After Seventh Accuser Comes Forward, and With Moore Leading in Polls in Alabama, Democrats Finally Demand Al Franken Resign

That Moore is ahead now is important -- when they thought Doug Jones would just win, even with Al Franken still in the Senate, Democrats were perfectly fine keeping him.

But now with Moore ahead, Democrats realize their own indulgence of Franken (and Conyers, until a couple of days ago) is giving Republicans not just permission to vote for Moore, but a Fuck You Then Too imperative to vote for him.

So now they're calling on Franken to resign.

But only after a seventh accuser tells Politico he tried forcibly kissed her and said, seriously, "It's my right as an entertainer."

A former Democratic congressional aide said Al Franken tried to forcibly kiss her after a taping of his radio show in 2006, three years before he became a U.S. senator.

The aide, whose name POLITICO is withholding to protect her identity, said Franken (D-Minn.) pursued her after her boss had left the studio. She said she was gathering her belongings to follow her boss out of the room. When she turned around, Franken was in her face.

The former staffer ducked to avoid Franken’s lips. As she hastily left the room, she said, Franken told her: "It's my right as an entertainer."

So now, with that, and seeing that they can't have both Doug Jones and Al Franken at the same time, the Democrats have found the Courage to ask Franken, very nicely, to step aside and help them get All The Political Power.

Within minutes of each other Wednesday morning, Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Patty Murray of Washington, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire and Claire McCaskill of Missouri forcefully called on their colleague to leave office.

They didn't ask "forcefully." They're almost apologetic about it. They say it's "best" for Al Franken to step aside. They don't condemn him.

This is about as strong as it gets -- and note, Gillibrand says Franken actually has the right to just go through an easy-peasy ethics review rather than resign.

Apparently Gropin' Al will be giving some kind of statement tomorrow. He probably will resign; an unexpected, once-in-a-generation chance to hold a Senate seat in Alabama is too big an opportunity to waste protecting this fat, flabby unfunny clown, who will be replaced by a Democrat (as a Minnesota's governor will appoint Franken's replacement).

You are correct. Just swapping one libtard for another. But here is a possible theory:
Pressure mounts to get Franken to resign from a Dem safe seat. But who is the next serial sexual abuser who has yet to be revealed? It's a safe hunch there are more. And one (or more) of them won't be from a safe-Dem seat. If they get Frnaken out, precedent has been set. Now comes forth accusations/charges that are likely true against another Dem Senator. Dems can't back down then -and still claim the mantel of being for women's rights.

Posted by: Our Country is Screwed at December 06, 2017 01:32 PM (jxbfJ)

17 As mentioned by others, I think there is something in the works to go after Trump for sexual improprieties, so Franken has to go. Not sure how Menendez is going to fit into that, seems to me he is a bigger problem for the dems than Franken, so still trying to think that one through.

Posted by: LMD Outer Banker at December 06, 2017 01:32 PM (Vuaet)

18 So follow the Dems lead then. Elect Moore and if necessary force him out and keep the seat.

Democrats don't immediately get to claim a mantle of morality because they waited decades to do the right thing when it costs them nothing politically.

Two male lobbyists, who spoke on condition of anonymity to convey private conversations with legislators, said they’ve heard from male lawmakers who say they’ll no longer meet alone with any woman—whether a lobbyist, staff member or constituent. Can we stop pretending that Senate races are all about the will of the people of that state when we spend all day talking about races all over the country and then boo and cheer when people we hate and like from out of state go to that state to try and influence the outcome of the election.

Yup. And at least Conyers has the senility thing to generate sympathy. All Franken has is that he's homely and has a big mouth.

Your question probably deserves better than the quick snark I would throw.

But to answer the 'why would you want him to stay' question, I'd say this is a war. And he can be useful to our side.

Also, I don't believe the allegations, but that's a whole 'nother ball of wax. Moore is not Harvey Weinstein.

One other note, money helps but it doesn't do everything. We've seen outside money come in and try to sway elections and the locals have told them to pound sand and voted for whom they wanted. That would be a clear 'will of the people' message to me.

I expect Franken to say he just won't seek re-election, but I am willing to be surprised and throw virtual rotten tomatoes at him if he leaves. But this is all about Moore, they (both sides) do not want him seated, so Franken becomes expendable. There are no principles involved here.

One woman in court today with Alred on claim that trump groped her

So yeah, the sexual harassment hysteria is part of the plan.

.
.
.I wouldn't get too far ahead of this mess. So far there is only one woman who accused Moore of sexual assault, all of the other ones said he was a gentleman and never even kissed them while they were dating.

What franken did is way beyond any of that and there is at least one photographic piece of evidence that he admitted was true.

The single Moore accuser has been called a liar by her step son and her boyfriend from that time period. Two waitresses who worked at the restaurant she claimed to work at where she met Moore have called her a liar and said they didn't hire anyone younger than 16 and they do not remember her working there.

An officer of the Court who frequently went to that restaurant said he never saw Moore there.

Additionally, her attorney refuses to verify the only *evidence* she has is authentic or turn the yearbook over for analysis to anyone.

222 Its cute how all these women came out within the same hour to say the same thing suddenly. Their conscience finally got the best of them all at once!

This is about two things:

1) Avoiding the appearance of racism. I mean if you drum Conyers out of office over accusations and leave Franken in place with photographic proof...
2) Trying to provide the Democratic Party with a semblance of moral authority to condemn Moore.

That's all it comes down to. If it weren't for those two things, both of them would still be in office and the press would shut up about them just like it has all other accusations about other congressmen.

You notice that? It was one or two guys a day for a while. Now its crickets.

But this sets up a very dire precedent. Now if you're accused of and shown to be a scumbucket, the price is being thrown out of office. Both of these guys are very safe Dem seats, guaranteed to be replaced by another hard left fool.

But what about the next ones? Bet on the accusers being silenced, ignored, and shut down.

Posted by: Cheri at December 06, 2017 01:58 PM (oiNtH)

227 Here's a thought:

Say Moore wins. And, Conyers and Franken both resign in disgrace.

GOP waits until next year after new Senators are sworn in, then demands MOORE resign for "the good of the party/Senate/country/whatever". Republican Governor picks a Republican to replace him.

No more leverage for the Dems (assuming they had any to begin with).

It is an absolutely safe seat that has been made unsafe by Moore. I support him being elected because so far there are only allegations against him that he has denied and there hasn't been enough proof to make me not support him.

But if he does get elected and more comes out that show that he is some kind of sexual creep like Franken then I support him getting the same treatment. That way the governor can appoint his replacement, a Republican, or a new Republican can be elected in his place.

I'm not advocating surrender in any way but I am also not advocating supporting creeps on our side just because they are on our side.

Yea, money makes a huge difference which is why it was such a big deal when Senate Republicans cut him off and then when they turned the spigot back on. Moore welcomed it because he needs it.

Scum should not be allowed to stay, even if they are someone I otherwise admire and wish was in office. No, it hasn't been proven fake. Its exceptionally unlikely to be real, its bizarrely inconsistent both in content and style to reality, but its not proven fake. Really its awfully hard to prove something like that in any case, all you can do is get "expert" analysis and opinion. 272 222 Its cute how all these women came out within the same hour to say the same thing suddenly.

324 The super-conservatives keep saying "Country over party"

Well,

1. I don't have a party

2. The Republican party so far has largely hated Moore -- so the "party move" is to denounce Moore. So, if you're a staunch Republican, and you're denouncing Moore and incanting "Country over party", there's no difference.

3. Moore's a conservative

4. Blues seem to be trying to kill the country right now -- No fucking way I'm trusting them on this.

The Trump gambit--hoping that Trump is not too irredeemable to not gain something in terms of liberal agenda rollback--is now the Moore gambit.

Well, here's the thing. Not everyone who would have used that payout is necessarily a masher. Some of them would have just done it to quiet an accuser despite being innocent. Now, given the kind of human being most politicians are, I'm willing to accept that they may all be scum paying off victims, but that's not necessarily the case. Often the cost of fighting for your innocence far outweighs the cost of paying someone off,

Just ask Roy Moore, who is almost universally considered a pedophile because a few women talked to one of the most bitterly partisan news organizations in the country.

334 At first glance you'd think people like Franken would be too toxic for anything in the public eye. But there's still one way for them to cash in on this and make lemonade from lemons.

Franken, Spacey, Weinstein, Lauer, Rose and Russell Simmons could do a reality show created just for them: "Celebrities in Sex Rehab". It would share their group therapy sessions, aversion therapy and drug treatments.

Eventually, like Clockwork Orange, they would graduate if a sexy woman could be brought into their midst and they wouldn't grope her.

My point is pretty clear. People only say they don't want outside sources telling them who to vote for when those outside voices tell them to vote against their wishes. When outside voices tell them to vote the way the person wanted to all along, they like those voices.

I don't think Moore is going to lose either and based on what I know right now I would support him if I had a vote. All I was saying is that if the charges do prove to be true or something else comes out that shows he really does have problems then yea, I would support him getting the Franken treatment.

I can see what the Dems are doing as clearly as anyone else by forcing Franken out right now. They are trying to influence the election in Alabama because they know if Franken resigns he will be replaced with another Democrat so they lose nothing. I do not support playing their game and giving the seat to Jones.

If Moore wins and he is forced out because of his own baggage the Republican governor in AL can appoint another Republican Senator and we are back to the status quo. That is an ok outcome for me.

386 There is a component of this that I believe is fair game to put out there. I am sick to death of the hollow vessels that are mormon politicians like Mitt Romney, Jeff Flake, et al., waxing poetic on their moral high horses. I am an ex-Mormon.

I am here to tell you that Mitt Romney worships a pedophile demigod. The history of Joseph Smith is some of the most reprehensibly explicit salacious material in all of American history. Marrying 14 year olds, sexual affairs to other teenagers he's not married to, marrying other men's wives, sending men off to do work for the church while banging their wives back home. And even this stuff just scratches the surface frankly.

Right at this very moment there is an uprising in the Mormon/LDS church to end the practice of sexually explicit ecclesiastical interviews that Mormon youth, young girls and boys, are subjected to by old priesthood holding men one on one behind closed doors. I was repeatedly asked about things like masturbation as a child and teen, and coerced into detailed discussions about natural sexual thoughts floating around in my head. What do you think about when you masturbate? Describe how you touch yourself. And so on.

Mitt Romney, both as a bishop and stake president, was one of the men that took children into a room and asked them questions like this. He'd tell boys they shouldn't masturbate or it will make them gay. If they did, he'd setup "recovery" programs for them, bring them into his office on a regular basis to quiz them on their sexual thoughts and actions. Same stuff for the girls. Oh, he touched you, where did he touch you. Describe it for me, in detail.

And keep in mind the difference of the situations. Roy Moore supposedly came onto a girl. One time. No repeated contact after that. She's free to run, etc. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, would systematically subject children to this type of abuse, where all the adults around them, their parents, etc, are tacitly endorsing this abuse and forcing their children into a situation where they must submit to it. The sort of shit that really gets into a person's head and sets them up for a life of dysfunction well into adulthood.

Ronan Farrow seems determined that the story will be told. I'm not convinced he wouldn't have gone fully independent to publish it if the New Yorker wouldn't do it.

The question is whether other women would have come forward or if people would have rallied around Hillary. Probably that but I'm not entirely sure.

I'm convinced that a lot of those women, reliably leftist women, would have avoided coming forward if Frau Gruppencankles had won the election. Because it would have made things VERY uncomfortable for the First Woman President because of the actions of her One True Love, Bubba.

Now that her political career is in tatters, and everyone knows that Hillary Clinton Will Never Be President, there isn't an incentive to protect her delicate sensibilities anymore.

453 Right at this very moment there is an uprising in the Mormon/LDS church to end the practice of sexually explicit ecclesiastical interviews that Mormon youth, young girls and boys, are subjected to by old priesthood holding men one on one behind closed doors. I was repeatedly asked about things like masturbation as a child and teen, and coerced into detailed discussions about natural sexual thoughts floating around in my head. What do you think about when you masturbate? Describe how you touch yourself.

It was pretty sickening watching the Michigan returns. Normally Detroit counties are the first to have 100% reporting. However, last year, they stayed pale blue as the red upstate votes came in. And you could just see the gears grinding: "Well, we have to know how many votes we have to manufacture" down in the districts of Detroit.
