Oh, he was talking about the five Gitmo high valued terrorists he released in exchange for Bergdahl. Easy mistake. Posted by: WisRich at October 16, 2017 03:40 PM (G0vdT) 13
There were a lot of things that Obama did that you really can't come to any other conclusion than the man simply hated America and also had some weird camaraderie with Muslim extremists. See also airlifting hundreds of millions in cash to Iran as another example. Or wanting a mosque built where the WTC went down on 9/11.
I used to roll my eyes when conservatives would make the charge that Obama was a closet Muslim, but I really don't think that's such a crazy charge anymore. Posted by: Maritime at October 16, 2017 03:40 PM (G/kZc) 14

Oh wait - it's 2017, and we are now a country where the worthy, righteous, productive, and reasonable struggle to keep one nostril above water while the entire mass of rotted institutions, collapsed standards, and moral decay pull them down into the abyss. Isn't desertion potentially a capital offense under the UCMJ?
I am going to pull a guess out of my ass and say the weenie sentence for desertion is based on peacetime desertion, which is... obviously less serious. There may be a more severe form of the desertion charge, or that may be covered under the misbehavior charge... which I kind of assume came along later as a catch-all because there are all kinds of things 2LT Slapnuts can do to get people killed in combat that aren't desertion and can be deliberate. Posted by: Sporkatus at October 16, 2017 03:44 PM (HtLSE) 42
Oh - and yes, however it's done, THIS is one of Obama's atrocities that really demands extensive review, reminding, ball-spiking, vitriol, vituperation, etc etc. The Rose Garden insanity. The catastrophic, despicable prisoner exchange. All of it. Alas, with only one very busy president and his twitter account, apparently, in the entire country to provide top-level, public figure action in this regard, another opportunity for punishment and education will be missed. Posted by: rhomboid at October 16, 2017 03:45 PM (QDnY+) 43
Only 5 years for desertion and life for misbehavior?
That sounds reversed. Desertion used to be max of death if in combat. (only general court could apply) And a confession MAY indicate a deal. Why confess if you're going to get the max anyway? The military wants this to go away because Bergdahl did have a point about things being done wrong. Just not the way to go about pointing it out. Plus probably some drugs or mental aberration from being in the sandbox for so long under threat. Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That (Back from the Dead) at October 16, 2017 03:45 PM (xq6Dg) 44

41 Isn't desertion potentially a capital offense under the UCMJ? I am going to pull a guess out of my ass and say the weenie sentence for desertion is based on peacetime desertion, which is... obviously less serious. There may be a more severe form of the desertion charge, or that may be covered under the misbehavior charge... which I kind of assume came along later as a catch-all because there are all kinds of things 2LT Slapnuts can do to get people killed in combat that aren't desertion and can be deliberate. Posted by: Sporkatus at October 16, 2017 03:44 PM (HtLSE) UCMJ Article 85 (c) Any person found guilty of desertion or attempt to desert shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, but if the desertion or attempt to desert occurs at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct. I think you could, but you'd need to go back to the original blueprint. Take great character actors with a strong, charismatic lead. Give the writing to smart, interesting sci fi authors. Make the show a Twilight Zone in space mixed with a WW2 Submarine drama. Keep the tech limited, so they can't jargon their way out of trouble. Focus on great, memorable characters. The separate issue of the outrageous and almost certainly blood-soaked prisoner trade is something that some public figure should take on, but as noted above, we are a country without public figures of any stature, responsibility, or courage. Once the sentence is given, undue command influence becomes a moot issue (correct?), so denouncing one of the worst things done by Obama should be a task energetically embraced by someone. was mentally unfit. He'd already been booted out of the Coast Guard. Does not excuse his actions. Just saying that the Army has no standards -- which is also how that commie, Che-loving, "f*ck America" shitbird Rapone graduated West Point and was awarded a commission. Because the Army has no standards. . . .You would not believe how easy it is to get into the Service after you have been kicked out from one branch. I had a guy who enlisted and served three years before being kicked out for Personality Disorder. He waited about a month and came right back in the Navy. He got discovered during Boot Camp and kicked out again for fraudulent enlistment. The sucker got some Recruiter to lose some paperwork for him and he came back in again a few years later and managed to stay in for 14 years that time. The only reason we caught him that time was DFAS ran some old pay tapes and came up with a discrepancy in his PEBD based on his service from the previous enlistments. Once I started looking at his online master file everything was there. Heck I even signed some of his intake stuff at Great Lakes the first time he was in almost 20 years in the past. No one looks at those documents that get put into the Master File at BUPERS unless something or someone makes them do it. It is easier than you think to enlist if you have been kicked out of the Service before. Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at October 16, 2017 04:15 PM (+Dllb) 198

That Yahoo article. It fails to mention that people died looking for him, and fails to clarify why he thought deserting his post would be the easiest way to contact other commanders. But it does get in a good slam against the President:
President Barack Obama, who approved the Taliban prisoner swap that brought Bergdahl home in 2014, said the U.S. does not leave its service members on the battlefield, but he was roundly criticized by Republicans. Campaigning for president, Donald Trump suggested Bergdahl would have been executed in a previous era. Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at October 16, 2017 04:19 PM (/qEW2) 217
You never leave a man behind ever.
But if that man deserted and faces these types of charges, he should face life in prison. The consequences were that men were killed an injured in the search. Five terrorists were freed to kill more Americans. Those facts will come out in the hearing later this month. That and the fact the prosecution and defense did not strike a plea deal (and vehemently disagree) does not bode well for this turd. Shame. The explanation for Obama's behavior is really simple - he is not a traitor, or a closet Muslim, or any of those things. He is a huge narcissist.
To get elected he promised to close Gitmo - in fact he ran on that issue. When he got into office he realized he was talking out his ass. But Obama, being Obama, can't be wrong about anything ever. He couldn't just say "this is a lot more complicated than I thought" and forget about his promise. He tried to get the Gitmo guys transferred to the U.S., which would technically close Gitmo. But he couldn't do that either. Then he came up with a typically lame-brained Obama solution - exchange Gitmo prisoners for captured Americans. That was his half assed plan. That was why he traded five of the worst for Bergdahl - he doesn't give a shit about Bergdahl - never did. That is why he lied about Bergdahl's service record. It is also why he started just releasing some of them. Naturally he failed, because, well, it was a stupid plan. He doesn't hate the U.S. - he just doesn't care one way or another if something is good or bad for the U.S., just if it makes Obama look good. To the extent anything made Obama look good he was all in favor of it. Iran - same thing - it made him look good to get a deal. So what if it was a shitty deal? He got lots of ass licking from the press over it, which is all that mattered. Paris accord was the same thing. On and on - if you simply recognize that Obama thought he would look good doing it, every single policy decision makes perfect sense. Posted by: Dean Wormer at October 16, 2017 04:23 PM (fftfA) 235

263. Are you? Nance felt under obligation to comment that TGE would not affect his judgment re: Bergdahl. If he's made any statements that the full-on press from Barry's team for Bergdahl would, similarly, leave him unaffected, I'm not aware of it. Now, if you wanna drag Fidel into it, that's your business, not mine.

We will see. But the idea that this guy could get anything less than decades in prison, considering what he did, is sickening, and alarming. The Manning debacle is outrageous enough. Yeah yeah not the military but the jaw-dropping wholesale flouting of the Espionage Act by the Clinton cabal at State - with impunity - all these things do add up to a pattern. A pattern of outrageous criminal behavior, violation of the most serious laws we have, with a body count as a consequence - and no accountability, noor mild punishment. Remember the female general who effed up management at Abu Ghraib, then went on a f***ing speaking tour (!) to defend herself, rather than retire in disgrace as anyone in her position would have done in all previous generations of the military? THAT is the vacuum of integrity and standards that appears to have seeped in from the civilian society. Every time there is no harsh (even vicious) push-back, it is discouraging. Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at October 16, 2017 04:27 PM (+Dllb) Well hell, with no criminal background, maybe he's back in ! ! ! . . .Nope, DFAS flagged his SSN as unpayable the last time which is something that they were not capable of doing the second time he came in due to some antiquated computer reasons. I guess he could come back in under a different number though, but that isn't my problem now. Posted by: The Great White Scotsman at October 16, 2017 04:34 PM (+Dllb) 289

Obama is either an atheist or an agnostic. He has no other 'god' higher than himself. His actions are just because he is a post modernist who despises Western Civilization. He once said his own conscious defined what sin is; these are the results of that view point.
