Poseidon sends the sea monster Cetus to ravage Aethiopia as divine punishment. Andromeda is stripped and chained naked to a rock as a sacrifice to sate the monster, but is saved from death by Perseus, whom she later marries and has 7 sons and two daughters by.

She is touted as the ancestor of the Persians as well as the ruling families of Mycenae and also Hercules.

Fun popcorn movie. I enjoyed it.

The critics have been way too harsh on this movie.

Nice rebooted personality for a certain someone who they've had wrong for a while.

Yeah, CGI Steppanwolf (who the hell thought up that name? I kept waiting for "Magic Carpet Ride" every time they said his name)

had that weight/gravity/interia/momentum issue sometimes when fighting, that was discussed on Sat Night's movie thread.

But, was okay when not fighting.

Anywho, fun movie to see on big screen.

Check it out.

138 For some reason I have seen few of Dore's paintings. I have several books illustrated with his etchings, which are wonderful.

This is such an effective painting (and not just because of the hot chick). Dore captures the helpless terror of a girl facing a horrible death with no expectation of rescue. The small piece of dark, turbulent sky and ocean makes a frame of Andromeda and the rock she's chained to, keeping the viewer's focus on her. Even the Kraken is secondary to her plight. And the smooth skin and subtle skin tones make an effective contrast with the other elements of the painting.

Thanks, CBD for this. Now I have to check out more of Dore's paintings. The man was apparently a genius at expressing a scene. Look up his Rime of the Ancient Mariner etching as an example.

215 weekend show for Levin ... good. He has been pretty good on CRTV, but that venue needs to expand and find some more talent.

Hopefully this helps Levin expand CRTV, instead of Fox buying off the competition. "We" need competing venues with fewer ties to the billionaire news conglomerates. CRTV has Malkin and Crowder ... but they are rather sporadic.

216 Not like going down the pond chasin' bluegills and tommycods.

That line has always bothered me. A bluegill is a freshwater fish, a tom cod is a juvenile saltwater fish.

Martha's Vineyard, where Jaws was filmed, has salt ponds (including Chappaquiddick) which are open to the sea and tidal, so it's not necessarily wrong to say you'd catch a tommycod in a pond, though it is quite unlikely as there really aren't any cod south of the Cape and they're not usually in shallow water or near shore, but it could happen.

It just wouldn't happen in a pond where you find bluegill, which live in freshwater ponds with bass and crappies and other warmwater trash fish.

291 Well, I officially don't know what the f*ck to do re Thanksgiving.

I'm in the midst of preparing sides, picked up the fresh turkey and smoked ham yesterday, have the table decorated, and my husband just called.

He doesn't know whether he should go on up to Atlanta or not. Two of his siblings are on the way to the hospital to see how the aunt is doing, and the last word was she might not have pneumonia, but a bladder infection. No straight answers. Husband spoke with his aunt, and the doctor hasn't been by this morning.

I am exhausted from shopping all day yesterday with the broken foot and being constantly on my feet, and asked him if we should cancel Thanksgiving here. He doesn't know.

So now I'm sitting here whining to ya'll because I literally Do Not Know What To Do.

I asked him to wait to go up there or make any decision until he talks to his brother and sister and see what the hell is going on. He agreed.

3. Woman pulling back on chains but not pressing forward with feet
4. Neither foot could support the weight of the woman and the angle of the chains imply that she is not hanging from it. The chain would be perpendicular to the fall line.
5. Her shoulders and knees appear to be in the same plane but her breasts seem to be pointing our to sea.

Love the painting though.

Hmmm...I didn't notice anything else in the painting but the breasts pointing out to sea. Kind-of reminded me of my Mystic Mountain works. Might have to go back and look again.

At least it's not my MIL. Good grief, if she gets nauseated (which is often) it's an overnight trip to the ER, with my husband racing like a mad man up I-16 and I-75 to tend to her. I literally fear him having an accident.

He spends more time taking care of his mother and aunt than three of his siblings WHO LIVE RIGHT THERE. Of course, I went up several years ago to care for his father after he had valve replacement surgery, because the Life Coach was so stressed after spending One Entire Week at his bedside in the hospital, post surgery, that she needed a three week trip to the beach to recover.

So I went up and cooked and looked after them both. Until my FiL disappeared (ya'll may remember my rant) to DRIVE to the store and buy beer. At that point I lost it.

Posted by: flounder, rebel, vulgarian, deplorable, winner at November 21, 2017 10:47 AM (tbOMB)

Good point. Gravy depends a lot on de-glazing the roasting pan, so it's difficult to make in advance. However, you can make extra turkey stock in advance, and use that to de-glaze your pan (along with a little white wine and sage). About a week ahead of time the grocery stores around here start selling turkey wings for just this purpose. Two wings in a slow cooker for the day will give you all the stock you need for this purpose. I add carrots, celery, salt and pepper as seasoning, but no onions (which would be usual) because I then separate out the meat and carrot chunks and give them to the dogs as treats.

424 258 Men have become optional in the lives of children and demeaned when they stick around. Is it any wonder that our society is hurting; men and women and especially children. And to really kick it in the balls, if a person even acknowledges this they are the enemy. Fuck me running it shouldn't be this hard. I just want to shake people to wake them the fuck up that yes men do matter. That fathers and complete families are better than broken families.

The other side of the coin is that MEN need to man up and put on the bigboy pants and stay to raise and provide for their children.
Posted by: USNtakim prfoundly deplorable! at November 21, 2017 10:43 AM (0OmEj)

I agree with everything you say. Your last statement is virtue signaling propagating the feminist lie that men are not me and men don't want to provide for their families. Look at the Great Socoety what it did to the black families when the state took over the role of the father provider. Thus kicking him out of the home. Now it's an epidemic. I have dozens of examples of why the father has been removed from the family while the single mother and mothers in general are treated as goddesses.

The family courts act a a way for Marxism to transfer resources from men to women via the barrel of a gun. Most father's don't get to see and raise their children while the boyfriends do, but they are expected to act as a ATM

Man up is shaming language literally invented by feminists in the late 1990's. It's used to define a man and father in feminists terms.

The people that need to "man up" are the state legislatures, lawyers, the family courts, and DC legislature, and our president by taking their balls out of the feminists handbags and protect men and boys.

But it won't happen because gynocentricism and both parties are the party of misandry.
