In a time when federalism meant something, the Federal government got into the banking business in the 1800s but never had the same compelling interest to get into the insurance business, which remained a state prerogative. In time, the special interests in keeping insurance a state-by-state thing have only gotten stronger.
Health insurance is no longer Insurance, and the Federal involvement in healthcare is so extensive, that I see Healthcare Insurance as an exception to any States Rights argument. Only the crazy "Conservative" Purists will disagree.

State's rights. State insurance commissioners can require insurers to meet differing levels of standards, especially including financial standards. If you force states to accept all insurers from other states, you will essentially federalize the industry. Insurers on the federal approved list will be forced down the states' throats.
This is not a move that inspires a lot of confidence for me. More power accrues to the feds. Eventually, the feds will abuse that power.
They always do. That's the downside imho.

Yep. Most of the 90's is 20 years and more now. As you point out, in the mid 70's, that meant the pioneering rock n roll records. Oldies. Also, stylistically, the 90's has more in common with the 70's, than with the music (or "music") of today. It's not just time, but sound, also.

I tend to refer to Trump conversationally as "President Hobson", as in the classical "Hobson's choice", which isn't a choice in any meaningful sense of the word.
I thought the guy was unstable, unpredictable, philosophically unmoored, dangerously ill-informed, and temperamentally unfit. On that last point, we just HAD a pathological clinical narcissist in the Oval Office for two terms. Another one? Oh sweet Jeebus. Someone with some healthy humility would have been a welcome change.
But... a choice between President Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump, despite all of his bigly manifest faults, wasn't a choice at all. It goes to show that no matter what a rolling dumpster fire Trump was, that I and a whole bunch of other people simply wouldn't consider either voting for his opponent or sitting it out. And here we are now.
At the end of the day, I increasingly figure this will be a second George W. Bush presidency. To wit, one which then results in the election of someone from the opposing party who would previously have been viewed as too unthinkably odd and extreme to even be considered at all as a primary candidate, much less in the general election. Say hello to President Kamala Harris, or worse. And then that's the ball game.

So your options are limited, like mine are limited. You can support candidates to Trump's Right. You can write articles proposing policies which Trump can take. You might even point out a specific bad policy (like DACA) and suggest ways we can make a stink about it.

In such a case, the states could convene an Article 5 convention, and pass an Amendment. Or, we can continue electing conservatives to Congress and the Presidency, and eventually the balance of the SC will shift, and so can the law of the land.
There are remedies, but they are painfully slow.

Former welfare caseworker here. Actually the child would qualify for SSI, not SSDI...unless he or she worked the required 40 quarters for Social Security Retirement, Disability or Survivor's. SSI is currently $733/month (unless there is some modifying factor), plus it covers medical care and the recipient usually gets food stamps.
I have what I think is a worse example. I had a case of a child receiving medical assistance in spite of the fact that every single member of the family was here illegally. Usually people claim that this is impossible. However, the child had a disease or condition (can't remember now) that rendered all of his care to be necessary or he would die. This is the same loophole that pays for a pregnant woman to have care in a hospital while she gives birth, even if she is undocumented. I remember speaking to an incredulous health care worker and saying, yes, you understood that correctly. One can't help but feel sorry for the child, but sheesh! If every seriously ill child came here, even without permission, well...I guess we'd be on the hook for them.
