The Morning Report 12/6/17

promise.jpg

Good morning kids. The middle of the week is upon us and the top story for today will be President Trump's announcement later today that he intends on starting the process of moving our embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, thus officially recognizing that city as Israel's capital. I will not go into the religious and historic significance of Jerusalem to Judaism, but suffice it to say that the city itself has been a pillar of Jewish identity since time immemorial. From a political standpoint, I will only paraphrase a rather salient comment made by Nevergiveup; since the city is more or less divided between Israel and the Palestinian authority, at least half of that city is (ingenuously or not) regarded as Israeli territory, so moving our embassy there should cause zero controversy. But as we all know, since the goal of both adherents to Islam and its evil twin Leftism is to wipe Israel off the map, this cannot stand. Before Israel liberated the city in the 1967 Six Day War, Jews were forbidden from entering and holy sites including the graves of ancient Jewish forefathers were desecrated - a pattern that still exists throughout the Muslim world today and is gradually taking hold in Europe. It should be noted that since 1967, Muslim and Christian holy sites in the city have been preserved and protected by Israel and, as mentioned,Palestinians use their neighborhoods within the city as well as the West Bank as a base from which to kill Israeli citizens and oppress their own people. But that is par for the course. If the Muslim world and their slaves/pawns/cannon fodder in the Palestinian movement really wanted peace with Israel, there would be no reaction from their side at all. As a note to Jared Kushner and others in the "peace process" scam, the only two state solution the Palestinians and the Left are interested in is one Palestinian State in place of Israel, and a "final solution" to the Jews.

In short, bravo Mr. President. You have done the right thing, kept a promise and at the same time given a proverbial boot to the groin of Joo-haters of all stripes the world over (Obama *cough* Obama). In related news, the House also passed a resolution cutting off funding to the Palestinian Authority for continuing to financially support and praise terrorists and terrorists attacks from the areas they control. Hope it sails through the Senate just as swiftly so the President can sign it into law. It would be the perfect underscore to moving our embassy.

Back here at home, the Insurrection against PDT continues to dominate the headlines. Little by little the abject phoniness and corruption embodied in Robert Mueller is being exposed for all the world to see. While this shitshow should never have been allowed to get rolling in the first place (you awake, Beauregard?), once it did get going there should have been very tight constraints and guidelines placed upon it. Again, that never happened. I have always been hot and horny to fire Mueller and shut this all down. But the optics of it would have been sub-optimal for the President. And now, as all the corruption of Strzok, Weissmann, Comey and Mueller himself is being revealed, it might be best for the President to just sit back and let them hoist themselves on their own petards. Yeah, I know, nothing will happen to them although in a just and sane world, they'd be thrown into PMITA prison for the rest of their miserable existences. Some have postulated that perhaps Mueller, in now openly shifting from collusion to impeachment, is actually goading PDT into firing him just so that the meme can be generated that Trump is trying to cover up his crimes and that he really is illegitimate. Maybe letting him continue to expose himself is not such a bad strategy.

As mentioned yesterday, the gay wedding cake case in SCOTUS will probably yet again be decided upon by that great legal mind Anthony Kennedy. And we all know what that means. There's an interesting piece at American Thinker that actually presents the argument that Kennedy's insane ruling forcing gay marriage on the entire nation might act in the baker's favor.

Lastly, Steve Bannon headlined a large rally in Alabama for Judge Roy Moore. No doubt he will face a lot of heat in the Senate if he does indeed win, as the tea leaves indicate he will. But he has a number of colleagues as well as a President and a base that will have his back. Remember, when he won the runoff way back a million years ago at the end of the summer, one of his campaign promises was leading the charge to oust Mitch McYertle. Go Moore!

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

Last month marked 100 years since the Bolshevik Revolution, though
college culture would give you precisely the opposite impression.
Depictions of communism on campus paint the ideology as revolutionary or
idealistic, overlooking its authoritarian violence. Instead of
deepening our understanding of the world, the college experience teaches
us to reduce one of the most destructive ideologies in human history to
a one-dimensional, sanitized narrative.

The Gay Marriage Ruling Supports the Baker

I think it boils down to the concept of 'service' vs 'product'.

The service is decorating the cake, delivering the cake, attending the event. The product is the cake. No baker is refusing the product, only the service.

When laws legislate that services must be provided by artists -- no matter how heinous it might be for the artist to create, then that's a country I don't think we really want.

.I will know when someone is serious about reforming food stamps when they say people can't buy soda with them.

That was a huge problem in Kentucky when we lived there. At the first of the month Walmart would line up pallets of soda at the front of the store and the food stamp people would come in and buy it all up. Then they would drive it to a place in Lexington who would buy it from them for 50 cents on the dollar paying them in cash.

Everyone knew this scam was going on it was the subject of two special reports by the local TV and newspaper but no one did anything. The State AG said he would look into it and everyone forgot about it.

They even named it; "The Kentucky Pop Train", and it is still going on. 100% fraud right out in the open and everyone knows about it but the AG refuses to do anything about it.

81 Ajit Pai op-ed in Wash Times putting the focus on the lack of transperency from Silicon Valley instead of ISPs:

But is this regulatory arbitrage in the interest of the American
people? I don't think so. That's especially true because large Silicon
Valley platforms today pose a far greater threat to a free and open
internet than do internet service providers. Let's look at just some
recent examples.
Twitter refused to allow Rep. Marsha Blackburn,
Tennessee Republican, to promote her Senate campaign launch video
because it contained a pro-life message. YouTube restricted access to
many videos from noted conservative commentator Dennis Prager's Prager
University. These videos addressed a number of important issues,
including a lecture from Alan Dershowitz on the history of Israel

85 The only way places like Baltimore will ever see any peace is if martial law is declared and the military is sent in to wage war on the violent denizens of these slums. 96 Apropos of nothing, on the ONT towards the end there was some discussion of phonograph speeds. Growing up, we had quite a few record players, console "hi-fi" sets, console stereos (I always thought these sounded the best), component stereos and even portable turntables (usually with radios built into them as well).

Every one of them had four speed settings, 78, 45, 33 and 16, from the first to the last. When I was very small we did find some 78s, which belonged to one of my parents. They were all Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, "big band" stuff. Never saw any marketed later that operated at that speed, although the turntables always had the speed setting for them.

In my vinyl heyday, all the records were either 45s or 33s, "singles" and "LPs" respectively. Never once did I ever see a 16 RPM disk, ever, although a poster on the ONT says there were certain specialized applications for disks at that speed. I always found in interesting that right up until the turntable passed into history in the 1980s (for the most part, except for some audiophiles), 78 and 16 were still included on them right up to the end, even though for many years disks recorded at that speed were well nigh nonexistent.

Even Breyer seemed to be uncomfortable with Colorado's position.

I have a feeling that this case is not going to end up as a clear win for the gays. Probably won't be a clear win for the baker either. I'm anticipating some type of muddled, pieced-together mess of a decision.

As I said in a comment yesterday, Mueller's team has no incentive to ever finish. All that on the taxpayer's dime, with a no-time-limit charter from the Department of Justice. A good job if you can get it.

They have a variety classes to teach people how to make foods like rice and beans stretch to many meals so that any EBT/food money isn't wasted on more expensive prepared fast foods. Oh, and despite ts big operation, this food bank only has *two* paid employees - all other staff is volunteer.

Food stamps doesn't do this, it does the opposite: in enables laziness and poor choices starting with giving them EBT cards that are automatically loaded for them without having to lift a finger. Just another example of private charity doing it so much better than government entitlements, and at a fraction of the operational cost.

154 Speaking of cat puke, many years ago, we had our house up for sale. Agent called to show the house. I packed up Jr. Black who was just a baby and headed out the door -- leaving my indoor Siamese there. After the prescribed time, I went home, walked in and there, right in the middle of the living room carpet (ivory colored, of course) was a huge pile of cat puke. I'm sure the prospective buyers loved it. They didn't buy the house.

157 Kennedy is thought to be sympathetic to the baker's religious liberties, which is kinda hilarious since he single-handedly put him in this position in the first place. He should have been sympathetic to the rights of citizens to define marriage instead of dictating his personal morality on the vast majority of states and then calling it "law".

It is the opposite of law.

160 "You'd get staples like government cheese in big blocks, powdered milk. The cheese was astonishing. It was uncuttable by any knife we owned; maybe some of welfare's more stabby recipients with sharper knives fared better. "

Late 70's, back on USS First-Ship, it was amazing to see the butter patties, butter blocks and cheese that we loaded onto the ship. All marked as surplus, from the government food program.

Growing up poor, one of the selling points of Navy service was all the free butter you could eat.

Met the agent who opened the door we walked in and I stepped in a pile of cat vomit. There were multiple cats in the house and cat puke was all over the place. Turned around and walked right out.

I met a retired local-studio engineer from the golden era who had been given the station's turntable and collection of records when he left. IIRC they were mostly programs like "Hawaii Calls." The turntable itself was yuuge, and made of some kind of concrete. The whole unit was the size of a washing machine. And they mailed those huge records out, every week.

Also if you were a lit major in that not-so-golden era, there were LP-sized 16RPM records with endless readings by Sandburg and Frost and Dylan Thomasyearsandyears andyearsagowhentherewerewolvesinwales

Allow me to attempt the mental contortions of liberal logic.

Trump *IS* anti-Semitic and declaring Jerusalem the capital and is moving the US Embassy to destabilize the region so he can illegally enrich himself in violation of the emoluments clause.

(ignore that Senate vote in 1995 where the Senate overwhelmingly voted in favor of recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Senator Finestein only voted for it because she knew President Clinton would not act)

Years ago (I think I was maybe 20 or 21 at the time) I was standing in the checkout line at a grocery store, and in front of me was this "couple of color", dressed very nicely for the time, with a grocery cart loaded to the gunwales with nothing but steaks. When it came time for them to pay, the male half whips out a book of food stamps (they were printed on paper, and said "Food Stamp" on them). A few minutes later as I'm leaving with my handful of groceries, I pass this same couple, loading up their shiny new Cadillac with all those steaks they'd just bought with food stamps. That was when I first learned there was something fundamentally wrong with the system, and it has not improved in the decades since.

Yep, sort of the gay version of Roe v. Wade.

I thought it was interesting when one of the women justices, can't recall which one, said that wedding cakes are not about expression, they are just to eat. If that was true, then nobody would care what the cake looked like, they would only care how it tasted. But couples spend huge amounts of money to get a wedding cake decorated in a specific way. Even the gay couple in this case showed up at the cake shop with an "idea book" full of photos of what they liked. They clearly cared about more than how the cake tasted.

And he says that l'affaire Levine is the end of the Metropolitan Opera. Not a blow (!), an affront, a danger. He says the Met will close up shop.
Because the board and staff of the Met just will not be able to say "nobody knew" with a straight face. And opera in the rest of the country is just pitiably reliant on the Oz-like (Ozymandian?) li'l world of the Met.

Now in terms of actual impact to New York City, this rates well above the theoretical range of North Korean missiles. Can the musicals be next?

But what I want to know is, who knew what at Texaco, and when?

270 Good morning horde. On behalf of Fenelon, I have the Advent reading for this Wednesday, Dec. 6:

From the Gospel of Luke, Chapter One:

"In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David.

And the virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!"

But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be.

And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High.
And the Lord God will give to Him the throne of his father David,
And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever,
and of His kingdom there will be no end."

Mary, a young, innocent Jewish girl, perhaps around 15 years old, was living a quiet life in a small town called Nazareth. A girl who loved God and obeyed His word.

This unknown, innocent, nobody, living in the middle of nowhere, was going to give birth to the Promised One of Israel. She was about to become the mother of the Son of God.

The angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, just as he had to her cousin, Elizabeth. And just like her cousin Elizabeth, Mary would also have an unexpected child. Only this child would not prepare the way for the Messiah. That was Elizabeth's child's job. John the Baptist would prepare the way for the Lord.

This child - Mary's child - actually IS the Lord.

He would be called Jesus, for He would save the people from their sins.

Regarding the submarine propeller thing, back in the day we knew how to grind and shape the propeller to reduce cavitation and they did not. Cavitation is tiny bubbles on the edge of the propeller (can't recall if it's leading or trailing). Anyway, cavitation makes noise - which is bad for submarines - we could find theirs, they couldn't find ours. Then Bubba approved selling them the machine for shaping and grinding the propellers. Now they're propulsion system is orders of magnitude quieter and things are more dangerous for our submarine crews.

And yet none dare call it treason.

First LP I ever bought (at 13) was Bill Cosby's "200MPH", where he talks about the time Carrol Shelby sold him a Shelby Cobra race car. "The speedometer went all the way to 200 MPH...and past that it said..."Oh, Wow"". Must have played that one a hundred times and laughed my ass off every time...

They can pick up the slack if the Met's program falls apart.

But I think there's still too much money that would be left on the table for the Met's backers to really walk away. They'll figure some way out to appease the SJW's and keep on keeping on.

307 96 Apropos of nothing, on the ONT towards the end there was some discussion of phonograph speeds.

I have actually seen 8 RPM records and 16s. The library of Congress used to have a books on vinyl program for the disabled. My uncle used to subscribe. The LOC provided the player, mono portable record player.

One of the justices, I think it was Breyer, said yesterday that he would be uncomfortable with the baker having a sign in the shop window that said something like "we don't sell gay wedding cakes." But why is that so offensive? Lots of businesses don't provide specific services or products that some customer may want.

Muslim meat shops don't offer pork products. If I go into one and ask to buy bacon, they're going to tell me they don't offer that. Should I then have the right to demand that they sell it to me, and sue them if they refuse? 326 In RE: The Mueller Affair.

President Trump, for all of the bedwetters' fears, is not an impulsive intemperate person. He is actually a very deliberate person who follows procedures carefully. As I see it everything he has done as president is not assailable on procedural grounds, from his executive orders regarding immigration to his dealings with Congress. Despite his zings he is always willing to talk and negotiate, he just lets the others (who complain about his lack of decorum) go batcrap crazy and act out - Nancy and Chuck and the empty chairs, for example.

I doubt now that Mueller is going to find anything on him or his family. Everything is going to have been run through accountants and attorneys first, and any errors are going to be de minimis, or plausible interpretations, or blame-shifted. I think Mueller & Co. realize this (or will very soon) that they have picked a target that is very canny and has the resources necessary to fight.

The Frontpage article JJ linked above is even more damning,

Weissmann, like the rest of Team Mueller, wasn't there to get at
the truth, but to stop President Trump. The Mueller deputy is one of two
Obama donors on the team. There are also five Clinton donors. One of
whom had represented the Clinton Foundation. Another had represented
Justin Cooper, the Clinton adviser, who helped run Hillary's email

It's hard to imagine how this investigation could have been any more partisan or tainted.

The reality of being on the brink of losing his 93 y.o. mother is hitting him hard. She and his aunt live in the same retirement community and have great care, but are both fading.

359 Just to let you know, people on the commodities program traded stuff they didn't want. But they had food, if they were willing to cook. Back in the day, I knew a number of women on welfare/food stamps. The smart ones used it until the kids were in school then found jobs. The holidays were tough because you got the food stamps at the first of the month and you had to stretch them until the end of the month.

We need to get rid of the EBT cards. I know folks that kept getting the card loaded while they were in jail. And it's all done online. Make them have to go in to apply. They should be easy to get if you truly need them. (And based on your actual income- not the income you need to pay the bills). I don't have a problem with single people getting them, if they are out of work. It's supplemental-it's not supposed to be your entire food budget.

I used the meat shop example because I read a piece in some magazine that said that muslim-owned meat shops in NYC do business only with customers that are known to them. If they don't know you, or you are not referred to them by some other muslim they trust, they simply won't do business with you. They avoid discrimination lawsuits by choosing to do business only with other muslims.

If the SCOTUS continues on down the road it's been on, that is soon going to be SOP for the rest of the businesses in this country as well.

The ambassador and the embassy staff are always at risk in "critical" countries, and Israel, whether the embassy is in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem or anywhere in the country, is a critical country because of the high risk of threat from anti Israel groups.

Security is "supposed" to be tight, but honestly, it depends on the strength of the Regional Security Officer. Some are very good-and I have been blessed to work with them. Some are mediocre, and some are worthless. See Benghazi. But in general, security in these types of countries are pretty good-there are protocols and procedures in place.

I am more worried about the low level staff, who are the softer targets.

415 Matt Lauer, like Charlie Rose and Mark Halperin before him, is a journalist out of a job after his employer fired him for sexually harassing female colleagues. It's good news that real penalties are now leveled on men who harass -- after centuries of the costs mostly befalling the women who endure harassment. But the deep cultural rot that has corroded nearly all of our institutions and every corner of our culture is not just about a few badly behaved men. Sexual harassment, and the sexism it's predicated on, involves more than the harassers and the harassed; when the harassers are men with loud microphones, their private misogyny has wide-reaching public consequences. One of the most significant: the 2016 election.

Many of the male journalists who stand accused of sexual harassment were on the forefront of covering the presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Matt Lauer interviewed Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump in an official "commander-in-chief forum" for NBC. He notoriously peppered and interrupted Mrs. Clinton with cold, aggressive, condescending questions hyper-focused on her emails, only to pitch softballs at Mr. Trump and treat him with gentle collegiality a half-hour later. Mark Halperin and Charlie Rose set much of the televised political discourse on the race, interviewing other pundits, opining themselves and obsessing over the electoral play-by-play. Mr. Rose, after the election, took a tone similar to Mr. Lauer's with Mrs. Clinton -- talking down to her, interrupting her, portraying her as untrustworthy. Mr. Halperin was a harsh critic of Mrs. Clinton, painting her as ruthless and corrupt, while going surprisingly easy on Mr. Trump. The reporter Glenn Thrush, currently on leave from The New York Times because of sexual harassment allegations, covered Mrs. Clinton's 2008 campaign when he was at Newsday and continued to write about her over the next eight years for Politico.

A pervasive theme of all of these men's coverage of Mrs. Clinton was that she was dishonest and unlikable. These recent harassment allegations suggest that perhaps the problem wasn't that Mrs. Clinton was untruthful or inherently hard to connect with, but that these particular men hold deep biases against women who seek power instead of sticking to acquiescent sex-object status.

I have a B-in-law who went through a nasty, nasty divorce with some personality disordered woman in Louisiana. 5 years of proceedings - 5 long years of bitter, hateful court fights, rage letters (to him) phenomenal lawyers fees - amazing how long someone can drag something out when their sole purpose is revenge.

Amazingly (probably because he was so burned on relationships) he actually stayed celibate for the first 4 years of that nightmare, until he happened to meet a very nice (and mentally healthy) woman who he is now married to.

And of course, the ex was outraged and accused him of "breaking them up" because he started dating someone else before the divorce was final, even though it was 4 years AFTER she hauled him into court and made his life a living hell.

Reports from underlings who actually worked for the Clintons also report that she is that she is dishonest and unlikeable and abusive to people of lower status than herself, of who she doesn't need any sort of approval.

That she was unable to turn that around and be gracious to people she needed to approve of her is telling of a serious failing in a politician.

Attacking bakeries is a deliberate strategy. The plaintiffs are NOT just regular people who are in luuuuuuv and happen to be gay. They're soldiers.

The whole point is to get multiple wins on the board, by attacking small businesses who don't have the resources to defend themselves.

And this is the key point, they are FRIVOLOUS businesses. Why raise such a stink about a cake? It's such a small, inconsequential thing.
