Trump Signals He Won't Support Obamacare Insurance Company Subsidies Deal

Meanwhile, most of the GOPe Senators the #SmartSet #NeverTrumpers #SalonHot25 are so enamored with are totally on board with the Alexander/Murray "deal."

Lindsey Graham being a notable and surprising exception -- he says he wants to repeal Obamacare, not prop it up.

I thought I saw FoxNews report Trump signaled that he wanted more reforms, but I don't see this in this article, and i can't swear to my recollection's accuracy. Especially after having my mind blown by that Hillary Clinton reality disjunction.

Trump wrote on Twitter that he was "supportive" of the deal's architect, Senate Health Committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), as well as the Senate process, but said he would "never support bailing out" insurance companies, saying they "have made a fortune" under ObamaCare.

Trump stopped short of saying he would veto the measure, however.

Speaking to reporters later Wednesday, Trump said "if something can happen, that's fine, but I won't do anything to enrich the insurance companies."

91 Trump's initial mistake was taking the Republicans at their word. All he had to do was set up a situation where Obamacare was going to fail without immediate congressional action. Now he gets to detail the terms of saving Obamacare. He'll roll these guys back and forth, and each tick of the clock is Obamacare one step closer to the grave. Dems have to come to the table. Repubs have to listen to Trump. The end is likely to be not great, but much better.

He needs to start collecting all the fines and taxes in Obamacare. And start forcing any exempt groups (like congress) onto the program. Just follow the law and this thing will tear itself apart.

94 It is starting to look like Trump has outmaneuvered everyone on the ACA --- kick the illegal subsidy prop out, and then not approve anything which doesn't move us to a freer, more sustainable system. He can scuttle bad ideas with just a tweet.

Trump doesn't have to put his prestige behind anything and he can watch the Congress twist in the wind as they are forced to come up with something.

There is a good Downfall video to be made here where Bannon is on the outside, and Trump is on the inside providing a pincer movement against the GOPe. Go ahead and go to heroic lengths to save the ACA and see what it gets you guys. Alexander is point man because his career is over and he is not running again. And I was able to skip the humongous Christmas section (which I suspect they have up all year 'round) and two, count 'em, "craft" sections. The craftiest I get is right here on the HQ. Plus, I'm out of Circus Peanuts, dammit. Second look at the tiny baby ruth bars . . .

From what the Daily Mail says, the Church of England has given the official (but not public) okay to the divorcee part.

Now, William has two heirs, and a third on the way, and they'll probably have their own children before it gets down the line that far, so there is practically zero chance Harry would ascend to the throne. If there was, there might still be a problem with a divorcee and an American.

They say QE has completely rethought the whole traditional thing, what with the disaster with her children's marriages. The grand young 'uns seem to be doing much better.

Dean Wormer and thelms are correct, I think.

Much as with the "Dreamers" situation, circumstances and politics are just about entirely in Trump's favor here. In terms of leverage, process, negotiation, outcomes.

I think the administration should have been strategically using the f**k out of the incredible discretion given to the HHS secretary to bring the pain, bring the dissolution, inherent in O-care. From the inauguration, really(recall there was one EO - possibly the first Trump signed - formalizing the non-enforcement of the John Roberts Tax). Even in the run-up to the McCain Treachery, I'd have preferred the admin. to bring the heat on everyone by letting the law's unsustainable self-contradictions start to shine through.

Anyway, here we are. I think Trump should use not just the leverage that the subsidy issue gives him (that he gave himself, with his latest EO), but the law's own written-in discretion. Bring the pain, end the waivers, make as many as people as possible luxuriate in the vile idiocy that is O-care. And let both parties writhe and come begging for mercy.

192 peaches you are in your new home now?

Posted by: willow at October 18, 2017 07:42 PM (FKrah)

193 Anyway, here we are.

________

We tried an easy transition and the problem is too many people were just fine with their heavily subsidized health insurance.

Once the Free Shirt Army starts paying out the nose, I see many fence sitters finally getting the picture.

And ObamaCare is totally on Obama and Democrats, the idea that Trump not continuing a subsidy the courts have even said is illegal is not going to absolve Democrats.

Yup...the only worse candy are those black or orange wrapped peanut tobacco flavored goo like fudge stuff.

No labels, so who ever makes them keeps it on the down low.

I don't think they even have a name.

224 I wouldnt mind this deal so much if it was an actual deal where borh sides give up something and get something in return. But it's not a deal at all it's one-sided Dems got everything they wanted Republicans got f*** all. And yet laughably in the MSM it's a bipartisan deal. No it is not it is a cave a 100% cave by one side and a 100% win by the other

Posted by: #neverskankles at October 18, 2017 07:51 PM (ZNNCe)

225
Maritime, no comprendo. The number of people ruinously affected by O-care (individual and some small group markets) exceeds those on subsidized plans (up to a third of those may be O-care "refugees" who were priced out of their market but finagled income levels to get the subsidy - I know several in this category). There was no political imperative for O-care - despite nearly two decades of Dem pushing (it all started with a special election to the Senate in PA, in the early 90s). It's not "popular" now. It's small, and shrinking.

The problem is people like you, and the 80%+ of the market, have never really felt the effects. I see the hilarious comments here about "12% increase!! eleventy!!" and just shake my head. As I say, if people on group/employer plans felt 1/3 the pain of the others, the thing would have been repealed within a few months of the hammer falling in Jan. 2014.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that black men will not vote for a black woman for President. There isn't a a lot of respect shown for black women in the "culture". I doubt that it will translate into votes.

Just my humble opinion.
