Eesh: Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray Reach "Tentative" Deal to Start Subsidizing Obamacare Insurance Companies with Taxpayer Money Again; Trump Signals He May Support It

Another "bipartisan victory" on the horizon. Huzzah!

Well, supposedly, the GOP is getting a few small t hings out of the bargain to give Democrats everything.

Alexander said he’ll present details of the package to Republicans this week. Along with the insurance subsidies, the package would give states new flexibility on how their Affordable Care Act markets are run. It will also encourage states to meld their markets together, and let more people buy low-cost, limited-coverage plans.

Obstacles to the proposal are already developing in the House. Representative Mark Walker, who heads the conservative Republican Study Committee, said that GOP lawmakers should be focused on repealing Obamacare, not propping it up.

"This bailout is unacceptable," the North Carolina lawmaker said in a tweet from the committee account.

Hear, hear.

Are they going to have the CBO score the bailout? Or do only people seeking to repeal Obamacare have to submit to the CBO for scoring?

So we keep afloat this monstrosity with more taxpayer money (which, of course, we were told we'd never have to do -- Obama promised), and in return we get... some small leeway of state tinkering. Allowing people to buy limited-coverage plans.

Here's the thing: People are already buying limited-coverage plans. They're just paying full coverage prices for them -- because they're forced to subsidize so many others with their own premium payments.

So, the GOP has thrown in the towel and is keeping Obamacare.

I think the GOP has made it pretty clear, especially on the Senate side, that they were lying when they said they wanted to end Obamacare.

I guess they just want to keep it and pour more taxpayer money into it.

Trump's complicit in this, too -- but then, with John "The Hero" McCain tanking the last shot at repeal, I'm not sure what is left to do here.

And given that he only recently became a Republican, he doesn't know what us long-timers know-- that the GOP lies. Always. And it doesn't believe in any of the things it claims to believe.

Night! Imma lift some weights for the first time in two weeks. (I mildly sharted myself doing squats last time and it rather put me off them. TBH, I feel pretty sharty right now not even doing them but I'm gonna take some loperamide and just hope for the best.)

20 I blame almost every wing of the GOP for the failure to repeal ObamaCare.

Trump fucked it up from the get go when he promised all the goodies would stay in there after winning.

Then there was the Cruz/Rand TruCon types that wanted a clean repeal (as do I) but didn't have the votes, so they killed anything resembling reforming it. Which means we get to keep the status quo

And then there are the McCain types that just want to shit on Trump's Presidency.

123 Can I just say something I might regret? I'd rather be slapped in the face than punched in the dick.

And that is what I have been getting with Obamacare, punched in the dick. Over and over. This bullshit, illegal, monetary handouts to insurance companies are crap. So instead I'll gladly take a few minor concessions for a temporary LEGAL fix. Oh and next time this comes up? Maybe I'll take a few more concessions. Want a permanent fix? then the Dems better prepare for me to punch them back, right in the dick.

I think Trump is crazy like a fox here. So far on obamacare the dems have had to concede nothing, ever. All benefit, no pain. Make them start earning it, at least a little.

Also, Trump needs to get rid of all the exceptions to Obamacare. You know, those states, unions, and big corporation Obama illegally declared exempt. Oh, and start collecting those fines. They want this piece of shit - give it to them good and hard. Then we can compromise on fixing/repealing the law. With a little luck, the whole thing will devolve into a on-line insurance exchange - like car insurance, where you can pick and choose your level of coverage and carrier.

House Democrats have introduced a number of new gun control measures in the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Among the proposals are HR.3962 to ban online ammunition sales, H.R. 4025 requiring gun dealers to report the sale of two or more rifles to the same person in a five-day period, and HR. 4052, which would ban magazines able to hold greater than 10 rounds.

180 And let me explain it even better - I'm sick of the bullshit where congress gets exactly what they want, but never actually has to win a vote or debate it.

This is a rampant problem in this country. Judges make rulings on what they would like the law to be. The president signs expansive executive orders. The agencies play the sue and settle game.

All of this makes congress increasingly dysfunctional - a bullshit debating society. Why do they need to stick their necks out, when the president, judges, or administrators will do their dirty work for them? It also makes all of us powerless and angry - we can't do anything to stop it. Congress gets to pretend to be on every side of every issue, all things to all people, and utterly useless. It is tyranny - a soft, bubble wrapped tyranny, but tyranny nonetheless.

Slap me in the face, don't sucker punch me below the belt. At least then I have a chance to block, or counterpunch, or whatever. At least I can look my opponent in the eye, and spit in his face.

There's a certain sound always follows me around

There could be no other for their love

It's my happy shart you hear
Singing loud and singing clear
And it's all because you're near me, my love
Take my happy shart away
Let me love you night and day
In your arms I wanna stay, oh my love

Feeling more and more like I've never felt before
You have changed my life so completely
Music fills my soul now, I've lost all control now
I'm not half, I'm whole now with your love

It's my happy shart you hear

And it's all because you're near me, my love
Take my happy shart away
Let me love you night and day

What he said is obviously true - and everyone knows it. Of course, it never could have happened, anyway, because white people were the only ones touring around the globe doing stuff like colonizing new continents.

Well ... the Chinese could have done it but they always had a thing about leaving China. When they got a super navy together and sailed to Europe the first thing the new emperor did when they got back was burn all the ships and tell them to just sit down and shut up. Thank G-d, because they could have whipped everyone's ass.

Sobibor closed in 1943 after an insurrection by the prisoners where the killed several guards and some escaped;

Just in time to willow, but ....

If IrishEi is still here, a good *first* website to check for ammo is ammoseek.com.

Excellent shopping bot that shows current prices/availability (and includes a handy index of comparative shipping cost, which is key).

Many of the sites mentioned up above by other Morons will show up on any searches. But if you're maximizing round/$, go through the process of doing "dummy" orders at each of several sites that appear cheapest, in cost/round. That way shipping (and if you're in the same state, taxes) will be included and you'll have your ACTUAL cost.

I cannot agree. Part of everyone's anticipated diet should include 4 or 5 bags of their favorite candy bar in .00023 ounce servings.

That's okay and won't hurt you. It's when you buy 4 bags a month early, eat it all in a week, run out and buy 4 more bags, munch it down in a couple of days ...

and then on Halloween don't answer the door because you don't feel like giving away any of the last 4 bags you just bought the day before.

It's bizarre that Trump is so focused and clear-thinking and tough on other things that are key to America's prosperity - trade deals, regulatory burden especially absurd "environmental" crap - yet has been positively blase about health care costs, which dwarf all the other burdens.

His only "red line" to date (AFAIK) - there can be no more real insurance, because "pre-existing condition coverage" MUST be in any bill he signs. That is, real insurance must be diluted, burdened, and rendered far less efficient and affordable because a welfare element MUST be crammed in there. Instead of treating it separately, as a welfare/safety net item, which it is.

Not gonna do an extended taffy yank over this again, but the administration has been very passive, from the get-go, on this particular (yuuuuge) issue, and after a few weeks (at most) of a promising "phased repeal" strategy being discussed, they just sort of went silent. Without giving the phased repeal any teeth, substance, or credibility (hello, former Sec. Price!), easily done with the enormous discretionary power under the law.

There are millions who now cannot afford, or only at ruinous burden, to buy the frankenstein "insurance" that is allowed to be sold. We're talking 500% increases over the cost pre-O-care. Mortgage payment size. They have simply been abandoned. It's amazing.

Washed down with one of those Mexican-brewed Cokes made with pure cane sugar that you can still get in a glass bottle, because our country is so fucked that I have to buy an American-owned product produced by a foreign subsidiary just so that I can get a drink with pure cane sugar instead of corn syrup in a glass bottle instead of a crappy plastic bottle.

CaliGirl those "cost sharing" arrangements under religious aegis are allowed in CA (they are allowed under ACA) - one of the few workarounds. Otherwise, unhealthy people with terrible behavior and horrendous medical histories - but who happen to work for a company with a group plan - have seen hardly any changes, while incredibly healthy responsible people with the temerity to be independent in their work face mortgage payments for bare-bones "insurance".

But shhhhh - it's a secret. Not even the president is cleared to know this particular factoid (which applies to more people than are even enrolled in the O-care disaster itself).

Oedipus, wrong on all counts (on O-care, not candy!). I have yet to find anyone on a group plan who has noticed much difference; individuals have been literally priced out of the market - there isn't the remotest comparison between the two categories. So, no, not a "shit sandwich all around" - catastrophic impact on millions, little discernible impact on most.

And there's nothing magic about repeal being impossible. It's not. Trust me, if most people here or in the country faced what millions in the individual market faced, it would have been repealed in a month. Tell me you're going to impose a $10-20K surtax on 180 million people, out of the blue, and get away with it. Nope. But 15 million? Yep. But still - very "repealable".

That is even difficult to repeal is a reminder of how degraded the country - the electorate, not just the GOP - is. Not a country, really.

Freeze it, pound it, and put a piece between cheek and gum. It took a loooong time to soften and disappear. Then get the next piece. Done right a bar would last most of the day.

Haven 't had any in many, many years.

'Cause at this age the stuff'd suck all the fillings right out of your teeth in nothing flat.

634 "Trump's complicit in this, too -- but then, with John "The Hero" McCain
tanking the last shot at repeal, I'm not sure what is left to do here."

Hopefully, Trump is not complicit but what is left to be done is to let the whole stinking mess collapse on its own... WITHOUT bailouts of anyone.

637 Patty Murray is so dumb, that here in Washington state, when one takes a hike in the woods of the Cascades, many false sightings of Patty occur.

They aren't Patty, they are stumps.

638 Try lunges instead of squats Ace. Trust me, your thighs, hams, and glutes will burn. Be careful to start slowly otherwise you will have trouble sitting on the throne to complete any sharts.

Power lifts - Squats, Bench Press, Deadlifts - are best left until 3 or 4 months of proper training have strengthened your body for the heavy lifting.
