11 Congress continues preparing its grave. Oh, maybe a larger Republican majority would come into office, thereby needing fewer compromises... please. Even if that was how it worked, multiple markets could collapse next year. Trivial games in the face of that is unconscionable.

Does give the Man on the White Horse room to maneuver though.

27 So how does Collins propose to "fix" her laundry list of problems with Obamacare?
She obviously doesn't believe her state will care for these people. Wonder if her gov. is aware of that.

Trump said last year that maybe letting Obamacare totally fall apart was the best way to get rid of it. I don't know how you can in good conscience, keep fining people for not having insurance when there is none to buy, and without a repeal, that and the Obamacare taxes roll on. But with the Republican's in charge, Obamacare will NEVER be repealed.

73 Well, when I arrived last night, mistakenly said all was well here at Casa de Peon in AJ. I spoke too soon, I guess. The toilet up and and died. The float valve quit working, so it just kept on filling, and filling....

And the seal between the tank and the bowl also failed, so when I flushed it, a lot of (fresh) water sprayed out on the floor.

So today, I took a previously-purchased one-piece Kohler toilet that I'd been saving for the "new" bathroom, and installed it in the old bathroom. And it works. So I am having a well-earned bottle of Coors.

80 Frankly, no act by Sen Collins would surprise me any more, unless she started actually representing her constituents.

They're all political weasels and swim in the swamp as deep as any Democrat. Pence tweeted that Graham-Cassidy fulfilled the GOP promise to "Repeal and Replace Obamacare". Funny but all I remember BEFORE Trump won, was multiple full REPEAL bills, all of which were doomed to fail because Obamacare would veto them the instant they hit his desk. Maybe my mind is failing, but I swear I don't think I ever heard the word REPLACE and Obamacare in the same sentence, until the scurrilous scum were finally in a position to actually do something good for the country with both houses and the Presidency!

Maine is kind of easy to explain -- it is full of Masshole retirees. The native Mainers are an odd, insular bunch (no offense) who mostly work seasonal touristy jobs and smoke a ton of weed. Then there is also an opiate situation going on there.

The only reason it's sort of an R state is because they love guns, hunting, and all kinds of snowbilly things.

This objection would come from the lib-stung, pre-paralysis mind.

It's a fan's right to burn the gear he bought with the teams logo and demand refunds on his season tickets and choose not to watch another NFL game, too.

This whole idea that you can't be upset at somebody's else use of free speech, and take actions within your own property and prerogative, is not only stupid, but completely non-mutual when the libs don't like conservative speech--and they just don't stick to their property and prerogative.

135 There was talk on the last thread about rugby.

Great sport. I played for over 15 years, semi-serious.

There's more running action in an 80-minute rugby match than there is in three plus hours of NFL gridiron. Which is why is why Gridiron will never catch on in England and Europe.

Now if you want another fun sport: Gaelic Football.
Aussie Rules is Gaelic Football played with a rugby ball on a cricket pitch.
Gaelic has a round ball. You have to dribble it every third step, so you can't just carry and bull your way forward like in rugby. You can't tackle, but you can "impede" so it's more physical than soccer. You can hand pass, or turn a kick into a pass.
There's a soccer-like goal with uprights, and a goalie. If you beat the goalie into the net, it's three points; over the goalie between the uprights and it's one. This spreads the defense. If you collapse on the goal like in soccer, you give up easy chip shots.
There's no offside rule, which is the bane of soccer. You don't need it because the game moves so fast.

With the GOPe, 100 small steps are far too many to contemplate, much less implement, so forget the whole thing (except for the graft, power, and perks)!

WASHINGTON - An updated version of the Graham-Cassidy health care bill circulating among lobbyists and on Capitol Hill on Sunday night has changed to provide more benefits to Alaska, a move to appeal to Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who has been highly skeptical of efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The new version would grandfather Native Alaskans into Medicaid so they wouldn't lose coverage after the expanded Medicaid program is rolled back in 2020.

205 I'd like to introduce people to a concept known for millennia as the "false dichotomy"

This is a logical fallacy by which you choose two extreme choices and present them as if they are the only possible choices, then attack one choice as poor as a result.

In real life, there are many choices. You can have actually bad options that do not require you to pick them OR the ideal option.

For example, this bill does almost nothing to help Americans or deal with the ACA. Its a choice, but not a good one. Congress has many other options and choices it could make, but is deciding not to.

So rejecting this bad choice is, shocking though it might seem, not the same as requiring only the ideal choice.

270 Steyn:

"The governmentalization of health care is the fastest way to a permanent left-of-center political culture. It redefines the relationship between the citizen and the state in fundamental ways that make limited government all but impossible.

The result is a kind of two-party one-party state; Right-of-center parties will once in a while be in office, but never in power, merely presiding over vast left-wing bureaucracies that cruise on regardless.

Republicans seem to have difficulty grasping this basic dynamic. The Democrats understand that politics is not just about Tuesday evenings every other November, but about everything else, too.
Once the state swells to a certain size, the people available to fill the ever-expanding number of government jobs will be statists-- sometimes hard-core Marxist statists, sometimes social-engineering multiculti statists, sometimes fluffily "compassionate" statists, but always statists.

The short history of the post-war welfare state is that you don't need a president-for-life if you've got a bureaucracy-for-life...government health care is not about health care, it's about government.".......

Our Blob-ocracy has grown to the point to where Gumment is trying to do EVERYTHING. It funds neo-natal units and the Planned Parenthood camps. It sponsors gun buy-backs and sells machine guns to el Chapo. It funds arms control and gives nukes to Iran.

Almost anything does, it also does the opposite.

the patient is at home, (hopefully) surrounded by friends and loved ones, which is better for them mentally.

treatment is focused on pain management and quality of life. there are usually social/mental healthcare w*rkers available to help everyone involved, and to navigate the inevitable red tape.

it should also be covered under insurance, if you have it. if not, it will likely be money well spent, considering the alternative, and certainly cheaper than being in a hospital.

He had nurses, doctors, volunteers (everything from grocery shopping to laundry), supplies for all medical needs (he had a colostomy), and they would be there in a very short time in an urgent situation. I literally cannot say enough good things about them. Not sure it's like that everywhere, he was with Scripps in La Jolla, but it certainly should be. They certify for hospice 6 months at a time and re-certify when necessary. Really, just do it. Or e me and we can discuss in more detail (see 264). xoxo, sweetie, it's a hard place to be.

The "right" never advances anything because they (at least those backstabbing traitors who like to portray themselves as being on the right) never even try. THey just don't like the idea of hurting the feelings of the America-hating dems they love to collaborate with.

BarkyCare should have gotten a simple, pure repeal bill. Let these fuckers vote on that. But the Vichy GOP would never even try to do anything like that ... because they are treasonous shit-weasels.

This BarkyCare bill is no repeal. It's not even anything close to repeal. It's just what the Vichy GOP thinks is enough to shut us up about BarkyCare, but to let BarkyCare continue on and grow.

It depends on the provider. There are many. Explore your options. Choose a large, reputable one, oreferably affiliated with a good local hospital system.

Its a great alternative, especially if you do not want further hospital time. Especially if you want more home time and time with family.

It is not a scam, although anything funded by Medicare is very scammable.

324 Suspension of belief/disbelief.

You watch a movie. You know the actors are actors and not the characters they pretend to be, but as you watch you get caught up in the story and you forget they are actors and start to believe they are the characters.

You watch a football game. You know they are professional athletes getting paid to work for the team/business' owner and not doing it for you the fan, but as you watch you forget all that and feel they are doing it for you, when in reality the only people a pro athlete has less respect for than the fans is the sports media monkeys.

Then the actors or musicians or pro athletes start doing something stupid and attention getting in the real world, like political preaching or whatever, and you can no longer watch them without thinking about their stupid bullshit.

You can't suspend your belief/disbelief. The spell is broken.

And then you stop giving them your attention, which means money to them, because they are no longer entertaining you.

Facility hospice care was not an option for me, too cold and isolated. I was very disappointed with the home hospice service as they provided only minimum essential support in my opinion, but at least it was at home. This is where I sort of agree with your BIL.

I did find an independent hospice intensive care service that was a life saver, because I severely underestimated the 24/7 nature and workload of home hospice care. I can't imagine not having an extra pair of hands while doing hospice, and my daughter was here 18-20 hours a day to back me up. I would suggest that you researched such independent hospice providers and have one on speed-dial.

Prayers up!

At this point, much of what he can do is limited to calling attention to the problem, and he is brilliant at doing that. He cannot drain the swamp of elected officials (or consumption of products from hostile corporations for that matter). Only we can do that.

But: I read that he might well be good enough to be a backup QB, but he's asking for more money than that role pays. As the man said, SJWs always double down. Also, what team wants the hassle? Ever know a guy who thrived on ostentatious political displays, but did great work anyway? Me neither.

Also, this particular round of posturing seems to be about hating on Trump. Because that's such a smart play to put on when your audience is the NFL audience.
