Friday Night ONT: Mary Prankster Edition

Welcome to Friday y'all. I tell you, the hanging Windows update I mentioned last night has been giving me fits. Some Morons were very helpful last night, but what I was trying didn't work, and I don't know what to do. I'm sure there are a lot of updates I still need, but until I get this one fixed I can't get to them. Anyhoo, it's the weekend, have y'all got your budgets in order to have some fun?

Former agent warns the Secret Service has a troubling obsession that’s putting Trump’s life in serious danger

Ever notice that we didn't used to have loons jumping the White House fence and all of the other stuff we see almost regularly now? A new book by Dan Bongino delves into why, and he should know as he spent years on the presidential detail. Turns out the SS is more concerned with diversity in the ranks rather than competence. This leftist obsession with diversity is going to kill us all. In any organization, “diversity” (as the left means it-race and sex, certainly not ideas) can be a great thing. However, diversity is a by-product, not a goal. A good job will have people of all races, creeds and colors striving to fill it. This creates a natural diversity that can be valuable. But by setting out to be “diverse” without considering whether the people can do the actual job, all you get is chaos. Remember that if an assassin takes someone down after out running a one legged Latino lesbian midget who is providing “security” for the victim.

Living in a Leftist Paradise

Tired Of Democracy? Singapore Is for You!

The author relates how he realized, as his plane was coming in to Singapore, that he had prescription medication in his bag which would make him subject to the death penalty after he landed. Clean? Yep. Modern? Yep. Wealthy? Singapore is all of those things. You still couldn't pay me enough to live there. I'll take my nice, messy liberty, thank-you-very-much.

Teen-Adult Sex: What Every Parent Should Know

It's by Chad Felix Greene, a gay conservative who is quite open about his own teenage experiences hooking up with adult men. Not a pleasant read, but an important one.

Musical Interlude

MP.gif

How many of you have heard of Mary Prankster? If ever there was a musician that should be a Moron, it's her. A five foot nuthin', foul mouthed, tattooed, dynamo in red hightops, she was, and I mean this quite sincerely, the finest lyricist to come out of the Baltimore area since Frank Zappa. Calling her brand of music “cowpunk”, she played over 1,000 live shows in a career that spanned the decade ending in 2005.

“Tits and Whiskey” was her first big song around here, despite saying “Fuck” 13 times in the song, it received wide airplay in the Baltimore area on alternative stations.

Her catalog ran the gamut of subjects, and her songs seemed to perfectly capture the post-grunge area angst from the POV of Generation X. She wrote love songs, (Tempest);

My manner is imperious
My logic is empirical
And I'm bad at being a girlfriend
So I'm hoping for a miracle

I fear your disappointment
When I don't turn out ethereal
Though either way for me
I know it means some new material

Now don't go thinkin' that you're special
Just because you are
'Cause I'm bound to overthink it
And I always go too far

But if you think this kind of tempest
May just be your cup of tea
Then I'd like to offer you
The heart of me

Songs the highlight the troubled nihilism of a casual sex generation (Mercyfuck);

And I don't want to live anymore
And I don't want to give anymore
If I fawn, if I flirt, I just keep getting hurt
And it's taken its toll

I wish I could fuck all my sorrow away
And fuck 'til the dawn of the next fucking day
Fuck the chorus and verse, fuck the pain getting worse
Fuck it all 'til I burn

And even songs that recognize the futility of it all and the demands of adulthood (New Tricks).

Spent more years than I remember
In a club where every member
Never feels as if he quite belongs

Searching for my pleasure in
Some brand-new kind of deadly sin
My life is just as aimless as my songs

I'm gonna make it back to college
I'm gonna quit my job
I'm gonna buy the store that I'd been planning just to rob

I'm gonna teach this old dog new tricks
Drinking from the brimming cup
As soon as I wake up

Mary Prankster was obviously just a stage name, I don't know her real name, not may people do. After she hung up her Chucks, she moved to New York where, I assume, she's still active in the creative arts somehow. I'm now in my 50s, and yet I still miss gong to a smoky dive bar and watching Mary just burn the place down.

I'll leave you with “Swan Dive”. I'm happy, successful, and more confident in myself and my life than most, but this is still the best song I've ever heard for capturing that feeling that we all get sometimes, that feeling that it's all a big sham. That feeling that any second now, the fourth wall is going to pull back and we'll be standing awkward and alone on a big stage where we don't belong while the audience laughs at us.

Yeah, I'm a big fan.

Is This Some Kind of an Oak?

American oaks share a common northern ancestor

I'll just leaf this here. It's kind of acorn-y thing to say, but more than tree puns is a waste. Don't bark at me, I'm sure they won't take root in your brain, and soon you'll be able to branch out into other subjects. I may be going out on a limb here, but I bet nothing sticks.

20 Well, I took a willow stick to the ass, so I'll just have to repost my response to "Riker is actually just a Plot Device of Implausible Suaveness and is not actually a character qua character."

I agree. Riker was the beta male, and beyond that had no character of his own. Since it's Star Trek canon that the Kobayashi Maru is the gold test for character, let's do this.

I can imagine how Major Kira might handle it (terrorism). Same with O'Brien (blowing sh!t up with engineering). Or Picard (strategy and diplomacy), or Worf (blowing sh!t up with photon torpedos). Even Wesley (he'd probably get the instructors administering the test horribly killed).

I have no goddamn clue how Riker would approach it.

21 Heh, moments in great thoughts.

I frequent a site called stackoverflow for help with software development. It's become such a great Q&A site, that it has spawned other sites for other areas of expertise. There's a new one that has come up recently called Interpersonal Skills, which is really just a spot for SJW to ask dumb questions. I loved this questions so much I had to share it:

22 mnw, yeah that could explain some it. That which actually made it to Spain instead of sinking or being liberated by English seadogs.

Just remember Piper built Space Vikings around the notion that all this easy cheap wealth which the New World provided affected Spain in an economic sense, depressing local production of wealth while rewarding brigandage.

23 I lived in Singapore for 4 years. That guy is a little dramatic.

Yes, they have some weird laws. Yes, they are tough on drug traffickers. You can even buy t-shirts there mocking their laws. But we flew in and out of Singapore dozens of times and never had one damn problem. I even had a case of chewing gum in one of my bags after a home leave. Nothing happened. I seriously doubt NO ONE ever flies into Singapore with prescription drugs.

http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=7660

He makes the point that part of the process of reconciliation after the Civil War was the "adoption" of Confederate heroes as American heroes (hence the Army bases named after Confederate generals). The current PC offensive is trying to undo that process.

Trouble is, that means the other side of the compromise is in danger: the part where Southerners agreed to rejoin the Union peacefully, with no endless guerrilla warfare and terrorism.

If they're going to undo that deal, the liberals may not like what they get . . .

Played this evening and ran into another bass player from Alabama, really nice guy who asked me if I'd be interested in doing a church gig some Sundays. I've done a grand total of one in my life and screwed it up so badly I still cringe to this day. I would up just turning down my bass gradually and faking it. 224 Singapore is sort of boring (leaving aside the Four Floors of Whores, of ONT legend, I guess), but "messy liberty" is not what it replaced, or what one finds generally in its neighborhood. One finds messiness, to be sure, but no so much more liberty.

Didn't read the linked item, but it's long been a staple of not-too-worldly or bright American urban types to dump on S'pore. My favorite was a friend's sister and BIL (NYC folks), perfect examples, whining about the "police state" - um, airhead lefties from NYC, which at that time imposing limits on soda size, and cigarette sales, and gawd knows what else, under the authoritarian freak Bloomberg - all aghast at S'pore's public decency rules.

OK.

And I find it completely impossible to believe you could be executed, even arrested, in S'pore for prescription drugs for which you had the paperwork.

Food courts are good in S'pore.

This question, if you ever read Jesus Huerta de Soto, was first addressed by the Salamancan school in the 16th Century, where they pretty much explained that it was inflation caused by bringing that much wealth in and spending it, and prescribed to the Spanish crown to stop spending so much. Which was never going to happen while there was money to spend.

Dr Huerta de Soto is a wonder to read, and vastly more entertaining to listen to if you speak Spanish.

Woobie!

I think it was the early 80s when it started to be known by that name. Certainly by the time I went through basic in '86.

The classic woobie is great, but the Kifaru version is to die for. After a little research, I broke out the sewing machine and made a copy of the Kifaru woobie using similar continuous filament insulation. It's rough, but awesome.

245 Contrary to what's posted way up above, lots of people retiring in CA (and moving there to do it). Typically of means, of course. Some of the nicest, least crowded areas of SoCal have been rendered much less so the last few decades, with retirees making up much of the increase.

And "CA" or "SoCal" are pretty meaningless, as far as "live-ability" designators - lots of variation, by specific location. Visiting for limited time is great, lots to enjoy on visits, but my whole life you could not pay me to live in the LA area (defined as, now, from Irvine to Thousand Oaks, the beach to Riverside). Outside those lines, still some nice places. All depends on your interests. If those rarely lie beyond your front door, then anywhere will do.

Ehhh, maybe. Anyone who thinks orientation is all nature or all nurture is frankly looking for simple answers to complex questions. As with everything, the facts are composed of a multitude of individual experiences, all of which have different influence on who or what a person is.

Are some people gay because of gay sex during the years when their sexuality was being formed? Undoubtedly.

Are some people gay just because they are? Undoubtedly.

Are there a billion incremental points between the two? Undoubtedly.

I had success with both w7 and w8 by doing the incremental upgrade approach. Looked at the dates of the updates and only selected a few of the oldest on each pass. Cross checked the results against the installation list and tried to figure out what patch was missing if something didn't install. Usually, it seemed that by just selecting the item that failed to install and doing another install pass would clear things up.

It did take hours though because nothing had been updated for a year or more.

Statutory Rape.

Teen-Adult 'Hook-ups'.

321 279 I still hated how Abrams handled Kirk's test in the reboot. I'd have rather seen one of his failures first to see how he handles that. Or actually make his cheating look better.

OR actually have the hearing and give him the opportunity to justify his actions. Remember they were supposed to have been really impressed with what he did in cheating the KM and we got none of that.
Posted by: buzzzion at September 23, 2017 12:03 AM (cAnNx)

The more time that has passed, the more I hate nu-Trek. I was bothered by how they handled the reboot - washing everything else away. The characters don't act *in* character, except maybe for McCoy. Kirk is a spoiled child. The sets were terrible - engineering should look like a spaceship, not an oil refinery. There is just no real sense that this is Star Trek, it has a different tone and scope.

They mined WoK for plot points for *two* movies, and executed them cheaply, and the KM test was just one of them. I have become sufficiently disgusted that I avoided the latest movie and have no desire to see it or any new ones in the future.

I can't remember if he got reinstated, he was a JG anyway, so still lower than Bashir.

That was one of my problems with that show - nobody got promoted, other than Paris - demoted, changed jobs, hooked up long term, or otherwise showed any real character growth over the series run. Except maybe for the doctor. 7 of 9 had a lot of growth quickly as a plot point, but once she got where Brannon Braga wanted, all stop.

Am I really going to get my jollies off by doing sex acts with them when they are so vulnerable when probably having that happen to me screwed the hell out of me in me young life?" I am not going to get into a debate about whether sexual orientation is innate or learned-maybe it depends on the people involved-but I have known too many gay guys who have said that as kids told me they were preyed upon by adults. And JFTR, I have the same amount of loathing for women teachers in their 20's and 30's having sex with their high school male students-or female for that matter. Narcissists destroy so many people-which is what it is, in large part when you use people simply for your own satisfaction and cease to think of them as individuals you need to cherish and love. Yes, that is a spiritual problem

Teen-Adult Sex: What Every Parent Should Know

It's by Chad Felix Greene, a gay conservative who is quite open about his own teenage experiences hooking up with adult men. Not a pleasant read, but an important one.

Many years ago I had a learning experience that shattered my previously PC view of gay sexuality:

I once had a book published by a big publishing house, and the editor there who guided it from manuscript to finished book eventually became a friend of mine -- not a super-close friend, but a "good friend"-level friend. H was a gay guy, around 40 years old, who was very artistic and "sensitive" and mousy. He only like classical music -- hated rock, pop and jazz -- ballet, opera and gregorian chants. He was also single, sad and lonely because he had a weird romantic preference for aristocratic old men -- he drooled over Alastair Cooke -- but there were no aristocratic old gay men where he lived, so he was always alone.

I thought he was a rare breed: An asexual, celibate gay man. He always bemoaned being isolated and lonely and without relationships.

But then one day he DID meet an older aristocratic gay man, and for a few months they were boyfriend-and-boyfriend.

But it didn't last long. One day we had lunch, and he cried and told me that his new boyfriend had become unreasonable and that they had broken up. I asked in what way he had become unreasonable. The reply?

"He said that if we were going to remain together as a couple, then he insisted that I stop going to bathhouses. That's an absurd demand!"

I admit that I was left speechless for a moment. Wait, what? You go to bathhouses? You???

He then revealed that OF COURSE he goes to bathhouses several times a week, that he had always had done so -- that's a given, and automatic with most gay men. All that stuff about being lonely and celibate -- he was referring to being lonely and celibate when it comes to emotion-based romantic relationships. OF COURSE he needed to get his rocks off and drain his balls five or ten times a week in anonymous sexual encounters with strangers. But that didn't "count." That was just biological.

This friend of mine up until that point had been a sort of iconic stereotype in my mind: See, not all gay men have frequent anonymous sex. Some can be delicate, sensitive romantic near-virgins.

Ooops. Stereotype shattered.

All I was left with after that was the standard stereotype. Oh well. I guess stereotypes evolve for a reason.

384 In any case, I'm not aware of a cabal of so-cons and leftists "working together" to bring him down.

Socons seemed to like Milo. He said he was warmly welcomed in the South. He did an interview with one of the Duck Dynasty guys and was respectful of the man's beliefs and got respect in return. He is not a proponent of gay marriage and backed the rights of Christians to refuse to bake cakes for gay weddings.

It wasn't the Socons who brought him down, it was GOPe types who hated his support for Trump. Once again ,they were happy to ally themselves with leftists to bring down a threat to their Establishment.

I was once friends with a gay man like the one you described. A shy retiring man who loved books and art and stuck me as extremely cultured. I worked in his bookstore occasionally. I felt bad for him. He seemed lonely.

One day, I overheard him chatting about going to Union Station to have sex with guys in the men's room there and also about the "P street beach" in DC, a notorious gay pickup spot He and his gay friend were bragging about how often they had sex in those spots during the past month - dozens of times. Then he noticed I was standing there and gave a panicked "Shut up" look to his friend.

It really wrecked the image I had had of him.

386 I grew up in the suburbs in the 70s and as a teen was ultra naive. Got a job as a cashier through a buddy's family at a grocery store close to downtown. The shit that I saw when we went out to retrieve stolen carts floored me. I didn't know it before taking the job but where this store was located was was a gay hotspot in the city. I was young 17 and saw way younger boys essentially hooking in the neighborhood. Now I'm not John Kerry but that shit was seared into my memory.

I am thawing the pork shoulder and have bought the basic spices you listed. I'm gonna skip the mustard recipe though. Got my pellet smoker a couple months ago and have not hated anything so far. So I'll probably do OK accidentally.

391 If a pound of dollars is worth approx. $450, then to carry the same dollar amount in kwacha you would need to lug around about 5000 pounds of kwacha. That is assuming that a kwacha weighs approx. 1 gram also. Don't do bank robbery in Zambia. Malawi kwacha is a much better bet, but it would still be, literally, a ton of work carrying the money away.

392 Also, in tonight's episode of Guess The State, there was the infamous case some years ago of the 18-year-old (legal adult) cute, blonde, high school senior cheerleader and her trysts in the girls' room at skool with her 14-year-old "classmate" and later, whilst out on bail under charges of statutory rape, at the very same beach where Adam Walsh's severed head was found!

She was made a Grand Marshall of the NYC Pride Parade before her story fell apart about her being 17, and her victim, 15, when the events occurred...

Stacy McCain had the scoop on that sordid mess...

402 to do the apple sauce and/or mustard paste like i brainstormed/farted last night, i'd do what i do with horseradish for my prime rib paste: dump an amount of the moisture rich material into a fine mesh strainer, over a larger bowl, then bounce the contents over it, causing the excess liquid to remove itself.

then take the drained solid material and mix in the other ingredients, then apply finished product to the meat in question. i've never reserved the horseradish liquid in the past, but that oversight will be corrected going forward.

as for misting the meat with cider, what have you, there's two schools of thought on that, and some debate as to it's efficacy.

for one thing, you have to open the cooking chamber to do it, and, as they say "if you're lookin' you ain't cookin'..." every time you do that, you deviate from your desired cook temp, and a stable temp for long periods is a BIG help to turning out good Q. it's the long, slow, steady temp progression that causes the meat to self-tenderize, especially with brisket.

the best thing about experimenting with Q is that, unless you REALLY screw up, disposing of the test materials is fun. just take copious notes: relying on memories isn't reliable.

the one where the dude was essentially saying "please clap" was priceless, as was the GOPe getting dissed.

and the cheers over the NFL comment? yeah, the professional bed wetters are wrong on that one to, yet again and still. that will be popular everywhere the NFL isn't thee days, which is where their bread is buttered.

Trump knows his base.

408 Apparently Trump all but admitted it was a mistake to endorse Strange at Strange's rally tonight. "Maybe I made a mistake, but loyalty" or something along those lines. So basically he thinks Strange is toast but he's not going to ditch him just to be a fair weather endorser.

So I'm just left wondering who thought it was good to endorse him in the first place and why? Did Trump decide himself thinking it would be a good way to show the GOPe that he's willing to do business with them so they should be willing to return the favor. Or was it one of his underlings that convinced him this would be the good way to get those assholes in the senate on his side?

Posted by: buzzion at September 23, 2017 03:35 AM (cAnNx)

409 Trump said that Strange would have an easier win in the general. I've seen some quotes from Moore that make me think the same.

I love that he said, "Eh. I could have been wrong."
