Budweiser May Cancel Its Sponsorship of NFL Broadcasts -- and It Wants to Hear from the Public on the Issue
Some time ago, Nissan was pressured by the crybullies into stopping advertising on Hannity or something like that. I forget the details; it was one of the crybullies' pressure campaigns to turn private companies into leftist propaganda outfits.
Nissan issued a statement saying that they do not take political stances either way and would neither endorse nor denounce any political stance. I thought that was a wonderful example to set. I think maybe they did it because they're a Japanese company, and therefore, maybe, they feel they don't really understand American politics, so the best corporate path is to just stay out of them entirely. As opposed to to American corporations, where these decisions are made by social liberals who think they do understand American politics and think they do have their finger on the pulse of American thinking. After all, they watch Rachel Maddow every night. Sometimes twice, catching the rebroadcast just to see if they missed any snarky face-making on the #RussianFront. She's just that good! Anheiser-Busch is now a Belgian-Brazilian company. Though of course they have US offices, perhaps Anheiser-Busch is now thinking that, like Nissan, maybe they don't entirely understand American politics. And maybe they should bother asking American Bud drinkers if an association with the #TakeTheKnee NFL is now a positive or negative factor in consumer decisions.Now to be honest, I think this is bullshit. If you read the article, the hotline says very vague things. I think this is just a PR move -- the idea being that people get less angry when they feel they've been heard, even if they don't get their way. Still, I also suppose that if they get enough feedback telling them the NFL is now a liability, they may at least have some #RealTalk with the NFL, and that may at least spur the NFL to reconsider suspending its rulebook to allow some idiots to take a knee. Incidentally, I was wrong when I predicted that no one would be stupid enough to protest the national anthem last night, given that they were less than 24 hours after a mass shooting. Two football players took the knee. I guess the owners and coaches don't like money or having jobs. BTW, you may see some tension between my endorsement of the Nissan Standard -- just declare you are an apolitical organization and will not participate in secondary boycotts nor endorse any political messaging -- and my lack of any statement against a possible end of Budweiser's sponsorship of the NFL. Well, for one thing, I've never even heard of Budweiser considering ending its association with the NFL before now. I didn't call for it. But, if they're offering... I have more to say about this but I'll put it in its own post. There's a big distinction I think a lot of people are missing when they analyze -- or, really, just emotionalize -- this issue.
In the wake of increased national anthem protests by NFL players, Anheuser-Busch is reconsidering its NFL sponsorship, likely because the protests are very unpopular among everyday Americans. Bud Light currently serves as the official beer of the NFL. So the company set up a hotline for fans to call and give their thoughts about the protests and Anheuser-Busch’s sponsorship of the NFL. The number for the hotline is: 1-800-342-5283. What does the hotline say? When a customer calls the number, they are greeted by a recorded voice who gives them the opportunity to voice their opinions about the protests.

My gut tells me that you don't make a move like this unless your mind is made up to drop the NFL, and you want the cover of pressure from the public. So you go to the public and ask them for pressure.

My position on the Politicization Of All The Things is well yelped so I shan't repeat it. That being said, I view this as a case of a company being dragged against its will into something that was politicized and now the company has to find a way to deal with that.
That is different then buying ad time on a news channel, particularly during opinion shows. You know what is in that time slot and you know that it is an opinion show. That's one thing. Buying massive blocks of ads during what should be a non-political show and then having it turn political is quite another.

Seen in this pic by my count - over and above the two rifles previously shown in photos (the one with the bipod, and the one with the 100 rd mag and bump stock):
Additional rifle on bipod - looks bigger, could be AR10 and that would explain the mag with 7.62/.308 nearby.
Rifle in shooter's hand that is apparently how he offed himself.
At least a couple more ARs with 100 rd mags. Perhaps yet another one is visible.

The PR of asking fans may well get a lot of non drinking liberals to call. They need a bar poll ... for every bud a person drinks, they get a vote. Add in a coupon on the packaging ... save them and send them in with a votes for every beer bought. They'd find 90% are against the NFL not upholding their "stand for the anthem" rule.
By just using the voice mail thing, they can ignore the results.

Yes.. it IS ridiculous! I stopped ordering beer out at restaurants.. $5 for domestics and $6 and up for craft beers at the low end.. fancier restaurants are way up from there.

My sister brought beer before we tailgated before the 2011 NLCS game against the Cards. The cans were blue and white and so she didn't pay attention to what she was buying. When we started drinking them, we noticed they were Buds. The Crew lost to St. Louis. And that's why - BECAUSE WE DRANK BUD!

I think the most likely scenario in all of this will be a lot of people making a conscious effort to consume less NFL. It wont be "cold turkey" no more football. So it will be a slow slide down, and my guess is the MSM will blame it on a lot of ancillary things like cable cutting.
It's sort of like Hollywood, I love watching films and I'm not going to completely stop all entertainment over politics, but I definitely go to a lot less movies and even go out of my way to not see a movie I would normally want to if someone involved is being an especially big jackass with their politics.

Worst beer ever?
The domestic Stella brand in Egypt. The export stuff was potable, kind of like low-rent Heineken.
But the domestic.....ugh. Bottled in what looked like green wine bottles, reused. They'd wash them (maybe) and if the label was still readable they'd leave the old one on. If not, they'd just slap a new label over the old. Some bottles would end up with 3 or 4 labels piled up on them.
As to the brew itself, bottled using Nile water.....mostly tasted like the aforementioned Heineken, with a funky aftertaste. But the hangover. Was. Epic. Even if you only had one bottle.
We later learned that they were using formaldehyde to fortify/preserve it.

The NFL got away with such outrageous behavior for two reasons: one, its partnership with the three networks; and two, its almost all-encompassing influence over the sportswriters, who could be counted on to parrot the party line. It was disgraceful and I wanted no part of it...
And God forbid you disagreed with them, or criticized them, or as a working journalist exposed their duplicity. They circled the wagons, even tried to discredit you by distorting what you had reported...

We know the NFL is losing viewers, and if Bud takes off and stops advertising, someone will buy that ad time at a lower rate.
Now lets say the impossible happens, and the NFL becomes popular again. (They clean up their act, two teams go on a winning streak and they could go undefeated until they meet each other, or kneeling players are tared and feathered at half time, by lucky fans). Can the networks ask for more money from that company?
We have seen that the networks have given free ads to companies for not meeting the number of viewers during game times. Can networks come back and ask for more?

The hardest thing for any football fan is to give up watching their own team, especially if they are longstanding loyalists. Well, there are only two teams in the SB.
all sports survive due to the "star" power
they find good players, yes, but then they PR them to death as celebrities and make you like them (even though you don't know them)
once the shine comes off the star, it's easy to walk away
People looked up to certain nfl players, and many of the players let them down. It is like switch to many who worship celebrities.
They are all people, nothing more, nothing less. Some play a good game.
The family and friends gathering aspect is/was more important.

Not a fan either. Plus, I think folks are brewing/drinking them wrong. They were originally brewed to be shipped from England to India so they added a lot of hops so it could handle the long journey. So now they brew an IPA and take it straight to the bar or grocery store. No long journey - so I'm thinking it doesn't taste the way an IPA was engineered to taste once it reached India.
