MeAgain! Megyn Kelly, Plummeting in the Ratings, Turns Back to Her Favorite Trick: Making It All About Herself

First look at the headline -- which is not NBC just juicing the piece. Those are MeAgain's first words.

You will probably be expecting her to reveal that she'd complained of Bill O'Reilly making unwanted sexual advances towards her.

But no, that's just the clickbait headline talking.

If you bother watching the clip, the complaint to which she refers was a missive to Fox executives complaining that Bill O'Reilly, by stating on CNN that he "wasn't interested" in talking about Roger Ailes' sexual harassment situation because it would tarnish the reputation of his employer FoxNews, was contributing to the "culture" at FoxNews that made it harder for women to report harassment.

Which is a point worth making -- sort of. But she twists O'Reilly's words around --
Bill O'Reilly had said that no one ever complained about his "behavior," obviously referring to sexual harassment, and MeAgain deliberately misinterprets "behavior" to mean "words he said on CNN about not wanting to talk about sexual harassment."

I can't see any other interpretation but that she willfully misread O'Reilly's words to give her old story a fresh news hook, and then cooked her own headline to give it some Harvey Weinstein style heat.

Very cynical.

What begins as a suggestion that she was harassed or molested turns into merely this -- which itself is just cribbed and old news from her dumb book Settle For More:

"I wrote [in Settle For More], in part: 'Perhaps he didn't realize the kind of message his criticism sends to young women across this country about how men continue to view the issue of speaking out about sexual harassment," Kelly said. "Perhaps he didn't realize that his exact attitude of shaming women into shutting the hell up about harassment on grounds that 'it will disgrace the company' is in part how Fox News got into the decade-long Ailes mess to begin with. Perhaps it's his own history of harassment of women which has, as you both know, resulted in payouts to more than one woman, including recently, that blinded him to the folly of saying anything other than 'I am just so sorry for the women of this company who never should have had to go through that.'"

Your headline suggested molestation; your actual complaint is about messaging.

So, so MeAgain.

I'm sure you noticed that she makes herself the Brave Hero of this story by talking up her Secret Crusade for Women.

Again, I think she has a point worth making here. Not a big one, but a point. But she cooks the everloving shit out of this fairly minor story about her complaining about O'Reilly indirectly contributing to women hypothetically feeling uncomfortable in bringing complaints forward into a headline which strongly implies that the story you're about to hear will be about Bill O'Reilly raping or assaulting her.

Nice try, MeAgain. But your schtick of attempting to parlay your endless drama into ratings failed before and it will almost certainly fail again.

That's not to say Bill O'Reilly's a charmer. He's denying it all as a "smear," but the NYTimes reports that he settled a complaint with Lis Wiehl for $32 million, and that complaint alleged "repeated harassment and a non-consensual sexual relationship."

Non-consensual like rape, or non-consensual like "date me and I'll book you on the show more?" The latter is bad -- it's harassment and a form of coercion -- but we can't be sure she's talking rape.

Anyway, O'Reilly denies this, and Lis Wiehl signed affidavits withdrawing her complaints about harassment.

Of course, she seems to have withdrawn those in connection with a $32 million payout.

A lot of people are seizing upon that number and thinking that payout that large means that something must have happened.

Which does not mean that Megyn Kelly shouldn't be called to task for her clickbait self-promotion. The endless drama of Megyn must end at some point.

One MIGHT construe quid pro quo as non-consenting. But that isn't how the law works. Non-consenting sexual relationship would be, you know, criminal, not civil.

78 @53

Sometimes you make a calculation that it's worth your while to pay up and make it all go away.

You're on top of the cable heat.

You have a lucrative and popular book series.

You're selling out of factor gear every month.

Etc.

Man's worth over 100 mil with a contract the pays him millions more.

82 In vaudeville days, they called this "the old badger game." Buster Keaton, for instance, related a time when a young woman came to his dressing room back stage and tried to get his autograph, then after he did so, she started to tear at her own clothes and muss her hair, shouting "for help"; he knew her momma was stationed just outside, and said, "None of that, kid, you're gonna flag your ass outta here quick," and he shoved her out the door.

This racket is as old as the hills. Doesn't make it easier for women who Are harassed, either.

Oh, this whole story is a nonstarter.

Anyone who happens to be female and successful will have everyone else go all mean girl on her and claim she's a bitch, or a harpy, or impossible to work with. And it isn't just the women who indulge in this crap.

I figured that, as soon as the old crusty contractors started calling me "that little filly in the office there," or "that young girl," that meant I was making them live up to their contract and it made them chafe. Getting called a "bitch" was the confirmation of that fact.

That was in the 1980's, and it hasn't changed so much. The words may be different, but the dynamic is the same.

Water off a duck's back.

Just remind them who is holding who's pay request. See how fast they learn to mind their manners.

145 This whole thing arising from the Weinstein allegations, where crude attempts at soliciting sex (sometimes for favors) basically equals either rape or some kind of significant sexual harassment, is utter horseshit. If you are being harassed by someone in the workplace- and I mean actual "He won't take no for an answer" or "my promotion is contingent on a hand job" then there are very clear laws on that and any large company is going to have an HR department to handle your complaints. You can document it yourself as well, and it becomes exhibit A in your suit for wrongful termination (or constructive termination). So all of these Fox News allegations sound mostly like shakedowns, to me.

But this whole "he wanted me to sleep with him for a movie" role = almost rape is utter horseshit. Nobody forces these woman to submit ot this or put up with it. Go find another line of work. Hollywood is sleazy - this is not exactly a spoiler- and you CAN say no to any sleazy producer or director (or whatever) that comes on to you. You might lose the role. You might have trouble getting auditions. If you don't want to put up with it, don't. Go find something else to do. Nobody owes you fame and fortune in Hollywood. I think it was Althouse that said it recently but all of these "Me too" bullshit stories undercut the actual stories (like Weinstein's) where its very likely some of these woman were actually sexually assaulted. Having to fend off bad pickup lines is, for better or for worse, part of being an attractive woman. The sooner you learn how to handle creepos that do stuff like this, the better off you'll be.

183 Maybe she had audio and/or video tape of him. Wiehl is a lawyer, so she obviously knew what he was doing was actionable. Maybe she decided to get him on tape so that it wouldn't be a he said/she said type of dispute. A little legal research on what types of recordings are admissible in NY, and she could have had herself a hell of a bargaining chip.

Ding ding ding. even if not admitted in a legal action, the negative publicity value of leaked recordings of a creepy Mr. OReally offering to loofha her stretch marks would be worth some serious cash.

$32M ... sheesh. Anyway ... he had an audience, but was a New Yorker and an "independent" or something. Much better off with the current lineup as I see it. Was Ailes another Weinstein? Probably not near as bad as that.

Trump had somewhat crude language in private, but about women that LET him grab them ... "star suckers" ... groupies looking to put a notch on their belt. So what?

But now let's talk about things that might really matter ... like selling uranium to Russkies, hypersonic missile tech to Russia, Multi-head ballistic missile capability to China ... nah, not sexy , who cares about that sheet. good grief.

Yeah, I know and i've been calling bullshit on it forever..........except of course when I've gotten pulled for speeding or made a public error. Then I suddenly hae a head full of fluff and a tear. But since I know that's bullshit, I don't fall for it. Women are about 10X more manipulative and scheming than any man. Why anyone fails to understand that is beyond me, must be some sort of prewired thing in men that makes them feel sorry for women when they're "in distress." I know, right? I literally did an eyeroll & decided not to read more about it. Only Jesse Jackson (or Sharpton) could come up with this crap. I'm guessing the powers that be in the NFL reached out to him to try and help with declining ratings.

They really need better PR. If calling fans racists doesn't work, insulting their intelligence with Jesse Jackson's logic isn't gonna work either. Especially that making millions of dollars and being made to stand for the flag is not freedom. Yea, that's gonna get people's sympathy. *eyeroll*

190 Please note that the gossip about Ingraham comes from The Daily Beast, which is not conservative.

Now she might very well be a harridan - or else it might be in the best interests of leftists to discredit every conservative voice in the media they can, especially that of a pro-Trump woman. They would love to dig up dirt on Dana Loesch too.

So - I'm treating this as fake news until I hear reports that are not just "some person said." There are plenty of libs working for Fox too.

198 $32 million. That's rape. No one is paying that much hush money for a couple of dirty emails and comments around the office. That's avoiding prison level money.

200 As to Meghan, she will do any thing to improve her standing with NBC. What I don't like about this is how Meghan is trying to come off as a victim.

Laura Ingraham is a former attorney so OF COURSE she is going to be stressing out over her new show at Fox News. It can't be changed, it's just how female attorneys behave. I've worked with several over the years and they have to fight hard because being an attorney in a "man's world" is tough as hell. In the process, support staff are pretty much stepped on and screamed at. It's just life working with a female attorney. I'm sure her ego is off the chart too....

202 Looks like some readers have never googled "Bill O'Reilly" + "Falafel".

Part of the reason Big Bill has had to settle six suits to the tune of $45 million is that his second settlement (with Andrea Mackris) had him dead to rights. Mackris taped his pervy calls and put the transcripts in the complaint.

The Smoking Gun put the complaint up ages ago. All these years of O'Reilly falafel jokes and some people have known where they came from!!
