The Morning Rant: J.V. Edition

I just heard from OregonMuse's son, who tells me that his father is comfortable with sharing some details of his temporary hiatus from AoSHQ.
Several days ago OM fell and dislocated and broke his shoulder. Ouch! The catalyst was a medical issue that has been identified and will be managed. Luckily, OregonMuse seems to have married quite well (and above his station) and his wife sprang into action and got him squared away.
His shoulder requires surgical repair, which is hopefully happening as you read this. One-handed typing while stoned on painkillers is reserved for ONT writers and commenters, so it may be awhile before OregonMuse returns to the blog. But please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, or at the very least a toast of something good (maybe the Valu-Rite Gold Label) in his honor.

Getting back into decent physical shape (not overweight just sloppier than I used to look)...and lifting again.

Didn't even come remotely close to pushing it and purposely lifted very light amounts to slowly get back into this.

It varies, men who have had to struggle with ill health their whole life are much better patients than ones who are generally strong and healthy. Its very frustrating to be crippled by weakness when they are ordinarily strong, so they kinda take it out on others.

Men go through all kinds of physical pain in their youth, bashing knees and scraping, cutting etc. We find out pretty early what we can take and how while it might hurt now it goes away pretty fast, so we can keep going. Being sick is something many never experience to find out how you can get through it and how to deal with it, so it feels bigger and worse than it really is.

This. When we were leaving the ER, the meds they had given me for pain were wearing off, and it felt like there was a blow torch on my face. Before we pulled away, I asked my husband if they had given him a scrip for pain meds, and he had to run back inside and ASK THE DOC FOR ONE.

Jeebus. Badly torn up face, broken facial bones, and he HAD TO ASK THE DOC. I was several months recovering, and was given enough pills to get through a week. I ended up cutting them in half and trying to wait until the pain was getting really bad before I took one. I couldn't chew anything for nearly a month.

I'm all for doing something about the opiate problem in this country, but I do believe some doctors go completely overboard, out of fear of the government, I guess.

There might be 4 holes in the tablecloth and one hole in the wainscoting behind the cart. The height of those holes combined with the height of the ones in the double door would suggest that the gun was fired at a fairly downward angle and the impacts on the floor would be 30 or 40 feet from the double door.

325 Lego movies are cheap as hell to make, since there are only a few points of articulation, no expressions to show beyond cartoon lines, and everything is blocky and easy to render. So yeah: big moneymaker. They waste a lot of money on big name actors for voices, because nobody can really recognize their voices unless they are super distinctive (like John Wayne or Christopher Walken). Just using good, unknown voice actors would earn them even more money and still pull in the viewers. Everyone knows the writers get paid crap.

McCain was at an event in Philly last night. Local Philly all news station said he looked gaunt, described him as wearing a sweater under his suit coat. Usually that doesn't work because it adds bulk. But if McCain is shedding the weight, that's a definite sign.

The drip was just saline. And, it works faster then drinking water - but does the same thing. Keeps you hydrated, which somehow lessens the pain. Not really sure about the mechanism on that, but it definitely works. I had mine (~4.5mm) stuck in the utera (sp) for more than a month before they rotorootered it out. I tried everything. Doc greenlighted light beer, drank shitton of Stella

348 The Vegas shooting is becoming an outright mystery and as such we should all be allowed to speculate. So here are my musings:

Paddock was reputed to be allergic to almost everything and was obssessive about chemicals.

My thinking is that there were millions of Americans who were not allergic and even thrived among the chemicals that make life convenient in contrast to Paddock who could not tolerate them.

Paddock apparently lost weight shortly before the shootings which might indicate a life threatening disease that nevertheless gave him enough time for resentment of the non-allergic population who insisted on surrounding themselves and everyone else in the modern chemically-laden world.

QED he felt entitled to exact revenge on the rest of the population. Scoping out various concerts gives weight to this theory that he hated everybody.
