16 Great balls of fire!

Jerry Lee Lewis blew up his career by marrying his first cousin (once removed) when she was 13 and he was 22. She looked like she was 12.

In the movie she was played by none other than Winona Ryder, who served Dennis Quaid pancakes.

73 This is a story of an iconic toy, the Teddy Bear. What makes Teddy Bears so special? The paper ponders this question by way of reflecting the author's lifelong relation to her own Teddy. The result of this reflection is that it is Teddies' cuteness, bearness and softness as well as their unique role as intimate bedmates that makes them so special. Altogether, it seems that the secret behind Teddy Bears' success is that they manifest and embody human vulnerability.

I guess I wasted my time going into science.

An abstract is a statement before a paper that explains what is in the rest of the paper. So its a quick summary of what the paper is supposed to be about. So like a scientific paper will include the purpose of the paper and likely will include a statement on the findings.

AND...a good rule of thumb to reading most scientific papers is to be sure to read the conclusion as well. Often editors/"peers," the author, &c, get the abstract to lean a bit in some specific direction when in reality the findings of the paper are not necessarily that way at all.

Thoroughly subpar burritos There's nothing quite like the mom 'n pop Mexican restaurants, or a good home-style taco truck.

Taco trucks were my very lifeblood when I started working. I might not have survived but for the steady supply of made-from-scratch spicy guacamole, sizzling chicken fajitas, savory seared bell peppers and sweet onion... and the enchiladas, God be praised, the enchiladas.

174 I confess.
I love teddy bears.
They don't poop or pee or drool or shed.
They don't even eat or drink unless you want them to.
Then they go for cookies and tea. Mostly cookies.

I wouldn't mind being one.
You could get chubby and never have to shave.
And eat cookies.

Now, real bears --- or 'natural' bears, as I call them, because teddy bears are also real --- I dunno. Black bears look darn cute in pictures or from a safe distance.
But up close? Nope.

If your a person with legal training and you are considering hitting on a young woman, why would you sign and date their yearbook to provide handy evidence that you were with that person on the date they accused you of?

I thought it was weird that a guy would get a 14 year old to paw him, and then stop without it going further and no other person claiming he tried it again. So I guess there is another claiming it happened when they were 16, but the series of events leading up to the assault are fantastic.

I'm not saying Moore is innocent and these woman are lying. I'm just finding the evidence, as well the timing, questionable enough to not be a factor in my vote. He can always be removed after a trial. After all, its how they are treating Bob Menendez.

213 Fenelon, I was on earlier this morning and mentioned that a woman at my church told us she sat behind the pastor's wife (and mother of the murdered daughter, Annabelle) of the Texas church on a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Charlotte on the Sunday of the shootings.

The poor woman received a phone call *on the plane* telling her her daughter had been killed, along with several others. She was hysterical (of course) and in a state of shock, and someone gave her their first class seat. When they arrived in Charlotte, there was someone with a wheelchair to take her to her connecting flight.

I was gobsmacked that she would receive the news while sitting on a plane, but then remembered CNN would be on every TV in whatever airports she was traveling through.

So heartbreaking.

267 So this latest Moore accuser says that her boyfriend pulled into the parking lot just as the assault was ending and his presence helped stop it.

So the boyfriend can come forward now and tell us that he saw the girl being pushed out of Moore's car onto the pavement, and that there were red marks on her neck, her clothes were disheveled, she was upset and frightened, right?

And the siblings and/or parents (assuming the parents are not dead) can tell us that they saw the bruises that she says were on her neck the next day. (If anybody touched my 16-year old daughter and left bruises on her neck, they wouldn't live long enough to run for senate. What the hell kind of parents were these? She tells them Moore tried to rape her, and they just say well keep it to yourself, dear, because he works in the D.A.'s office?).

If this assault happened as she says, then there should be plenty of people (the boyfriend, parents, siblings) who can provide some corroboration. So let's hear from them.

We are promised that we will be persecuted for our beliefs. We are promised that the road is wide to perdition but the gate is narrow. We are promised burdens and labor and pain, but there will be reward for perseverance. Nobody ever said it would be lovely here on earth.

Someday, those who do the persecuting will discover the straw man they built up to cause harm with has been burnt away, and they will be left with ashes.

And yet, we pray for them. Mostly because we are told to, but also because it makes us better, on the whole. And because hate will destroy beauty, and truth, and that way lies madness and perdition.

When the little Guevaras were young we had a neighbor in the Midwest who invited us over one night to "see the raccoons." Our development bordered on wild land, and this idiot used to feed raccoons that came onto his deck.

We were inside watching through the glass patio door in horror as raccoon after raccoon came scrambling onto the deck while he fed them, until finally there were around 40 or so of them.

Einstein came in and asked if we'd like our tykes (one was barely walking at that point) to come out and feed these 40 hungry raccoons.

311 Thank you, AP. Yeah, gas company guy came in and the main furnace kicked right on but we couldn't tell for the upstairs one which is way back in a corner of the highest attic (building is a 100+ year old Victorian) and he didn't want to crawl over the joists so we'll have our HVAC company come in to check if it doesn't seem to be working. Gas company guy gave us the name of the company that did the mark up of the lines because all the bills go to them.

323 Yeah, the real thing that some people especially in Boston and so on find a bit creepy is that Moore apparently did want a recent HS grad rather than a college coed when he started dating/courting looking for his wife to be. I don't know if he dated enough coeds getting his degree to figure out that most of them were getting fed commie BS, and being made more immature even in the early 80s or just wanted to marry a virgin. I'm sure that was old fashioned and a bit weird any time after the 1950s, but its not all that weird. And if they can prove he actually was anything close to Weinstein they can ask him to resign and have another special election. I would be OK with McTurtle and the GOPe saying something like that. Them saying they'd prefer the commie is royally pissing me off and reminding me they helped Lois Lerner et. al. attack the tea party.

355 Here's a thought: How 'bout we stick with the rule of law, including the "innocent until proven guilty" part?

I'm just about a sick of this witch hunt as I can be.

If somebody harasses you, or rapes you, then report it. If you don't report it, then exactly how much harm is done? (this does NOT apply to the underaged--they need to tell an adult, who then reports it).

If some other reason means you can't report it, you probably benefited from the alleged harassment in some way (better job, better prospects, more money IDK), in which case it wasn't rape, it was a negotiation. Utterly foul and disgusting, but if you took something from the engagement, then guess what? Not rape.

Okay, crucify me now. But all this "40 years ago he looked at me as if I were naked" is getting a bit nauseating.

Perverts have always existed. Take a fine look at some greek pottery some time. It is a parent's job to protect his or her kid, and an adult's job to watch out for him/herself. If you want to hang the bastards, then get after them legally. Otherwise..... you are in it for the money, and that's not rape.

376 That freaks me out, I am afraid of mountain lions. Ambush predators.

I think pretty much all predators are ambush predators.

378 Why doesn't anyone ever ask me if I want extra bacon. Chick Fil A, the target of my wrath today, should make that a standard part of their patter. I would say yes, every time. Easy money! Wake up you fresh-faced little darling's. I endure the long wait, several times a week and not once has anyone offered to baconize me! So, here I am again, lightly intoxicated, totally aggravated by the politics of those that I was inclined to listen too politely while they jabbered their jabber. But getting home and pulling up an open thread, well, that means bacon!

383 My sister went hiking in Vail with a few friends. They developed the film (yes, olden tymes) and noticed a mountain lion in the background of several photos - the cat was stalking them the entire hike!

It is NOT preferred by me, even if I mostly disagree with you!
Your disagreement is polite and not condescending.
I welcome it.

385 George Carlin once said, "If you nail together, two things that have never been nailed together before...some schmuck will buy it from you! 'A left-nostril inhaler, glows in the dark, with your state motto on it'..."

Same applies to a scholastic paper. Any variation on any topic you can imagine: SOMEone, somewhere, wrote a thesis on it. For credit.

386 336 ---- I need a full sized 9mm auto for a house/auto firearm....

Go to a range where you can rent different pistols, and see what you both like.

That said, how about an AR based pistol in .300 Blackout? Sling, laser, subsonic ammo, suppressor and a 30 round magazine. Would probably get the job done and spare your hearing.

389 223 They claim the Q in GQ stands for Quarterly but based on the content I think its more like the one in LBGTQwerty.

I mean... a men's magazine all about fashion with almost no women in it?
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 13, 2017 04:22 PM (39g3+)

GQ has gone GQueer. It has become feminized, sisified, and homosexualized, as well as disgustingly leftist.

Three decades ago or so, they had manly stories combined with fashion tips on how to be suave and debonair, a la Ian Fleming's James Bond. Not realistic, of course, but at least something a normal man would want to read.

I cancelled my subscription some years ago, when they introduced and for all I know still have perfumed ads and I had this feeling that the underlying subliminal message in every article was to vaseline your bunghole and get your prostate poked.

393 Honestly the teddy bear paper is fairly tame compared to most of the outrageous and idiotic crap Real Peer Review posts. There are some real doozies.
