Monday Night Football Ratings Fall to Season Low
[A]s social media sparked with ESPN not showing the playing of the national anthem, another type of history was also being made: Last night's primetime broadcast of the Titans' 36-22 victory stumbled to a season low with a 6.1 in metered market results. In a season stained by overall ratings declines and political controversy, that NFL Week 6 rating is down 13% from the early numbers of the much tighter October 9 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears. That MNF season low went on to deliver a 3.7 rating among adults 18-49 and a total viewership of 10.3 million. It's worth noting that the peek of last week's MNF came at halftime on the Disney-owned cabler when the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer debuted. Year-to-year, last night's MNF dipped just over 3% in the MM [major markets, I think] results from the Arizona Cardinals' 28-3 demolition of the New York Jets on October 17, 2016. With a rating that matched the Jets score, that demo season low eventually landed with a 3.0 among the 18-49s and 8.4 million viewers, an almost audience bottom.

I hate how people bring up the 1st amendment when someone's speech is being criticized.
Speaking generally, not in reference to the specific comment, but it just made me think of it. You see it a lot from center right columnists who want to seem reasonable about the protests.
No one is talking about government action to shut people up.
We should be able to have discussions criticizing each other for what we say without having to invoke our belief that people have free speech rights protected by the 1st amendment.

SCOTUS didn't decide the last case because it was mooted by the expiration of the temporary travel ban order.
Now that the Trump administration has put the permanent travel order in place, SCOTUS can, and undoubtedly will, decide the case.
I just hope that when it does, it will put these hack district court judges in their place -- and their place is NOT making federal immigration policies, which is what these jerks have been trying to do.

Football will eventually become some kind of semi-contact sport that nobody cares about. University education will become worthless, except for the STEM fields. The cost of becoming an engineer will skyrocket, while the cost of becoming a philosopher will become akin to that of becoming a farrier - a small, inexpensive niche.
Liberals are changing our world, that's for sure, but not all of it is bad. There will be new outlets for our entertainment and new outlets for education and new vacation spots that liberals haven't ruined, etc.

That's about where I am too Donna. I always like football better than baseball though (hubby is the opposite). I stopped watching football last year. This year it's been a cakewalk without it and I don't really know if I'll go back if they clear up their act....which isn't hard, don't really have a team to root for anyway.

The thing is, the financial effect is just beginning to manifest itself. There are contracts and financial commitments that the league literally cannot meet with support at its currently depressed level.
Without a sudden reversal, even staying where support current is, the NFL could be hurting very very badly for years to come. Think of ESPN's television contracts as an example.

NFL Gets (More) Political, Endorses Sentencing Reform Bill
"We felt that this was an issue over the last months, as we have continued to work with our players on
issues of equality and on issues of criminal justice reform, that was surfaced for us, and we thought it was appropriate to lend our support to it," NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart told reporters."
