Tough Call: Julian Assange Offers Proof of the Falsity of the Russian Collusion Storyline -- for a Pardon

Actually, I don't think is that tough a call. We make deals with criminals every day if they can offer evidence in a more significant case.

Proof for a pardon, he says.

Given that we're right not pondering whether or not the President conspired with an enemy nation to #HackTheElection, I'd say that this offer does indeed qualify as a "more significant case."

The trouble is this: When he says "evidence," what type of evidence does he mean? Merely suggestive evidence, with some accompanying argumentation as to why you should take X conclusion based on Y evidence?

Or dispositive, that-resolves-it evidence?

The latter is worth a pardon; the former is not.

Now, no one has to make this decision blindly; the usual procedure, assuming Law & Order isn't lying to me, is that a witness seeking immunity will make a "proffer" of what evidence he has to present and prosecutors (or the AG, or president) will make a determination based on that proffer. And if his proffer overstates what he has and he doesn't actually deliver the proffered goods, the deal is off.

Still, this would be very controversial. I think the prog left media and the NeverTrumpers don't want any evidence that their cherished narrative is wrong.

I do. We should know one way or the other. The media has trumped this up into a national crisis, and if resolving a national crisis, one way or the other, involves a pardon for lawbreaker, so be it.

Hell, I think Obama was even thinking about pardoning this guy for no reason anyway.

And also: I don't even think a pardon will really keep Assange out of jail. Because he'll do the same shit next month, and then you can file an indictment against him based on his fresh lawbreaking.

4 well... the swedish "rape" charges were dropped I think, so the only thing outstanding is an extradition to the US on some arcane espionage law that he'd almost definitely beat the charges on anyways, right?

So... I say just drop the extradition request. No pardon, per se, but he'll be free to move about the rest of the world.

Obama was probably thinking about pardoning him because he loves pardoning people that damage the US. Remember Assange is the prick that ran all that stuff either Manning or Snowden released, or both of them.

If Assange has evidence that others are guilty of illegal collusion to cast the appearance of impropriety on PDT, then we are talking.

Alas, the nature of his evidence can never really be used legally as it has been obtained illegally, and as such is inadmissible.

Even if it could be used superficially, the Dems would just claim it is unreliable or fake.

So basically, from where Im sitting, its of no use to our side. Now, if he wants to leverage their side with it, well....the enemy of my enemy....

The theory is that the information given to Wikileaks was provided by Seth Rich, who was later murdered.

This can supposedly be confirmed by Kim Dotcom, who offered to give evidence, however, it seems the Mueller is not interested.

/and when asked about the investigation and Assange, Sessions is happy to let Mueller and his 12,000 Hillary lawyers and investigators do their work. Muller's team might be ignoring evidence and not following leads, however, I'm told that it's proper for Sessions to keep his mouth shut and not comment on that.

The war thing is part of their Mass Hysteria Bubble. That they are righteous & fighting some higher purpose battle.

Posted by: Gumdrop Gorilla at September 29, 2017 08:50 PM (2zIj5)

90 God himself could come down and tell us the Russian thing was a lie and the usual SJW/Media/Political figures would still insist the Russia narrative was true. They are operating in a mass hysteria bubble. Nothing pierces it. Nothing.

Considering how the left hates God, I would expect nothing less of them

91 It's pretty neat to appreciate what they're able to accomplish all by pushing a narrative. IIRC there were only 16 or so unarmed (not peaceful, just unarmed) black dudes shot by police each year and they're going to collapse the NFL over it.

You have to admire that.

And my point was about why Obama would want to pardon this asshole. And he is an asshole, its just that he might occasionally do something we see as positive. But he's not someone out there fighting the good fight. What Assange did during the election was certainly positive towards Trump and might have helped him win. If that hadn't happened I can almost certainly see Obama giving him a get out of jail free card just like he did to the tranny that was sitting in jail for giving information to Assange in the first place.

There are any number of people that I know who are reasonable people, and reasonably intelligent people, but they have been so exposed to the Left's narrative by the media (ALL of the media), that they accept it as objective truth because they have heard nothing that contradicts that narrative.

Naw , Ben it's a damn good question. He is not a citizen and any visa granted to him would have to be under a special class of visas given to aliens for the purpose testifying in court.

An imm law judge would have to grant it and there would be levels of review before it could happen. Meaning lots of loose shit aka opportunity for black-robed thug monkey wrenches.

And that doesn't begin to even touch the evaluation of any testimonial evidence for admissibility.

I'm a high school social studies teacher. I tell my classes openly, that while I sincerely want them to speak for themselves and I see it as my job to be neutral and opinion-free, I am staunchly anti-communist and hold no reservations about being biased as shit on that particular topic.

Then I tell them in gory detail how communism murdered 100 million people in the last century alone, and continues to increase its body count today. I don't care what class it is- I'll get this in there.

So don't write off all teachers. Some of us out here speak the truth about evil in this world.

He's not an American and he's never set foot on American soil. So, why would he need immunity from prosecution.

First off, he hasn't been charged with a crime, unless there's something under seal. But, the theory that get batted around is that he was part of a conspiracy to commit crimes in the USA. Like if he was in communication with Manning before Manning committed his crimes and Assange somehow helped or directed Manning in his criminal activities.

If all they can prove is that Assange received stolen intelligence from Manning and then published it, well, that's no crime.

But, Nixon was pardoned without being charged, so it should be an option for Assange if Trump was so inclined.

245 Contrary to #37 above and others: President Clinton pardoned Marc Rich. Rich had fled the jurisdiction and refused to submit to judgment by US courts. He did do something for the pardon....by having his ex-wife donate $1 million toe the DNC promptly. She wasn't one to, otherwise, let go of such money free of strings. Therefore, pardoning Assange is a good idea, provided the terms of his information provision are made very clear.

I think the Assange-Snowden-Manning saga is one long tale. At some point the public actually needed to know the extent of government surveillance. I note that Manning did nothing significant to earn his freedom, his light sentence. He revelations were, additionally, of no use to the public beyond embarrassing Clinton. Inquiring minds want to know....why the DNC refused to permit the FBI to examine its server.
