RussiaGate Keeps on Collapsing: DHS Wrong When It Claimed Russian-Linked Individuals Tried to Hack Wisconsin and California's Voter Registration Systems

They notified 21 states that they suspected RUSSIAN hacking of voter databases, so this doesn't mean none of it happened.

But for two of those 21 states, DHS is now correcting -- there was hacking, but not of anything to do with voting or voter databases.

The DHS notified 21 states including California and Wisconsin that Russian-linked individuals had tried to target either voter registration files or public election sites. The DHS is now claiming that these hackers targeted the California Department of Technology and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Incidentally, remember that story that former Obama officials leaked, claiming that Obama tried to "warn" FaceBook about Russian #FakeNews?

First of all, that's presidential pressure on a private corporation to patrol the speech it permits on this. I doubt we'll see Allahpundit grumbling about that, though. No, for him, it's all Trump's Corrupting Authoritarianism, all the time.

Second of all, putting aside Obama's authoritarian attempts to chill the speech of private corporation's rules and messaging, the story was false-- Obama complained of so-called "#FakeNews" that hurt his party, but didn't mention Russians.

One might suspect he was more worried about Drudge, Breitbart, and Jim Hoft than the Red Peril.

Monday's version of "Democracy Dies in Darkness" featured a fake news story on the top of the front page: "Obama sought to prod Facebook on Russia role." After the story ran, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg corrected The Washington Post, pointing out that Russia was not the topic of discussion — the meeting centered on fake news, and the president did not mention Russia.

Axios broke the story on Tuesday, reporting that the Post's online version noted the article "has been updated with an additional response from Facebook." That response led to the report that "Obama made a personal appeal to Zuckerberg to take the threat of fake news and political disinformation seriously ... though the president did not single out Russia specifically."

The revised story also reported that Obama and top aides "quietly agonized on how to respond to Russia's brazen intervention on behalf o the Donald Trump campaign without making matters worse." Elliot Schrage, Facebook's vice president of communications, told the Post that Obama's discussion with Zuckerberg was about "misinformation and false news" and "did not include any references to possible foreign interference or suggestions about confronting threats to Facebook."

So, Obama was complaining -- given that he wasn't mentioning foreign or Russian interference -- American speech on FaceBook.

So who did it?

Erick Erickson claims that noted partisan liar Susan Rice accompanied Obama when he met with Zuckerberg.

So did she leak it? With the false claim the warning was about Russia?

Gee, given that we're supposed to trust our Media-Governmental Elite because they're just so infallible, they sure are fallible, aren't they?

Yes. It was something like 10 attempted entries that were traced back to DHS servers (because those dipshits are too stupid to even try to mask their internet probes). I think DHS claimed that they were testing security or some bullshit like that.

Personally, I hate all the electronic voting. It's stupid. Mechanical machines work perfectly fine and the number of voters doesn't increase that much (or things voted on) to render that stable system obsolete, by any means. I don't trust any of the electronic machines and I certainly don't trust any internet connections the voting systems have. The people who run all this stuff are just too stupid, incompetent, and lazy to do a decent job securing things. Mechanical lever machines are perfectly good. Having bipartisan committees counting the votes works fine. THey can introduce technology by taping the local counts, but that's as far as that should go.

I don't get the chance to say "Michigan got it right" terribly often, but when I do, it's usually something that makes me wonder why everyone doesn't do it. Here, you get a big ballot and a marker, fill in the arrow, then feed it into a scantron reader. The counter on the machine goes up by one, you're done. The vote is tallied right away, and if it's ever contested, you can go back and look at the ballots; there's ink on paper right there.

203 I know some extreme free market idealists believe that there's no such thing as a monopoly and the free market will always correct it, but I disagree completely.

I also think monopolies are damaging to capitalism and free enterprise.

If like 3 companies rule internet communication and commerce, that's not healthy for the economy or entrepreneurship.

I'm not for state ownership, but something like what was done with AT&T seems appropriate to me.

Maybe I would feel different if these companies weren't so heavily invested in Social Marxism and were part of the Deep State.

Can't do it. Once you make these "small" exceptions the next thing you know we would be right back where we are. This is a situation that calls for tough love. If someone is bed-ridden and can't get to the polls then that's just tough. Otherwise, you'll have psychiatrists claiming that agoraphobics need mail-in ballots, and then all sorts of others.

225 Monopolies are not innately evil existences. They're most often the result of economies of scale or some other major efficiency advantage over competitors. Breaking them up is a negative, not a positive thing.

Unless they're the result of collusion it's pretty much best for everyone to just let them carry on. There's a good reason that the last few decades of monopoly law have almost entirely rolled back the trustbusting craze from a century ago.

Race is a social construct. These African and Caribbean blacks are not true blacks. This is because race is just a socially constructed mask over the social construct that is the real war, culture. They don't need to waste resources spreading chaos to us... our own politics is already doing a fine job of it.

That just isn't true of Amazon. Anything they sell is available elsewhere. Walmart has an online arm and sells much of the merchandise that Amazon does. If you can use a search engine, you can find another site to sell you almost anything Amazon has.

If you want to start a competitor to Amazon, there is no regulatory roadblock like there was with telco service. You need bandwidth and warehouse space, but the governmental barriers are nothing like there is when it comes to building a new phone service.

338 Thought that Wayne County (Detroit) had a massive problem - something like 60% of precincts had mismatch between polling place log and number of ballots (the most basic metric of integrity at the precinct level). Prevented the idiotic recount from even occurring, per MI law.

Some up above is correct - scanned or punch-card machine ballots are highly resistant to fraud or miscounting, and provide hard artifacts for checking back if desired.

(and FL's 2000 recount, and its state law, were fundamentally ridiculous - the only test statistically required on that kind of system is to confirm the tabulation machines are working properly - which is determined by a standard test ..... once that is done, there is no chance the vote count will be wrong - that's the whole point of the system - which explains why the subsequent privately funded hand recounts in FL confirmed the numbers from election night - duh!)

370 Still recall the Nigerian cab drivers in the DC area (many of them engineers and other educated sorts) - um, stand back when they unload on degeneracy in America, on (then) Bill Clinton, etc. Right-wing extremists would be a fair description.

Still recall a Nigerian guy who worked the graveyard at a gas station convenience store out near Dulles - I'd often fill up after hockey practice late at night in Reston. Some long discussions. Guy was educated, passionate, religious, and volcanic on Clinton, Dems, American blacks, etc. Hilarious.

Oh - and was true, probably still is - one of the very highest demos in America, by education and income, has historically been black immigrants (mostly West Indies origin). Up there with Japanese and Chinese, Lebanese. Some distortion there due to brain drain (professionals coming in, fleeing Jamaican decline or small markets). But duh - CULTURE and behavior. As if any spectacular confirmation of that common sense were needed.

Federal deportation officers swarmed sanctuary cities this week, netting nearly 500 immigrants in a series of targeted operations designed to go after people that counties and cities were shielding through their noncooperation policies. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it netted more than 100 migrants in Los Angeles and Philadelphia each, and dozens more in Baltimore, Chicago, Denver and New York, among other sanctuary jurisdictions.

374 I actually rather like voting by mail. Sure there's a bit of potential integrity lost, but when you aren't allowed to ask for ID (though some people provide it unrequested) it's pretty much impossible to prove someone is who they say they are anyway. Only very very small towns could really put faces together with names.

My ballot comes in the mail, I fill it out at my convenience with no waiting in line and I can either mail it back or drop it off at a polling place. No marking up a sample ballot as a reference to try and remember which judge or proposition you like. No long drives to far away polling places during special elections and primaries with low expected turnout.

388 292,
"I don't think Russia is sowing chaos for one very simple reason...

They don't need to... they are watching us tear ourselves apart...
they are watching us destroy our own economy... watching us try to fight
multiple wars without enough troops (breaking the military)...

They don't need to waste resources spreading chaos to us... our own politics is already doing a fine job of it."

They, the USSR, built the machine that is tearing us apart. Moscow funded and controlled the CPUSA which in turn funded, trained and controlled the New Left.

When the New Left crashed into splinter groups in the late 70s it was the old line CPUSA people, with Moscow's help that reformed them into the Community Organizer mold and setup the biggest CO training center, the Midwest Academy and the early community organizer groups which were out of Chicago.

That the inheritors of the New Left run the Democrats is the not so funny joke that the Russians influenced the election. They did, for the Dems. And have done so since the 1968 New Left takeover of the Democratic Party, if not earlier because the FDR administration was infiltrated with Russian agents since the 1930's.

I favor something in between. Mail out the ballots so we can still take our time filling them out in the convenience of our homes, but you can't mail them back in. You stop at your polling place with your ballot already filled out. You can then be ID'd and turn in your ballot.

442 The problem with widespread mail in ballots is that they are just begging for someone to offer to buy them from bloc voters (say, all of the residents in a barrio) and then have one person fill them all in and mail them back.

In fact that's already happening in some of the places that have them.

When there are just a few mail in ballots, given out for cause, that do not occur in concentrated groups, then there is not enough of an incentive for this kind of voting fraud to happen, and it doesn't.

It's a weakness in this system that a ballot accumulator could swing an election with.

Just arrest a few black robes in their court room for not following federal law concerning reporting illegals. Charge them, hand cuff and perp walk them out in public, and house them in the jail in the general population. Probably only need to do that a few times and things will change pretty quickly.

I think there must be a balance between accommodation and integrity. The government should not have to supply 'extreme aid' to insure that everyone can vote, especially if by supply that accommodation an opportunity for massive fraud can result.

Because it is not the government's responsibility to help you exercise your rights.

How about free buses to gun stores, paid for by the state?

As long as government does not place restrictions on anyone, the playing field is level and fair.

I have seen enough people in wheelchairs at my voting station to laugh at the idea that we need early voting and absentee voting to protect our democracy.

Even easier....a fine of $10,000/day/illegal employee.

If you really can't get people to cut up pigs in rural Iowa, then by all means import illegals. It will cost you, and those babyback ribs at Chilis are going to run about $75, but still....

Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at September 28, 2017 07:52 PM (wYseH)

492 wanna stop people hiring illegal aliens?

change one rule: currently, it is illegal for an employer to try and verify any documents submitted on an I-9.

change it so it's illegal for them to NOT verify the docs and presto, there goes your regular illegal labor market.

you'll still have to chase after all the assholes, like my neighbors, who hire them as maids, nannys, housekeepers, gardeners, pool boys, etc, for cash, and dry up the swarms at the home improvement stores, but that's not that tough of a problem, once you drain away the rest of the sea.

I've always felt that a lot of the voter registration initiatives, like motor voter, voting by mail, and early voting, have the ulterior motive of enhancing the opportunity for fraud. Of course all our idiot Repubs support the stated motive but don't have the balls to investigate actual fraud because that would seem "mean".

There are some personal situations that require you to be unable to physically appear in person at a designated polling place on election day, but the valid ones appear to be few in number (military service, job requirements, physical disability, hospitalization, etc.).

Posted by: Hrothgar at September 28, 2017 07:57 PM (gwPgz)

voter fraud is done by donks figuring out who on roles didn't vote and then using them to find new votes
---

It's also done by election workers who count ballots, record the vote incorrectly and then lie about the number of incorrect votes in any one box.

Real life example: Wayne County, MI recount as per Jill Stein.
