Exit Polls: Voters Split On Whether Roy Moore's Accusers Are Telling the Truth, But 55% Say It's a "Minor" Factor or Not a Factor In Their Decision

The partisan split among those showing up to vote today is Democrat 37%, Republican 46%, Independent 20%. This sounds a bit bad to me -- I'd expect the Republican affiliation to be higher, if Moore was going to win. I know that many people in the south still claim to be nominally Democrat or Independent while voting Republican, but still, I'd think this should be higher, were Moore going to win:

The "abortion illegal" number also seems low to me. You can't trust exit polls much, especially with a candidate perceived as disapproved by the media, but these polls don't look good to me for Moore.

10 I dunno if Moore will win, but I expect a narrow victory when all the fraudin' is done. Wide enough to cut off the recount calls, but narrow.

As for the party affiliation, not a concern. Not only is it like ace said (lots of Democrat registrations in the south but voting Republican) but Trump swept the state massively despite huge black turnout. Or, perhaps, because of it. And I strongly doubt that culturally, Alabama blacks are particularly concerned about a 30 year old man dating 16 year olds.

There's only one accusation that might be true, or might not. The girl who says she was 14 when he tried a sexual move on her. There are some very minor inconsistencies in her story, but after nearly 40 years you'd expect that.

But there's no evidence, and no supporting data. Just her word. He denies it. So what's that leave us with? Are we to simply assume he's a bad guy because a leftist newspaper prints a story meant to derail him? I don't think it will resonate with voters. But we'll see.

If he did what he's accused of with her, yeah the guy is scum. But I'm not going to simply believe her because she said it to the Washington Post a few weeks before the election and nothing at all for almost 4 decades before that.

41 AL has a weird way of handling absentee ballots.

Absentees are counted only if their number exceeds the margin of victory in the election.

So if a candidate wins by 10,000 votes, absentee ballots are counted only if there are more than 10,000 of them.

If the issue of Moore's past, true or not, is only a minor issue for the voters, then they are voting on other issues...

The only logical way for Jones to win is for the voters to think the accusations are true and they are disqualifying.

One of the problems of journalism is too much emphasis on the future on not enough on the past, which is what journalism is supposed to be. Too much of "Will this guy go to jail?" and "Who is going to win the big game?" and "Are we going to go to war?" That last one especially, since the media can't answer "Are we currently at war?" right.

How about the newsies focus on what happened and leave the forecasting to the weather guy?

Yertle is full of shit... SCOTUS ruled back in 1969 that Congress does not have the ability to not seat duly elected representatives unless they fail to meet the criteria laid out in the Constitution (Powell v. McCormack was the case title I think). So unless Yertle has credible evidence to show that a) Moore is not yet 30 years old b) Moore has not been a citizen for at least 9 years OR c) Moore is not a resident of Alabama, he is SOL on that.

Also Senate ethics rules do not allow Senators to be removed for behavior alleged to happen before they were Senators.

279 .Word! We had a party line until about 1968-69ish and I shared a room with my brother until he joined the Navy in 1972.

Plus
we had one phone in the house on the wall in the kitchen after we moved
and lost the party line. Oh and we got an actual working TV in 1968. I
fondly remember many a trip to the Radio Shack and the tube tester with
my Dad trying to figure out which tube was bad.

Graduated to a color TV in my senior year in 75.

Pretty much the same here too. That one wall phone in the kitchen didn't get touched without a very good reason and don't spin that dial so fast! I doubt my parents would have gotten a color TV until much later if my brothers and I didn't buy them one for Christmas one year.

355 >>>it is infuriating to have the democrats' opening character assassination move to be a kill shot on a safe seat.

They are burning through all their ammunition.

Just pointing out some of the tension that exists between evangelicals and this particular race.

I hear ya but I think guy accused of being a perv by Democrats is way above guy who militates killing as many babies as possible on the evangelical scale.

Of course there is always the possibility that people who believe the slander say a pox on both your houses and don't vote at all but voting appears to be heavy so...

The most effective scenario is that Moore rides to Washington, enters
the Senate building, trots down the hallways looking for McTurtle's
office, busts the door down, "Sassy" drops a load there, then he rides
to the
the Senate chamber and rears up like Roy Rogers mounted on Trigger.

Bonus points if he fires off a six-shooter into the rafters.

362 Exit Polls,

I was asked once to participate in an exit poll.

I was polite. I did not tell them what I thought of them.

I also did not answer any questions. Exit polls are a self selected sample, of a carefully scientifically selected sample of representative voters. IOW, magical BS.

Kids today will never know the joy of exploring the UHF dial with rabbit
ears and tinfoil to find new channels. Then the crushing disappointment
to find out it is a spanish channel.
