Just Skynet, Nothing To Worry About

Hi everyone. If you're seeing this, it means my frantic emergency blog surgery worked.

The server was fine all along. What happened was that back in 2006 or thereabouts, one of the mu.nu bloggers uploaded a few MP3 files to his blog. Today, a clever little bot out on the internet discovered them and fired off a barrage of automated DMCA takedown requests, including some duplicates.

A bot at our hosting provider noticed the multiple DMCA takedown requests and turned off our IP address, leading to much sadness.

I just needed to move the sites to a different IP address, but the existing IP address was the primary IP for the virtual server, so I couldn't get directly into the server, and it couldn't re-sync DNS with the rest of the cluster even when I had gotten in, so a certain amount of comedy ensued.

So basically we got taken out by Skynet, just 20 years late.

Oh, as mentioned in the comments, the site might load slowly for some people for the next couple of hours, as the DNS propagates out to the rest of the observable universe. That should sort itself out automatically, though.

Yeah, there's a couple of different DNS references (www.ace.mu.nu vs. ace.mu.nu) and if only one of them is working for you it will get stuck for 30 seconds waiting for the other.

That will sort itself out in the next couple of hours.

Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 28, 2017 07:30 PM (2yngH)

47 I like the Nork idea better. They launched an EMP on the OSpades compound. Ace spent the day in his basement lair- you know, the one with the banks of wall size computer screens streaming lines of code and glass dry erase boards covered in mathematical computations- anyway he was banging away at his keyboard all day trying to reroute the site through different servers while Nork hackers were hot on his tail trying to take him down. Finally got a message through now. You have no idea what it takes to run a smart
Military blog.

It depends on your ISP's DNS servers. So it's working for some people, half-working for others, not working yet for some.

390 Seemed a bit nefarious that AoS had been disappeared.

Yesterday a little girl was "abducted" from her home and has been the subject of an Amber Alert, and has all the local law enforcement, including military police and NCIS from Camp Lejeune, and the FBI cruising our neighborhood (less than a mile away) and the main thoroughfare. Quite a day with 2 law enforcement helicopters, 2 Hueys and a Cobra from the Marine Corps Base at New River flying low racetracks over my house and neighborhood. I spent the day appreciating what several shitheads in Iraq and Afghanistan must have seen in their last remaining moments on earth.

Anyways, it has been almost 2 days since either her mother or the mother's boyfriend "saw her" and the likelihood is that she has met a tragic end. Prayers for young Mariah Woods, she did not deserve her fate.
