Adam Kredo: Trump Will Not Declare the Iranian Republican Guards a Terror Organization; Obama Holdovers Said to be Blocking Any Move to So Declare Them

Good piece by Kredo. I personally would put more blame on Trump, though: Yes, the Obama holdovers might be resisting him, but I didn't know when we elected this tough-guy we were really getting a pussy who let his subordinates walk all over him.

The Trump administration will not commit to designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, Iran's elite fighting force, as terrorists, despite a congressional mandate to do so by the end of the month, according to multiple U.S. officials and other administration insiders who told the Washington Free Beacon that holdovers from the Obama administration are working to stymie the effort.

While President Donald Trump is expected to announce this week that he will not certify Iran as in compliance with the landmark nuclear deal, it remains unclear if he will follow through with congressionally approved plans to extend a terror designation to the IRGC, a move that has prompted Iran to threaten greater attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East.

The IRGC is responsible for numerous terror attacks on American troops over the years and has played a key role in interfering with U.S. operations in Syria. A bipartisan consensus in Congress has already backed such a designation, but key Obama-era holdovers and top national security officials who have the president's ear are urging him to refrain, according to multiple sources who spoke to the Free Beacon.

Yes, they're giving him bad Obama Holdover advice. But he's accepting that bad Obama Holdover advice.

59 Ever see the brit comedy Yes Minister or Yes, Prime Minister?

Highlights all the interference the lower level peons can create just by slowing their work or other delaying tactics. Let alone if they take actual outright hostile action.

Many of these people can't be fired or firing them would leave the position unfilled and making more work for someone else thus creating a slow down in and of itself.

The worst thing that ever happened in government was the unionization of the bureaucracy. Even Roosevelt was against it when it was tried while he was President.

It's provided the peons with a stranglehold on the reins of government and the salaries rise every year and no one gets fired no matter what they do or don't do.

For certain values of "elite", yes. They're more of a (like the SS) Regime Force, loyal not to the country but to the leadership (i.e. personal Loyalty oaths to Hitler were required in the SS) . All the trendy strong-man regimes have one. They're the ones that go to the wall when the people try to depose the leaders, since the leaders can't always trust the regular military. Hussein's Republican Guards served the same purpose. Iran still has a regular Army and Navy, but the IRGC and IRGCN get a large share of what they would normally have.

If we meet them on the battlefield in a conventional attack, then I suppose they would be treated appropriately. If they're caught un-uniformed and sabotaging our stuff, then they'll be treated as spies and saboteurs. Recall we put to death as spies every German infiltrator in WW2.

Uniforms do not protect you from war crimes or other prosecutions, they just (technically) remove you from the immediate tribunals authorized under Geneva for illegal combatants.

And I think the predecessor agency of the KGB that first used uniforms was the MGB, under Abakumov, who started the military-style stuff as head of SMERSH during WWII. The famous leather coat informal "uniform" of the Chekist started under the founder, Dzerzhinsky, but only by chance - he got his hands on a big shipment of long leather coats that had been produced for the Imperial Russian army.

Pasdaran (IGRC) does/does not wear uniforms, depending. And to simplify but only a little bit ....

IGRC = Hezbollah = certain Iraqi Shi'a formations = Syrian regime, in terms ofoperational situations in different places, and overall, strategically.

And Syria's alignment, which has morphed into much more, with Iran (itself an unprecedentedlinking of Arab and Persian, Shi'a and non-Shi'a powers), is a main reason thatthe Syrian regime is,in fact, an adversary - for us, and for our partners and cooperating states.

Money makes all clear and often makes bedfellows of the strangest partners.

Iran is sitting on a shit ton of oil but until the Iran deal they had no way to sell it because of the sanctions. Syria has deep water ports in the Med with easy access to Europe. Russia, who fought the original implementation of the sanctions and worked doggedly to undermine them, is a gas station/gas broker masquerading as a country.

The plans for a pipeline from Iran through northern Iraq and onto the ports of Syria has been on the table for years, since before the Iraq war and with Russia's sponsorship and most importantly money a partnership was born. As usual, follow the money.

158 Amen to this. I can definitely tell the job market is tightening. Also, it is harder to find people willing to work beyond 8 hours of a certain age. Seen a lot of kids walk out on a good job with benefits because it did not stick to a straight 8 hour schedule- in manufacturing!

My husband has been lucky. He's had no problem finding employees with IT experience, and he tries to hire veterans. He has a great team, and offers them healthcare, including dental. He had one guy leave to go to S. CA at his sister's urging to flip houses, something he had no experience in whatsoever.

We've hired 3 Air Force veterans and they didn't work out.
I don't recall why. It's really hard to find good employees.
1 was a sales assistant and he just wasn't getting it. The other two we used them in accounting. They didn't work out either.
Our latest hire is working out, she's an accounting major fresh out of college. She's sharp and has a good work ethic.
She's from Asia.

175 You know what? I'm going to pause.

Trump is no dummy. He's proved that over the last forty years. He's probably used to some guy trying to drum up enthusiasm for one thing or another to get him to bite at an expensive bait. Trump has proven over those past forty years - and definitely over the last three - that he knows everything about marketing and puffery and ballyhoo and band-wagoning that a mortal man can know.

I am going to be patient and wait for him to decide when he wants to cancel this deal.

And on the subject of "Trump the Puppet" - haven't we already been through this before? That Donald Trump is controlled by Ivanka; no, Jared; no, Jared and Ivanka; no, Bannon; no, he was going to appoint Mitt; no, he is going to sell us out to the Paris Accords; no, he will open the borders; no, he etc., etc, etc.

My take is: Trump will talk to a fire hydrant if they are both on a street corner and his schedule has been delayed by 90 seconds. He is the first hyperactive president we have had this century (Theodore Roosevelt being the hyperactive president of the 20th Century) and like T.R. he has figured out how to focus all of that energy. He will listen to the pitch from anyone, he will let everyone think that he agrees with them, and he keeps his own counsel and will make his own decision when he thinks the correct time to move is. Note: that last does not mean he will be correct in his timing; just that he isn't a puppet.

My take is that Donald Trump keeps his own counsel; he listens to everyone, takes in all information he can, and when he thinks the time is right he moves on *that* thing.

I think more people have to think first about what Donald Trump's goal is for this project - Make America Great Again - and how he expects to get to that goal in 4-8 years; and spend less time wailing about why their pet project is not going forward *nownownownownow*. I mean, if you want to get an idea of what he is doing. What would Make America Great Again?

Foreign Policy: What would MAGA? How do we get there? Now divide this down how you want, and start thinking about it.

Domestic Policy: What would MAGA? How do we get there? Now divide this down how you want, and start thinking about it.

I am starting to think seriously about this. What is the outline we want to put up on point (1) Foreign Policy and point (2) Domestic Policy? I do not mean bow-tie tassel loafer conservative club white papers - so lovely to discuss, display, polish, and yet like a turd worthless. I mean really.

Here is an example: over the past several years I have heard much talk about the F-35 program (this is not an endorsement of any side of that argument). What I have seen recently is that the program costs are declining because bugs are being fixed and more nations are ordering them (larger production run and super friendly powers like Australia). Is that normal program recoupment, or is that something else? How does that fit into Foreign Policy and Domestic Policy? Does that justify placing such a big bet on something revolutionary, or should we aim for something evolutionary instead? Is the sourcing of such a weapon spread out sufficiently - that is, are enough parts of it both in design and construction geographically dispersed for protection? What does that mean politically - should we move through policy to have certain industries disperse, but do we want to have that occur if the major drivers of those industries are of one political philosophy?

Obviously no one can do that outside of a game of Civilization, have that much control and direction outside of the Second World War industrial mobilization, but it does give some thought-food, I believe.

185 The trouble is the notion that Trump is the solution. He's part of it, sure, but he's not 100% reliable, and even if he were, it'll take a lot more than him.

Just enjoy the good stuff. When the Weinstein flap dies down, CNN will be back to the hourly panic. ChucknNancy will be back to whining.
