Posted by: J.J. Sefton at November 16, 2017 09:36 AM (mbhDw)

31 Ack! I self-willowed:

This is either great timing or awful timing:

I saw that a blu-ray is coming out for-

"Blame It On Rio"

an oldish comedy i saw a couple of times on HBO(I think) with Michael Caine and Demi Moore among others.

It's a mild, good-humored sex farce about-

Yep. You guessed it...a Roy Moore situation in Rio with two groups of Americans on vacation.

Michael Caine plays an older guy getting divorced(?) who developes an interest in the friend of his 18 year old daughter.

It's been a long time but I remember it being funny in a sitcom kind of way but with boobs and plenty of Brazilian ladies butts on display at the beach.

Think of it as an almost "family friendly" version of "10".

Strangely enough, the young woman in the painting above is reading the screenplay for "Blame It On Rio".

74 The "Building a battery for a Tesla car spews as much CO2 as 8 years of driving a regular car" in the sidebar is well worth clicking on. The best part is that people link to "we're shutting down comments because disagreement doesn't help science" Popular Science *cough* debunking the claim and literally calling it fake news. It's right there in the link:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/hybrid-electric/
news/a27039/tesla-battery-emissions-study-fake-news/

They say this with a straight face:

"That's a sensational claim, one that's been seized upon by EV haters and gleefully posted by climate change-denying blogs"

Right before they follow up, and are completely serious and unaware of what they do, with:

"The study's finding of 8.2 years is "based on a series of assumptions." To get to that figure, two of those assumptions must have been that the internal-combustion vehicle in question gets great mileage and isn't driven very much*... Those are nifty assumptions."

Global warming folks openly criticizing people for assumptions regarding data is my new favorite piece on the internets.

* You know, exactly like the electric car it's competing with.

82 That is very lovely.

MP4, if you're in this thread, I have a suggestion for you on starting to walk.

Don't go from nothing to I have to do half an hour or forty five minutes or whatever.

Start with ten minutes. Hell, start with five minutes. Then the next day add a minute because, sure, I can do one more minute. Do that every day until you hit whatever your high end goal is.

It's kind of like losing a lot of weight. Don't look at it as how the hell will I ever lose 100 pounds? No, I want to lose one pound. Then the next one. Then the one after that.

Baby steps are fine so long as they are steps.

No, I don't even remotely practice what I preach but that doesn't mean it's not good advice I'm stealing from other people.

99 well, the leonardo sold for a whopping $450 million last night, as you may have heard.

the people who discovered it and paid under $10,000 and then authenticated it were not the sellers. they had offered the painting to museums (probably the getty, kimball (which bought a michelangelo paintina few years ago) and the met) for reportedly around $200 million. no sale. they then sold it in a private sale through sotheby's to a swiss dealer for $80 million who resold it to a russian collector for c. 120 million. (these two are in litigation over other transactions; i don't think this sale is effected). the russian made the big score here.

i fon't know who bought it, but i continue to suspect as i suggested here a few weeks ago, that it is going to china.

we'll see...

107 99 well, the leonardo sold for a whopping $450 million last night, as you may have heard.

the people who discovered it and paid under $10,000 and then authenticated it were not the sellers. they had offered the painting to museums (probably the getty, kimball (which bought a michelangelo paintina few years ago) and the met) for reportedly around $200 million. no sale. they then sold it in a private sale through sotheby's to a swiss dealer for $80 million who resold it to a russian collector for c. 120 million. (these two are in litigation over other transactions; i don't think this sale is effected). the russian made the big score here.

i fon't know who bought it, but i continue to suspect as i suggested here a few weeks ago, that it is going to china.

we'll see...

I have no idea if you're still around, man, but if you are I wanted to suggest looking into keto and maybe even consider doing carnivore keto. Keto is very low carb, and you want to keep it pretty clean for best results. The nutshell for carnivore keto is that it's animal products only, so meats, cheeses and dairy, butter and other animal fats.

Keto itself has helped a lot of people control diabetes to the point where it's in remission, and I personally know folks who are managing mental stuff (severe depression, bipolar disorder) with the keto diet protocol. Two friends of mine did the carnivore version of keto for a month or so and when they added vegetables back in they immediately had depression symptoms come roaring back, which then abated after going back to animal products only.

This is a video of another good friend of mine speaking at KetoCon in August. She manages her bipolar disorder with keto. So, it's something to look into between the diabetes and the depression.

Very likely. I had to work through some back issues a number of years ago and that was sort of the approach that panned out for me. Nothing formal, but, like you, just reading and putting stuff together that I thought might work.

FWIW, I think yoga did more for my back than anything. I wouldn't do it in public, but the library has lots of DVDs to get an idea of non-enthusiast level stuff and work out a decent routine.

Took a few years, but the motion and stretching definitely helped.

186 The Navy has never required prospective recruits to demonstrate much in the way of Forrest Gump-ian running talent prior to reporting to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, but changes are on the horizon.

A mile and a half will have to be covered, for men, in under 16 minutes and 10 seconds, and under 18 minutes and 7 seconds for women, the Navy said.

I used to go quite a bit in the 80s and had loads of fun, but now it's become a "thing" and people plan their visits around when they put out new merchandise, and then those people go and sell them at consignment shops or on ebay.

Now it's mostly just dregs around here, and it's yard sales or nothing if you're looking for interesting, inexpensive stuff.

199 kamskoi was one of the so-called "wanderers" a group of realist painters who rebelled against the french academic styles in russian art. they wanted to depict their own country and people including peasants, realistic landscapes (e.g. shish kin, who's very good) and portraits of notable intellectuals such as tolstoy. it parallels the rise of great russian novelists. some of these artists, such as repine, lter became impressionistic.

233 If Moore is your "answer to the status quo", get ready to lose, and lose big.

Frankly, I don't support a world where unsubstantiated accusation equals guilt. Anyone who does, should get ready for the use of this as a political tactic ad nauseum. One single accusation will in the future, have the potential to sink an entire campaign.

But I hardly believe Moore is the standard bearer anybody wants.

That being said I bet the people of Alabama get pissed off and elect him. They will never watch a Democrat get elected and at this point it's either Moore or a Democrat.

But Moore (and the party who felt is necessary to make unproven allegation = guilt) will be stalked and divided by this.

Moore has been an attention seeker for years, and I bet he has crossed a lot of people in Alabama politics over the years that wouldn't mind slapping him down just for the fun of it. So he was a perfect target to be slammed for *something* and to have people pile on for the heck of it. The accusations may just have been opportunistic because of that and drawing attention away from the Democrat/Progressive sex scandals.

Personally, I think they launched everything a couple of weeks too early if the inevitable questioning of the accusations is starting to get some traction.

Marcus why? so what ?

Are the GOP going to fight against the People who elected him, much like they do all of us citizens that elected Trump?

no biggie."

I'm a little unclear why the choice is Moore/Bannon or the status quo.

I choose neither.

I despise the people in Washington and people like McConnell. In fact if McConnell had an ounce of respect for the party he would resign.

But I don't like Bannon either. He has no plan beyond internecine conflict that will destroy an potential majority. He has no issue with that because he has a fantasy of the "new" GOP rising up like a Phoenix

I seem to remember him bashing Bubba pretty consistently and cogently. Hillary is even more loathsome but he clearly prefers her to Trump. That is deranged.
Maybe he needs to go Gorillas in the Mist and find himself some Trump supporters to listen to. He might even be surprised to learn they are not all toothless, cousin humping, inbred who actually can defend their support of the president.
He no longer has the brain cells needed to listen, absorb and change.
He now officially disgusts me.

285 233 If Moore is your "answer to the status quo", get ready to lose, and lose big.

If that is Bannon's plan, welcome back to minority

True story... was at a fencing event where everyone was camping...

Camp next to my friends was drunk and loud all night, even after being asked to quiet down...

At 5 in the morning... there was a confrontation that started to turn physical... One of the top fencers in the country, Air Force Col., Martial artist.... vs a drunk and his very drunk girlfriend...

Guy tried to push my Fencer friend, and was taken down.... (arm bar).. drunk girlfriend then started to physically confront the Col. who looked at her and said 'do you want the same treatment?'

Her response.... one for the Ages!

and I quote...'But... But... I have a VAGINA!"

480 >>The photo of Franken grabbing her boobs while she slept is pretty bad.

Even worse coz she is in camo flak vest and looks like a soldier.

Even worse after you read the context in which this happened:

Other than our dialogue on stage, I never had a voluntary
conversation with Al Franken again. I avoided him as much as possible
and made sure I was never alone with him again for the rest of the tour.

Franken repaid me with petty insults, including drawing devil horns
on at least one of the headshots I was autographing for the troops.

But he didn't stop there.

The tour wrapped and on Christmas Eve we began the 36-hour trip home
to L.A.After 2 weeks of grueling travel and performing I was exhausted.
When our C-17 cargo plane took off from Afghanistan I immediately fell
asleep, even though I was still wearing my flak vest and Kevlar helmet.
It wasn't until I was back in the US and looking through the CD of photoswe were given by the photographer that I saw this one.

When it got time to fish or cut bait the coach dropped the requirement; there were only a few of us on the team who could run a mile in under 6 minutes. Football players rarely have the same body types as milers.

My dad used to watch me struggling to break 6 minutes and just shook his head; back in the 1940's when the world record was 4:02 he ran a 4:17 - with a 9:58 two mile.
