Rand Paul Might Be Out of the Senate for a While Following Vicious Sneak Attack by Bernie Bro Neighbor; Possible Political Motivations?

Rand Paul is facing a "prolonged" absence from the Senate.

The attacker's lawyer claims this had nothing to do with politics.

A protracted convalescence away from Washington, D.C., for the Kentucky Republican could hinder the GOP legislative agenda, just as the party's effort to advance an ambitious tax bill gets under way. The GOP-controlled Senate also has a raft of nominees awaiting confirmation votes and other legislation that leaders are looking to pass. The party controls 52 seats in the Senate, already a slim majority, and GOP leaders are trying to pass the tax measure without Democratic votes.

According to an arrest warrant filed in a Kentucky court on Friday, at about 3:20 p.m., Mr. Paul’s next-door neighbor, Rene Boucher, came onto Mr. Paul’s property and tackled him from behind, knocking him to the ground.

"The unfortunate occurrence of November 3rd has absolutely nothing to do with either's politics or political agendas," said Matthew Baker, an attorney for Mr. Boucher. "It was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial. We sincerely hope that Senator Paul is doing well and that these two gentlemen can get back to being neighbors as quickly as possible."

This NBC News article from 3:05 PM yesterday says that may be it did.

The two men had not spoken in several years and a rift between the pair possibly stemmed from Boucher's distaste for Paul's politics, as well as those of his father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, a source said.

Paul and Boucher also had a previous disagreement about a property line involving a creek behind the lawmaker's house where Paul's sons would sometimes play, the source added.

Well, if I had broken a Senator's ribs in a sneak attack, I think I'd claim my motives were other than attacking him because he's a Senator too. This law seems to make assaulting a member of Congress a federal crime as well as a state one.

The fact that this jerk's lawyer claims the attack was motivated by a dispute over grass clippings may help his client avoid the federal charge, but the fact that this idiot would viciously attack a neighbor over such a minor issue is evidence of his dangerousness. Disagree - I love Japanese food. Trump probably did this as a symbolic gesture, figuring Abe would order the same, so as to be a good host.

Re Bush 41, for several reasons I very strongly suspect he'd had a small stroke when he puked.

First, if he'd known he was about to puke, he wouldn't have done it in his host's lap.

Second, consistent with the above, Bush looked like he blue-screened for a minute before he puked. My landlady in grad school (she was in her mid-70s) did exactly the same thing. In mid-sentence she froze, stared into space for a long minute, then puked. She died later that year from another stroke.

350 >>>This law seems to make assaulting a member of Congress a federal crime as well as a state one.

if the assault resulted in bodily injury, a term of imprisonment for not more than 20 years

Given that several attacks on R lawmakers have happened recently, give him 20 years. This must stop.

The worst outcome would be for it to be tried as something less than a Federal crime.

i) it is released that the guy is a left wing zealot ranting to his neighbors and writing violent fb posts against Republican pols.

ii) this is tried as a simple criminal case, not a Federal crime.

iii) that would broadcast the message that you are free to attack and threaten lawmakers or potential candidates, and you will be let off easy.

351 Springs, all of them will fatigue and break from repeated use. Now good spring design parameters can put that fatigue in to the tens of millions of cycles.

All springs take a set after time. Again good design will allow for that and your magazine spring should reliably push that last round up.

Me I don't keep loaded magazines at capacity for long periods. Two or three shy of full for compression set.

A government that says things like that is almost always in the process of preparing a counter strike that will be even bigger.

American's aren't really paying a lot of attention to what's going on in Saudi, but everything I see tells me that they are openly preparing for war with Iran, and it is going to be a big one. (Step 1 of getting ready for War - eliminate all the enemy agents and threats to your power that are inside your walls - and that is being accomplished)

And if Iran's proxy Hezbollah gets involved (they will) then Israel is going to be part of it too, in spite of their attempts to stay above the muslim on muslim battles.

417 I'm in a subdivision in the Houston area with an HOA. So long as nuts are not in charge, and that's what elections are for, it works out fine. A significant portion of our dues goes towards having local cops patrol the neighborhood, which is a solid investment in my humble opinion. Having lived in Austin previously, there can be a pretty stark difference between HOA and non-HOA neighborhoods. For example, you'd think most folks in an urban environment would eschew livestock. But you'd be wrong. And while I don't set a high standard, I'd just as soon my neighbors occasionally mow their lawns so that their yard does not become a wild game preserve. Again, you'd think this would be a non-issue. But it is without rules.

500 A significant portion of our dues goes towards having local cops patrol the neighborhood, which is a solid investment in my humble opinion.

#1. Your tax dollars usually pay for the cops to patrol.
#2. Every city of any size has zoning codes/rules.
#3. You can fight an HOA. You can't fight city hall. Get a nazi code enforcement officer and he'll make an HOA cry uncle.

I live in a city of 29k just north of Dallas. Part of the city has HOAs, part doesn't. I'm not in it.
Had the city mow my lawn one summer snd charge me $300 due to an over-zealous code enforcement employee.
Had my next door neighbor get fined because he had tires, mounted on rims, sitting next to his garage. Code Enforcement had to stand in bed of truck to look over 6 ft privacy fence to see in yard.
HOA isn't shit compared to that.

And since when does "Cuck" have a racial connotation?

If that's the case somehow, now I understand the anger by Ace about it. But I've always understood it to be a shortening of "Cuckold" which is the guy who's wife or lover is screwing other men.

I don't see how that's racial.

But then I'm old school and use an actual like, Dictionary, to define the words I use. Silly me.

Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That (Back from the Dead) at November 07, 2017 06:48 PM (wd9fW)

Cuckold, per se, is not a racial term, but the term "cuck" is used by White Identitarians (and worse) to mean the White race being "cuckoled" by non-Whites, particularly with White women having half-Black babies. Heck, even "cuckold" has taken on a racial aspect what with most "cuckold pr0n" being White chicks getting plowed by Black dudes.

East Asians have a genetic variant that makes them inefficiently process the alcohol. This was carried over to a good chunk of the Russian population via Mongol rape.

In contrast, some Western European populations have a high percentage of those with the alcoholic gene. This gene allows for a high tolerance as well as a curious feature whereby, in contrast to normal people who can keep a buzz with a certain constant blood alcohol level, those with the gene get a quick intense buzz and then nothing whenever their blood alcohol level is increased and then held steady. Thus, in order to maintain a buzz, the blood alcohol level must continuously increase and the alcohol consumption must go up exponentially.

Hey. We could look at this as a referendum on the GOPe, since Gillespie is one! If he loses, we can claim it's a repudiation of unTrumpers! And if he wins VA, which Trump did not, we can say it's a victory for Nevertrump!

Or we can say it's a symbolic victory for the Tooth Fairy!

601 "Forget it, its New York City. Seriously, what a batch of subnormal intellects in that town."

I resemble that remark.

It's a structural issue. City proper has some rich and a lot of poor. Metro area is more balanced, but don't get to vote for mayor. GOP is dead in the City, and nearly dead statewide.

DeBlasio got elected the way that Lenin and Bolsheviks took over. He's a minority of a minority but had backing from key Black figures and key unions who turnout in the D primary, which is the key to victory. Were it not for Weiner, the relatively moderate Coleen Quinn would have won last go round. (But Weiner helped take down Hillary, so we have that).

Posted by: Ignoramus at November 07, 2017 07:14 PM (cAXIk)

602 Okay, I'm going to say it. Bullshit.

There seems to be an awful lot of leftist assholes out there that are getting a sudden urge to attack peaceful, conservative leaning, people. And I think there is tremendous incentive for the media to hide and obscure this fact - they support these attacks, and have encouraged them with their coverage.

I mean, if you really believed everything the media said about Trump, wouldn't you attack him and anyone who supports him? They call him a Nazi and tool of Putin who is going to launch a war and kill everyone.

I'll predict such attacks are going to become more and more prevalent. Ratchet up. And it will become increasingly difficult to deny what is happening - which is an attempt to intimidate or otherwise purge right leaning thought and people from the country.

Because, you see, we are the one's preventing them from creating heaven on Earth. We are the obstacle. But for us, there would be no hunger, sickness, or want. That is what they believe. To them, we are monsters. despite a 100 years of evidence to the contrary, this time, for sure, socialism is going to work out great.

Posted by: tu3031
________

The flag is just a symbol. It symbolizes our country. When Kaepernick took the knee, his action was symbolic, too. He was expressing the racial disparity of treatment by police. If you think he was showing disrespect, even hatred, toward our country, you're mistaken. He was not.

It's like the other day when I sent someone I know a greeting card congratulating her on the birth of her baby. I wanted to symbolically express my best wishes for the mother and the baby, so I drew a swastika in the card. It's a symbol, and it means health and good fortune. If she misinterprets my symbolic gesture, that's her problem.

652 618 Exit polls are so much bullshit.

Didn't they learn anything last year?

PEOPLE. LIE. Especially conservatives/GOP voters.

Why? Because they fear, I don't know, getting tackled by someone and getting their ribs broke? Or having their car keyed or any one of a number of stuff that happens because the left is quite willing to violate the law when it comes to someone that doesn't vote the way they would like.

I wouldn't give an exit poller the correct color of the sky.

just because.

This.

I wouldn't tell a stranger my politics, especially here in the People's Republic, where leftist nuts fill the freeways.

A liberal acquaintance pooh-poohed leftist attacks on conservatives. I challenged him: "OK, I'll put a Hillary or Bernie sticker on my car, and you put a Trump one on yours. Deal?"

End of conversation.

659 The proper charge against the guy who assaulted Rand Paul:
18 U.S.C. 351(3) ( assaulting a Member of Congress, certain senior executive officials, Justices of the Supreme Court, a Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate, or nominee to the Supreme Court)
Penalties: committed with a dangerous weapon or if personal injury results -- Imprisonment for not more than 10 years.

664 I hope such laws are implemented for potential candidates as well. We can't have good people being intimidated from running for public office.

I agree with an earlier commenter who disliked laws with enhanced punishments for "special" victims. It's flatly un-American. My life is just as important as a politician or a police officer.

Yeah I'm with you guys. A congressman is no better than a bum in America. Worse, sometimes.

668 500 - Thank you for explaining to me how taxes work. I had no idea. (Or you could assume that I know how taxes work, and was saying that we are paying for an increased police presence by hiring off-duty cops to patrol. Sometimes commenters seem determined to read things as obtusely as possible.)

========

That's true in a sense. In another, it frightens me. A majority of 350 million people voted for this administration. And how many people would it take to intimidate 535 lawmakers? (assuming the best case in which all 535 were conservative)
Less than 535, probably. That is scary, that a de facto coup could be accomplished with that few people. I think this should be squashed mercilessly, even if it seems out of proportion. If leftists think they can act like members of an enemy army, they should be treated as such.
