Al Franken Is a Big Fat Sex Criminal
A reporter accuses Franken of kissing and groping her against her will.
In December of 2006, I embarked on my ninth USO Tour to entertain our troops, my eighth to the Middle East since the 9/11 attacks. My father served in Vietnam and my then-boyfriend (and now husband, Chris) is a pilot in the Air Force, so bringing a ‘little piece of home’ to servicemembers stationed far away from their families was both my passion and my privilege.Franken is claiming the event for which there is documentary proof for was "Just a joke," because groping an unconscious woman is funny (do you get it?!), but is denying the forcible kissing. Actually he's not denying it: He's using the Kevin Spacey Defense of just saying "My recollection differs" and then not saying anything more. I suppose he'll next be telling us he intends to live his life as a gay man. Mitch McConnell isn't buying that and has called for a Senate ethics probe:
... Franken had written some skits for the show and brought props and costumes to go along with them. Like many USO shows before and since, the skits were full of sexual innuendo geared toward a young, male audience. As a TV host and sports broadcaster, as well as a model familiar to the audience from the covers of FHM, Maxim and Playboy, I was only expecting to emcee and introduce the acts, but Franken said he had written a part for me that he thought would be funny, and I agreed to play along. When I saw the script, Franken had written a moment when his character comes at me for a 'kiss'. I suspected what he was after, but I figured I could turn my head at the last minute, or put my hand over his mouth, to get more laughs from the crowd. On the day of the show Franken and I were alone backstage going over our lines one last time. He said to me, "We need to rehearse the kiss." I laughed and ignored him. Then he said it again. I said something like, 'Relax Al, this isn’t SNL…we don't need to rehearse the kiss." He continued to insist, and I was beginning to get uncomfortable. He repeated that actors really need to rehearse everything and that we must practice the kiss. I said 'OK' so he would stop badgering me. We did the line leading up to the kiss and then he came at me, put his hand on the back of my head, mashed his lips against mine and aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth. I immediately pushed him away with both of my hands against his chest and told him if he ever did that to me again I wouldn't be so nice about it the next time. I walked away. All I could think about was getting to a bathroom as fast as possible to rinse the taste of him out of my mouth. I felt disgusted and violated. Not long after, I performed the skit as written, carefully turning my head so he couldn't kiss me on the lips. ... At the time I didn’t want to cause trouble... I tried to let it go, but I was angry. Other than our dialogue on stage, I never had a voluntary conversation with Al Franken again. I avoided him as much as possible and made sure I was never alone with him again for the rest of the tour. Franken repaid me with petty insults, including drawing devil horns on at least one of the headshots I was autographing for the troops. But he didn't stop there. The tour wrapped and on Christmas Eve we began the 36-hour trip home to L.A. After 2 weeks of grueling travel and performing I was exhausted. When our C-17 cargo plane took off from Afghanistan I immediately fell asleep, even though I was still wearing my flak vest and Kevlar helmet. It wasn’t until I was back in the US and looking through the CD of photos we were given by the photographer that I saw this one:

The answer I'm hoping for is that she was a liberal in 2006 and was willing to absorb this assault because she thought overall Franken would help the liberal cause. But maybe she shifted right over the years, and the hypocrisy of the media with respect to Moore just became too much and she thought she would finally come forward with this.

Yup, my take on it, exactly. He knows the photo is being taken, because he's mugging for the camera. He's making a joke at the expense of a sleeping woman, but there's actually no assault in evidence. If this ever gets to litigation, I would expect Franken's lawyers to claim that the whole thing was a show they putting on, and that the woman was feigning sleep for the sake of the photo.

I agree, this is largely the problem.
Young men are not taught any moral code, adult men aren't able to respond to poor action with physical violence, and have been raised to never do so. There should be immediate, shocking, and memorable consequence to mistreating women.
See, I don't like the overbearing, extreme way Islam goes about treating women? But I do think maybe we could nudge our culture just a little bit in that direction where young women are protected and escorted at least somewhat rather than just left to the worst of society and hoping nothing bad happens.

Young men are not taught any moral code, adult men aren't able to respond to poor action with physical violence, and have been raised to never do so. There should be immediate, shocking, and memorable consequence to mistreating women.

I'll admit I was just responding to a post and didn't pay much attention, but "attractive" is a funny thing. And thank goodness.
And yes, I agree, and I certainly wasn't trying to suggest supermodel > wife of thirty years who raised three kids and helps take care of my live-in elderly mother.
That said, a happily married husband would still likely be goofy around both and for the same reasons, even if one was never, ever the slightest option.

I have a low opinion of Franken, I don't care for Moore. I would never have cast a ballot in favor of either even if I lived in a state where I might cast one.

I've come to doubt Nelson's total veracity about her assault, but that is her own fault and the fault of her attorney.- its a horrifying shame if "sweetening" her story with manufactured evidence to manipulate the public undermines any part of her story that's true, or makes people suspect and criticize other women telling the truth about being exploited or having to fend off an inappropriate advance from a creeper.
Franken was gross and vulgar and forward and people should laugh at him for that. Minnesota can ask of him whatever they think is in Minnesota's or their own resident-of-Minnesota's best interest. But it doesn't mean that some crummy vulgar joke in the past means he still pulls that crap.

I've noted before that many men (and many women) don't grasp that the choices are not act like an arrogant asshole and act like a wimp. I lost interest in guys because they were too damn wishy washy and I was forever being the one deciding what movie we would go to, where we would go to dinner, where to go for drinks, etc.... There's a way of being assertive without being a jackhole about it. There's a way of "being nice" that doesn't involve making you look spineless.
