1 Good Morning Morons; today is Sunday, September 24, 2017. On this day in 1780 Traitor Benedict Arnold fled to British Army lines when the arrest of British Major John André exposed Arnold's plot to surrender West Point. He knew George Washington would have hanged his sorry ass, unlike today when shitty traitors ARE the commander and chief. He died in London, England and was originally buried at a church there, Later his remains were transferred to a mass grave and dumped due to a "clerical error".

5 Washington is sending $1B in federal aid to socialist PR. And PR says they will ask for more. Even leftward tilting Faux admits in this article that PR's infrastructure was already in sorry shape. By all accounts it is a failed territory due someone's idiotic decision to invoke a socialist state to create a permanent free shit army.

All these socialist economies worldwide always prove Frédéric Bastiat's treatise on The Law. We would be better off if PR invoked their will to separate from the US and become their own country. But I fear as long as we have a communist Party and no opposition Party we would continue to send them money.

7 The political pope is finally getting some push-back.

More than 60 Roman Catholic theologians, priests and academics have formally accused Pope Francis of spreading heresy after the pontiff opened the door last year to allowing divorced and civilly remarried Catholics receive Communion.

However, I would have rather they attacked him on his meddling in other civil affairs that really have nothing to do with the church.

17 I quit watching the NFL decades ago. Here in Bumfk, SC the only time they showed my team, the Falcons, was when they were playing Charlotte. Before that the only time they showed them were when they were playing Dallas or Washington out of their league.

Those two teams were the ONLY teams that the local stations broadcast. One of my buddies at work actually called the TV station and asked why they carries only teams that were nowhere close to SC and didn't carry Atlanta. Their response was BS.

So I gave up on the NFL then. But my Dawgs slaughtered Mississippi State yesterday 31-3.

59 So, Buffalo Bills and Sabres owner Terry "Worst Owner in Team Pro Sports Bar None" Pegula wants to take shots at my President.

Let's have a look at Peloser's stellar record, shall we?

Buffalo Sabres - owned 6 seasons - record 133-196-47
Playoff appearances - ZERO

Buffalo Bills - owned 3+ seasons - record 25-26
Playoff appearances ZERO

2 pro sports teams. 9 seasons combined total (and counting). Cellar-dwellers in both sports. Zero playoff appearances.

Erie county went Dem in '16 as always because Buffalo. But step over the county line in any direction (where the people who actually buy tickets to games live) and what happens? For one example, Trump won Niagara County by TWENTY FVCKING POINTS.

So, by all means keep providing a SHIT product and alienating a huge portion of your fanbase, Peloser. Your utter inability to put anything resembling a winning team on the ice or field makes you the worst owner in pro team sports, bar none, by a mile, no competition. You suck, bigly.

I do not want to give up baseball. I genuinely enjoy listening to the games. But I quit paying attention to the NBA and NFL because of the changes to the game, the never-ending political comments, and the stupid, thuggish behavior of the player backed up by spineless management. Now just this weekend in B'More, only six people were shot. But four of the six are dead.

And this is with the world recognized Shock Trauma Center here in town.
One of the best trauma centers in the entire world.

101 Want a really good Baltimore story?

A great friend's (read that as brother) wife and son were in Baltimore when the Royals were there in the 2015 playoffs. Managed to get tickets (of course they did) to a game.

They got to talking (again, of course they did) with a Baltimore fan and I think his family.

The Royals won the game and he told them if the Royals make it to the series, they were going to a game.

Well, as we all know, the boys got there and they indeed got a call from the man.
Tickets are waiting for you at Kaufman Stadium.

102 Saw some numbers over at Instapundit; nfl audience is down ten percent - out of twenty two million. That means twenty million are still watching.

It also means the nfl wall ramp up advertising, trying to attract more viewers. Advertising - like political ads, like from the Ad Council. Non stop - never ending advertising managed by Sonobi to maximize your ad placement dollars. Like Google adwords, getting your ads in front of people who will respond favorably to your advertising pitch.

Ads. More Ads. That is what this country needs. More sports ads, ESPN ads, ads, ads, ads, ads. More advertising and less content, for your viewing pleasure.

I did a lot of research on appliances like washers, dryers, and refers a few years ago when I had to replace my old washing machine. None of them are WAS anymore. So I buy the cheapest thing I can find at Lowes when one craps out. They have become throw-away items. My wife did not do that when she went down and got the new Refer. She thought that a Samsung would be good. We already knew that the Sear refers that used to be bullet proof were crap now. Well after multiple warranty visits by their contract repair man they replaced it with another one. The it kept crapping out too. They then replaced that one with a different one without all the geegaws on it. No ice dispenser and water tap on the front. That one appears to be working now.

Meanwhile the old Sear we had and gave to my neighbor is working fine except for the broken water dispenser, and my VERY old Sear that I bought when we first moved in and is now out in the pool shed where i used to keep beer is still working and it is over 30 years old.

127 Sports: Work hard, prepare and practice, function as a team, respect the rules, play to win, and remember that it's only a game.

John Madden: Frenchy Fuqua touched the ball which hit the ground before Franco Harris caught it, Rob Lytle fumbled, it's the officials' fault every time my team doesn't win.

In the end, John Madden came out on top, didn't he? Successful coach, ultra-successful commentator (where he whined a lot about his losses to the Steelers and the Broncos) and the
payday that comes with having his name attached to a video game.

These are the values that the NFL has taught, and they go back way before Colin Kaeperenick. And we wonder why Al Gore, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton get so much traction when they spew horsecrap after they lose.

134 I've started to think this "unmasking" idea is just another part of the false narrative.

"Unmasking" presumes that the surveillance of Trump and his associates was incidental to intelligence-gathering efforts targeted on other persons, as authorized by the FISA court. Trump and his associates were then "unmasked" at the request of Obama's minions.

It's much more logical and simple to presume that Trump and his associates were indeed the target of those efforts.

It's unfortunate that the President decided to use his immense platform to make divisive and offensive statements about our players and the NFL. We strongly believe that players are leaders in our communities and positive influences. They have achieved their positions through tremendous work and dedication and should be celebrated for their success and positive impact. We believe it is important to support any of our players

169 58 I'm a huge football fan, but I've had it. As millionaires in 21st century America, these assholes are literally among the most privileged, pampered and fortunate people in the history of human existence.

Millions of these idiots spend a ton of energy and money to signal that are "a thug". which is glorified in hip hop, then act outraged when people treat them like thugs.
____________

What also annoys me is that they never bother to learn any actual facts about the so-called "injustices" they protest. They simply repeat the media/SJW's talking points, which are almost always wildly incorrect.

How many of those dummies did we see holding up their hands after Ferguson -- even though Mike Brown never held up his hands, and was shot because he had punched and tried to take the gun away from a cop whom he had then circled back around and charged at, despite being warned to stop? The whole "hands up, don't shoot" BS started after Mike Brown's little thug accessory (to the convenience story robbery) told a bunch of t.v. reporters that Brown had been standing with his hands up when he was shot. Both the autopsy and multiple witness reports flatly contradicted the little thug's story before he admitted he had made it up, but that didn't stop the "racial injustice" protesters in the NFL from running in front of the cameras with their hands up, to protest the "injustice" of Brown's shooting.

Same deal with Trayvon Martin, the "innocent little black boy who was skipping home from the candy store with Skittles in his pocket when he was shot in the back by a racist white cop because he was wearing a hoodie." Martin was a 17-year old thug who'd been expelled from school (and had been burglarizing houses in the Miami area) and thrown out of his house by his mother (the same woman who has been on the lecture circuit raking in cash off her son's death), when he went on a drug run to the local 7-11 so he could buy cigars to make blunts. As he was returning to his baby-daddy's girlfriend's house, where he was staying after his mother threw him out, he saw a light-skinned man watching him suspiciously in the neighborhood and he became enraged. He approached the man in the dark and sucker punched him in the face, then jumped on him and straddled him on the ground, beating him viciously as he screamed for help. Unfortunately for Martin, his victim was armed, and he shot him dead. The shooter was not a cop, and Martin was shot in the chest, not the back, but that hasn't stop the race-baiters (including those in the NFL) from trying to canonize Martin as a latter-day saint, based on myths about his death.

And look at this latest "injustice" from St. Louis. They're protesting a 2011 shooting in which a thug black drug dealer with a long rap sheet was observed by two cops dealing drugs in the parking lot of a Church's Fried Chicken. The cops pulled their marked car up behind Smith's (the dealer) car and got out to speak to Smith. He ran, jumped into his car, and twice violently rammed the cops' car. The cops drew their guns and ordered him to stop. He drove past them, hitting one cop's arm with his car on his way out of the parking lot. The cops got in their car and chased Smith, at speeds over 85 m.p.h. over wet roads, until he turned the wrong way into oncoming traffic and they were able to stop his vehicle. They got out and approached his car, ordering Smith to show his hands. Bystanders said both cops then jumped back from the car, as if they were startled by something they saw. The cops said they saw Smith reaching around for his gun (which the cops had seen in his car in the Church's parking lot). The cops searched Smith's car after the shooting and found both his loaded gun and his bag of illegal drugs in the car.

If these NFL players want to have a month dedicated to discussing this "racial injustice" issue, I'm all for it. But let's discuss the ACTUAL facts of these cases, not the phony, manufactured bullshit that gets repeated as "fact" by the MSM and these SJWs. And while we're at it, let's also discuss why so many cops in this country get shot by black criminal suspects, and why blacks commit such a hugely-disproportionate amount of the violent crime in this country, and other factors that are relevant to a full understanding of this issue.

But we all know that's not the kind of "discussion" these a-holes want to have.

Preach it Grammie! I'm having a hard time seeing what the big deal is -- partly because I'm not a huge sports fan (have never watched or cared about the NFL anyway) but also because I'm not so sure that *kneeling* is all that inherently disrespectful compared to standing.

At least they aren't (yet) turning their backs, raising clenched fists (remember the Black Power dudes at the '68 Olympics?), interrupting the anthem with loud chants, etc., in a much more blatant manner. Yes, I realize that the message behind taking the knee ("Whitey is oppressing us!") and the overall attempt to inject politics into sports, is what's offensive, not the gesture per se. Still, personally, I'd rather both sides just not make a big deal out of it and move on.

182 Last weekend I received free suite tickets to an NFL game. I hadn't been to a game in 31 years (at which I was a teenager, and FELL ASLEEP in the stands). But now I thought, "maybe the suite will be a better experience, so why not?"

On the drive in to the stadium, there was trash EVERYWHERE. Thousands of people just dropping trash all over the city. Nasty.

Parking was anywhere from $20-$60, to park on top of that garbage. I finally found a spot nearly a mile away, for which I paid $15. Walking to the stadium with hundreds of manchildren wearing other men's uniforms, shouting obscenities at each other was just awful.

I finally got to the stadium, and was thrust into the pressing crowd of loud, vulgar people in the security lines. Then, through metal detectors and into another line for the escalator to the suite level.

The hallways were packed with the same people. All told, it took almost an hour to get to my seat once I exited the freeway at the stadium. The home team ended up winning 9-3, with poor offenses, and interminable TV timeouts on the field.

Also, the announcer crowed about the "sellout crowd", yet over half the seats in the stadium were empty. Not at kickoff - during the game. Even the season ticket holders don't go to NFL games, it would seem.

Other than the 5 beers I drank that came with the suite - not worth it in the least. Dirty, boring, loud. And that was with premium tickets.

NFL Can't die soon enough.

183 One of the most interesting, and if I ever have a dime, solutions to dryer problems is to have two dryers for one washer. Jeans and towels can take hours to dry, but everything else is easy. Don't go to the sports bar on game days. If you must, order only water, or one cheap beer.

Never attend an event in person, ever. Unless you win free tickets somehow, as I did. Once there, buy no concessions.

________

For myself, it isn't about who does what during the song. It isn't about politics or patriotism, either.

I've always enjoyed football, and I've liked the NFL as far back as I can remember. It's always been fun for me. The league, its franchises and its partners in the media offered a wonderful entertainment product, one which I happily consumed. And now, they all seem to be making deliberate efforts to alienate me. If that's what they want, then they can consider me alienated.

Meanwhile, the Coca-Cola Company has begun a television ad campaign that touts the company itself, distinct from its products. This is a company that has remained apolitical when it was vogue to take a political position. (It didn't embargo South Africa when the rest of the world did, for example.) Maybe the values that Coke is expressing is just Madison Avenue messaging, but for me, it works and I appreciate it.

I'm really not getting worked up about the NFL, grammie, and I get what you're saying. When you come right down to it, my choices in entertainment or soft drinks aren't that important. There are many ways I can spend my money and my time, and there are many topics on which I can focus my attention.

If values are the topic of the day, I would like to say that my values overlap with God's values -- that's that ideal and the goal. Through its outlets, the National Football League seems to be saying that their values are something different. That's fine. The league and I can part ways with no hard feelings. It's what they appear to want.

Now, to get on with my Sunday, I could really go for a Coke.

I like to keep tabs on stuff that stands out to me, and I'm trying to relocate two posts:

1- There was a post recently ('Morning Rant' I think?) that had a twitter post showing the press' 'justifying' paedophilia as a gender preference. Does anyone remember which post contained this and can provide that link?

2- A cob recently featured their long twitter conversation in which they explained (I think it was) the availability of high risk pools and specialized insurance pre-Obamacare, and 'educated' the person being conversed with.

Both of these posts really stood out to me and I'd like to be able to reference them but the links are lost to me. Can someone help me find? Thanks!

234 Found the second link actually - 'Tweetstorm' from July 16 ace.mu.nu/archives/370681.php.

Still looking for second, tho. Help appreciated!

236 Well, an NFL team in Great Briton kneeling for the National Anthem and standing for God Save the Queen. Nothing like suicide by stupidity.

237 105 On the plus side, I scored a nice used router and router table off the inter webs.

Now I just need to clean them up, and put them to use.
Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice

HA! I was thinking wifi router. I had to look up what a router table was. A special table to put a wifi router on? VIA's got way too much money.
Posted by: Bruce at September 24, 2017 07:50 AM (8ikIW)

That got me, too. I saw "router" and "inter webs" in the same sentence and thought, "Why do you need a special table for it?"

238 The NFL is taking a knee to suck up to the anti-America left, the haters that work diligently at dividing US.

Patriotic Fans that love America pay to watch the game, and kneeling for the anthem is the chance for the haters to poke in the eye, American traditional belief in loyalty to America's founding ideals. You paid to get away from the hate? Nope, we hate you, and you must watch our anti-American display and accept it. No Escape from our hate.

Small signs of support for the five Dallas cops murdered by the BLM inspired killer were denied, because it might be "divisive" to be against cop killing.

Gingrich was just on saying the various leagues next response (if the left keeps running them) will be to stop doing the anthem at events, which he said was a 150 year tradition. Another guy said they don't wear "uniforms", they wear costumes. the military wears uniforms.

Posted by: vivi at September 24, 2017 09:28 AM (11H2y)

If you have cable, you give money to ESPN. They collect a net per-subscriber fee. Even if you don't watch or subscribe to ESPN.

I've seen estimates this charge is as low as $5.00 to as high as $10.00 a month.

The only way to keep them from seeing a nickel of your money is to cut ___ cable.

"Understanding America's ridiculously large $18.6T economy by comparing the GDP of US metro areas to entire countries The LA area, produced about the same economic output in 2016 as the entire country of Mexico. [dri]

--------

I noticed that they group Columbia, MD in with Baltimore (and Towson)... uhhh, Columbia is just a small suburban planned community of high earners who commute to D.C. and Baltimore. Besides one very huge office park, it doesn't have much of an industry to speak of.

241 30 Well it has spread to MLB...some cock sucker catcher for the Oaland As knelt. "

One idiot does not a trend make. The young Hispanic players who make up a big part of every team's roster seem genuinely grateful to America for giving the chance to escape shitholes like Venezuela and the DR. I once heard Pujols bragging that he had scored 100% on the test he took to become US citizen.

And most of the black American-born players don't seem interested in BLM. I'd say it's because American baseball players tend to come from the middle classes and not the hood (not many Little League teams in the inner cities) but of course, Kaepernick comes from the middle class himself.

Well, that seems a bit silly. Bus drivers and Taco Bell workers wear uniforms , not costumes to work. There is nothing uniquely military about the word uniforms.

________

Very true.

My beef (if you can call it that) is how the product is packaged. There are many elements -- the spectacle of the sporting events themselves, what's shown on television, what's discussed by the commentators, what's reported by the sports media, what's disseminated by the teams and leagues through press releases, etc. The last is something the league has absolute control over; the rest, not so much.

As I try to enjoy sports, I get the whole set. Lately, the national anthem protests (or platforms, or however it's being labeled) is dominating, and I can't help but think that it's all by design. Maybe it's not. Either way, I enjoy it a lot less.

Right now I'm thinking about The Rock and his early days as a professional wrestler. He started out as a heel. His catchphrase for a while was "Know your role, and shut your mouth." Call me silly or crazy, but I think there's some valuable wisdom in that.

The 'gluten free' labeling on shampoo is important to Celiacs because shampoo often runs off into the mouth/nose and topical exposure to gluten can cause the autoimmune disease equivalent of severe sun burns to Celiacs. Very unpleasant over your scalp, face, and other body parts. Anyone else buying the product because 'gluten free' is just a fad whoring hypochondriac.

253 249 Guessing the tv contracts n season tickets are already sold ... So it might be that the real losses wont be felt bythe nfl until next year...

Per second commercial prices are based on viewership #s expected and the aforementioned tv contract cash outlay. Viewership drops significantly forces advertisers to look to options or get discounted rates. Networks would be sprinting to the Commish for 'rebates' since the on field product is essentially the same, while allowing the 'disrespect cancer' to grow.

Posted by: Mr. Peebles at September 24, 2017 11:06 AM (oVJmc)

256 The NFL is taking a sucker's bet and risks killing the golden goose. The players are mostly morons, but the owners (most of them) didn't get rich by being fools.

I expect to see some walkback by the owners relatively soon. And Goodell of course will swivel as if mounted on castors.

I actually hope they do double down on insanity. The demise of the NFL and NBA, and their media whores at ESPN, would provide a wealth of schadenfreude.

The NHL remains largely untouched by this thus far. I started to transition to hockey last season and enjoyed it, although the sport does not transfer that well to television. In limited amounts it's fine. It will always be a regional sport, but then I'm now just a casual fan.
