Obama thought people had a "right" to housing, food, health care etc. because he figures the government owns them, like a military. Government can order them around, tell them what to think, since they own them and take care of them (like pets).
But then when it comes to our military, he doesn't take care of them ... but gives foreigners the higher place, health care, jobs, etc. The left and the elite just want to get rid of traditional America via coup and replacement policy ... and they'll tell any lie to accomplish that. WASHINGTON: Would the war against preying on women be blazing so fiercely had Hillary Clinton been elected? I've heard that the Hindus came up with "zero" and the numerals are Arabic. I wasn't there at the time. Posted by: navybrat at November 18, 2017 11:01 PM (w7KSn) There's a free book on the Project Gutenburg on the history of mathematics (it's either by Florian Capri or W. W. Rouse Ball, in think the latter) that describes the notation used by the Greeks and the Romans, from which it becomes obvious why they went in for geometry rather than algebra or arithmetic. Well worth reading (both of them). Greek and Roman mathematical notation was horrendous, and totally non-intuitive. That illustrates the importance of something as trivial as notation in the celerity of advancements. (Same thing with Newton's notation vs. Leibniz's in calculus; Newton's notation is only useful - or used now - in connection with kinematics. Everything else involves Leibniz's notation.) Posted by: gNewt at November 18, 2017 11:15 PM (BoJzR) We're talking about the ability to reason abstractly, which I think is the ultimate measure of intelligence. Think time: 2 pm today is like 2 pm tomorrow, is like 2 pm three weeks from now. They're different 2 pm's, but not unrelated from each other. There's a circularity there, a cyclic nature, what mathematicians would identify with modular arithmetic. The abstract reasoning comes in that circularity in time is LIKE circularity in movement; the same process happening over and over results in an advance (in time or in space). From that recognition to the wheel is straightforward. The implementation is trivial; it's the underlying insight that's profound. Well, the problem with Sovereign Citizen is "force majeure," which I have yet to hear a proper solution to.
Even if you are claiming the most extreme stance, that the individual himself is the only force answerable in a legal manner, all that is doing is saying that that the government is illegitimate, and its use of force is equally illegitimate. However, that does nothing for your actual position, besides give you a philosophical teddy bear to hug while you are being forcibly detained, since governments don't really care if force is illegitimate, as long as it is theirs. During the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression to some of the Horde) a good rifleman could get off three rounds a minute, a feat not able to reproduced today except by very experienced black powder muzzle loaders today. Granted that a great many of the dead were made that way by artillery, there were still about 650,000 killed in the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression to some of the Horde). A good many of them were shot. My Dad, may he rest in peace, said that the only reason the South lost the War was because the South ran out of grits. There is some truth to that. Back in the way back, firing a muzzle loader with a minnie ball would emit a lot of smoke. So much smoke that after about ten or fifteen minutes of continuous battle the smoke was so thick it made it hard to aim. Modern muzzle loaders use smokeless powder so less of a plume of smoke. Still pretty fricking loud though.

From that recognition to the wheel is
straightforward. The implementation is trivial; it's the underlying insight that's profound. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at November 18, 2017 11:24 PM (YqDXo) I think it had to do with bored kids, travois, and spindle whorls. The Indo-Europeans from what we can pull from the language had two areas of development, the Southern part that developed into Hittite and related language that didn't use a term for cart, but probably had one for either a plow or a type of travois, and the Northern that had the word for cart or chariot. The theory is that the Southern is an early breakaway population that predated the development of the wheel. and that moved down into Anatolia early and colonized there. They seemed to have a word that was cognate with plow, or drag, which is perfectly understandable for a population that had horses. It would mean the wheel was a separate and later development from the travois. The main group stayed in the traditional areas until they developed the wheel and the chariot. Now the chariot is an unusual type of vehicle. It is light, it is flexible, and unlike the ox-cart, the weight is carried between the wheels and the horse, where the rider got to flex and bounce and balance while speeding across the steppes. Which is pretty much what a travois does, but probably with less speed and agility, since it is dragging sticks around. Where does the wheel come from for the chariot then? I have a theory that most ideas come from adaptation of other ideas, especially when talking about techniques. The steppe-dwellers had horses, they had bits, and they really needed rope. One thing you desperately need when you have fractious horses is rope. They also had textiles, and spun yarn. You can do that by hand, I have been playing with twisting corn shut ropes for example, but a spindle whorl works much better and is pretty instinctual to make and use once you figure that out. The sort of thing bored kids watching the animals graze would do for example. The earliest ones I would bet were crossed sticks, since one of the issues with twisting yarn or twine by hand is how to keep it from knotting up or dragging it the dirt and catching on stuff and unwinding. If you have some crossed sticks you can wrap it on that, and if you are careful you can make it so you can just slip the sticks out and you have a ball of yarn ready to twist with another ball. (There is a Turkish style drop spindle just like this for example) of course the next step is to just spin the sticks to twist the yarn. To get a better spin you start using a block of wood or put a rim on the sticks, since round objects spin better than rough ones. So anyways, kids being kids with animals, at times try to ride the horses, (we used to try to ride sheep when we were really young) but adults are too heavy, the original horses were too lightly built. So to use them to haul stuff they developed the travois which I referred to above about the Hittite language. And kids being kids probably rode the travois also, because when you are bored out of your head watching goats and horses, anything sounds like excitement. And you would ride a travois standing between the horse and where the sticks hit the ground. Now what happens if you have been watching your cousin roll a spindle whorl around in the dirt for a week instead of spinning yard? I bet attaching it to the travois for a smoother, faster ride would be one. Eventually. Posted by: I have never been so disgusted in you people at November 18, 2017 11:56 PM (c5fch) Well ... Greek civilization predated Christianity. And the Romans were big before Christianity, too (as we all know because the Romans played such a huge role in the very beginning of Christianity) ... and the Greek and Roman civilizations were the basis of all of Europe, so I don't think your argument is really sound. I mean, at that same time the Romans were fighting off the barbarians from the north (and east) too - the barbarians who eventually took over Europe and adopted Roman (and Greek) ways and advancements. Yes, islam killed some North African societies but they weren't going all that gangbusters, to begin with. And sub-saharan there has really not been much of anything, save the aforementioned Timbuktu, which was on the south border of the Sahara and did its business across North Africa. Posted by: Aetius451AD at November 19, 2017 12:19 AM (ycWCI)/i] Frankly, I think it's a matter of intelligence. The Japanese are frighteningly good at recognizing what's of merit, and adopting it. We didn't give it to them; they saw it and seized it, even if we tried to impede them doing that. They adopted the ethos, and extended it vigorously, at one point scaring the shit out of us. The problem with Africa is exactly the opposite. We're trying to teach them, but it's a tough slog. It's like burning a wet mule with $100 bills. I just bought a number of items that were manufactured in China. Why China, and not Africa? China was poor, and had a shitload of idle labor, just like Africa. Yet China is prospering, yet Africa is poor. Why? Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at November 19, 2017 12:28 AM (YqDXo) 420
408 This plague flare up in Madagascar, is it pneumonic? Or standard Bubonic?
From what little I've read, pneumonic. Posted by: Blanco Basura at November 19, 2017 12:26 AM (IcT7t) Crap. Well, that's not good. High transmission rate and very high (close to 95% mortality without treatment.) Can be spread person to person, not just by animals. IIRC from my epidemics course, my professor suggested that pneumonic outbreaks during the middle ages usually burned itself out before spreading to other communities. Posted by: Aetius451AD at November 19, 2017 12:29 AM (ycWCI) 421
Two-thirds of the cases are pneumonic. From the wiki:
Plague is endemic on the central high plateau of Madagascar, usually occurring every year as a seasonal upsurge during the rainy season between September and April.[7] This pattern has occurred since about 1990 with the annual number of cases typically between 800 to 1500. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 19, 2017 12:55 AM (oPNmq) Yes, but pneumonic is different. (This is from classes around 20 years ago, so someone may correct me.) Pneumonic roots in the lungs (hence Pneumo-.) The bacteria multiplies out of control (just like bubonic) and, being in the lungs, can be spread airborne through coughing or even normal speech. If I remember, it's growth is far faster, something like 2-3 days as compared to bubonic which takes around a week. Posted by: Aetius451AD at November 19, 2017 12:58 AM (ycWCI) 522

At night I was waking up gasping for air every 15 minutes because the swelling. It was nasty. Domestication is a tricky subject. Even modern bison ranches have been unable to produce a pliable critter. Europeans have tried for two centuries to domesticate African wildlife without success (c.f. zebra, eland, and ibex). It appears that there must be some instinctual behavior pattern that allows for particular species to submit to domestication - human desires and efforts jusgt are not enough. Well, hogmartin, thankfully there were at least two of us.
How are you able to do those Swedish letters? Impressive. Best credits in a film, after Bambi Meets Godzilla. Posted by: Shopgirl: #every man a wildcat at November 19, 2017 03:01 AM (x3yKT) 610
Infidel, I just read your post. So sorry about your dad. My mother is not there yet, but the forgetfulness and the vagueness have caused some real problems; I just returned from dealing with one. Because I am the caretaker child.
Blahblah, not your problem; just throwing down with some empathy. Posted by: Shopgirl: #every man a wildcat at November 19, 2017 03:09 AM (x3yKT) 611

How are you able to do those Swedish letters?
Posted by: Shopgirl: #every man a wildcat at November 19, 2017 03:01 AM (x3yKT) Two ways, and they're both really easy. Start with and end with ; and stick the value in between with no spaces. That one happens to have a convenient mnemonic (lots of 'special' characters do), in this case it's oslash. So ampersand oslash semicolon, no spaces: ø. Others include ntilde ñ and ccedil ç. If the character you want doesn't have a mnemonic, look around for a UTF-8 character chart and use the same ampersand-value-semicolon notation with an octothorpe ('pound sign') and the hexidecimal code for the character where the mnemonic would go. See if this works... #xf8; should produce ø. There's always the chance that it won't get read properly or it'll be mistyped and the post ends up looking dumb. There are also lots of conversion sites that let you type the characters and get the output in some usable format. The codes are called 'HTML entities', so searching around for that should turn something up. Posted by: hogmartin at November 19, 2017 03:40 AM (y87Qq) 614
...and the ampersands got stripped from the previous post. See? Sometimes it looks dumb.
Posted by: hogmartin at November 19, 2017 03:42 AM (y87Qq) 615
Oh, crap! Are my ampersands getting stripped & looking dumb? I'm plenty dumb enough on my own, thank you very much. Using Opera, truth be told.

Or find a nice quiet Bikini Atoll post from maybe eight hours ago and try things out. Nobody knows what the threshold is for autobans on stale posts, but that's usually safe.
Once you get it sorted out, just remember only to use it for good and occasional mild evil. If it's distracting you or other people, ditch it. If it's helpful to demonstrate something, or if seeing "ca va" instead of "ça va" drives you bonkers, go ahead and use it. Posted by: hogmartin at November 19, 2017 04:22 AM (y87Qq) 632
