The Mealy Mouth NFL

A Moron submitted the following letter he sent to Green Bay Packer President Mark Murphy and Mr. Murphy's response to him.

Enlightening.

Dear Mr. Murphy:

As a life long Packer fan, stock holder and season ticket holder I found your statement regarding the National Anthem issue disgusting

(Murphy's statement.)

Football game attendance has always been a highlight. A wonderful stadium, wonderful fans and a good product. The NFL and you have allowed the NFL to become political. I used the NFL to escape politics. But you have changed that.

Republicans, Democrats, Blacks, Whites, Christians, Jews, Men and Women, Straight and Gay, etc. etc. would stand in unity, celebrate our country and Packer Football. There was unity. The anthem has noting to do with race, religion or social justice issues.

You have allowed your players to be more important than the fans, owners and season ticket holders.

Please discontinue flyovers and everything else that is patriotic. The Green Bay Packers have shown their true colors. You really don't care about patriotism and unity.

Sincerely,

(Name withheld for AoS)

Mark Murphy's Response.

Dear Mr. _____________

Thank you for your recent letter regarding the national anthem. We appreciate you taking the time to contact us and share your thoughts. I have received many letters on this topic.

First and foremost, please know the Green Bay Packers recognize the national anthem is an important aspect of our pregame ceremony that allows us to honor our country, as well as the men and women in uniform who make sacrifices to protect it. It's a tradition that goes back many decades, an we teach our players about the importance it holds for the organization and our fans. Similarly, the Packer's support of service men and women also goes back many decades, as does our support of all citizens in uniform who are on the front lines of our protection, including law enforcement and first responders.

Some players in the NFL, including three from the Green Bay Packers, had chosen to peacefully express themselves during the anthem with the hope of change for good with regard to social matters of concern, including racial inequality and social injustice. We feel it is important to support those players as we are fortunate, as Americans, to be able to speak openly and freely. The players are leaders in our communities and are positive influences.

Furthermore, prior to our Week 4 game against the Bears, our players held a meeting to determine how they could demonstrate their support of each other and unity in support of these matters of concern. After a lengthy discussion they dediced to all stand during the anthem for the rest of the season and lock arms to demonstrate their unity. They also reiterated their support of the military. I was proud of the players for their thoughtful approach to an emotional issue.

Earlier this month, NFL Team owners and a representative group of players met to discuss how all of us could further work together to bring attention to the concerns that have been voiced. While the specific plans will be developed in the coming weeks, we all determined that we can utilize our game as a platform to bring attention the the challenges of social injustice, advocate for positive change and engage our communities across the country in discussions that will make meaningful inroads in these areas.

We realize you may disagree with the approach some of the players have taken and our support of this effort. We respect your opinion, but also hope you can understand that no disrespect is meant by standing and locking arms, as it is intended as a way to show support for the cause and unity behind the effort.

Again, thank you for taking time the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate it and hope you can continue to support the team.

Sincerely,

Green Bay Packers, Inc.

Mark Murphy
President & CEO

It appears it's all SJW for the Green Bay Packers and the fans be damned. Then again the Packers are just following the lead of The NFL.

Ask 10 players what the cause is, and get 10 different answers.

Posted by: rickb223 at November 12, 2017 06:49 PM (qcIWB)

35 First off, it is to PUKE.

Second off, "utilize our game as a platform to bring attention the the challenges of social injustice, advocate for positive change and engage our" blah blah . . . that isn't what a GAME is FOR.

I might as well go to get my hair done in a hair salon that "utilizes the salon as a platform" for, well, preaching about anything but hair! Uh, no, I will go to another freaking platform.

Third off, standing and locking arms DOESN'T CUT IT. Why do they not get this?

Fourthly, "I was proud of the players for their thoughtful approach to an emotional issue." What freaking emotional issue? And what the heck does this "emotional issue" have to do with football? And why does the football company believe that they are supposed to deal publicly with players' "emotional issues?"

I might as well decide that on my job as a, let's say, department store clerk, that I'm going to start demonstrating about an "emotional issue" such as domestic abuse. That makes sense, right? I should be indulged in that, right? People will still keep shopping there, right?

And finally, PUKE. They deserve more than ever to be boycotted! Somehow they think these players are so important they need to be coddled and allowed to run the show.

They aren't! Football isn't, even!

Roger Goodell

Complete and utter failure to respect the wishes of paying customers. It's funny but people don't seem to like giving their money to an organization that hates them
A foundational lie nobody had the courage to correct
Fatigue with every single f'n thing in life being politicized by the left
A stupid media
And I also think it came at a time when the NFL may have peaked. The league had nowhere to go but down.

155 You can't serve two masters.

I am in the market for a football game. The NFL is selling social justice. I am not in the market for social justice, so I will not be spending my time and money with the NFL.

It's like being in the market for a car and wanting to buy a new truck, but every truck the dealer sells is painted rainbow colors in solidarity with lesbians and gays. I don't really want my truck to be rainbow colored whether I support gays or not. So I will not buy the truck and will instead by a car or some other vehicle. This isn't very hard.

Now add to that players doing a black power salute or Kaepernick explaining that his entire protest is to Highlight oppression of black people and people of color, then logically who is the oppressor? Martians? Native Americans? It's whites. So why should I pay money to sit and be lectured about how terrible I am? I suggest emancipating all of these players from the evil slaveholders they called team owners by taking money away from them, canceling their contracts, and sending them back to Compton.

243 It's ironic, really. Been a Cowboy fan since growing up in the Southwest in the 60s. While serving in the Navy, on deployments or overseas in the 1980s, I learned i could survive without the NFL. Then, again in the 90s and 2000s, I served in remote, isolated places with the government, again missing large chunks of NFL seasons. So now, ignoring the NFL and my formerly-beloved Cowboys is pretty simple and easy. And total. Have no idea how they are doing, and couldn't care less. They broke the social contract.

Yes I know attendance isn't as important as TV, but it's embarrassing to the teams and the league to see all those empty seats on the TV. It's killing the concessions people. It lowers the home team advantage as the fans aren't as loud. It strengthens the impression that things are falling apart for the NFL.

I remember seeing Jalen Hurts (Alabama QB, appears to be really great kid) salute an ROTC group after a rushing TD when he had stopped directly in front of them. One of the guys saluted back. It was only on camera for a half second and probably not appropriate at some level (I'd imagine saluting is fairly specific between who does it), but I have no doubt he remembered the weekend he was playing and had probably done something veteran-specific earlier.

It was nice to see that compared to an NFL player probably flipping them off.

322 Among the negative consequences Kaplan cited were the exacerbation of racial divisions, the stigmatization of blacks, the dampening of motivation of blacks, and the involvement of the state in racial classifications.

Kaplan wrote that in 1966. (from Skip's Powerline article above about affirmative action). But we're so much smarter than they were.

The thing about those lefty boycotts is, I can't think of one that actually went the distance on a large company and worked. It can devastate a small company or store, but the larger ones have too diverse a clientele. For these multimillion dollar companies, pretty much the only way to lose is to capitulate immediately.

The NFL thing is rather different though. The NFL is actively saying "fuck you" to their customer base, which largely isn't the case with the targets of lefty boycotts.

I had a vacuum one made by Bodum that I loved and that made great coffee, but I don't think it's what you're talking about.

Fascinating, though. Boil water in the bottom, it steams up to the top, mixes with the ground coffee until it cools, and then dumps back down into the bottom pot.

Yum. Mine was electric, but similar principle to the stovetop:

Well you should make the easy choices whenever you have the option. Your coffee maker is an easy one. Most people have no choice about cable, internet, and little id any about phone.

Similar to how lots of people made noise about never buying gm or chrysler ever again after they took the bailout money. until they went on sale.

Can't imagine the heathen Chinee will do anything other than boot them out after an apology or something - that would be SOP any time, but with a very strong president in the US at the moment, no way they'll borrow trouble on something stupid like this.

Of course, much like the situation with the idiot kid from OH who was caned in Singapore back in the 90s, most Americans (well, all sane and worldly ones) would be laughing and celebrating 2 months in jail for those kids who are 2 years away from making millions for playing a stupid game.

Ha. I went to look at a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland(er?) last week. One owner, garage kept, 33K miles Southern car. Three years old and the attractive stitched leather on the dashboard was already bubbling and peeling up.

Great looking vehicle and suited my needs, but I was so glad I didn't need to test drive it or even consider any other Grand Cherokee after seeing that. If you can't get the dashboard to not fall off before five years passes, I don't want to consider what excitement the transmission might bring.

439 A percolator cycles the boiling covfefe back into the basket, extracting as much acid and rich, musky bile flavor as it can before draining back into the reservoir to start over. A vacuum/siphon pot, if you do it right, does one extraction and that's it.

No cable. F**k Comcast.

No movies. No extraneous stuff I can't afford anyway. I do buy from Amazon occasionally (which I hate doing and try to find elsewhere first) so yeah.

I'm not trying to be holier than thou or anything. I'm just saying that the only way we have to fight back at some of these people is to deny them the money that keeps them going. Once they start losing maybe they'll cool it. I don't want to change their minds, just want them to quit using their position to disseminate lies.

I have apparently started a *thing*.

No, I'm not the person who makes noise about never buying something again . . . until they go on sale. And I resent you saying so.

I boycotted Target and I WILL boycott Target for the rest of my days. And that was one of my favorite go-to stores in the neighborhood!

Have you boycotted target? If not, why not?

It's not my freakin coffeemaker. I don't drink coffee. If I did, and wanted a Keurig, I would absolutely and totally not get one.

Daughter long since put it as her gift request. She expects it. She is looking forward to it. I should have bought it already. This conversation has actually helped me to get over my problem with it. I have decided I am going to buy it.

And I will point out that you know exactly zilch about the whole thing as it concerns my decision. You don't know her, you don't know what we've already decided she is going to get, etc.

And you don't know me. You should be glad the issue has even caused me such consternation - indicating that it is obviously NOT an easy choice in this instance - rather than berating me for it.

Plus it is totally ridiculous that they came down on Hannity for even INTERVIEWING that guy. Keurig will get a letter from me regarding that.

But no, I'm not going to prevent my daughter from having the joy she has anticipated and waited for several months now, and you have helped me make that difficult decision. It seems easy now. Thank you, and I'm sincere about that.

452 The thing is there was an unwritten pact between the NFL players and their fans for many years. We were going to pretend they weren't what they clearly appeared to be, and they were going to play along. With the anthem protests, this compact has been shattered. To many, the NFL is now exactly what it appears to be.
