) actually ARE perverts and predators and generally shitty characters.

Being a Democrat, or a Hollywood magnate, or whatever, shouldn't insulate you from that.

Getting away with it for two decades shouldn't insulate you from that.

When they start rounding up people who are innocent, I'll start worrying.

When they start filing legal charges without due process, I'll start worrying.

Now? Let the f*ckers file a wrongful termination suit if they feel wronged...

but they won't, because they're all guilty as sin and they know it.

212 So the black FCC commissioner, speaking in support of net neutrality says repealing NN will cut the black community off from vital internet social media communications that enable them to get word out about their struggles. It was crucial to getting the word out about Ferguson because the major media was ignoring it (stop laughing) and getting rid of net neutrality will silence the black community.

Except Ferguson happened in 2014, 1 year BEFORE the net neutrality regs. IF things were so bad with the internet that they stifled communications from the black community, thereby necessitating the government to step in with net neutrality regulations, how in the hell did we ever hear about ferguson?

Black community something, something, oppression something, something, inequality something government needs more control.

How fast is that changing? Rather rapidly. AS I see it as of now, case law can't keep up with the Internet, let alone legislative statutes.

If it was an established technology, we could treat it like a regulated utility type monopoly, like your water supply, your sewage treatment, or your local power grid. Then, it would make sense to have the Internet treated as a public utility, which was what the Obama Administration edicts did. "Ma Bell" worked well for decades--when the telephone technology was not changing that much.

But now? Things are honestly changing too fast for the Public Utility regulation model.

It
is a "credit' not a deduction so you get it regardless of how you file

262 net neutrality

Video streaming sends 4.5 GB over a ninety minute period (all numbers approximate).

While the internet is sending billions and billions of bits to millions and millions of people watching online video, the tubes get clogged up and it takes longer to find a slot to send you the web page you want to read, like this one. So the theory goes that people watching online video should pay more than people, like us, reading web pages.

Or another example, a full windows OS upgrade is around 9 GB. If you have a 5GB data plan, like Verizon wireless, you have to pay twice as much to get those last 4 GB of your windows update.

It's like having an 18wheeler using the interstate system. Those trucks are so heavy that they do damage to the concrete so they have to pay more for their license.

That is most certainly what it is all about. As I said this morning it had two purposes. Allow huge bandwidth users get the same rates as low bandwidth users. Like your neighbor getting the same monthly water bill for using 20,000 gal of water as you get for 2,000 gal of water. And the second purpose was to give the gov a foot in the door for control of internet content. And the Democrats got some huge payoffs from those big providers for that.

274 Without Net Neutrality, a company like Comcast, who is a content creator (NBC), provider (Cable co), and infrastructure provider could provide customers fast, inexpensive access to its content but slow down the connection for competition like Netflix unless Netflix or the customer paid Comcast for faster speeds. In theory, net neutrality prevented this. But, since it was an Obama reg, there was probably way more to it as far as government intrusiveness and control that you don't know about unless you read into the reg.

Nutshell is FCC tried to regulate ISPs under a particular statutory scheme, like utilities, which have anti-discrimination provisions, essentially giving the FCC broad regulatory authority.

Courts shot them down. Repeatedly. Thus, ISPs remained being regulated under less stringent service provider regulations, as it had been for 20+ years of innovation and development of services and content.

President Pen and Phone usurped Congress, seized such power for the FCC, thereby creating sufficient opportunity for graft, where there was none. This was 2015.

Barking moonbats mechanically rejoiced and regurgitated acceptable thoughts spewed forth by propagandists about tiered pricing and content neutrality.

Trump rained on their parade - probably grabbing some mish while drinking 12 diet cokes to wash down two scoops of ice cream - and returned us to the horrors of the 2015 internet regulation.

291 Speaking of objectifying women -- let's objectify some women!

A leftoid fashion company is launching a new campaign featuring only "real-looking" (i.e. not attractive) models:

http://www.thisisinsider.com/ missguided-unretouched-models-make-your-mark-campaign-2017-12

They say that "real" models are actually superior to overly made-up thin models.

All the feminists agree and are lining up to spend all their cash buying the clothes of this company with its clever marketing gimmick designed to deceive SJWs.

But more importantly: Are any of their models actually hot, while pretending not to be?

So let's check it out: Here is the page for the campaign:

https://www.missguided.co.uk/campaign/make-your-mark

Question for the (male hetero) Horde: Which of these model would you NOT kick out of bed?

Assessment:

Two of the eight models are morbidly obese: Felicity, Sam. Kick. Out.

Two of the models are merely obese: Tinar and Ally. Out.

Three of the models are only "normally" overweight, but are kinda diseased-looking (as in venereal disease -- they're all "sex-positive" feminists): Jade, Nylo, and Nelly.

Which leaves us with just ONE model who is, in actual reality, sexy and cute: Emily. She is allowed to stay in the bed.

Nylo is maybe passable, but Emily is The One.

Agree? Or disagree?

The people here who believe that this is about metering are wrong. The internet has always been metered and NN did nothing to prevent this. What net neutrality did do was prevent ISP's from prioritizing some site's traffic over other traffic. A data packet is a data packet regardless of where it's coming from. Now your ISP can cripple a video streaming service, for example, in favor of pushing their own video streaming service. Or in a worst case block sites altogether based on their own political beliefs. Sites like this one.

That's just on the consumer end. On the content side they can now work out side deals with those providers to lock out future competitors. Think YouTube making a peer agreement with Cox's backbone that locks out a future video competitor that doesn't even exist now from even entering the space.

It has nothing to do with how much internet you consume, it's about WHAT internet your provider allows you to consume.

309 Skywalker's role in the destruction of the Jedi Order and the establishment of the Galactic Empire is the impetus for the ensuing movies in the franchise. There would be no bad guys in a majority of the films if the Jedi Order had removed a workplace predator from their ranks.

While this may have happened a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, it deserves to be called out now. By allowing a predator in the workplace, and not doing enough to fight sexual harassment, the Jedi Council ultimately engineers its own demise.

Members of the Jedi Council should've removed Skywalker from the Jedi Order after his many missteps while protecting Sen. Padmé Amidala. If they had, Chancellor Palpatine would have been unable to leverage Skywalker into destroying the Jedi Order, dismantling democracy and creating the first Galactic Empire.

If you like the years since then when things like the internet and pretty much 90% of all the communications technology we currently use including content, streaming video, streaming musics, downloads .. all kinds of content and communications, then you don't want net neutrality.

When you turn the communication technology into a utility, and that's exactly what net neutrality does, then you limit the growth of content and communications technology we get.

It's that simple. Net neutrality is government control, socialism, of the underlying network. We'll all get service, the exact same service, and it will be at a lower grade.

Socialism always works the same way.

347 The people who were most harmed by the NN bullshit were the people who had to put in place the infrastructure to carry the internet. I am not talking about the content providers like Netflix or Hulu.

I am talking about the people who have to put up the cable, the transformers, the internet data processing sites, et al. These large bandwidth users SHOULD pay more for streaming their product because they are creating the need for even more of these infrastructure to be put in place. And that costs a LOT of money and someone has to pay for it. Ultimatly what net neutrality did was subsidize the lower costs for large users by making small users pay more.

Three words: Value Added Tax. At what level of production you tax something DOES have massive implications.

Moreover, yes a society of widely distributed stakeholders is MUCH less likely to vote for commie crap than one without it. Which is why we have policies that encourage home ownership and ownership of one's own pensions.

If we can move "Social Security", "Medicare" and other employer proviced health insurance policies more into the same individually owned realm as 401Ks and (Roth) IRA's, that would be an improvement too. Which is why the Comiecrats screamed and cried when the Bush Administration proposed these kind of things. One of the few good economic moves the otherwise RINOey Bush Administration proposed. 1. A data packet is a data packet regardless of where it's coming from.

2. Now your ISP can cripple a video streaming service, for example, in favor of pushing their own video streaming service.

3. Or in a worst case block sites altogether based on their own political beliefs. Sites like this one.

4. That's just on the consumer end. On the content side they can now work out side deals with those providers to lock out future competitors. Think YouTube making a peer agreement with Cox's backbone that locks out a future video competitor that doesn't even exist now from even entering the space.

Posted by: Brian in New Orleans at December 14, 2017 06:18 PM (63oy9)

1. Maybe, but 1 data packet is not 10 GB of data packets.

2. No it can't. It couldn't under under pre-NN, either. Physically, yes, it can happen. But companies are regulated to proscribe unfair trade practices and anti-competitive behavior, without NN.

3. No it can't. It can try. For big companies, see 2. For smaller concerns, VPN is still an option, as are state level AG actions, many of which are now being touted by lefty dunderhead governors as a solution. (This is a solution that pre and post existed NN.).

4. This is overblown. See 2. And corporate liability laws.

Yea but for different reasons. It's just not feasible to physically run multiple water pipes or power companies. But it also does stifle innovation.

429 I wrote the start of an article citing to the woes of gab.ai for which the theory is that decentralized internet will be the future of free speech on the internet.

Short of it is DNS via block chain or some other distributed framework, which dispenses with the need for centralized control of the internet, is essential to guarantee free speech.

The simple fact is there is no speech on the internet without DNS.

I thought about shopping it to ace.

You are missing the point. *When* something gets taxed matters as much, if not more, than at what rate level. And of course, rate levels do matter, and have always varied:
--import duties (which have always varied by item)
--Periodic payroll income
--Investment proceeds
--End of year / period business income
--Assets upon death

Most of these protocols are open internet standards that are voluntarily adhered to. And often the software is free. You don't have to write your own.

And if you could, you wouldn't worry about it. MS tried to swing its weight around, and it paid dearly for it in market share with its browser.

As Brian points out, packets is packets, which is true, to some extent. This myth of the internet (DNS connected) being a wild west is just that. You want wild west, go to the dark web.

No disagreement there, JackStraw. My point exactly.

At some point, we may reach the point where it becomes clear that cables are optimal, and like water mains, they will need utility like regulation. But we are not there yet.

If you are passionate about it, please be passionate enough to simply read beyond all the lefty talking points, including court cases that said ISPs cannot be regulated under title II, including the reasons why we had a free and open, content-neutral, internet before the 2015 NN usurpation, including the criticisms of NN by leading technology policy pundits.

462 I'm awaiting Mitch's Ethics Hearing on Sen. Blumenthal. He dated a teenager with the family's permission despite being a Democrat prosecutor 15 years her senior. Evidently, he wanted to marry a beautiful young wife of his own faith who didn't have a lot of emotional baggage from previous relationships. Why, that's just crazy!

Like Roy Moore, he found who he was looking for and married her. But, hey, a pedophile is a pedophile. Covene the hearing, Mitch.
