Weird News Dump

d8e48ec86a33145f304cc94246836f8e--meme-humor-funny-memes.jpg

Good morning. Let's take a look at some items that didn't get their due here at the AoSHQ this past week.

As we approach Christmas, are you still looking to purchase some gifts? Check out the sidebar and the wonderful The Deplorable Gourmet. Great recipes and all net proceeds go to Fisher House and Toys for Tots. So as they would say at the company staff meeting, it's a win-win proposition.

*****

Let's go.

Enjoy these stories or something else that tickles your fancy in this open thread. No jumping on the furniture, no running with sharp objects and no pulling the 'ettes pony or pig tails.

Have a great weekend!!!

34 "the final tax reform bill. It is a watered down mess that bears no resemblance at all to the one Trump had come up with" vic

they got the corporate rate down (21%) which is good, but I read it doesn't help a lot in bringing jobs back (despite the promise). Helps Goldman Sachs boyz, but they will keep making money overseas.

Trade deficit is still rising along with the stock market, which has been good for all those with a million or more in the markets.

But job number one right now is to get the Deep State crime syndicate rooted out ... and two, build the wall ... border crossings also going back up. The Dem run bureaucracy figures they can obstruct for Trump's time in office ... so far they have done pretty well.

But passing a bill is essential for the Republicans, so shit sammich it is. They can probably show it will help the middle working class.

I'm trying to avoid all Star Wars spoilers until I see it next week.

The recent batch of SW movies seem to provoke hot/cold reactions. I hated Rogue One (save for the robot) but others thought it was the best entry in the franchise since the Olde Trilogy. I found Force Awakens an engaging enough pastiche, others hated it with the heat of binary suns. I don't recall opinions being this divided about Episodes IV - VI.

There was a lightsaber scene in the new SW that reminded No. 1 Son of something (I think it was the scene from Seven Samurai where the monk and the newb watch Bill Wyman fail to convince a guy that he won with wooden swords and have to resort to killing him with a real sword).

So we tried to watch the third Zatoichi movie last night but it was too slow. So we watched the Netflix doc on Toshiro Mifune instead and that was great.

This is just a lot of Japan fodder for certain people, but also really watch the Mifune doc on Netflix.

57 Willowed, yet refined:

If only Pennsylvania had oil.

I laughed and laughed. My dad is retired from Sun. My pet refinery in the back yard, where my mom's dad and my sister spent their working lives, used to be theirs, but they went into the milk-n-twinkies biz instead. Pew!

Car-guys and bikers used to have a lot of fun with the crossbow/longbow of asphaltic-base Western oils vs pure, sweet paraffin-base Pennsylvania crude. It was Epic. Then Pennzoil went west, and, hell.
Now that most motor oil is reconstructed at the molecular level, it is not as big a deal, but I miss those days. And the smell of real Castrol in the gas.

Then there is Brad Penn. Cute, tiny little boutique refinery in Bradford, right next to the NY border, makes God's Own Oil and it. is. Marvelous.

Check to see if it has chicory. Burnt chicory root was used as a Civil War substitute for real coffee, but New Orleans people decided that it wasn't half bad. Since then New Orleans coffee (like Community) has about 8% chicory added into the mix.

No direct experience...... yet. I have had a substantial number of our golf group have knee replacements. Universally with very good results. None had any problems. One of them actually had both done at the same time. All are much better and back to playing golf with no pain.

139 The stem cell treatment is useful in regrowing (some) cartilage in the knee, but if thejoint is severely malformed due to arthritis there may be minimal use to the therapy.

because of the movement reduction the knee replacement causes a lot of people hold off on the surgery. However, if the knees are bad, that might be an improvement.
Dad was told that in his 80's he is too old now for knee replacements, no surgeon wants to take the risk on him. So it is something to do while healthy.

There are risks with any surgery, an acquaintance had a family member who had a knee replacement, which was a success, and then got MERSA in the hospital, and while re-hospitalized for that, had a heart attack and died.

We talked with him for 20 to 30 minutes and could not get him to say anything that showed any support for one candidate or the other. Apparently the rule was you never, ever show any bias. It was so ingrained in this guy that he still held to it even though he was retired.

"A U.S. judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration's new HHS rules that exempt nonprofits and for-profit businesses from covering contraceptive and abortion-inducing drugs.

Many business owners and religious nonprofits felt that the Obama-era mandate compelled them to violate their deeply-held religious beliefs.

U.S. District Judge Wendy Beetlestone in Philadelphia issued a preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of rules the administration announced in October that allowed businesses or non-profits to obtain exemptions on moral or religious grounds."

We would not have ragtime, blues, or jazz today were it not for the founding efforts of Coon Culture. Yes, that is what it was called. And buck-and-wingers were not ashamed of it.

I met Mrs Pence once, at a shooting affair. The inaugural ball events seemed tailor-made to make her seem frumpy. In person, she's lively and fun and definitely somebody you'd want to know. She rides and she shoots.

Hell she could be an 'ette for all we know.

Rank and file are mostly appalled (imo). As with the pentagon, the fish rots from the head down. Deep State mafia installs their peeps at the top via Clinton types, and they never leave. Good people have been leaving instead.

This audio (link) is good by Jay Sekulow, on the changes made for Comey. Careless and negligence are basically the same, but the "misdirection" was the point.

The original was "EVIDENCE of gross negligence".
The edit was "NO EVIDENCE of (intent to be) extremely careless".

It didn't matter legally, since intent is not the issue. Just the word 'negligence' (or careless) suggests intent is not the point. But as with Comey making his case by leaking to the Times, this is propaganda for public consumption. So the DNC/MFM talking point is "No Evidence, Comey said so".

236 "The United Nations has a track record of protecting minority populations," [Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin] told Inc. before his meeting. "There was tribal warfare between the Tutsis and the Hutus in Africa, and they deployed peacekeeping troops there to help save those populations and reduce the bloodshed. We have to do something -- black people in Chicago make up 30 percent of the population but 80 percent of those who are killed by gun violence."

========

So the Chicago police, the National Guard, etc. are all too racist. Chicago needs to bring in foreign troops to "protect minority populations" from committing genocide (his words) against each other. Note this idiot keeps using words like "minority" and "genocide" to hint that the victims involved are all innocent minorities being persecuted for being minorities, instead of culling themselves.

Why would the Ferguson effect not apply in the case of UN troops? The scum in Chicago will see people in uniform putting a stop to their thuggery and resent it just as much as when native law enforcement does it.

237 Back in the 70s, I once got on a flight from Denver, CO to Cody, WY. It was a direct flight, but with intermediate stops. What I hadn't anticipated was the sheer number of intermediate stops: Ft. Collins, Cheyenne, Rawlings, Douglas, Casper, Riverton, Worland, to finally arrive at the destination Cody.

It took ten hours: an eight hour flight plus two hours to drive to the Denver airport, check-in, board, de-plane, baggage claim, and drive to the hotel.

I could have driven it in nine hours.

239 Yeah, seems like it's not Rahm, it's Richard Boykin.

240 He compares Chicago to the tribal violence in Africa that the UN helped quell. I wonder if that's racist, saying that they've degenerated to a third world level.

241 There was an ATM burglary using exactly that same M.O. in Trochu, Alberta, about 2 years ago. Wouldn't surprise me if it were the same gang doing it, since I don't know if they were ever caught.

Pro tip for businesses having free-standing third-party ATM's: put them somewhere in the premises where they cannot readily be snatched out the door by a pickup with a tow strap.

242 Check to see if it has chicory. Burnt chicory root
was used as a Civil War substitute for real coffee, but New Orleans
people decided that it wasn't half bad. Since then New Orleans coffee
(like Community) has about 8% chicory added into the mix.

Community Coffee is in Baton Rouge, not New Orleans. They do sell chicory blends, but their regular coffee is 100% coffee. I like their traditional dark roast. That is the coffee of choice on all the offshore rigs in the Gulf. And those boys are serious about their coffee.

244 Sofa saver - my ex had problems in her upper metatarsals, likely related to surgery done 35 years ago to "correct" some mis-shapen bones at the outside of her foot which made shoes quite painful. She was at the point where she had to wear an ankle brace to restrict its motion, which made walking awkward and difficult. She researched stem-cell treatment, found a local orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience therein, and finding that her Obamacare wouldn't cover it (heh heh) coughed up the $6k in cash. It worked beyond her wildest dreams. No more pain, full use and range of motion, etc. YMMV, but it's surely worth investigating.
