Portrait Of A Young Girl (Clara Serena Rubens)
Peter Paul Rubens

I think I am beginning to understand why those high-falutin' art people think Rubens is pretty good.

I mean, he's no Rothko, but then, nobody is....

42 Danm! An absolute cutie pie painted with exquisite skill. I always enjoy Rubens. What a lovely end to the week's art thread.

The brush work and color palette and blending is so effective. Rubens' pose of the little girl, with that direct glance at the viewer, gives the painting vibrancy and life. And I love the bit of the imp he gives her.

If I was looking for a youngster to play Peter Pan, this little girl would be in the running.

Yeah "the economy" is better, but so much is driven by funny money of zero interest rates and the 'global stock market'. So much of the wealth effect is from stocks going up eternally, even under Obama, despite the weak recovery.

Now we seem dependent on markets going up, and we have cratered to global banker demands under threat they would cause a global contagion if we don't let them play their leveraged games (and launder cartel money). TARP and the Obama years only entrenched the globalists further, Hillary was prepped for an open border hemisphere ... too bad, she lost, and we got a reprieve.

At this point, we have to rebuild America (and Europe is worse off, which is under siege, maybe lost, except signs of life in their East). Producers are in less control now, it is the billionaires that bought on leverage and got billions in bailouts, underwritten by all America. Their version of 'capitalism' runs on printing money out of thin air, squashing actual producers (e.g. AMZN losing money for 20 years)

Rebuild, repatriate, make citizens believe in patriotism again, kill the globalist (leftist scam) Utopian dreams ... THEN maybe a normal economic policy. (Trump is now considering keeping Dove Yellen at the fed ... gotta keep the easy money flowing)

Remember Monty and the DOOM threads ... did we really fix anything? It is Americanism versus International Bankers and globalists ... our fate is in the balance.

You are WRONG!

I think the looper review gets it right about why it isn't a blockbuster. It is a long movie. It isn't too long for the movie, but it is too long for the business. It is the right length to tell the story it tells. It may be a little too close to the source material. It gets Blade Runner in ways that fans get it. There weren't all that many original fans of BR, though. It's following is more deep than broad. Someone in the comments described BR as the Federalist Papers of Sci-Fi movies (in response to someone who said they were an SF fan and had never seen BR), which I thought was fantastic phrasing. It does not disappoint fans of the original.

192 "Anyway, the vulnerability of today's market doesn't seem to compare with the vacuous 2008 market, does it? Seems like the best defense is a strong economy." Posted by: Mortimer

today's market has Trump returning to Americanism, corporate rate reduction ... and illegals are leaving the job market (marginally). That gives some real hope for the "economy" returning to real American production, not financial gimmickry.

But comparing to 2008 ... I've read at least our banks are in stronger shape (due to ZIRP stealing from grandma and anyone holding cash for 8 years). I see markets as a Ponzi scheme, but most people stay in and pass the accounts on to their kids. Maybe that is the new normal ... a wealthy investor class with BigGov propping up stocks.

We just have to start getting the elite to buy American, and keep spending their profits on their local economies. But the coastal elite hold the dirty jobs people in contempt.

it's a conundrum ...

But this morning I know that there was one thing that was very significant to me, yesterday - and I know it's an issue that really doesn't matter anymore, and I'm a day late and dollar short on the issue.

But I have been a GWB supporter since 1994. I put out signs for him that year, cheered for him when all the "smart money" said Anne Richards was going to be elected, thrilled to watch his ride from Texas to the D.C.

And then I hurt inside to see how he was vilified and used by a Washington establishment, and always believed he was a good man doing the best he could, even if he was misguided. And when he said nothing during Obama's 8 years, I chose to believe he was just being dignified.

And then yesterday - he comes out with an attack on Trump, coordinated with Obama. I cannot express how disgusted it makes me - disgusted enough that I now curse every ounce of support I sent his way, and disavow any of the thousands of kind words I've said about him.

George W Bush is dead to me. I will never defend him, argue in his favor, or say a kind word about him or anything he did, ever again. I now spit at the mention of his name. Stooge. Clown. Fool.

I saw that too. But I don't think it is an ear, b/c it goes way too far down. And doesn't really connect to the kid's head (I enlarged the painting). So I thought maybe it is suppose to be...I don't know. But that side of his head is shadowed.

Anybody know what that means in English?

It paraphrases this:

GLENDOWER

I can call spirits from the vasty deep.

HOTSPUR

Why, so can I, or so can any man;
But will they come when you do call for them?

GLENDOWER

Why, I can teach you, cousin, to command
The devil.

HOTSPUR

And I can teach thee, coz, to shame the devil
By telling truth: tell truth and shame the devil.
If thou have power to raise him, bring him hither,
And I'll be sworn I have power to shame him hence.
O, while you live, tell truth and shame the devil!

Freddie/Fannie sold America junk bonds dressed up as AAA, Raines and Gorelick made millions, Freddie/Fannie got bailed out, Goldman bribed the SP ratings folks to hold up the rating till they could bail out, at the expense of their investors (see The Big Short) ... no one went to jail.

HSBC got caught laundering $2B for cartels, mishandling a trillion, that is where the International bankers intervened and got our prosecutors (who had already made the case) to back down. They escaped our law, small fine paid by investors (overseen by Lynch), no one went to jail.

That is the realm the Clinton gang and all these globalists are playing in, (Bush and his Saudi pals as well probably) ... and is why big money was all for the HildaBeast (and what loyalty do NeverTrumpers have?). Can see it now: "I took my Ancestry DNA test and discovered that I am only 47% racist (combined Irish and British ethnicity), which is totally blocked out by my remaining 53% being a combination of Native American, Peruvian and Brazilian! I'm going to go on twitter and harass some white nationalists with my newfound cultural superiority! You can't call me a racist - I'm not white!!"

Some big shot exec and his wife built a house here on the edge of town that highly evoked Tara (the mansion in Gone with the Wind for the uninitiated), right down to the columns and long driveway.

We happened to get to talk to the movers who were moving their stuff in. Apparently Mrs. big shot exec had a tee-shirt collection that took up an entire huge walk-in closet.

T'each 's own, of course, but given that kind of disposable income, I… might budget differently…!

IIRC, they lasted in that house about one year before he (along with her tee-shirts, presumably) got transferred elsewhere.

Stooge. Clown. Fool.

Why? Because he doesn't chase the media like Chuck Schumer?

I don't ever remember Sessions being a media whore and his current job is supposed to be done behind the scenes. That's how investigations work or at least that is how they are supposed to work.

I do think a lot of people ignore what his office is doing like prosecuting hundreds of antifa scum along with subpoenaing their records to get at their paymasters and strongly going after illegals and sanctuary cities and then pretend he is doing nothing because it sounds good.

I don't know what his eventual record will be but I think the constant "Sessions is doing nothing but napping!" crap is kind of silly. He was just in front of Congress yesterday and if you read between the lines the DOJ is indeed probing the Russia/Uranium One scam.

I agree with this criticism, and my only defense for overlooking it is that it is so characteristic a trait I don't even notice it anymore with him. It's always been his writing style, insofar as I recall, but I do think it has become heavily tinged with bitterness lately.

I second what Jack is saying. I think people have forgotten after eight years of Obama's DOJ grandstanding every week at the microphone over issues such as demanding women's bathroom entrance for transgenders, sanctuary city blessings, and the weekly listing of lawsuits by the DOJ at police departments, universities and mom and pop stores claiming racism and some new kind of injustice they were gong to put the person in jail for, we don't know what an actual correctly functioning DOJ looks like.

420 But we're the good Danish, the kind you remember from when you were a kid. You know how there's a certain kind that made you all happy inside? All these years you've been disappointed in Danish pastries because it's just that bland sugary plonk of dough you get at the Hampton Inn free breakfast or worse.

When you were a tadpole there was a Danish that was airy and sublime. It was chewy, it didn't have that glaze all over it that gets your hands sticky, just the drizzle of icing, and the fruit...oh my gosh...the fruit was a powerful jolt of blueberries straight to the gonads.

The Danish in the breakroom are better than your first crush, and the bagels are to die for.

While the point is taken, given what we've been putting up with, it's fair to ask for something to help build trust and confidence. Especially since we're all primed to expect that when we hear nothing about things we care about, we're probably going to get nothing--or worse.

It is very mysterious, though, that he is trying to puzzle through cultural issues but misses the essential point that our degraded culture has done much to destroy the economic and social underclass in this country.

Mysterious = incomprehensible, bizarre, unfathomable, baffling, arcane, etc. There's nothing mysterious about KW and his ravings; he's a self-loathing, condescending, smug, insipid twat who was and is dumnfoundingly wrong but his enormous ego won't allow him to admit that. We are still pretty far from a banana republic. Like light years.

My hope is that by electing Trump we will stop the movement toward that scary prospect and doing things the right way is pretty much the way to do that.

I want to get us back to a place where we have a properly functioning government not just one where depending on who is elected we have show trials. Playing the left's game is not going to get us there.

She literally lived in the biggest house in DC. She was well known for her $75k tea set, and other extravagances. As the head of the teachers' union.

It was an open secret that she was skimming the dues of the teachers. Kind of like Weinstein. Everyone knew.

Then she did something bad. She backed a losing candidate for mayor. And, just like that, the FBI investigated her.

And even then her constituency will continue to vote her in. I present example #1, John Conyers, whose wife spent three years in prison for bribery while she was on the Detroit City Council.
Conyers, of course , notes that he had no idea she was taking bribes. They divorced last year after she got out of prison, however Conyers was reelected to the House of Representatives last November by his high IQ constituents in Detroit. Conyers is 88 years old.( Wife that left him had just turned 50)

He is currently representing Detroit.

And what was with that story on Twitter about Bush 43 visiting a family with their son in the hospital with the mother screaming, "why is my son here and not yours?" and Bush is a hero for standing there and then later shedding a tear about it saying, "she was really mad and me and has every right to be." WTF? I realize she was emotional but blaming Bush for a hurricane? And I guess Bush should feel bad for his son not being hurt and that somehow caused her son to be hurt? It's insane. But Bush, and his son seem to have a huge martyr's complex that they also expect their supporters to share with them. Really fucked up.
