Quotes of The Day

Quote I

One thing I am convinced more and more is true and that is this: the only way to be truly happy is to make others happy. When you realize that and take advantage of the fact, everything is made perfect. William Carlos Williams

Quote II

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.” Deuteronomy 5:21

Politicians should pay attention to this command.

Quote III

Society is produced by our wants, and government by wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher. Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil. Thomas Paine

The ONT has a new hero. Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich. Law enforcement continues to grow politically correct. Not this Sheriff.

“You started glorifying cultures of violence — you’ve glorified the gang culture, you’ve glorified games that actually give you points for raping and killing people. Gun didn’t change. We changed,” Knezovich said in response to a question from the media about guns.

When another reporter pressed the gun issue, Knezovich again stated the obvious:

“It all depends on the 15-year-old. I can tell you, folks, I carried a gun all my life. I hunted, I shot. My friends and I… It’s huntin’ season back home. When I was in high school, every one of those rigs in the high school parking lot had a gun in the gun rack. Why? We went huntin’ on the way home. None of those guns ever walked into a school. None of those guns ever shot anybody. What’s the difference? Did the gun change? Or did you, as a society, change? I’ll give ya odds that it was you as a society, because you started glorifying cultures of violence. You glorified the gang culture, you glorified games that actually give you points for raping and killing people. The gun didn’t change, we changed.”

I suspect we all know someone, perhaps even ourselves, who have been suckered into a bad car purchase. The ONT is always looking out for you Morons.

Buying a used car can be a little trickier than purchasing a new one. When it comes to used cars there are numerous pitfalls to watch out for—persistent mechanical issues, weird smells, questionable choices on the radio’s presets—but where you buy the car shouldn’t be one of them. If you are looking for a pre-owned car from a dealership look for these red flags before you even walk through the door.

If Democrats are so f*cking great, why do they run such huge deficits?

Even in deep blue Connecticut—one of just six states in the country where Democrats control both halves of the state legislature and the governor's mansion right now—the suggestion of a $1.8 billion tax increase has incited a political revolution.

Three Senate Democrats and five Democrats in the state House bailed on a plan to impose an array of new taxes, including a 75 percent wholesale tax on electronic cigarettes and other vaping products that likely would have killed dozens of small businesses in the state. The budget plan proposed by Gov. Dannel Malloy also would have hiked taxes on cellphone bills, vacation homes, hospitals, cigarettes, hotel rooms, ride-sharing services, nonprescription drugs, and fantasy sports gaming, the Hartford Courant reported.

Be thankful we don't take it all.

Would you like to create shit-storm chaos? Just publish an article extolling Colonialism.

Bruce Gilley of Portland State University (image above) published an article titled “The Case for Colonialism” in the decidedly anti-Colonial journal Third World Quarterly (home of the Edward Said Award).

In its self-description, Third World Quarterly writes:

TWQ examines all the issues that affect the many Third Worlds and is not averse to publishing provocative and exploratory articles, especially if they have the merit of opening up emerging areas of research that have not been given sufficient attention.

Gilley is no newcomer to controversy.

Just last month, Gilley published a piece in Minding the Campus on his resignation from the American Political Science Association (ASPCA), over its lack of ‘viewpoint diversity’ (Gilley self-identifies in that piece as an independent and swing voter)

My guess? He would have been better off butchering an infant and crucifying a puppy.

Bill and Melinda Gates are looking for leaders where no leaders exist.

“Who are the 12 people you would go to instantly to talk about development?” Melinda Gates asks.
It’s become a harder question to answer in recent years. At the United Nations general assembly (UNGA) a year ago, the billionaire philanthropist worried that global development was losing its intellectual stars. A generation of leaders was starting to retire or pull back from prominence, including people whom organizations such as the Ford Foundation originally identified and supported years ago.
“That list is starting to get more thin,” Gates said in a recent interview. “And so as we start to think about the future, I was like, wow, we need to really have that thought leadership again and we need to make sure it’s driven by the South,” i.e., by the countries that development work is meant to benefit.

You mean coddled little whiny snowflakes aren't the answer? Who f*cking knew?

Men. The world is our urinal and we are better at physics.

A trio of Australian academics say that the gender gap in physics — boys being better at the subject than girls — can be traced to the “pee games” in which boys engage during their youth.

Anna Wilson (Australian National University), Kate Wilson and David Low (University of New South Wales Canberra) contend seriously (but with a bit of needed humor) that “playful urination practices – from seeing how high you can pee to games such as Peeball (where men compete using their urine to destroy a ball placed in a urinal) – may give boys an advantage over girls,” according to an article in Tes.com.

Physics? Name, snow, penmanship some assembly required.

They ran on it. They passed it countless times when The JEF was POTUS. Will the GOP Senate pass Repeal and Replace of Obamacare?

A last-ditch effort by Senate Republicans to repeal and replace ObamaCare is gaining steam, suggesting lawmakers could face another vote on ending the former president’s signature law later this month.

Supporters do not have the 50 votes necessary to pass the bill yet, but pressure is growing on Republicans to back the measure, which could replace much of ObamaCare with block grants for states.

In a crucial boost for its chances on Monday, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) offered his support.

Bathroom equality is a thing with the femiNazi SJW types.

The complaint is that the women's bathrooms get clogged up at public facilities, but the men's are fine. So they want to force them to put more women's bathrooms in at the expense of men's rooms to even that out.

The trouble is women take too long to pee, and the lines back up.

There is a solution. It's a pee funnel thingy that allows women to pee standing up easily. So put urinals in the women's rooms with disposable funnel dispensers above them.

Colonialism has been more beneficial to the indigenous people by and large (just ask any widow in India), but it has been a clusterf*ck, a tarbaby for us by and large. We should NEVER have gotten involved in any of these places, if for no other reason than that liberals have successfully used this as a guilt-bludgeon, one of their main tools to destroy Western civilization. 163 RE: the colonialism guy. I had a girlfriend in the early '80s who had a professor at UT Austin that advanced the theory that slavery by the early USA actually raised the standard of living of Black Sub-Saharans in a "Great Leap Forward" by eventually integrating tribal Africans into Western society and mores who in turn eventually "returned to Africa" and with their Western education created more nation States out of tribal territories than colonialism ever did.
If that same professor taught that today he would be set on fire in front of the tower and drawn and quartered. It's kind of a bogus theory anyway.

Try not to get to taken in by someone sorta half defending guns and taking on the anti-gun lobby when in the next breath they're basically extolling the virtues of censorship.

There are actually studies that show that taking out whatever frustrations you have that leads you to enjoy "raping and killing" in GTA make you LESS likely to do so in real life.

Most of the people that carry out these kinds of acts are disturbed lunatics. They weren't made that way by playing video games.

Guys walking to school in ROTC uniforms carrying their rifles for target practice later. 325 Rand Paul: the man who saved Obamacare over and over. "What, me? I
only wanted a REAL repeal! Save Obamacare? Moi? Surely you jest!"
---

It's like he's on some sort of a vision quest like a knight of yore, looking for a pure virgin for a wife.

"You were kissed once by your male cousin? Not a pure virgin."

"You saw two dogs doing it in the stable? Not a pure virgin"

"You rode a horse once? Not a pure virgin."

"You heard a saucy limerick in town and didn't understand it? Not a pure virgin."

Instead he's searching for a pure repeal, which, like the pure virgin, may or may not exist. Rand might have all the time in the world to wait and search for his pure repeal, but in the meantime the rest of us cannot wait, since we're getting screwed 110 different ways by Obamacare.

the expression "circle of friends" is said to have originated on the pioneer trail.

on the plains, there were few trees, so when a woman had to pee, her closest female friends would make a circle around her (facing outward of course) to make a portable pee place.

they were her circle of friends.

388 Those getting seriously screwed by O-care - like $10-14K/year+ excise tax-equivalent, finances-changing, life-changing screwed - will probably get zero relief from the bill Rand is opposed to.

Have the pretty strong impression that almost everyone here has barely felt the effects of O-care. 20% premium increases? Some disruption in networks? There are close to 20 million who can only dream of such a paradise. Try the "individual" market. 400% increases (in the first year alone). More increases since (for those who have not simply opted to go naked - for the first time in their lives). Yes, all true - though more secret than stealth technology was in the 80s (no press, and unless it affects you, today --- what? haven't heard of that!)

The "phased" approach (which this bill could be part of) has lacked credibility from the outset, due to both the GOPe/Congress AND the administration.

Neither side is forcing show-downs or accountable big votes on this. Trump has sounded like he'll sign *anything* put in front of him, and continues to prop up the tiny, ridiculous subsidized O-care system with illegal payments; you know Congress' story.

But none of the party's proposals have been the repeal they've been advertised as; the GOP refuses to make any hard choices on this issue (by actually keeping its word, for example). And Paul has really done no more than refuse to aid them in covering themselves in a fig leaf.

If you think olives and onions take over a pie, wait until you try anchovies. Salty fish kind of overrides everything else.

I like a good white pizza, and I don't mind peppers or pepperoni on pizza. I like slices of fresh tomato too, provided the tomato is ripe.

But onions, mushrooms and sausage remain the perfect combo for me and must haves on a regular (not white) pizza. I love black olives, but to me they just don't taste right on pizza.

478 Speaking of stubborn mules, the folks around here (well the older ones used to , and they're just about all gone, now) would tell me I reminded them of my great-uncle Walter, my paternal grandfather's kid brother.

He was stubborn and liked to argue. However, they say I'm the spittin' image of my grandfather, so much like him it's spooky, and make them believe in reincarnation, but that I've got the stubborn streak more like Uncle Walter.

I never knew either of them, they were dead before I was born.

Uncle Walter they said used to argue, and one fellow one time, said, "Walter, your're right. You've changed my mind. I agree with you". They said Uncle Water then said, "No, you were right!" and began arguing the other side.

Uncle Walter's wife died fairly young, and he lived a long life afterwards by himself. He didn't want a phone when those came around. And he though Social Security was the Mark of the Beast.

He kept a couple of mules out in his barn, even after he no longer had any use for them. Too old. They said he actually loved to go out and "argue", fuss with those mules.

He met his end one night. Late one night that barn caught fire. Uncle Walter's remains were found in the ashes.

They figured out what happened. He saw the fire and ran out to save his mules. He did get them out, but didn't make it himself. He died with his boots on, fighting that blaze, I'm sure. But he saved his mules. And got himself killed.

I wouldn't do too well with them, I don't think.

There's a guy around here -- likes to do things the old way, old fashioned, into antiques and old stuff, who bought himself a mule. It's been a while. Anyway, he was training that mule to plow and all that sorts of stuff.

And he wanted to use some of the land all around to "walk" the thing, and all that. They've got a bunch of land themselves, but wanted to go all around the neighbors and all that. We were glad to let him.

Anyway, we were out in the shop, and here he comes up with that mule. It was a she, named "Rosie".

For some reason, Rosie wanted to get frisky with me. Sticking her snout in my back when I wasn't looking.

No, I don't think I'd gee haw too well with a mule.

520 Looking at the "genius award" video, it looks to me like a bunch of millennial biker/hipsters rolled up on a man who, because he was driving a pickup truck, they thought it would be fun to bird-dog and harass. Watch how the lead "kid" catches up with him, slows Down to match his speed, then starts yelling something at the driver and flipping him off. Looks like the motorcycle pack chased the man.

Also, the fat Okie wasn't the one who administered the beat-down: the other pickup driver was. I also see that several pickup drivers with good ole boys arrived on the scene, and the bikers' crests drooped pretty fast when they saw they'd get a lickin'.

The fat Okie's parting comment was to tell the boys to "enjoy themselves" and that he "prayed for everybody."

But he's fat. And an Okie. And yeah, a hothead.

528 From the Hawaiian pizza article, your daily dose of no-escapism:

It also helped, and perhaps partially inspired [Panopoulos], that it was in the 1950s and 1960s when not only pizza was beginning to come into its own in North America, but a very Americanized version of "Tiki" culture was also sweeping through the region. It popularly started with millions of young men returning home from the Pacific Theater after experiencing South Pacific culture for the first time. Soon barrels of rum, girls in hula skirts, and tiki torches were a popular entertaining form of escapism and relaxation. Of course, the North American version of tiki culture then and now bears little resemblance to the real thing, and the actual origins are very religious in nature. This has led some who feel the whole thing is more than a little culturally offensive to compare it to, say, having fruity alcoholic beverages complete with umbrellas and cross straws, all served in drinking glasses made in the shape of Jesus' and Muhammad's heads, perhaps throwing in some Buddha statues and calling the whole thing "Jewish Culture", just to make it more analogous to the mishmash that is tiki bars.

532 Greetings all...

Pizza, one of my favorite subjects. Don't mind Hawaiian pizza, but rarely make it myself. One of my favorites is caramelized onion, goat cheese, and a little coarse sea salt. No sauce, just a bit of olive oil brushed onto the crust. Use lots of onions because they cook down a lot when you caramelize them. Slice them really thin.

When I make a batch of hot dog onions (the kind I the red sauce), I start with six large Spanish onions. I don't slice them too thin as I'd end up with pureed onion. I slice them a little thicker, sweat them down (without oil), then cook them with the tomato sauce and seasonings and spices for hours until I get onion pudding. My hot dog onions never fall off the hot dog onto one's shirt, as is right and proper.

I am reminded of a Letter to the Editor of a newspaper in Virginia (or it may have been the Washington Compost) back when Virginia began running a lottery. The author from Roanoke noted that there had been many winners, with most of them from either the vicinity of Richmond, Washington DC, or Norfolk-Virginia Beach, the major population centers of the state. The writer's seemingly earnest question was, "When would SW Virginia's turn come to have a lottery winner?"

Obviously, Powerball is one thing. But I've read of a woman -- you'd have to consider her a professional gambler -- in my state who had some sort of 'system' for buying scratch off lottery tickets and would travel all over the state, noticing where past winners had purchased and avoiding those locations, keying on areas that had not had a winner.

Impossible to determine the extent of her losses, but she won a couple million by her determination. Apparently perhaps, the state 'seeds' winners by location by some sort of formula.
