I just bought that house on the left. The underwriter finally approved my massive $165,000 mortgage. They had to ensure that, if I defaulted, that large sum of money wouldn't sink their financial institution. This required 3 weeks of emails asking me to prove I wrote a check for the earnest money, show the cancelled check for the earnest money, show the account where the earnest money came from, three months prior to prove I didn't have to borrow the earnest money, show the account after the earnest money cleared, and show the transaction to prove the earnest money came out of my account. Nevermind the fact that I have nearly enough money to buy the house outright parked in my savings account, that $1700 earnest money might have pushed me to the brink.

We had to jump through so many friggin hoops and I had to keep sending the wife's current pay stub every two weeks and our Navy Retirement statements monthly during the process to prove that we could afford the mortgage even though every penny we earn goes right into our checking account with them and has been doing so for the last 35 years. I think what really throws off the viewer is how purposefully forced the perspective is. Take a look at the two buildings on the right. Real perspective would make them similar in height, but they're not. Both are two-stories with a gray stone base. The wall separating them is not long enough to account of the difference. It's like an Esher painting. To enhance this, the windows on the second house are taller than the first, meaning the ceilings are really high in the second. In my mind then that should compensate for the observed differences in height, but it doesn't. It only adds to the confusion. This is something in Surrealism called "disassociation", a purposeful juxtaposition of unlike realities or things meant to confuse or unsettle the viewer.
Continuing on to the third building, again the wall is too short to account for the differences in height. However, the artist plays with our expectation. Because the last building is behind a wall, we really cannot see its base. Therefore we don't really know how tall it is, or how far back it is. How large is that courtyard? Because of our low vantage point, we can't know. There are no trees to give us a sense of scale. There is also a row of buildings in the far background. Their size tells us they are very distant, but how far? Are they even real? They almost present a mirage-like image. This is a fascinating work. Nice find, CBD. I like this painting. I liked the early American style that was submitted a few days back.
So here is a Q for all the readers here. Is there anyone else out there who is colorblind/deficient? Without a doubt it affects the way we see art and the art we like. I find that I prefer art that has clean lines and rather stark color. I can appreciate the impressionist, but I am sure that the power of the colors is lost on me, and I just shrug my shoulder and say , "Interesting technique, but whats all the fuss" In the case of this piece I see two colors, many levels of grey and one color of "sand". I am not sure what the color of the "sand" is on the building in the foreground, but would would infer "sand" because it looks like some form of sand stone. I like it because I think I am seeing the art as close to what the artist intended and like the way other viewers see it, so I feel more connected to it. With other art I know that I am not seeing what is actually there and it leaves me left out. Of course, now that I have said that, someone will say "Wrong, its as colorful as when Dorothy landed in Oz." Posted by: Cuthbert the Witless at December 12, 2017 09:53 AM (ymnmz) 139

85 I just bought that house on the left.

I do. Trump knows about the corruption during the election season and has since the very beginning when he was told what was going on. He's allowing the process to unwind and let the culprits out themselves or be outed by the process and his tweets are either reinforcement or clues to what is coming. Others are just targeted pushback designed to create the narrative that the media is dishonest and petty and sure enough, the media obliges every single time. And then there are the tweets that predict what will happen which are no different from what we talk about here every single day. Remember when Trump tweeted about the insane immigration policies in Sweden? And now Sweden is finally realizing that they have an existential problem on their hands thanks to their own insane immigration policies. Who could have seen this coming? Trump is a bull in a china shop and I would like it if he could be more tactful at times but that's not what bulls do. And damned if he hasn't been proven correct time after time after time. Providence still loves Lovecraft. There is a neat little Lovecraft store in Providence in the oldest mall in the country that sells all sorts of books and other things Lovecraftian. Kind of a perfect setting. And every Halloween the Lovecraft lovers organize movie showings and scavenger hunts around the city based on his books. I was a real live Boy in Mobile during the Sesquicentennial. They had a giant party downtown with a kangaroo court in the park. I'd never seen so many drunk people in public before. The thing about Bulls in China Shops is that you can't stop them by complaining about them, or whining, or crying, or by deploring how smashy they are and shaking your head sadly.
Sooner or later, if it's your china shop, you gotta figure out a way to make the bull happy and stop antagonizing him all the time. The left still hasn't figured that out. The more they hate him, the more smashy he gets. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 12, 2017 10:17 AM (V2Yro) 219

So here is a Q for all the readers here. Is there anyone else out there who is colorblind/deficient? I am slighly colorblind. There's been a test out there for many years (Ishihara) where you are supposed to see a one- or two-digit number formed by dots of one color in a sea of dots of another color. There are a few of those I fail out of a couple of dozen(?). I have a slight deficiency in green/red. I think I see a bit more color than you do in this painting (some dark blue/puprle in the sky). I see some red brick on the house, but agree it's mostly a sandy color. Posted by: Tex Lovera at December 12, 2017 10:20 AM (wtvvX) Posted by: Under Fire at December 12, 2017 10:20 AM (r9UYA) 229

It hasn't been noted here that the Ominous and foreboding sense of the painting comes completely from the depiction of the sky. A lot like the "A Storm's Coming" scene at the end of the first Terminator. Which also makes it quite striking for something done in Europe in 1934. She worked on "open source" info, in her case related to Russia. Not sure if that means she was well suited to actually write some of the dossier. In any case, the Deep State likes to do regime change around the world (e.g. Libya, thanks Hillary/Soros for sending the Muslim hordes into Europe). So no surprise the have been involved in USA regime change/control, as we already know from Lois Lerner's long history, AND the fact Dem bureaucrats can lie to Congress, or plead the fifth, or get immunity for high crimes, and at worse walk off with their fat pension. I hope the NYPD (?) made a good copy (or 20) of the Weiner laptop. That seems to be what forced Comey to go public about Hillary that second time, yet also covering for her. Or memorize the darkness of a set of lights on a panel and such and if they use bulbs consistently across a series of components I can get it right fairly well, but when it comes to live action changing things, it's hopeless.. The singularly hardest thing is driving on 50 MPH back country roads at night and seeing a blinking single light in the distance,
------ Late at night, driving cross country two lane and we (I was a passenger) see a blinking yellow caution light in the distance. Blinking, blinking, blinking for the longest time. We got right up to it and it changed to solid red stop light. The drive jammed on the brakes and slid through the intersection coming to a stop on the other side. We sat there for a few seconds, and I said, "Might as well keep going. We're already through the intersection." Somewhere there was a local cop laughing his ass off. I don't buy the 4D chess by Trump theory. He just tweets/says what's on his mind. The fact he ends up pwning the blue checks/MSM is a fun by product. But I don't think it's intended or planned.
Posted by: #neverskankles at December 12, 2017 09:56 AM (Vt61E) I don't quite agree with this theory, either. Trump's actions remind me more of something I read about the Kasparov vs Deep Blue matches. At one point, Kasparov began making unexpected moves, that, while not really hurting his position, forced the computer to re-analyze its next move. I tend to think Trump works similarly, whether intentionally or not (probably a bit of both). His adversaries are used to the game being played a certain way, and can't adjust. No...how bad is it? Posted by: garrett at December 12, 2017 11:20 AM (RzgQJ) Like I said, it's really creepy. Apparently he traveled a lot with a female assistant. Her working conditions included sleeping in the same bed with him on all business trips, providing him unfettered access to the bathroom even when she showered, wearing skimpy lingerie while in the obligatory single room, obtaining prior approval for her wardrobe, and being subjected to continuous unwanted and unsolicited sexual advances. Maybe an affair gone bad, but it seems weirder than that. Posted by: Bilwis, Devourer of Low Glycemic Souls at December 12, 2017 11:26 AM (tMFgx) 366

Effective immediately all female staff shall pack only thong underwear for business trips.
This economy measure has been forced upon the company by reductions in baggage allowances by major airlines. Optionally, female staff may simply elect not to bring underwear. We expect male employees to pack only briefs. Commando is not acceptable. Posted by: JEM someday I can comment from my desk again at December 12, 2017 11:33 AM (UVKwo) 389

I think Trump knows exactly what he is doing with his tweets. I don't think it is multi-dimensional, it is very straightforward. I don't think that each and every tweet is calculated for a particular effect, but that in general he tweets for effect, to stay inside the media OODA loop.

I think what really throws off the viewer is how purposefully forced the
perspective is. The second building is the slave's quarters. The ceilings were low to force them to walk around bent over. Don't you know anything about socialist art?
