The Morning Rant

Heh. Screw you, Steph Curry. Have fun hanging with Kaepernick.

Seems have been morphed into civil rights for blacks and raising awareness about all the ways we have failed them. Per John Legend (via Insty):

The NFL protests carry on in this tradition [Birmingham march, etc.]. They are not some arbitrary
statement about a flag. They are a demand that we Americans make this
country's reality match its proud symbolism. They are an attempt to
educate the public that criminal justice --- mass incarceration, lengthy
sentences, police brutality --- is the civil rights issue of our time
. Colin
Kaepernick, Michael Bennett, and Marshawn Lynch are demanding that this
country again take a breath, self-reflect, and recognize that we fail a
large and important population in this country by investing in prison
systems rather than education and housing, by using the criminal system
as a first rather than last resort, and by failing to punish police
officers who engage in illegal racial profiling and police abuse. They
are insisting that we do better.

Posted by: Widespread Pepe at September 25, 2017 11:45 AM (XFue2)

68 I think what the whole kerfluffle really shows is a more disturbing problem.

We now have politics in everything... I see politics on online dating profiles.. Facebook... ads... and even sports...

Politics EVERYWHERE.... and people are angry about them...

Now... here is the real problem. WHY are politics so important now???? Why are people so upset???

Politics is the means we use to control our Government... and Government has become so powerful and invasive that it now CONTROLS major aspects of our lives.

Think about it... there is NOTHING you do, that the government is not somehow involved in... even what damn bathroom you use...

That is the root of the current political insanity... and its not going to change until we tear down the behemoth the Government has become...

Posted by: Don Q. at September 25, 2017 11:45 AM (NgKpN)

69 I pointed this out in the previous thread.... but merits a repost here.

So.....

....did anybody point out to the Social Justice Geniuses in the NFL that sat for the American Anethem .... but STOOD UP for "God Save the Queen" for the game in England...... that slavery in the Americas was codified and legalized under BRITISH LAW.

They actually stood and paid respect to the anthem of the country the originally enslaved and oppressed their fore bearers.

They are an attempt to
educate the public that criminal justice --- mass incarceration, lengthy
sentences, police brutality --- is the civil rights issue of our time.
They

Interesting. Mass incarceration and lengthy sentences, especially.

Mass incarceration of who? Is it a particular demographic?

And if so, it ties into the lengthy sentences that were pushed by the same demographic because they were pissed that Whitey wasn't being equally punished back in the 80s. I remember uniform sentencing something something because of it.

Did it turn out to boomerang on the Mass Incarceration folks? Oh no. Gosh, whoever would've seen that coming when you demand minimum sentences for the crimes you can't seem to get your Masses to stop committing?

IIRC, these kangaroo kourts started because the reporting of a crime on campus to local police creates a permanent record of that crime. It gets added to crime stats for the college.

Parents look at that data to decide if a college is a safe place for their kids. High crime stats = look elsewhere for the kids.

BUT bringing the crimes & punishments inhouse means no official crime stats, therefore that college is safe for the kiddos.

The Cowboys organization created a decal ("Arm in Arm") to honor the fallen Dallas police, which the team wore on their helmet all through training camp and sought permission from the NFL to wear it during regular season. Their request was denied by the NFL and they abided by the decision.

There was another player (can't remember which team) who requested to wear pink dread in honor of him mother (died of breast cancer). That request was also denied by the NFL.

The idea was that there are "a lot of worthy causes" and if the NFL made "an exception for one" they'd have to make an "exception for all." The Dallas GM Jerry Jones agreed and said he could see the logic -- it would be opening a Pandora's Box.

Well, the NFL sure as hell opened the Pandora's Box now -- wonder if they will let players wear 9/11 shoes now.

But these protests predated Trump. He's trying to shine a light under the rock for all to see. He's trying to get the NFL to be clear as to where they stand on this - give them one more chance to stand down (no pun intended).

But Trump has nothing to do with the root cause or root motivations of this. NFL players stupidly bought into the false narrative that the MSM was spinning about "victims" such as Trayvon and Michael Brown. The media failed to be critical, the league failed to crack down on this early.

Plus: this is going over extremely well with middle America. People are sick of this crap at sporting events, they are sick of politics being rammed down our throats constantly, and want a break from it. NFL was getting way too politicized.

Protesting the flag makes sense, because it gets attention and pisses people off. I don't like it, but it makes sense. You make a lot of people mad, but you draw attention to the cause you are protesting for, and that's the point. Now, instead of protesting for social justice they are protesting against Trump, thereby drawing attention to Trump. A lot of people who previously were annoyed or ambivalent about protesting the anthem for a social justice cause aren't down with protesting the flag because Trump hurt somebody's feelings on twatter.

Posted by: Widespread Pepe at September 25, 2017 12:09 PM (XFue2)

From a strictly technical perspective they aren't considered administrative law courts. Administrative proceedings typically have to do with such things as a licensing agency filing a complaint against, say, a doctor or a hairdresser, or an environmental agency trying to fine someone because their kid dug a little stream in their backward too close to a snail darter. Family courts are civil courts of "equity", not in the colloquial sense, but in the sense of having the ability to impose equitable remedies beyond just monetary damages. Juvenile courts are technically civil courts too, I believe, despite the authority of those courts to impose incarceration on certain juveniles.

I think from a practical perspective, just about any guarantee of Constitutional rights if you find yourself in the system is largely illusory unless you have a shit-ton of money to spend on legal fees.

And once the NFL goes, NCAA football is useless so there goes all your free scholarships to attend fake made-up classes and not get a degree. Way to think it through, fellas. But good luck to ya.

Sure, not all athletes... I get it. But the choice has been made on their part and I cannot wait to either see all of these assclowns out of their millions or crawling back on their knees to try and get someone, anyone to care about a stupid game again.

So what is the meaning of kneeling with your hand over your heart supposed to mean? Trying to have it both ways?

But the "municipal" bonds that are sold for these stadiums are tax free at both the federal level and the state level.

So it's like a professional sports subsidy.

If a "normal" business sell bonds in order to raise money, the interest received on those bonds is taxed at every level.

The tax free exemption means the owners get to offer a lower rate of interest because it has the bonus of being tax free for investors.

You are thinking like a normal person. You need to think like a SJW. To them, protesting isn't about convincing other people to agree with your argument, it's about brow-beating your opponent into submission. The NFL knee protests prior to this were about racial iniquity. A lot of people who thought the protests were disrespectful to the flag/anthem/military/etc. weren't vocal about disliking them because they knew they would be browbeaten into submission with the scarlet R (racist). Now that Trump has made the protests about him, people who think it's disrespectful to the flag can be more vocal about their disagreement, because they aren't speaking up against a protest about racial iniquity, but a protest about Trump.

That's NOT the point you were making yesterday -- Kurt Schlitzer and Scott Adams are laughing at how Trump got the left to associate protesting the FLAG with protesting HIM. They think it was a genius move (which it was).
You were bitching and moaning about "your Aint's" taking the knee and saying it was WRONG for Trump to say anything.
YOU are a perfect example of the lily-livered "conservatives" who will let the Left keep taking inch after inch in this country because you "just want to watch football" when it is the LEFT who made football political and by letting them get away with that, you let them have it.

So If OJ Simpson had been tried for murder in Canada or other British Commonwealth areas, it would have been "Regina Vs. Simpson", rather than "The People (of the State of California) vs. Simpson"

If OJ Simpson had done something Timothy McVeighish, it would have been "United States vs. Simpson"

2. Symbolic protest.
These people aren't yet taking up arms against America. They're just expressing their loathsome treason and racism symbolically.

3. Game.

Sorry, have to disagree. This IS real news. Sure, on its face, it's trivial, but then dumping chests of tea into Boston Harbor was trivial too.

But in both case, the important part is the symbolism. Here the President of the United States is calling out the SJWs for their bullshit, and bringing it to the attention of the American people in an unprecedented way. Even people who don't follow sports know about this, because Trump is shining the light on the cockroaches.

448 The kneeling thing is only a "thing" when a few people are doing it (and when others aren't--the locus of debate between the two was always the issue at hand). As more players kneel, the effort will lose focus. This won't last through the year.

454 Here's the thing when it comes to corporate sponsorship that I think the NFL is missing. Maybe I'm wrong but at least its how I see it because I do it this way.

The left calls and bitches at companies and often have no relationship with them...they're doing what they always do which is bitch and moan.

I don't waste my time bitching and moaning to some corporations low level PR people...I just cancel whatever it is (Milwaukee JS, cable, etc) that does not stand up for the values I believe are important. I'm going through the list of companies that sponsor the NFL right now to see which ones I need to drop.

When I get a call from a company asking for me to come back or asking why I left, that is when I tell them why I am no longer there.

Temper tantrums don't do shit, but a loss of revenue sure as hell does.

517 we fail a large and important population in this country by investing in prison systems rather than education and housing, by using the criminal system as a first rather than last resort, and by failing to punish police officers who engage in illegal racial profiling and police abuse. They
are insisting that we do better.
______________________

Notice who they aren't insisting do better? The blacks themselves.

The rest of us owe them -- education and housing and free health care and all the rest. But what do they owe us in return? Nothing.

They can create a vicious thug culture where they openly celebrate criminality, use and deal illegal drugs, shoot each other over nothing, shoot cops, commit a hugely disproportionate amount of the violent crime in this country, and that's perfectly okay. We should not imprison them for violent crimes; we should send them to cushy rehab centers instead (which we pay for, of course).

I'm tired of the victim mentality. We've pandered to this "population" for decades. Trillions of welfare dollars, special affirmative action privileges, racial preferences and set asides, lowered standards, civil rights laws (and more special preferences due to ridiculous "disparate impact" rulings) up the wazoo, and nothing is ever enough.

526 Love the prefix-kohns dumbness rating. I would humbly suggest to the author to use the really big metric prefixes (Giga, Tera) instead of milli (a thousandth). I agree millikohns is really dumb, but the Feinstein tweet should rate Gigakohns or Terakohns or even yottakohns.

527 Sen Feinstein raped me.
I demand she be thrown out of the Senate until she proves otherwise!

528 If they did their social activism on their own time no one would care. Or watch. Or pay any attention. They MUST do it on the viewer or fan's time to get any eyeballs. And make the advertisers sponsor it. It really is about making someone else, the viewers and ad buyers, pay. SJW always want the virtue with the smallest effort and someone else pay for it either by trickery or force.

530 It's NOT a First Amendment at all. The First Amendment merely provides that you cannot be prosecuted for speech. That's it. It does NOT provide that you can say whatever you want without consequences.

I wish the leftists would actually READ the Constitution.

While technically correct ("Congress shall make no law") this fails to account for the spirit of what we consider Freedom of Speech. The left loves this stuff too. Whenever someone loses their job after voicing a conservative position there's plenty of "Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences" thrown around. It creates an environment of having de facto suppression of speech, even if it's allowed de jure.

The difference that should be emphasized, is when someone is using their employer's time and resources, the employer is entitled to shut down that behavior at their whim. What people say/do/donate on their own time is their own business and enforcing "consequences" on those people is a threat to our liberty.
