Surprise: John McCain, Jeff Flake, and Bob Corker All More Popular With Democrats Than Republicans

Except among the Meeting of the Concerned, I'm sure.

There’s one way for a Republican senator to earn the approval of Democrats – and the rancor of Republicans – and that’s to criticize President Donald Trump. Senators Jeff Flake, Bob Corker and John McCain all get higher favorable ratings from Democrats than from Republicans in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll.

MeetingOfTheConcerned.png

It's not just about Trump, of course -- it's that all three of these guys have repeatedly betrayed their actual voters.

Their opposition to Trump is just continuing the generalized contempt for actual Republican voters they've long evinced.

As Kurt Schlichter recently declared: We don't demand lockstep obedience, but you better believe we are now demanding some loyalty and will not be content with contempt.

46 Dems are elected because of loyalty to a kind of ideology manifested in loyalty to self. Republicans are elected *in theory* to hold to ideology which ought to require disloyalty to *themselves*, or willingness for self-sacrifice in the sense that a de-scaled government which passes legislation has fewer perks of power.

The pressure of entropy and selfishness, unless a representative is enriching himself on the side rather than directly legislatively, will tend to force shifts toward more selfish politics - read: "leftism"- which is not what they were elected for. Which breeds conflict with the base, which breeds disloyalty and contempt.

One reason jwest's idea of increasing congressional pay/etc. but modifying perks and financial shenanigans immunity is only mostly silly: if an incumbent can get rich without having to legislate themselves rich per se, you might not have as much drift, and you might attract people who like to get rich shadily (crooks) in greater preference to people craving power (crazies).

My presumption is that if Trump told Sessions to investigate the election fixing charges in Donna Brazille's book that Slumber'n Sessions would refuse.

Whatever the left is blackmailing him with has been sufficient to keep him inactive.

If he were to follow through, the Deep Staters in the Justice Dept would kneecap him, and if he were to get an indictment, an Obama judge would throw it out for Trump "prejudicing" the investigation.

That being said, there is NO excuse for the Republican state AGs to ignore this. Fixing elections is against state law as well...

Sessions keeps pulling himself out of any investigation that might remotely seem like he has a conflict of interest or is personally involved, no matter how distantly.

Meuller is staying in to investigate Russian involvement with the election, when its clear that he was part of that very thing. The contrast, I think, will become more and more stark as time goes on.

Meuller should clearly recuse himself from his own damn special investigation. And I believe as more evidence comes out, that will become very obvious.

116 OT/sorry for essay but I think the situation is entering crisis territory

The Sessions thing has moved beyond outsider speculation
frustration or confidence based on limited information. He has basically
"recused" himself from ..... the position of AG. The matters he deems
outside his proper ability to touch make up half or more of the most
important matters before the department.

And, to make things
even more ridiculous, the deputy AG who thereby becomes the de facto AG
for the most momentous cases currently in view is neck-deep in those
*actual* scandals, far beyond the point where he too would need to
recuse himself.

America has never had a criminal AG (two
consecutively), a criminal FBI director, criminal cabinet-level
officials (and likely WH staff and president), and what appear to be
deeply compromised FBI and IC, all working together to some extent,
engaged in acts that - just on current public information alone -
constitute criminal activity.

This isn't even political. This
is about the whole ball game. Sessions and Rosenstein are, technically
and literally, unfit for the most important part of their jobs. Does
Trump or anyone around him recognize the gravity of our situation?

Ugh it is! Especially for meeting the Japanese Prime Minister, she is awfully close to flashing the family jewels in that 60's stewardess skirt. Sometimes she wears outfits that are a little too young for her, I think that one counts.

And the shoes with the bows in the following pics, and that limp looking coat it's paired with...again dressing too young and too Jacquie O twee. Normally I love her style, something's off. She needs to keep it sleep and simple, not wear things too fussy or juvenile. How hard it is to dress you, you are freakin' Ivanka! Step it up lady.

I like the black/white outfit when she's having sushi! But then I can't see the skirt well hopefully it's not a disaster.

Though flattered by being chosen for the award, Wells could not "in good conscience" accept the award. Given the "slap in the face" he feels NFL players have shown veterans by way of their anthem protests.

"Although I am touched and honored to be selected for such an award, the ongoing controversy with NFL players' disrespect for the national flag forces me to decline to participate in the presentation," Wells said in a press release. "Since this award is tainted with the dishonorable actions of the NFL and its players, I cannot accept it."

201 I doubt McCain will run again. There's some question whether he'll even be alive next year.

His race to be identified with Democrats kind of makes sense in a way, though. That's a sure way to be celebrated, lionized, and beloved when you die. Big funeral, all those memorial shows on TV, news casters praising you, statues, etc. If its all about the ego for you, well he never made admiral but maybe this can make up for it.
----------------------------------------------------

The last BIG funeral the country observed and actually mourned was Reagan. Till my dying day I'll remember Katty Carwreck's utter shock and amazement at people coming out and lining the streets dozens deep for his funeral cortege.

No democrat in modern times ever got that kind of respect, and I submit that if Juan thinks the media, conservatives and dems are going to "pay respects" to him, he's freakin' dreamin.'

SPOILERS POSSIBLY

Just that it broke from the format, total standalone journey for Elle. But the Duffers specifically said they saw it as Elle's "Luke going to train with Yoda" moment, and it is crucial for later events she have that moment. So I don't hate it. People also disliked new characters being shoehorned in they have to pay attention to when they'd rather focus on the main cast. Stuff like that. But I thought showing the larger world and setting up possible other plot points for season 3 was good.

In short, people gotta complain no matter what!

311 President Trump on Friday slammed the military judge who spared disgraced US Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl jail time.

Some people think that Trump criticizing the outcome of governmental processes is somehow an issue of "well, it's your government doing this, dummy". To the extent that it *is*, it's corrective guidance *without* direct interference, a way to gull enemies into thinking he has less power than he does, and a highlight that he hires people whose opinions differ from his own.

To the extent it's *not* "his government", it highlights the many, many ticks of the deep state buried in it...

351 Bergdahl had issues before he joined the military. The DD will not be the proximate cause of any hardships he will encounter.

CSM, he wasn't really a coward, He was a Traitor, he was pissed at the US. He went to console and aid the other side.

What they did him afterwards is neither here or there, He was a traitor and Put his unit at risk.

and people were killed because of him.

Posted by: willow at November 03, 2017 02:23 PM

Well he is the leftie's baby now like "Chelsea" Manning and they get to find out how supremely stupid he is. He joined up because he was too weird and dumb to make a living and that will happen again. He got caught hanging around a pot farm so casual labor and drug use is probably his destiny. In a way being on his own may be a worse punishment since he is so dysfunctional and lazy.

Posted by: Lester at November 03, 2017 02:32 PM (LfJIn)

354 I understand people being pissed off about Bergdahl. But let us think about it: Wasn't the last deserter to be shot Private Eddie Slovik in WW2, and even *that* was because he *wrote down his desertion plans* and even *refused to tear them up* when offered that chance?

IIRC, According to historian Stephen Ambrose, there were thousands of deserters in WW2, but they were offered the plea bargain of the lesser charge of being AWOL, and took it, or something like that.

Maybe DD, no benefits whatsoever, and time in the Brig was all we could realistically hope for.

This too is the story of Obama.

356 his dead unit members cannot decide to be lazy after their time would have been up. He chose to Go to the other side.

Posted by: willow at November 03, 2017 02:35 PM (Zmz55)

357 anyway, it's done i guess.
I would hope he would find a way to comfort the families of those that gave up their lives to help him.
but i doubt he would even consider it.

358 "174 they asked for the house, we gave it to them, they asked for the senate we gave it to them.

we warned them with cantor to do as THEY said they would do.
we asked and gave.

this was all quite a surprising and united message and Nothing they hadn't promised to US the the last several years.

Then we Gave them someone that was listening .. Trump.

so they may scream, but they actually have a tool to complete what They had promised,
so they really should for their futures and america's future.
Posted by: willow"

This.
Exactly.

We gave them everything they said they needed, and now they're basically refusing to do the job ?
O rly ?

Only respect for Ace is keeping me from going all Wall of Profanity about this, and everything else today this weekthis year.

And don't get me started on the whole AG thing.
kreplach has summed up my thoughts quite well.

I am satisfied.
If he had got jail time, we would be on the hook for his 3 hots and a cot. And he would be racking up all kinds of vocational training and/or college degree plus medical care. As it is DD and do not let the door hit you in the ass, have a nice life asshole.

361 he military judge (Col. Jeffery Nance) ordered U.S. taxpayer's to pay Bergdahl's fine for him. Think about that. FUBAR

362 Age of consent laws protect post puberty laws. Lots of people lust after young people who have reached sexual maturity at puberty. Pedophilia is a lot weirder, but it needs to be defined, not by age of the victim, or object of desire, but by the status of being pre-pubescent. If pedophilia includes pubescent teens, then we need another word for the desire for pre-pubescents
