Quotes of The Day

Quote I

We live in strange times. Never has maleness been more difficult, less socially acceptable, and more dangerous to one’s health, wellbeing, career, and liberty. A once-proud gender, a bit under 50% of humanity, has been, through the miracle of gender fluidity, the invention of new pronouns, legislation, public opinion and politics, reduced to uncertain pariah status, at least on the coasts, on college campuses and now in the halls of Congress. Mike McDaniel

Quote II

“I know a lot of white Christians who are upset by what’s happening at Standing Rock, and upset by our segregated communities. But they don’t necessarily see how our Christian patterns over the last several hundred years have created the conditions for those things, so they don’t feel responsible for them.” Jeannine Hill Fletcher

Quote III

None of us feels the true love of God till we realize how wicked we are. But you can't teach people that - they have to learn by experience. Dorothy L. Sayers

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or A fool and his money is soon parted.

An American woman has just become a millionaire after selling her virginity online to the highest bidder in a controversial auction.

Giselle is a 19-year-old American model who put her virginity for sale on the website cinderella-escorts.com.
The websites specialises in ‘International High-Class Escorts’. The website also has a section where women can sell their virginity to the highest bidder.
The website reports that the highest bidder was a businessman from Abu Dhabi of €2.5 million ($2.95 million). This was then followed by a Hollywood actor then a Russian politician.

We sent a man to the moon. We've sent a "rover" to Mars. So why does our cell service suck?

If you're living in the US, there's a good chance you're using a phone on one of the four major carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. But in my conversations with friends, family and colleagues, I feel like I rarely hear anyone claim they're actually happy with their cell service. If you're reading this story, it's possible you're also dissatisfied.

To boot, US carriers don't rank too well against other carriers abroad. According to the MobiNEX research report conducted by Aptelligent published in October of last year, the US landed in 10th place out of 25 for overall carrier performance, including reliability and speeds. Ahead of the US, in order: Japan, France, the UK, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Australia.

I still travel in areas where there is no signal.

Hypocrisy on full display, The wrath of do-gooders.

Everyone agrees that to be left-wing and liberal is to be a better, more caring and compassionate human being. It proves what an enlightened and open-minded person you are. It sets you apart from conservatives and right-wingers, those selfish and nasty folk who are obviously racist, oafish and horrid. I mean, just look at Nigel Farage, Donald Trump and people of that ilk. Aren’t they ghastly?

All this is true, right? Wrong. Being caring is actually a licence to be nasty. Not only this year have we witnessed a torrent of abuse and slander from the supposedly caring left, directed at so-called populists in the UK and the US, we have also seen physical violence acted upon them. Consider the aftermath of the US presidential election. On the New York subway, someone tried to strangle a 24-year-old wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ cap. A 49-year-old in Chicago was dragged down the street by a crowd screaming ‘you voted Trump!’ and ‘you’re gonna pay for that shit!’. In Maryland, a group of high-school protesters – carrying signs with the words ‘Love Trumps Hate’ – came across a 15-year-old fellow student wearing a Trump hat and beat him up.

The old administration, "Parts is parts." The new administration, "Not so fast."

We are living through a remarkable time in history. Almost daily, those in influential positions who once appeared untouchable are falling out of popular favor as their abuses are exposed.

Earlier this month, one particularly corrupt institution was dealt back-to-back blows: Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business.

Need a vegan pizza? Probably not, but.............Pizza Hut is now making vegan pizza.

If the only thing stopping you from inhaling Pizza Hut is that it’s not vegan, you … no longer have that excuse. The U.K. arm of the chain announced today that a nondairy cheese will be joining its menu in two days, on November 29.

Because nothing says that was f*cking tasty like fake cheese and faker pepperoni.

Much Vaunted National Health System.

34-year old Kelly Yeoman was initially hospitalized for a small "fluid filled sac" on her ovary. But by the time the (rocket?) surgeons were done with her, she was left confined to a hospital bed, her body "slowly filling with her own excrement."

And since it's not likely that her care's going to be getting any better under the auspices of the MVNHS©, her family and friends are trying to raise about $13,000 so she can avail herself of private treatment.

And it's urgent:

"[H]er bowel could perforate at any moment – at best meaning she would need a colostomy."

But hey, free!

[update] Give the ibguy your vote for his blog.

No comment from the 1%er Bernie Sanders.

Five States ask the worthless, do-nothing, useless Congress to pass CCW National Reciprocity.

A group of state attorneys general has signed on to a letter urging lawmakers to approve a measure that would allow universal recognition if concealed carry permits across the nation.

The letter, signed by the top legal advisors in Alabama, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana and South Carolina, supports the passage the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, a U.S. Senate bill, or the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, a similar measure in the U.S. House.

“Passing this law would not expand who’s allowed to have a concealed weapon permit,” said South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson in a statement. “It just eliminates the confusion we have now over which states recognize which other states’ permits and makes that constitutional right uniform across the country. The Framers were unwavering in their right to self-protection and steadfast in their support of the Second Amendment.”

"Experts Say Universal Basic Income Would Boost US Economy by Staggering $2.5 Trillion"

In recent months, everyone from Elon Musk to Sir Richard Branson has come out in favor of universal basic income (UBI), a system in which every person receives a regular payment simply for being alive. Now, a study carried out by the Roosevelt Institute has concluded that implementing a UBI in the U.S. could have a positive effect on the nation’s economy.

The study looked at three separate proposals: a “basic income” of $1,000 per month given to every adult, a “base income” of $500 per month given to every adult, and a “child allowance” of $250 per month for every child. The researchers concluded that the larger the sum, the more significant the positive economic impact.

The ONT says BULLSHIT.

For every action there is a reaction. Antifa activist Yvette Felarca is being sued by former U-Cal student.

The former president of the Berkeley College Republicans has sued known Antifa activist Yvette Felarca after a “frivolous” restraining she had filed against him was dropped.

“Felarca’s frivolous legal actions were meant to intimidate me and hinder my political activism, but also prevented me from going to class on occasion. I can now go on with my main purpose at UC Berkeley, which is to get an education and exercise my free speech rights without interference,” Troy Worden told Campus Reform after both a temporary and permanent restraining order were dismissed.

"Felarca and her attorney attempted to make free speech expensive and it is time that they pay for their misuse of the court system."

Now, Worden and his attorney, Mark Meuser, have announced in a press release that they will be seeking more than $100,000 in damages from Felarca, noting that the restraining orders were an attempt to restrict Worden’s First Amendment rights.

What's that old college chant, "Hit her again, harder, harder"? Hope her wallet takes a beating.

The researchers concluded that the larger the sum, the more significant the positive economic impact.

The ONT says BULLSHIT.

Bottom line: for now, lower courts have "reversed" SCOTUS on a key part of Heller (firearms in common use), as a practical matter. And with contempt, if you read their ruling.

Likely additional bottom line: CA (possibly other states) get "assault weapons" ban within a year.

Once enacted, the next Lib Admin could wipe this out Nationally with one vote.

Leave this with the states, please.
-------------------

It'll stay with the states, actually. The bill is a "reciprocity" bill. The thinking is that if you live in North Dakota, you don't need to get a New York driver's license if you want to drive a car during your vacation in New York. Similarly, if you have a carry permit in your home state, you should be allowed to carry in states that you're traveling through. You shouldn't have to worry about getting arrested because you ran afoul of gun laws when your flight had an unexpected stopover in New York City (which *has* happened in the past).

In short, it will still be up to the states to issue permits. So don't expect too many Bay Area Californians to be utilizing their CCW rights while visiting Texas (because they don't have any, unless they're politically connected). But a Texan visiting California will be able to utilize his right if he has the necessary permit back home.

============================

It has always been optional at the state level, unless state constitutions guarantee a right to keep and bear arms.

The federal Constitution only limits Congress. And, presumably, federal courts (if they are inclined to accept the limit, that is). The federal limitation has zero impact on state legislatures. Only a state Constitution can limit their actions.

The Dems will talk tough about it. And they'll fight to keep the Federal laws from becoming more permissive. But that's the extent of it. Anyone who does push for gun control at that level lives in a blue state, and is pushing legislation that everyone knows will be DOA.

Likely additional bottom line: CA (possibly other states) get "assault weapons" ban within a year.

And no, kindly "then move out of CA" know-nothings, the issue is not CA, but the fact that the 2A - unique among all constitutional rights - will be, de facto, made optional at the state level. If things don't change. Lawlessness, it's what's for dinner, breakfast, and lunch.
----------------

I dropped in at the CalGuns forum after hearing about the cert denial to see what the take was there. The general opinion is that if the Supreme Court doesn't step in, it probably won't be long (not this coming year, but soon enough) before we have laws on the books here restricting us to a single handgun that can only carry a single bullet. Because that will supposedly meet Heller's requirements.

It was not a substantive argument, so I did ignore it. This hypothetical future government you speak of, it will do what it will do. If today's government makes carry permits from the individual states valid in all states (like the case with drivers licenses), it does not give the future government power to ban concealed carry nationwide.

Anyway, the argument you made, that I responded to, was that there was a move to legislate national concealed carry. It was inaccurate.

=======================================

The Federal Constitution does not limit the authority of states to enact any laws and enforce them in that state, except in those areas where the states agreed to give up authority to the Congress. That was true until Congress got the right to levy taxes and could start paying off state governments, or threatening to withhold money more particularly. The state legislatures are instead limited by state Constitutions.

New Jersey passes laws all the friggin time limiting the right to keep and bear arms, laws that would be entirely unacceptable in, for example, Nevada. The federal Constitution does not give Congress any say in either state's choices in the matter.

I learned all this last night at a Holiday Inn Express, so somebody with real legal experience should obviously be your go-to authority (rather than me).

232 Barack Obama is a bad bad man, think we're mixing some issues.

Certain const. rights constrain state govts. as well (thus, no state laws failing to pass muster on things like the 1st and 4th amendments, for example). Believe Heller and McDonald, as noted by flounder, applied the 2nd to states as well.

Haven't reviewed the details since the ruling - which was stunning at the time - but the 4th circuit directly defied Heller WRT firearms in common use, as I recall it.

Anyway, as always there's infinite ways to rationalize and speculate about SCOTUS denying review. But as noted the bottom line is that millions of people are denied const. protections - in this case, even on specific rights that *have* been ruled on by SCOTUS.

Some states are already doing this.

The problem is the blue strongholds that refuse to do so. New York City in particular is a problem spot because the gun laws there are much stricter than in the rest of the state, and travelers who arrive in the city due to things like unplanned layovers have been arrested because they happened to have a gun with them that's perfectly legal at the flight's starting point and planned destination point.

I do not disagree with the sentiment that a constitutional right is a constitutional right. If I had my way, we wouldn't be having this discussion, because you and I and anyone else would carry as we damn well please and if stopped by the police, it's because they want to talk shop about the guns we have versus what they carry.

HOWEVER, I also know that we got to the point (concerning guns) where we are at today via incrementalism, and in order to get to where you and I would agree we need to be, we will need to use incrementalism - if only because we have a lot of little children in this country who look at a handgun the way a vampire looks at a cross.

This law should, of course, be attacked on that basis. But I don't think any suits have yet been filed. That earlier law was struck down prior to entry into force, BTW - so I don't know that it's required to wait for the new one before a suit is filed.

Hard to believe CalGuns and CRPA and NRA and SAF have given up, and won't do something.

I'd really like to see it attacked on the grounds of burdening a right, due to the cost and hassle imposed. I think there have been somewhat similar cases in the past, involving other things, that struck down laws deemed to burden the 2A right.

Thought I read that the 9th Circus of all people put a hold on some of those provisions, specifically the over 10 round magazine provision.

How about having the states get together and agree to compacts among each other for the purposes of concealed-carry reciprocity? This way, you bypass the federal government. Compacts already exist among states for other things. Why not this?
----------------

Some states are already doing this.

The problem is the blue strongholds that refuse to do so. New York City in particular is a problem spot because the gun laws there are much stricter than in the rest of the state, and travelers who arrive in the city due to things like unplanned layovers have been arrested because they happened to have a gun with them that's perfectly legal at the flight's starting point and planned destination point.
Posted by: junior at November 28, 2017 11:10 PM (+EL0+)

I'm thinking of something more broad based and uniform. Take CO. I am good to go carrying concealed there - I have a TX LTC and I am a TX resident. But if you are, say, a NM resident with a TX LTC - you're screwed, it doesn't count. (There are other states with laws like this but you get my point.)

As I stated elsewhere, in a perfect world, we don't have this discussion, because we could carry anywhere. But incrementally the right to self-defense was chipped away, and we need to use incrementalism in the other direction - you see this happening already. I just threw this out there as one pathway, one that cuts out the federal government.

And indeed, you have those strongholds like NYC who will still do their own thing. What concerns me is that even IF somehow NYC was forced to abandon its draconian anti-gun regime, police would still harass and intimidate people who carry, because of city government orders or even the police themselves (or both).

When I was frantic to read amusing internet content, and frantically searching out blogs that might be amusing, I went over to hotair and read one of their posts.

I was informed by the blog administrator that they were keeping track of how many hotair posts I read each month and if I wanted to read their stuff I would have to pay them money or turn off adblock.

So that got me thinking. IF I wipe Windows 10 and install one of the open source linux variants, I can save $250 annually in subscription fees to Microsoft. Then I could make a one-time payment to the open source vendor in the amount that would otherwise go to Microsoft, and pocket the following years subscriptions money.

So then I thought about AceHQ. If I were saving that much in annual service fees to use Microsoft software, I could kick in something to ace. That seems fair.

Of course, if I got off the 'net completely, I could save the $1200 annual cost of DSL internet service AND the two fifty annual subscription fees.

In just a couple of very long and boring years, I would have enough to get the brakes fixed the car.

I hate making decisions like this.

So I think I'm going to start drinking. How much does it cost to stay modestly intoxicated all day?

Texas Roadhouse is my favorite "chain" reataurant. Great quality, lower prices than the hoity-toity steakhouses. And it's not just the food. the service is wonderful, start to finish, every time.

The only complaint I have is the incessant country music playing on the speakers. And it's not the good country. It's the pop crap.

I think the stripper music is one that you'd only notice if it was really bad and out of place. Without any music, you might notice something wasn't right, but couldn't put your finger on it.

I've never had a truly BAD steak at an Outback. And a great many very, very good ones.

Ideal "best value", which can never happen.

Texas Roadhouse cut, quality and cooking skill. With Outback's seasoning. That would be addicting.

I've enjoyed most all of the Premium Steakhouses. They're all, universally great, too.

All that said?

The 1 in. thick sirloin I work up in the skillet, on the stovetop, is about as good as it gets, in terms of flavor, "done right" and ...FLAVOR.

No, I can't compete with an 1,800 degree broiler on a two inch thick cut of prime. That's a different universe of culinary art.

But there is no way any of the Premium Steak Houses can out do my 1 in. home cooked Sirloin.

And I don't charge extra for each and every "side".

The 14th Amendment's "Incorporation Doctrine" supposedly extends the BOR to all levels of government. Heller was *supposed* to set incorporation for the 2A, but lower courts have shit all over it and the USSC just takes it. I don't know what they're waiting for. My guess is it's the 4 liberals who want as many restrictive laws as possible and Roberts who doesn't want to deal with the highly charged issue again at all.

I like the reciprocity law, except for the part where it says you can go out of state and get *their* permit and go back to yours with it and they have to accept it. That's in there solely to circumvent the (admittedly overly restrictive) DC carry laws.

452 @439 My guess is it's the 4 liberals who want as many restrictive laws as possible and Roberts who doesn't want to deal with the highly charged issue again at all.

At least one of those four - I think it's RBG, but it might be Kagan - has flat out said that she'd overturn Heller if given the opportunity.

453 Best home steak bargain I like is the Costco packer tenderloins. Cut it up yourself how you like it. My favorite is a fist-sized baseball cut, in the hottest I can get my grill. A few minutes on each side, then finish in a 300 degree oven, rareish on the inside. Only seasoning is a bit of Tony's chachere seasoning.

530 So, Tucker had a guy on tonight to represent a group of unrecognized Indians (feathers) who have formed a tribe to sue Brown University.

Well, that's not why he had him on. Tucker had the guy on to mock Lizzy Warren and talk about hey, if she were a real injun at Harvard wouldn't you New England injuns have run across her at some point?

And the guy did his part and did the mocking.

But the thing is, if you break down humans into races the races have characteristics. I'm totally down with the idea that there are no races. We can all interbreed, we're all one species. We're all the result of some mixing back in the past depending on who lost which war and where the Vikings landed.

I'm totally not advocating racial theory.

But if we're going with racial categorization, this guy was black.

Just black. He was as fake an Indian as Elizabeth Warren and Tucker had him on to mock her for being a fake Indian.

I found the whole thing to be post-modern.

Posted by: Bandersnatch at November 29, 2017 01:03 AM (gIRsn)

531 So, you go to a store, a bakery and buy a German chocolate cake and you are assured by the person at the counter that there is loads of coconut inside and outside the cake.

You get home and cut into it to find out that there was only a little smeared on the top.

Within your rights to go back to the bakery tomorrow an shove her face in the cake and ask for your money back or is it an either or?

Would forcing her to eat the cake be the same as shoving her face in the cake?

Where is the scale is all of this relative to the nipplectomy, not that is under consideration.

You know this could have been another swat girl scene from sicario.

537 ...

Noticeable percentage of marriages and "breeding" between Blacks & American Indians, especially post-civil war.

That though, mostly in the South and West. Still, enough in the North so as to be not insignificant.

So yeah, Tucker's "Indian", certainly appeared to be "Black".

But DO withhold judgment until DNA tests are run.

And if in Houston, take a tour of the Buffalo Soldier Museum, here. You'll see many a photo that looks JUST like Tucker's guest, tonight.

i got what they called "Steak Tenders", cooked, as i said, "as rare as the cook thinks is appropriate. he can over cook them, but he can't possibly under cook them."

they listened, and they were rare, just thinking about medium rare. and i cut them with my fork, no knife needed.

572 Okay, a bit of JeffChem trivia.

'Bout a year ago, he was on a road trip which brought him through the Houston area.

Thinking "mo meet", and being cordial, etc. I invited him to go shooting at a local indoor range. He agreed via email, we set the appointment, and he arrived at the appointed place & time.

After some suitable bit of "classroom" instruction & subsequent dry fire familiarization, it was time to "go hot" on the range, and load the ammo for real.

First gun out of the gate, was a heavy barrel Browning Buckmark .22 LR.

First shot, he screamed like a girl, damn near dropped the gun out of pure fright.

Literally. Screamed. Like. A. Girl.

And VERY pronounced flinch. Severely such that I had to reach up and catch the Browning which was then barely in his grasp.

The mild .38 wadcutters from the N frame Smith? Too much for him.

Same for the Glock 17 with mild FMJ range loads.

I didn't even bother breaking out the 1911 in .45 ACP.

And after about 30 more rounds of .22 LR, he'd had enough. He'd burned through whatever reserves of testosterone he'd arrived with, and had to back away from the firing line.

Accuracy? At seven yards, the burglar would've been hit. Somewhere. Somewhere above the knees and below the neck.

Maybe.

I then gained some insight as to the futility of JeffChem cooking lessons, too.

He at least had the decency to have paid the range fees in full.

And frankly, he was a cordial, friendly, easy going guy to meet, 1 on 1.

But he should never again try to master the art of marksmanship.

Nor, cookery.

And you honored your oath.

I was under no such proscription.

Given that it's been a year or more since the flounce, I thought it no major breach to have told the tale.

And so, I did.

Every word if it, accurate, and the gospel truth, too. I didn't exaggerate so much as a punctuation mark in the telling.

If anything, I remained restrained and understated in my recounting of the events as stated.

As much as I'm a proponent of the Second Amendment, there are a few whom, would be best advised to NOT exercise their rights therefrom.

JeffChem is one such bright and shining example of that scant minority.

That Moron can flat out SHOOT, dammit!

If you got coached by him, you got taught RIGHT.

I'd be HONRED to share a firing line with him, any gun, any distance, any time. He'd challenge my every skill. Win, lose or draw, he'd make me have to shoot to the top of my game, just to keep up.

And that is a FUN kind of shooting to do.

A Buckmark vs. Buckmark 50 rd. match with him, would be EPIC.

The Tueller-Drill distance for an angry lapdog is about the same as and edged-weapon assailant. You ignore the little buggers at your direst peril.

Dropped in for a quip or two yes-tiddy, and almost but not quite wrote up the sort of "apology" you see here often, Why I Was Not Here, and by the way, What Did I Miss? Imagine my shock and dismay today, when I found there wasn't that much to miss. Welcome to the future of Blog Wars?

I have been, ahem, Working. What an odd feeling to say that, since "one" retired 14 years ago. Buddy of the family, a legendary body and fender man you'd want to owe you one, needed a driveway built, and, that's my particular engineering niche. We've been given a few lovely days which by the climate book we just do not deserve, so I hustled up.

Several interviews with several medical authorities, but mostly gossip here, led me to stop taking Aleve, since I have part of one kidney, functioning I guess OK. So, aspirin after the fact is my new approach. Ass status? Draggin. It's funny, when you come in from the job you can always remember to pour a shot of bourbon. Sometimes it takes close to an hour to remember to take two aspirin. Aspirin, safe and effective, but bourbon sure has better marketing.

I just woke out of a dream where two tall men in dark tacta-cool outfits tried to get me into a SUV. They looked Islamic.

However, my trusty firearm prevented that, and I took their SUV and their message bags. But not their camo Crocks.

But before that [b[happy ending of the dream, I was seeing a small band of plucky patriots defending a border that shrank, with no help from a complicit Federal Government.

But in my dream, I knew I needed training, as former Naval Surface Warriors. gentlemen by Act of Congress, are the worst fire-arms shots in the entire military.

Is the Appleseed project too physically demanding? i.e., for young men?

623 pro tip: take a foam pad, shooters mat, or something else to lie on to Appleseed. you'll be shooting from the prone, and that gets old in a hurry.

additional pro tip: if you take Her Majesty's yoga mat, yer gonna get in trouble, so just don't do it. (buy yer own)

630 Swimmingly. We're expanding. We also have a new CEO, a gentleman from Texas who was a big-shot with TI once upon a time, so this one knows a thing or two about high volume manufacturing. We've also split off our RF components into a new business called Wolfspeed, so now we do nothing but lighting.

(To be honest, we're just two companies in name only at this point as the manufacturing facilities are still common between the two.)

656 GGE, peep sights, really? As in adjustable aperture, so-called "Olympic" sights? Bless your heart, you're going against the grain. The American Manhood Manual requires that a new .22 be immediately burdened with a telescopic sight of Ludicrous Power, if possible bigger than the gun, and with enough lens to convince you that you've contracted a palsy.

Compared to V sights, open sights, I'd take a modest aperture sight on a smallbore over any lens up to 4X, even for "field work." For targets only, roughly 10 years experience with irons is about right before you move to the dark side and start shading. You could make the same argument for mid-range high power, too, but you'll be arm-wrestling with Rambo.

662 speaking of beer cannons, if you get one of these bad boys, load it with IMI mfg blanks, wipe the can down with a very light coat of kitchen spray, you can send a full 12 oz can of the beverage of your choice 100 meters or more, depending on angle of fire.

ask me how i know.

that and the "rifleman's quarter mile"...

my one bitch with the event i attended, besides the fact that i felt like shit and my personal coach couldn't focus on one thing at a time, is that we shot at the stupid "simulated range" targets you shoot at from 25 meters, that are supposed to be just like shooting the real ranges, except that they aren't.

Mrs Hades never had kids and didn't really get to spend a lot of time with her brother's other kids due to their mother, so she's got big plans to spoil the shit out of this one. I think it would be a dandy idea to have a .22 in her little paws by the time she's 10 at least, an idea which her father is completely in agreement with and her mother is staunchly opposed. 705 So it looks like Mad Mike Hughes has rescheduled his suicide attempt steam powered rocket launch for Monday after the BLM said he couldn't do it on public lands without a permit. I for one believe that NOTHING should stand in the way of this man fulfilling his destiny (and possibly winning his Darwin Award; nothing is said of children so he should qualify).

707 When we first started cutting the wings off B-52's, there were a couple of Smarter-type-Image retailers that offered the seats as office chairs. They were significantly more expensive than $750, even way back then. So this sounds like a pretty good deal.

Of course, "the" "real" B-52 souvenir accessory would be the tail-gunner station. Prove you've been there, and all that. They're a little older, though.
