Note that She's wearing an almost identical jersey except no letter and no shoulder pads.

I thought she was sewing, or at least pinning, his letter on the sweater. Sewing would be best done while the garment isn't being worn, but pinning would make sense as it's about the only way to make sure it's straight once it's sewn.

56 #9: A circle like this was added to many of Rockwell's Post covers. It makes sure the title of the mag is blocked out properly and doesn't collide with a face or other important detail. This could be one of those intended for a cover.

Those are pins. If you look at the embiggened picture, you can see several pins on the letter, so it appears that she is pinning it into position for later stitching.

they set up bleachers out in a nearby field, set up the goal posts and limed the lines. The tents were because it's gets cold in the hinterlands during football season so they had to have someplace to warm up a bit.

114 Lawyering up this morning...

Last July we inherited a detached condo from the MIL. It went through a trust and the trust officers placed insurance on the vacant house with a specialty company.

When the final tax forms were finished, the trust transferred ownership to the wife. She talked with the insurance agent and carried over the same policy, making sure to carry a rider for full replacement cost.

Last week we found a water leak that cause about $100,000 in damage. The adjuster came out, checked everything and later called to say we didn't have any coverage for water leaks.

This is not going to be fun.

125 Even if you assume that the Roy Moore allegations are true, why does it follow that we have to give Democrats control of the Senate as a result?
Posted by: Biggs Darklighter

++++++++++++

I don't think anyone here is making that case, more like it might make sense to explore options with him dropping out and swapping him rather than handing that seat to the Democrat. Find a Republican that doesn't have McConnell's stink on him.

The Sean Hannity interview where Moore basically conceded he was dating High School girls in his 30's (and even a colleague saying it was well known he did this) is enough info that I'd prefer a different option because I simply think he'll lose. I don't care about the legality at that time, he's a predator and a hypocrite considering his constant moral crusading and he was already badly underperforming before all of this.

But if push came to shove, I would definitely vote for Moore if I was an Alabama voter and had to.

But I really think this is Akin 2.0 and Moore is not worth it.

Lots of informal ones although I'm sure there are also a lot of academic/medical ones as well.

The big danger in football aside from all the obvious leg related issues are the head injuries. For year, we were all taught to lead with our head when making a tackle although that has changed somewhat. But head to head contact for lineman is pretty much inevitable on every play.

We were also encouraged to get back on the field as soon as possible lest we lose our jobs. I can't tell you the number of times I was asked "are you hurt or are you injured?". Injury meant take a seat, hurt meant rub some dirt on it and get the hell back on the field.

CTE has become an enormous problem in football and it's growing. I can't see anyway that is ever going to stop.

I suffered a lot more hurt playing rugby but a lot fewer injuries for whatever that's worth.

163 I wanted to post this before I consume more caffeine and check my emails from this weekend.

An elderly lady at our church stood yesterday during prayer requests, and said she was on a plane in Ft. Lauderdale flying to Charlotte, NC heading home, and the woman in front of her received a phone call telling her her daughter had just been killed along with several other people in her church.

She was the wife of the pastor of the Baptist church in TX, and mother of Annabelle, the 14 y.o. who was murdered.

The lady described how the poor woman kept being told about others who had been killed or injured.

Someone in first class gave up their seat to her, as she was hysterical (I can't even begin to imagine) and in shock. When the plane landed in Charlotte, a wheelchair was brought to the plane for her, to get her to her connecting flight.

I spoke with the church member during coffee hour, and she said it was horrible. And then she finished with, "Something has to be done to get rid of guns in this country." I kindly and gently told her the shooter wouldn't have had a gun if the AF had informed the FBI about his mental illness and abuse issues.

Anyhow, I had to share that. I wondered why anyone would call the poor wife/mother on the plane, but realized she would have seen the news on CNN in the airport.

Just heartbreaking and shocking.

215 Still not buying the 'theft' claim regarding the stabbing in Minnesota. I think the Muslim saw infidels being gay and went Instant Jihad.

If the perp was discovered committing theft he would be expected to brandish the knife, perhaps take a swipe with it to clear his path and then run. But he stabbed one fellow multiple times and the other once (by early reports). If running from a crime scene, why go out of your way to stab a second person?

Also, the way the report is written is strange, with references to "related" people and "family" of one of the victims but no reference as to what relation this person or persons are or were. Maybe it's just the crappy writing so prevalent these days in journalism but I'm suspicious.

That's the problem. We thought we were covered for a burst pipe under a sink, with this expensive specialty vacant home policy, however, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Had the agent mentioned it, we would have bought additional insurance for just this eventuality.

The trust officer, having insured numerous vacant homes in the past, was under the impression that this policy did cover any damage like that. In fact, it was her fiduciary duty to insure the property for that risk while it was under her jurisdiction. We simply continued the same policy.

Nobody was trying to save money on the policy or arguing price.

A representative of the specialty insurance company said they don't even insure against undetected water leakage in Michigan (although they do in other states), so it's a question as to why the agent didn't use a different company or use the Michigan basic risk pool that does cover water leaks.

This particular specialty company (American Modern) does have a reputation for paying higher commissions than other companies.

Of course, in the mean time, we're fucked.

276 242 Has anyone ever accused Lindsey Graham of sexual improprieties, because now would be a very good time to do so.
______________

I seem to recall a time, I think it was around 1975, when I was in South Carolina and Lindsey Graham groped me, told me he liked me, and told me he wanted to lick my privates. He also told me that if I told my mommy or anybody else, he'd kill us all. I remember he had blue eyes and scary big teeth, and he smelled bad.

Now I demand that Graham give up his senate seat, as he is clearly unfit to serve. Sure, I have no proof of my accusation, although if you give me a few minutes to make some phone calls to my relatives, I bet I could find a few who would be willing to tell you that I told them this story decades ago. But you must believe me, because that is the standard of proof now: accusations made, so long as they are serious, must be believed in the court of public opinion!

It was not uncommon back then to see guys in their 20s, even up into their early 30s, dating teenage girls. The rule of thumb was that they (the girls) be street legal, agewise. Aside from that, it was game on. What the age of consent was in Alabama back then I don't know. Today it's 16 (here in Texas, it's 17).

Point is, times change. This supposedly happened (if it happened; I am by no means convinced, given that this guy has been involved in AL politics for decades, yet this story is only now coming to light; I smell a MFM/fake news rat) upwards of 40 years ago, two generations. We look upon this sort of thing as skeezy now, but back then it was not that unusual.

First Baptist Church Pastor Frank Pomeroy of Sutherland Springs,
Texas, preached a message of forgiveness and said at the first Sunday
service following last weekend's mass slaughter that the victims are
with Jesus Christ.
"I knew everybody who gave their life that day.
Some of them were my best friends. And my daughter," Pomeroy said
during Sunday's emotional service, referring to the 26 victims,
including his 14year-old daughter, Anabelle. The pastor preached a message of forgiveness, as the small town
community attempts to pull itself together after the worst mass shooting
in the state's history.
"We have the freedom to proclaim Christ.
Folks, we have the freedom to choose, and rather than choose darkness as
one young man did that day, I say we choose life," the pastor said.

yet she started in '82 while he ended his time there in '82.

So were they contemporaries?

Not only that, her "testimony" is suspect due to here being female, most likely a Democrat and otherwise liberal and looking for some face time on TV.

Besides, dating younger girls does not mean sexually molesting them.

I'm not saying that people don't do stupid things sometimes. But if all these stupid things were done by Moore, why didn't we hear a whisper of it when he was involved in other controversial situations? That Ten Commandments thing was pretty big. To me, that would have been the prime opportunity to come out with sexual allegations. "Weirdo Christian Hypocrite is a Child Molester!" etc. Why would someone hold back that information then?

Embarrassing for people that accept the bigoted dogma pushed by leftist hacks maybe. Most rural people are made of stiffer stuff ... and will accept others as individuals, not as some fake NY Slimes caricature.

Those individuals that push the "white hate" bigotry and racism SHOULD be ashamed, but of course don't realize they are in "the borg" ... in "the matrix". All outsiders scare them, as they've been carefully taught to be haters.

437 When people make the allusion in the Moore matter to it being Akin they don't seem to understand that Akin did nothing wrong and also that what he said was backed up by real studies and attacked by those citing "studies" which had all the scientific validity of those cited as proving "global warming" is a catastrophe.
Posted by: geoffb at November 13, 2017 11:02 AM (zOpu5)

Akin's claim was that women who are raped do not get pregnant due to physiological changes that occur under the stress of sexual assault. This is untrue. Women who are raped sometimes do get pregnant as a result. It also implies women who do get pregnant as the result of rape must have somehow liked it on some level.

Akin was a Democratic crossover primary pick for the GOP nomination for the simple reason he was the worst in the field during the primaries and rated by McCaskill's campaign team as the easiest to beat during the general. They were right.

467 The NFL brain injury thing reminds me of the early days of CT and MRI. All sorts of things were being diagnosed as "pathology" until medicine caught up with the imaging technology as to conclude that there were more variations and non-pathologic anomalies in the human body than they previously appreciated. Only now they were seeing many (harmless) details they never saw before.

A lot of this "concussion syndrome" is being diagnosed on pathology which, not incidentally, most people do not undergo. I would expect if you did a controlled study and just started slicing up brains of middle aged decedents who died of any other cause, you'll start finding a lot of these "concussion" type injuries. Not to say that it isnt real (I'm not an expert-expert) but I've been around medicine enough to make an educated guess that the true incidence of pathologic behavior due to concussion is probably overstated at this point.

470 Akin said it was less likely that they would get pregnant and that was backed up by many studies that were done prior to 1972 of victims of forcible rape which was what was under discussion.

When this whole thing originally came up back then I researched it. There were a number of studies done covering thousands of forcible rape victims that found they very rarely became pregnant from the rape. The study that the Left cited was done using mostly young girls who had multiple statutory rapes over years and they often became pregnant because they were at a very fertile age and were raped many times.

Studies of forcible rape and pregnancy suddenly ceased being funded right after the SCOTUS decision legalizing abortion in 1972. Funny that.

I call BS. The kid comes off the field with a torn jersey ( I think we all agree that its halftime now). We all know that cheerleaders and players generally don't mix during the game and halftime is not a social event (I been there guys are not thinking about girls during the game).

Janie the cheerleader sees a kid with a torn jersey and thinks IMMA gonna fix that at halftime. She leaves her cheer squad friends and runs up to the parking lot to a car or to a school locker or where she kept that sweat sewing kit, because I don't see her wearing a utility belt with other shit on it like lipstick and stuff.
The she pushes her way onto the field where the players are and seeks out Billy the Baller and says I can fix that for you, if you want Billy. Billy don't care about his jersey being torn. He's like uhh sure. She sits her but down on a muddy, spit covered stool and he kneels down and hunkers in close......
Janie thinks....."make sure to keep your stitches neat and invisible." Of course she has to "steady herself" by placing her hand on his chest. His heart is pounding like a jack hammer so you know she can feel it.
So, no, she's trying to think "stitches" but she has other things on her mind. She had to work hard to get into that position. She likes him and is trying to get him to notice.

508 A lot of this "concussion syndrome" is being diagnosed on pathology which, not incidentally, most people do not undergo.

-----

It's more that we don't know the actual likelihood of CTE because the best way to look for it is a post-mortem analysis of the brain, and only families of people who suspect that they already had brain damage are being tested. It's statistical bias.

If I recall, the best they could come up with was that the actual number of concussions doesn't seem to have as big of a factor in contributing as just years playing the sport.

Had really nothing to do with the injury issue. It was more about the cost of the program versus other spending priorities at the school.

They still field one of the most competitive D1 hockey programs in the country and hockey has at least as big a problem these days with concussions as football.

I don't think it's a big stretch to think you might see some significant brain damage when you have large guys running full speed into each other and ramming their helmeted heads together and incurring repeated concussions i.e. brain trauma.
