"Horrible and Cowardly" ISIS Attack on Sufi Mosque in Egypt Kills 235

The attack was made with guns and bombs.

Children in a creche were killed.

This is probably because ISIS was upset about Trump overfeeding koi.

Posted by: Burnt Toast at November 24, 2017 05:09 PM (IWbvi)

69 Alawite. Not considered a sect but associated mostly with Shia.

It's a little more complicated than that, though. Most Shia groups consider Alawites to be "ghulat", which in this context means, more or less, a religious group that has Islamic elements but isn't considered (by Shia) to be actually Muslim.

Under the Assads (the current one and his father), there's been a tendency in Syria for the Alawites to engage in a sort of "taqiyya" in which the Alawites act like Muslims in public and the Muslims (this is referring to the period before the civil war and ISIS, obviously) more or less leave them alone.

His is a minority sect in Syria. If the ISIS / Al Qaeda types win in Syria, they will be put up against the wall along with any other Non Sunni peoples.

Yep. islam is the formalization of desert arab culture ... and anyone can rent an arab to do pretty much anything to anyone. arabs are always available for hire to do anything or turn on anyone. The problem with arabs is that they have absolutely no concept of goodwill or obligation and will eventually turn around and stab you in the back, sometimes just because "it's that time", no matter how much you are paying or no matter how much you think you are "friends" or no matter how much you have helped them with something. That's just how arabs are. In this way the French are very much the arabs of Europe.

The fact that Muslims kill fellow Muslims just goes to show that they aren't prejudiced specifically against Christians and Jews. So knock it off with your bigoted, xenophobic whining about immigration.

Because they are not so prejudiced, you have nothing to fear about being the target of a hate crime. Therefore, it's ok to have as many of them emigrate here as possible.

To reiterate, whatever crimes they commit against you will not be hate crimes, since they also commit such crimes against their fellow Muslims.

140 You know, for the 8 years of my presidency, I funnelled billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to my fellow muslims . . . er, I mean to lovely, misunderstood muslims in various under-privileged countries around the globe. I even sent planeloads of gold and cash of various currencies to those wonderful imams who rule Iran with such benevolence. And I directed federal agencies in the U.S. to make boosting muslim self-esteem (not to mention muslim federal employment) a top priority. Why, I personally provided federal government jobs for all of the top lieutenants of the Muslim Brotherhood.

I did this to prove my thesis that terrorism (and I will not call it "Islamic terrorism," for there is no such thing, and anyway, Crusades!) can only be stopped by throwing more American money at it and by importing more muslims to the U.S. and giving them jobs and extensive welfare and other benefits here.

Now I know that many of you racist clingers and haters and islamophobes who post here are going to point out that nothing that I did actually stopped or even slowed terrorism, and some of you are going to point out that terrorist activities actually increased under my presidency, but I have an answer for that: The only reason that my solution did not work is because we did not spend enough money!

Let me be clear: Next time, it'll work! But we have to spend more money!

176 Here we see selective breeding in action. Moderate Muslims are being culled so that the only ones remaining are callous, violent sociopaths. And this has been going on for over a thousand years.

As I mentioned a few threads ago, William Lane Craig relies on Al-Ghazali, an 11th century Sufi philosopher, for his cosmological argument. Muslim culture since then seems to have devolved ever closer to barbarism. It showed feeble signs of secularization last century, but again that got smothered.

I don't like believing that a cultural group is hopeless, but because of their sacred texts, they keep reverting back to the ISIS end of the spectrum.

I was just talking about that with No. 1 Son yesterday, about the fact that no one seems to refer to it or talk about it.

Among a lot of things I liked about it was how it defied my expectations of the drone pilots. They're always portrayed as armchair warriors playing a nintendo game half a world away and pushing buttons as if the life and death at the other end weren't real.

The drone pilots in that movie were tormented all the way through and absolutely shattered at the end. As if they were really making life and death choices.

Posted by: Old Blue
------------

I don't have a way of direct measure of the difference in illumination, but when the city installed LED streetlamps, the difference seemed about 2x. I'm betting that there is a square law involved, so actual 'brightness' may be even greater. At any rate, the reflected light is *much* higher than it was.

I haven't checked, but it is rumored that the lamps exceed what is allowed to private resident lighting. That statute was put in place to 'reduce light pollution', but the city itself is exempt.

Additionally, regarding color temperature/spectrum, the LEDs clearly are quite different than the mercury vapor lamps. The LED's, for instance, do not attract moths, and, whereas there was noticeable additional growth by the plants under the mercury vapor lamps, things planted since then show no particular additional growth. All of that is to say that the spectrum of light from LEDs simply isn't very natural.
