24 I have to admit that I'm a little surprised the speed with which Al Gropeken has been tossed under the bus by his fellow travelers (except for the MSM bitter clingers). I mean, they must support the narrative at literally any cost now, and no doubt the leftist progtard GOV of MN will appoint someone at least as commie-leaning as Stuart Smalley, but still...

Perhaps because they're intimately familiar with just how big a schmuck this guy is they are only too happy to be rid of him. That's pretty much my operating theory at this point.

78 Gammie: For you

David Ramati, one of the two Israeli Jews injured in Friday mornings terror attack in Gush Etzion, escaped serious harm when he was just barely able to jump out of the way of a terrorists incoming car.

A 70-year-old American-born immigrant to Israel, Ramati, originally Tim Bratvold, was born to a non Jewish family in Chicago and raised in Wisconsin.

After dropping out of college in 1965, Ramati joined the Marine Corps, and was deployed to Vietnam, where he served two combat tours of duty. It was during his 19-month service in Vietnam that the Wisconsin farmer began to examine his own religious beliefs. Ramati was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, and upon his return to the US, Ramati completed his studies at the University of Wisconsin, where he met his future wife.

After the Six Day War of 1967 and the Yom Kippur War of 1973, Ramati and his wife became inspired to convert to Judaism and immigrate to Israel, leaving behind their farm near Green Bay for the Jewish state, then still reeling from the shock of the surprise attack by Syria and Egypt.

After converting and becoming Orthodox Jews, Ramati, his wife, and their two small children moved to Israel in 1975, and joined a Kibbutz. Born as Tim Bratvold, Ramati adopted a Hebrew name and joined the Israeli army.

The Church used to not be ok with it, but it wasn't doctrinal. The idea was that the resurrected body at the parousia needed to not have been destroyed. The Church still doesn't want people to "spread their ashes" but keep them together for the resurrection and glorification.

Posted by: DocJ at November 17, 2017 09:35 AM (NYS7S)

TFG had that theory of stray voltage, which his administration liked to use. Basically there is a lot of undercurrent where everyone knows something is wrong, and feel it is unjust, so the "thought leaders" designate a victim to ground out all that potential, or direct it in a way that is beneficial to whatever the current goal is.

It is mob psychology. Basically in the face of a lot of disaffection, you designate and burn witches instead of the people getting up on their own and lynching the local lord, the council of elders or the heads of the guilds for whatever institutional oppression going on.

There is a lot of sexual assault by "the betters" happening, and even if it is not splashed around publicly, everyone knows it is going on--if not the extent. The problem is that this came out as a smear first on Trump, in the idea that like Herman Cain there might be something hidden that he would want to hide.

(But apparently billionaires with fashion model wives may be fairly chaste next to swamp creatures)

And that kicked out the idea that there was some support for little people who were raped and assaulted by "the betters" with impunity.

I wonder if the Swamp is feeling so pressed they are trying to (to horribly blend a metaphor) distract the wolves by throwing their own off the troika as a sacrifice.

This could get big. I'm sure Franken never saw this coming. The next designated victim probably will.

Interesting side-note about Cezanne: he isn't known to have performed careful mathematical calculations when working out compositions yet the compositions of his paintings employ Golden Section divisions that are exact to the 2nd decimal point. He did it intuitively, by eye. I find that amazing.

185 My two cents. The God who formed me knows how to put me back together, whether my carcass has been thru fire, water, earth or any combination thereof. I can't imagine that He would be particularly puzzled as to how He would resurrect me, in whatever form.

That's exactly my take on it. Besides, I've read some thought pieces on it. There are a significant amount of atoms in your body that used to belong to somebody else.

Whose would they be at the Resurrection? (Kind of like the wife challenge of the Sadducees)

That's one thing that the "translation" doctrine has going for it. Jesus, when he came back to Earth had a "heavenly body". Was able to "hack the matrix" and walk through walls. Eat only if he wanted to eat.

But further thought, I think they center on the bones, because everybody knows that the flesh ends up in worm bellies.

Hey blaster here.

I don't have a lot of cycles for the internets right now.

Appears she had a series of acute strokes. She was intubated and sedated for 2 and a half days but she is extubated and talking without impairment.

Still some days ahead in the hospital. But I am reminded that the world is full of many excellent people who really care about other people.

As an only child seeing my mother surrounded with such support and love eases my mind.

And the prayers all helped. ace even almost prayed I am sure that put her over the top!

I don't find it that amazing. Because the theory of the Golden Section is that it's a harmony that we perceived intuitively. It's what makes one composition "look better" than another.

The mathematical theory of the Golden section--and also canvas proportions--is simply a mathematical analysis of why some paintings appeal to our aesthetic sense more. It's a mathematical explanation--after the fact--of what we favor visually.

265 historical note on the acceptance of cremation in western society - it used to be considered "pagan" and a completely unchristian act, since the Church taught the resurrection of the body as doctrine.

BUT mechanized warfare, which the world became widely aware of during WW1 changed the views of even the most faithful, as it became common for men on the front lines to become completely blasted to pieces during heavy bombardments, with no remains to be found. In light of the horror of the new methods of war, the old beliefs had to fade away.

More than alcohol in Hemingway's case. The two plane crashes and then the bouts of electroshock therapy really wiped out what was special about his brain.

He did know he was losing it. His letters were published a few years ago and you can see him losing it and aware that he was losing it. After reading his letters his suicide made sense to me.

300 "The Church used to not be ok with it, but it wasn't doctrinal. The idea
was that the resurrected body at the parousia needed to not have been
destroyed. The Church still doesn't want people to "spread their ashes"
but keep them together for the resurrection and glorification."

It's also meant to communicate a proper perspective on what the human body is and its relationship to the soul/spirit. The body isn't the entirety of who you are and it's not meant to last forever, but neither is it merely a piece of meat or an object to be discarded or destroyed when it's no longer useful or functioning. The body, even after death, deserves reverence as having been a temple of the Holy Spirit and a vessel through which life (physical and/or spiritual) was communicated and received. It's not that keeping the body together is absolutely necessary for the resurrection -- what about all the people who have been blown apart, burned to cinders, etc. through no fault of their own, are they out of luck? -- but the symbolism of what is done with it is important.

How about a new strain of influenza sweeps through the country, wiping out the older, weaker population and those in living in close proximity to others - as in nursing homes, hospitals and jails.

Turns out the influenza strain was manufactured by a rogue group of scientists at the CDC, following the theory of a charismatic economist who argued that the transfer of wealth from the old to the young would create a thriving economy.

Surprise twist to the book - the economist was right.

It's one of the best developments of all this, is that Hollywood, at least for the moment is a little sheepish about the time it spent on the soapbox.

Which is why I sense the Lord's hand in all this. I know it sounds Obama-esque, but I've recently begun pondering whether the Lord has "raised up" Trump, to simply provoke whatever you want to call those people who consider themselves "liberal" and "progressive" but are overwrought emotional children, and force these failures that are the eventual outcome of the easy path to victory that the cultural elite have taken for themselves.

I know it sounds post-modern to say that successes can breed defeat, but it does make sense that success that takes immoral shortcuts breeds bad practices and habits that will eventually soften the victors up for failure. The libs got too used to media coverage, they got too used to media pressure being on their side. It lessened the effort they put into actually thinking through and making a point. And now, because they've only bred skills in being right by adopting the dogma of the "right side of history", they have no skills in analysis.

Alinsky showed them how to win cheap with schemes--and that worked for a LONG while--and might even work if the Dems regain their equilibrium. But it taught them spinning instead of analysis. And they have chosen self-flattery over actual achievement.

One of my fears in life is that I'll suffer some kind of injury where I can no longer read or think or understand things as I do now and that I'm aware that I used to be able to do so but can't any longer. That is nightmare fuel to me.

The college professor who did the most to teach me how to think and how to reason and the importance of thinking critically about your own positions first of all and primary sources, primary sources, primary sources was a a man who earned his PhD at the University of Edinburgh and who spoke a dozen or so languages and who could read several others. He was utterly brilliant.

He woke up one morning, sat down for breakfast with his wife, picked up the newspaper, looked at her and said "I think I need to go to the hospital. I can't read."

Massive brain tumor. Within ten days he went from being who he was to not recognizing his children's faces and not being able to read and he could barely speak. Thankfully, he died within two weeks of that morning but I struggle mightily with knowing that at the end of life, one of God's most faithful servants had ripped from him the gifts God gave him. To get to the very end and then have cancer steal it all away is just so bitterly cruel.

Fuck cancer. Just. Fuck cancer.

There was a huge amount of talent on that show. British acting has long been very fine -- at least, the best of them, there are a lot of awful ones too. Its always bothered me that Hollywood basically ignores the talent overseas like that.

405 The uranium one witness had his name leaked by the Sessions DoJ ... he is undergoing chemo for cancer (from Fox this morning), under enough stress ... now the Clinton goons can go threaten his family and whatever else they do to give Hillary "special treatment" and wipe away evidence.

Meanwhile we have what? another 3-7 years of Mueller/Rosenstein/McCabe inquistion into only Trump (as subterfuge?).

The rosy view is that of course the DoJ AND special counsel are already wrapping up all the deep state connections to Russia money and it means clintons/lynch/podesta ... the whole gang will soon have their homes raided like Manafort did. (like they never did while clinton destroyed emails)

Sessions seems to give a little shat-eaten grin when questioned about uranium one and probing even Democrat crimes ... but the time delay means more harm is done by the day, and those complicit in uranium one are once again ... investigating themselves. gee, what will they find? ... see Comey.

Sessions stated it would be Rosentstein's choice to recuse ... yet it was Rosenstein that told Sessions to recuse, iirc, then the complicit gang began interrogating Trump people for anything unrelated from the last 10 years. tick tock tick tock ... the mouse ran down the clock ... and ate the cheese while the Sessions cat slept.

I think one of the most fascinating aspects of HQ history was the rapid deterioration of Insomniac, his unawareness of the same, and his continued naiive posting after his demise.

As he continues to post mundane comments from beyond the veil, most Morons are silent. It's confusing. Is it rude to tell a dead person to stop commenting?

Others are frustrated. I mean, we have watched a man grapple with the loss of his faculties and somehow be able to post from the Realm of the Dead, and yet he doesn't offer us any abiding insight on the nature of infinity or the afterlife. Come on, dude!

And then there's the Miss Manners crowd who say it's mean to notice the dead guy posting because he suffered so much in his last days. Well, why? If a guy has suffered the indignity of losing his shit in public and doesn't even know it, how is it rude to notice?

Posted by: Insomniac - Nobody in Particular

Over the last year and change, I've felt like I -have- lost a bit of that.

Maybe it's stress. Or nutrition or health. Probably a combination.

Sometimes I struggle for a word where I wouldn't have before while speaking (no such problem here...) Maybe I have trouble wrapping my head around a thing I had no trouble with before.

After what I dealt with for the last couple of years with dad, this scares the bejeezus out of me. Especially since I'm trying to retrain myself and find a new way forward in life.

The problem is, I'm more afraid of going in and getting checked properly, for fear that, in this ever more politicized shitshow of an age, it will be used against me later.

So I soldier on best I can.

Kinda sucks.

No wonder I'm tired of life.

475 My .02 on cremation. When my mom passed, bro and I had her cremated. I had the ashes for a while trying to figure out what to do with them. When my dad passed, he was a veteran and according to his wishes, the mortuary scattered his ashes at sea.

Mom also wanted to be scattered at sea but I took the ashes myself and did it. Went out on a friend's sailboat (about 10 of us)out of San Diego harbor. Had to go 6 miles offshore to release ashes.

It was a beautiful day, light wind perfect for sailing. We got past the 6 mile mark and said, ok, here. Hubby took my mom onto divers deck and released the ashes.

Then it became surreal. Boat was in a light sail and as hubby poured out the ashes, they left a luminous, glittering trail.

All of us on boat watched, in a kind of awe. It was beautiful and moving - that shimmering effect of the ashes, lingering on the surface like sparkling diamonds, then fading into the depths. I'll never forget it. The sail back to the harbor was very quiet.

Remember the scene in Soylent Green when Edgar G. Robinson goes to the suicide facility and dies peacefully?

Look at the cost of medical care.

Then look at how many individuals in the next X number of years are going to need critical care because of their age.

We're all going to end up like Edgar G., but it won't be voluntary. When something that's not easy to treat befalls us, we'll be sent to a special facility, killed, and any healthy organs will be given to prominent Democrat politicians.

507 Kiss off. Gene Simmons banned for life from Fox.

According to a knowledgeable Fox News source, [Gene] Simmons showed up on the 14th floor [of Fox] to do a book-plugging interview with FoxNews.com's entertainment section, but instead barged in on a staff meeting uninvited.

"Hey chicks, sue me!" he shouted, and then pulled open his red velvet shirt to reveal his chest and belly, according to the source. Then he starting telling Michael Jackson pedophilia jokes, and then bopped two employees on the head with his book, making derisive comments about their comparative intelligence according to the sound their heads made when struck.

"It was pretty severe," the source said.

Mom also wanted to be scattered at sea but I took the ashes myself and did it. Went out on a friend's sailboat (about 10 of us)out of San Diego harbor. Had to go 6 miles offshore to release ashes.

Did similar with mom & dad. Cousin who lives in Florida took dad's ashes 10 years ago and scattered them out from St Pete. Sis took mom's to Vieques and scattered them.

535 Before any of you get giddy about removing or limiting itemized Federal deductions for state and local taxes, think again:

--Don't we WANT more governmental programs handled at the state and local level. Frankly, I would be happy to watch all state taxes spike up, if, in return, certain Federal departments like Health and Human Services and Education were *Abolished*, and their functions returned to the states where they belong. If we discourage state and local taxation, we discourage (New) Federalism.

--Lots of republicans in "red" states pay higher state, local and property taxes too.

--A "tax cut" that causes the tax bills of millions of individuals to jump up, people who played by the rules as they best understood them, for decades, is political suicide.

I guess it depends on why you're dating.

If its just to find somewhere to stick your peen, then who they are and what they think about anything is irrelevant, you only want one part of their body anyway.

If you want to make a life with them, a marriage and a future, then I think its hard enough to make that work out without starting with fundamentally opposed worldviews.

559 I came close to hitting a motorcyclist one day. He did nothing wrong, but his wheel hit some rocks on the road and he skidded, and went down. As he was bouncing I could see him looking at me (I was behind him). Luckily I was far enough behind that I was able to slam on my brakes and didn't get too close to him before stopping. That was over 30 years ago and I can still see it in my mind's eye.

=============

My mother quit riding motorcycles because once she was riding down through town and some guy pushing a baby carriage stepped out right in front of her. She had to put the bike down to avoid hitting him. It scared her so badly, she never rode again and had my dad sell the bikes. That was 35 years ago.

562 Police Body Cameras Can Threaten Civil Rights of Black and Brown People, New Report Says

The number of U.S. police departments outfitting their officers with body cameras increases each year, but the cameras can pose a threat to civil rights if the departments fail to set rules that govern when officers review footage from their cameras, according to a new report.

The vast majority of the nation's biggest police departments allow officers to watch footage from body cameras whenever they want, including before they write their incident reports or make statements, said the report, which was released Tuesday by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.

"Unrestricted footage review places civil rights at risk and undermines the goals of transparency and accountability," said Vanita Gupta, former head of the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and current head of the Leadership Conference, in the report's introduction.

565 I came close to hitting a motorcyclist one day. He did nothing wrong, but his wheel hit some rocks on the road and he skidded, and went down.

This is a fear of mine, every time I'm on the road. Bike lanes are on the far sides of roadways, where all the broken glass, rocks, and debris end up. That can make the riding there risky. In a bike with 3mm wide wheels, that can be very dangerous. I like a heavier bicycle, so I can weather that stuff and not worry about breaking a rim or tire. But its still nervewracking.

Even worse are cars that don't seem to be aware there IS a bike lane and take corners until you get clipped by their mirror. There's only so far I can move over here, watch what you're doing!

Some drivers just don't seem to even notice cyclists. Some cyclists seem to think they are invincible on the road. Its awful.

I've been hit on my bike before -- it was my fault, it was like 5 in the morning and I was on my paper route as a kid, I just did not see the car as I crossed the road. There's no give in a car. They barely notice a human on a bike.

The problem I see with your argument is that it assumes all services currently being provided by both the feds and state/local government are necessary. A zero sum game of sorts.

I don't agree. Why do we have low tax states and high tax states? Sure, you can make the case that some of the services provided high tax states are good and maybe would benefit low tax states but clearly not all of them.

You hear a lot of Republican pols from NY and CA now claiming that $300k is not a lot of money in their states because of the high costs. Sorry, there is no way in hell that anyone in NY is getting that much good government service that it justifies enough local government spending to make $300K a middle class salary. And the reason that these states have such a high cost of living is largely because of these enormous state and local taxes.

I want taxes cut at both the federal and in my case state/local level. There is a ton of waste and needless spending at both levels.

I forget the final total of number of times he got hit but it was a bunch. Finally, the wife who has been through this shit too often draws the line in the sand. Tells him next time, no hospital visits, no hand holding. She's going straight to a every divorce lawyer in town, so he can't get one, then going to clean his clock while he lays in the hospital.

Since I bike as well as drive, I am super conscious of bicyclists and give them a very wide berth when I pass them . My beef is bicyclists who cycle way out in the road, even when they have a bike lane they should be staying in. Also those who think stop signs do not apply to them and go sailing right through them. If you are on the road, traffic signals and signs should be obeyed by you. Hell, pedestrians have to follow walk and don't walk signs, why is someone on a bike exempt?

I once very nearly crashed my bike into a car door when a driver opened the door when I was only a few yards behind, so that's another thing I keep an eye on when I'm cycling on the street next to parked cars.

Biggest beef as a cyclist: people who walk in the middle of bike paths and have ear buds in, so they don't hear bells or people calling out "I'm passing on your left."

And if programs are to exist, they should be at the state and local levels as much as possible. If that means that more waste at the state and local level relative to the Feds becomes more likely, so be it.

Take our mind-blowingly stupid state, CA. Zero evidence that more than 30% of the electorate understands or cares about any serious issue, based on the last 10 years. Negligible chance they'd come to the right conclusions (finally pay attention to spending/taxation).

Even though up to 18 million or so Americans lost affordable health insurance starting in 2014, overnight, most people are unaffected, and the media propagandizes ridiculously about the smaller number who now get subsidies, so the mass of voters (including "conservatives") are unserious about getting rid of O-care. Moreover, the people such a gambit hits are those like me who zealously itemize--and WE VOTE REPUBLICAN. Well, we vote for Patriots first, Republicans Second, and lots of political bozos have an (R) after their names, but you get the idea.

Moreover, isn't this double taxation?

I know this idea seems like political dynamite to some, but think it through, please,

619 heh.... I saw that doofus on Tucker last night.

Wants to outlaw muzzleloaders because:

1. 50 calibre

2. Silencers

yeah.... I know.

I own a working reproduction of a .62 caliber English civil war-era doglock/flintlock pistol.

I doubt a silencer would work.

620 Curmudgeon, correct, but recall that the O-care catastrophe hit, almost exclusively, self-employed, small business, ind. contractor cohort - a category likely skewed as much non-moonbat as property tax itemizers.

And you'd never know it's even happening. People here often whine about what are somewhat trivial premium increases, otherwise having been little affected by O-care, while millions enter their third year of mortgage-sized premiums. Ruinous.

But like I said, what's the chance that "victims" of this tax law change would draw the correct conclusions? Most CA residents I know operate at hamster-level on politics and public policy, they're clueless, they default to the dumbest media/academia/pop culture line du jour (which as you know keeps getting dumber and more extreme in CA).

Note the dramatic, almost overnight (in political terms) collapse in citizen responsibility in CA. Gray Davis was recalled for several reasons, but the top "issues" that got him in trouble were: driver's licenses for illegals, outrageous theft of public money by unionized public "servants" via sweetheart deals, and his pioneering tainting of state finances (accounting shenanigans to use bond issue $$ for operational costs, unconstitutionally).

Hilarious! Today, not a single one of those things would concern more than 30% of the voters, and would be endorsed by up to 60%, depending.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, CBD: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he hath borne me on his back a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is! my gorge rims at it.

Wut? yes, I've read Shakespeare, try not to faint.

623 Disparate impact

We have to stop jailing PoC. Every time we incarcerate a black man, it has a disparate impact on black people. Every time an Arab, disparate impact on Arabs.

If we can't all share equally in the jailing, it shouldn't be done.

Every time we jail a white nationalist, it has a disparate impact on...well, nobody cares, because while equal under law, they're not in some judge's "suspect groups" and need to be actually protected , by the equal protection of the laws, which now has become treatment, because libs like to expand everything--except for times when they don't.

626 We jail more blacks because they commit vastly more crimes in proportion to other races.

Just because you don't like the truth doesn't mean the truth doesn't exist.

It's not because of racism or slavery. All over the world, including nations ruled by blacks, it's the case.

Sorry.
