HSBC Hong Kong.JPG

This is the HSBC building in Hong Kong after the Sutherland Springs church shooting. I have no basis for comparison, but according to Realpolitik, this would not be done if the view of America was that of a weakened and marginalized country.

The press has done a fine job of minimizing President Trump's accomplishments, but even the NYT has recognized that he is reshaping the federal judiciary "with young and deeply conservative judges." And it is happening at a brisk pace!

It remains to be seen how successful the president will be with legislation...As J.J. Sefton has chronicled over the past week, the tax plan is problematic. ObamaCare is the law of the land for now. But the judiciary is a long-term change that has the greatest chance of pulling America back from the abyss.

The Commerce Department has revealed the 37 major deals signed between U.S. and Chinese companies during President Donald Trump's trip through Asia, totaling more than $250 billion.

The deals coincide with President Donald Trump's visit to China, where he was accompanied by a delegation of nearly 30 CEOs from major American companies.

"Deals can provide a solid foundation for a stronger relationship that is more free, fair, and reciprocal between the U.S. and China," said Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

The left was winning the culture war before he was president, while he was president and after he was president. They WON the culture war long ago.

the irs, cia, fbi, atty gen. lawyers, epa, etc have been politicized and committed illegal acts targeting conservatives, spying on republicans, vastly expanding regulations in edu. and environment. and they got away with it.

this is why defeating clinton was so important, to prevent the institutionalization of the one-party state. it will take more than a few years to dismantle that apparatus.

Yeah. The insane rulings that have been going on for many, many years, something needs to be done about it. It's not just this Hawaiian imbecile or anti-voter ID/sanctuary city idiots within the past few years.

Something needs to be done - either appoint people of integrity, or term limits, or some mechanism of accountability. I believe Vic mentioned that circuit courts are not mandated in the Constitution and could be eliminated by congress, which in the case of the ninth would be a good idea.

With all due respect to Scalia and Gorsuch, I think they were/are too protective of the guild. They would never say, "My fellow justice so-and-so supports this unconstitutional measure with sophistry papered over in legalese. They are not worthy to be justices and there needs to be some mechanism by which they can be impeached and removed". It's kind of disappointing when guild loyalty trumps principle.

180 There is no such thing as a "conservative" judge. Judges either fulfill their mandate - fairly apply the law and uphold the constitution - or they don't. And "originalism"(like the concept of "forcing" in climate studies - if you'll allow a wild yet precisely applicable analogy) is a make-believe concept that disastrously stipulates an absurd destructive notion - that there is any other sane or lawful way to apply/interpret laws than to use their original meaning.

If times change - and they do - you have a changing legislature that can change the laws.

And, as noted above by others, under the constitution, that accountable political branch, Congress, can and should regulate the courts and establish their jurisdiction. Policing their behavior has proven impractical, so the much heavier club of regulating their jurisdiction is long over-due.

So, since everyone acknowledges the orwellian concept that language must be preserved, or it becomesa weapon of tyranny, let's talk about lawful judges, and lawless judges.

Those two CPAs are FOS. I looked at the real Trump plan and most all middle class people would have got a huge tax break. Trumps plan kept the home mortgage deduction and charitable giving all though most middle class people don't use them. Why is that? because most middle class people are like me, they do not have enough deductions to itemize. It only benefits someone who recently bought a house with a high interest loan and rich people.

Of course the CPAs don't like it. It gores their ox.

The acounting industry will suffer if folks can just fill out their own tax forms. But IMO it is ridiculous that anyone who is not running their own business would need a CPA or TurboTax etc to do taxes. Among them:

1) A separate 'Death Penalty' Court. Hears only death penalty cases and all such go directly there; by-passing the Regional Appellate courts.

3) A restriction on source and precedent authorities. No more U. N. Declaration of Rights or French jurisprudence (as per Ginsburg).

Getting NATO to modernize, a hero's welcome in Israel and Poland, getting the Saudis to finally fight terror instead of funding it, his ongoing Asian triumph including massive deals (where Eeyore-Democrats said nothing could be done), the end of the Caliphate, stopping Assad's gassings...it goes on and on.

Reagan won 49 states, not because everyone became conservatives, but because people respond to real leadership.

247 There is no such thing as a "conservative" judge.

256 Mary Catherine Ham made an excellent point on CNN, that I read about at Townhall. She said the leftist press has no credibility and owes Republicans the same standard they've used for decades for Democrats. Moore isn't even accused of any criminal behavior; heck, by Mayor Filner or Gavin Newsom standards, he's a saint.

WaPo and the activist left generally have for years given their political and cultural leaders a complete pass on sexual misbehavior, witness NBC refusing to run a story on Harvey W. just recently (until it was no longer possible to ignore). Bill Clinton is known to have violently raped at least one woman, Juanita Broaderick, and probably several others, but the NYT White House corespondent offered to give him a blow job instead of negative ink, so long as he kept up abortion support. Let's not even get started on KKK's own Senator Byrd, lionized as he was by the WaPo.

If they don't condemn known rapists, racists and sex assaulters on the left, they have no case on Moore.

274 Well, I would think 2/3 vote would be easy to attain with the GoPe's already calling for Moore to drop out. But does Mitch have the balls to do it?
Posted by: olddog in mo at November 12, 2017 03:05 PM (Dhht7)

If they do that' there's nothing to stop the Governor from appointing him to the now empty seat. Kind of like the way Adam Clayton Powell kept running for and winning the Congressional seat he was excluded from by the Democrat majority.

Interestingly, it is Powell's Supreme Court case against the Dem leadership which will force McConnell to seat Moore.

279 It was the Russkies!

I don't know which is the key word here. Cow? Suc-cumb, pronounced suck-some? To be serious about this he would have to pull in Chekhov. Not Anton -- the Ensign.

I'll bet a ghey male model can easily tell the difference between a Russian and Sulu. IYGWIM.

I am so sorry your Mamaw made flapjacks, we have biscuit made with Crisco and topped with a dollop of bacon grease for our daily allowance of pork. Did I tell you the whole thing was covered with chocolate gravy? Yes gravey, of the chocolate flavor. Sugar, yep, milk, un huh, hershey powder, f yeah. After a breakfast of that we would run around under the oak tree like little black sambo (good book). TTFN
