78 Um didn't he do that with Gran Torino? I thought a lot of the Hmong's he used weren't really actors.

Yes.

He's had the most amazing career arc. Singing cowboy on teevee, then caricature Spagetti Western hero, Dirty Harry. Nobody called him serious.

But he was paying attention to how Leone made movies and he learned the process and made it his own. He has so much stinkin' talent that he even wrote the music for Gran Torino.

I think CLint only acted in Trouble With The Curve. I don't think he directed or produced it ... though I might be mistaken.

I thought it was a fun movie though the script was much too sappy and predictable. I also didn't like the part at the end where the poor little pitcher was blowing fast balls past the douchebag and, THEN, threw his curve at him. The whole story about the hitter was that he was great with fast balls but couldn't hit a curve for his life, hence the title.

Amy Adams was especially cute in the movie, though, which goes a long way.

I guess so. In any event it managed to tell an engaging and relatively efficient story, quite well. I liked it. Don't know about this new one. I'm not sure that a lot of flashbacks and/or lifestory is needed for something like this. May be heavily padded. Would prefer something kind of done "in the moment", like in real time. But, like Sully, I guess that wouldn't be much time to work with.

Story from long ago when I had a life and did interesting things:

Went to Bangkok. Someone had told the wife about a tailor there and I was going to get suits made just for me. (Can't think of a Thai pun on Saville Row).

So, they take my measurements and I'm feeling all like James Bond. This fabric in double breasted, that fabric single breasted, single vent only please.

And what I got was two suits for a Thai body scaled up to six feet tall. No hips, no drop. Not quite James Bond.

I thought it was the end for the blood thirsty human sacrificing civilization of the new world.

Did I miss something.

Speaking of which, I haven't been around much, where do Cookbook sales stand. I'm sure it has become a pesty question.

Wish the farmers markets around here were like that.

On topic, sounds like I might actually go see it when it comes out here.

297 very nice, clint's got his own GWOT ourve going on, you know.

probably an opposite approach than sully where the movie was a reflection on impact of what he did, this will be about what led up to these events.

298 I dunno... " Sully" was kinda boring to me.... am I a bad person for saying that?

I liked Sully. I didn't want to watch it because it had Tom Hanks in it but I ended up enjoying it very much, in spite of Hanks.

302 Kinda hard to win a special election when the other party gets out 92% of their 2016 presidential turnout. If you told anybody that stat before the election, you would have been laughed at and mocked.

92% I'm suspicious.

304 You know what else is something?

There were some tech industry morons talking about bitcoin here several years ago when it was in the single digits. They were talking about it because they'd seen it go from fractions of a cent or whatever to seven bucks, and were highly suggesting getting in without suggesting getting in. I think it came up again while it was still under $20 per bitcoin

Well, I'm sure I am not alone in kicking myself for not learning how to buy it and getting in back then. It was too complicated for me and seemed super risky, but the risk didn't bother me cuz I wasn't considering a compromise to my budget.

Nowadays cryptocurrency is easy to buy compared to a few years ago and not quite as risky.

Anyone have recommendations on what site to use and which "brands" to roll with? I've got a lot of last year's bonus sitting in a savings account and want to get in now.

It could pay for my kids to go to college or it could be a funny story to reminisce about at future Thanksgiving get-togethers.

Posted by: Patrick From Ohio at December 13, 2017 04:21 PM

In my off-line life, I am an airline pilot, and I have seen the plot of United 93 in my nightmares for many years. I have no need to see it at the theater.

This is going to be an EXCELLENT film.
Eastwood is one of the greatest cinematic storytellers of all time. (And he's also a damn fine actor.)

_Unforgiven_ is one of my all time favorite films.
