Bosch Ship of Fools.jpg

The Ship of Fools
Or The Satire Of The Debauched Revelers,
Or An Allegory Of Gluttony
Hieronymus Bosch

Here we have the all-too-frequent issues with color transfer from real to film to digital to computer screen.

Here is a better version, but smaller, so I couldn't use it for the post.

And here....
And here....
And here....
And finally here...

97 Students find works like this very interesting in that it's not what they expect from the time period. They think that this was a time of strict religious adherence (and for some, oppression). So when they see a work like this that calls members of the clergy "fools", it confuses them. They also like Bosch's more famous "Garden of Earthly Delights" but are again confused because that's an altarpiece. "How in the world was that allowed?"

It's a nice demonstration of how human nature never changes and that there will always be imperfection and corruption in even the most holy of settings. People do see it. Those in authority are not invisible--not forever.

123 I never know what to make of Hieronymus Bosch paintings. There's no question of his technical skills and his color schemes, which vary from work to work, are brilliant. But many of the scenes feel like a combination of Salvadore Dali and Rod Serling. This isn't necessarily bad, just difficult to predict or imagine. The paintings do make me wish I knew more of the symbolism in them.

I also can not figure out if he was having a good time showing these 'sin' scenes or if he's like a preacher that gets all excited talking about sin in his sermons.

It was because Preet was doing the bidding of Schumer to control the political chess board by removing political rivals.

And who do you think submitted to the FISA court the application for surveillance of Trump Towers and Mike Manafort? The U.S. Attorney from New York City, which would be who?

Symbols in paintings back then were so important for a largely illiterate population, that we forget how they were used. 212 Reading last night, found a good explanation on PDT's maneuvers on Alabama Senate (Republican) runoff:
PDT endorsing Strange was necessary seeing that Strange voted in favor of Trump as a senator, so Trump really should support him back. It would send a conflicted message to other Rep senators to not do so.
Even in outwardly supporting establishment Strange, if Moore wins, Trump still gets a strong supporter, albeit not an 'establishment' one.

It's a win for Trump, even if he isn't playing any chess here. He doesn't really have to.

Alabamians that care about our country and draining the swamp saw and heard what type of shenanigans went on in Miss with Cochran.

It's possible that Strange can win, but the wind down here is blowing in the direction of Moore, mostly because it's sort of another bitch-slap at Washington DC, in general.

My guess is Obama will never shut up, because that is who he is, and that is what the left does.

Even more irritating is that I grudgingly acknowledge that he is shrewd enough to select the spots where he shares his wisdom and loping elegance with the mortal rest of us. That way it will look as if he was trying to stay quiet and respectful, but was (1) reluctantly dragged into it by a cause or person in dire need; or (2) thought it was a matter of such gravity that the nation needed his counsel.

255 I'm trying to think which GOP Senators Corker is referring to, when he says some might "resign" if Moore wins.

I presume when Corker says "resign" that he means "won't seek reelection."

Assuming for the moment that Corker isn't totally full of shit, the only two possibilities I can suggest are Flake & Heller, both of whom already have primary opponents from the right-- formidable in Flake's case, and annoying-bordering-on-serious in Heller's. Heller is probably an underdog in the GE, even if he survives the GOP primary.

So... I could easily see Flake deciding to hang it up, whether Moore wins or not.

I notice that Flake & Hellet have both gotten them some o' that oletime populist conservative religion of late, btw. A serious primary opponent concentrates the mind wonderfully.

McCain escaped being beaten in the primary (imo) because he had seven opponents, instead of ONE-- Dr. Keli Ward, who looks good to take out Flake at the moment.

My wife has Windows 7 and updates are still available. I looked at loading Windows 7 on my computer but I would have had to format the hard drive and reload from scratch. Also the download version of available from Amazon was $200. You can no longer buy a computer that comes with Windows 7. I guess the Microsnot Monopoly has struck again.
All that being said I have not had any problems with Window 10 per se. But a lot of the programs that I was forced to buy because my older versions would not run on Windows 10 are really are lot more shitty than their original version. The latest version of Calender Creator for Windows 10 just sucks, but there is no other worthwhile calender program that I can find. One came with Windows 10 but it sucks worse.

We were inside a finished home, so I casually walked over to the thermostat and surreptitiously kicked that sucker down to 62 degrees and finished my spiel standing over a floor register.

Fortunately, they were all guys and construction guys at that. They probably didn't notice a thing. But all I could think was, "Are you KIDDING me!?!?!

Here it is:
Imagine then a fleet or a ship in which there is a captain who is taller and stronger than any of the crew, but he is a little deaf and has a similar infirmity in sight, and his knowledge of navigation is not much better.

The sailors are quarreling with one another about the steering; every one is of the opinion that he has a right to steer, though he has never learned the art of navigation and cannot tell who taught him or when he learned, and will further assert that it cannot be taught, and they are ready to cut in pieces any one who says the contrary.

They throng about the captain, begging and praying him to commit the helm to them; and if at any time they do not prevail, but others are preferred to them, they kill the others or throw them overboard, and having first chained up the noble captain's senses with drink or some narcotic drug, they mutiny and take possession of the ship and make free with the stores; thus, eating and drinking, they proceed on their voyage in such a manner as might be expected of them. . . .

About the only football nooz I pay any attention to these days is what a stumbling clusterfark of a miserable failure that league and those two LA teams are.

It warms my cold heart that the Chargers can't sell out a 27000 seat stadium.

355 If Moore wins, will the GOPe get spooked and stop stonewalling? Will they realize that they themselves are the biggest threat to keeping their own seats? I sure hope not.

They throng about the captain, begging and praying him to commit the helm to them; and if at any time they do not prevail, but others are preferred to them, they kill the others or throw them overboard, and having first chained up the noble captain's senses with drink or some narcotic drug, they mutiny and take possession of the ship and make free with the stores; thus, eating and drinking, they proceed on their voyage in such a manner as might be expected of them. . . .

Oh, I see. It's the Republican Party, then.

358 What happened to Ralph Peters? Okay, he doesn't like Trump and was probably blindsided when he won. The guy sprays spittle all over whenever "Putin" or "Russia" are mentioned. But what I really want to know is , Does Peters actually believe Trump was colluding with the Russians?

360 By the 2018 election at the latest. Mean survival time for his type of cancer is 6 to 18 months with treatment, IIRC.

I'm a firm believer in Pascal's Law. If there has ever been anyone in the whole history of brain cancer who actually beat that horrible disease, McCain will too.

361 Some sane people snook up behind Ralph, gagged him, threw a tow sack over his head and dragged him to the loony bin.

I respected him very much, until he went 'round the bend.

Well I tried it and still having the same problem . Word2000 will not save files created using Windows 10. I lost a whole Morning Report links file due to that before I switched to open office which runs fine in Windows 10. I even tried reinstalling Word2000 from scratch.

But what is funny is that Excel2000 from the same version of office runs fine. Haven't tried the database program. I no longer use that since I retired.
