The Godfather: New Project Veritas Sting Video Targets New York Times' Editor

The "gatekeeper" of the Times' online public library says that he knows James Comey not through working on campaigns, but through a family connection -- James Comey is actually his godfather.

But he didn't tell the Times about that, because he didn't want to get recused from stories about James Comey. However, when asked for comment later (I assume), he says that's not true, and just said it because it's a "good story."

He worked on social media for Obama in 2008 and 2012, and Hillary Clinton in 2016. Now, of course, he works for the New York Times. He also seems to mock the concept of "objectivity," saying "I will be 'objective'" with actual air quotes.

He also claims to have "used to be an antifa punk" and claims to have punched a "lot of Nazis." He also claims that he joined antifa for the FBI, to gather intelligence as an informant.

I'm not sure if this is something or not -- his family says they don't even know James Comey. I don't know if he figured out this was a Project Veritas sting early and began making up stuff to embarrass them, or if he was initially candid and then figured it out and started making up stuff, or what.

A digest/transcript of this strange video is here.

Important Update: Shelf Initiative status: Phase 2 is 66% finished; projecting completion by end of night.

Basically, Jack Straw reassured me that drywall anchors would pretty much hold stuff so I'm not sweating that the additional L-brackets aren't drilled into the studs. So I'm just using shorter screws to hold them near (though not in) the stud.

I figure that'll be okay because most of the force is going down, not pulling out from the wall, and the're just additional support anyway.

The drywall anchors supposedly hold 75 pounds or something each, and I have four on each shelf, so, even assuming the 75 pound rating is overstated, I think it'll be okay.

152 >>>Basically, Jack Straw reassured me that drywall anchors would pretty much hold stuff so I'm not sweating that the additional L-brackets aren't drilled into the studs.

212 Just screw the shelves in to the studs w/ the brackets. Sheetrock anchors really aren't designed to hold up shelves with weight on them.

Depends on the anchor and arrangement of shelves. I personally would not do that, but I have the tools to go into most any material. Look up a Walldog anchor by Powers fasteners. Little more than a screw but good for between 60 and 90 pounds shear - that is code approval. Key will be pullout and that will depend upon the arrangement of the shelving brackets on the wall and the location of the fasteners relative to the bracket. Shelves are primarily a static load so if the anchor bites, and it is not overloaded, he should be fine. Dynamic load, such as the toilet paper dispenser mentioned above (which for some strange reason people use as a grab bar) is another matter.

213 >>>
They should be fine as long as you don't go cray with the Geodes and Dark Matter.

I don't know what that means, but for each shelf, I'll use some of the space for storage of crap that's not books. Like my resistance bands and shit like that which I just throw under the bed or just on the floor (to be honest).

I'll only use each shelf for like half its length for books.

My husband, son and I nearly died from carbon monoxide while living in Chicagoland. I'm not kidding.

We had just had the furnace inspected, the day before we were to host the neighborhood Christmas party. I felt dizzy and nauseous in the wee hours of the morning, and little D'oh Boy woke us up saying he felt dizzy and sick.

Long story short, the furnace had a yuge flaw that filled the house with carbon monoxide. Son got up, passed out, hitting his bathroom door. I literally crawled on my hands and knees across the landing to the bathroom, and husband handed me the phone and said to call 911. I couldn't operate the phone.

We were all rushed to the hospital, and were told son and I had just a few more minutes before we would have been "unsaveable."

Had a new furnace installed by a different company that night. The old company had the balls to use us in a flyer saying, "Don't let this happen to you!" We made the cover of the local papers and the local TV news.

It was a nightmare. We have monitors all over our current house.

Hmm, all that posturing and lecturing while garbed in pussy hats and vajayjay costumes has lost its savor and its zing.

Posted by: Weasel at October 10, 2017 07:22 PM (Sfs6o)

296 I get pretty picky about drilling into studs. I always fear missing the center by too much and ending up with a lag screw stuck in the side of the damn thing, half (or less) in and half (or more) out. I use an electronic finder and a magnetic finder and still freak out. I hate spackle and paint because I can't match the finish perfectly, so I don't drill holes and feel around with wires to 100% zero in on the center of the stud. I shouldn't care because the holes will be hidden by whaever I'm hanging (usually a TV, which I do not want falling due to an off center lag screw that basically destroyed the stud I was going to depend on) and if it is that damn important for me to have stability, why in the hell don't I make certain of it all?

I think there's a pop song about this. Might be called "I've Got Issues".

Be careful with that recommendation. Furnace in my house has a dedicated fresh air supply direct to the flame. Not uncommon in the far north. I could completely seal the house except for that intake vent and the furnace would run just fine. Danger is from a failure in the exhaust system leaking CO into the house.

Get a CO detector, one for each floor if you have more than one.

Actual construction rarely works out that well. Fastener schedules are ignored, supplies are damaged, studs are poorly installed, fasteners over-driven...it's not textbooky at all.

438 Ace, on the shelving thing: the top screws actually have tension force on them.

A load placed on the shelf tries to pry the bracket off the wall. The prying places tension in the top anchor and pushes the bottom of the bracket against the wall.

It's still possible that the drywall will hold--there are lots of shelves installed like that.

I would just not put a fishtank on the shelf and then sleep under it.

I use a type of that where it goes in like a screw but then putting in the actual screw through it pushes the sides out to grab more of the drywall.

they're called drywall toggle anchors. supposedly each holds 100 lbs. (Just checked the box.)

456 349 Terry Crews comes out and says high level Hoolywwod Exec sexually assaulted him. Can't wait for the outcry to begin from all those who who cry rape culture and shit.

Is the exec out of traction yet?

According to Crew, it was very brief touch & Crew just pushed the guy's hand away from Crew's junk & then Crew just left the party. According to Crew he couldn't deck the offender cause of - wait for it - black oppression. Not saying that it didn't happen, but it sounds like an agenda, especially after Crew said the offender called him the next day to apologize, hmmm, and that don't fit the M.O. of sexual predators. To call a victim on the phone, that could be easily recorded, and then admit to a crime, it don't pass the smell test to me.

457 Attach some screw hooks to the rafters and use some cable to the front edge of the shelf. You could store all kinds of heavy shit on there then.

458 I'm glad the NFL is imploding. I love that the Hollywood hypocrisy is floating to the top.

But I won't truly be happy until Samantha Bee no longer has a TV show or a job.

459 Probably just a lot of drunk people falling into one another at a crowed party that encountered Crew, is my guess.

460 >>>A load placed on the shelf tries to pry the bracket off the wall. The prying places tension in the top anchor and pushes the bottom of the bracket against the wall.

well look, I don't know. what am I supposed to do, put a hook into a ceiling joist and run chains down to each shelf?

I'll try to keep the loads somewhat light. Still, a lot of books.

but I do now have nine shelves (or I will have nine soon) so I can spread the books over those and use some space for lightweight stuff like my dumbbells

461 I got tired of fucking around getting new shit. I just want these things up.

____

There's something about talking to the same guy, say, "Roger", for instance, several times over a weekend or a month or two while trying to make some so-called "simple" shelves or hang an expensive 60 inch flat screen.

I mean, for me at least, it's an "is Roger gonna call 911 this time? I'm pretty hammered, I wonder if he's noticed" kind of thing.

Mr Krebs - the only worse thing you could have added was "I'm surprised they stayed up as long as they did."
