Speaking of power loss. A neighbor was having a big ass tree taken down yesterday. So the power company cut off the power to more than 30 homes for seven hours while the work was done.

The crew boss claimed he asked for the power company to somehow put something (I guess some sort of sheath) on the wires and they refused.

Anyway, I want to shoot somebody. But who?

There is nothing you can put on the wires to protect them from a falling tree. But what surprises me is the 7 hours thing. They should have waited until they were actually cutting the tree to cut power and therefore it would have been lost for only a few minutes.

The tree was probably 100 feet tall. It took more than three hours to finish the work.

Big old bucket truck and about five guys, chipper, etc.

77 Top o' the morning. 68� here in Fayetteville NC and Carolina blue skies. Another good day to go to the gun range and increase my proficiency with my new pistol.

I tried it out for the first time yesterday after working all day. Not too bad. The G-26 shoots real nice. The sights are easy to see and line up. Out to 10 yards, every shot was inside the seven ring with most inside the nine ring and six shots in the ten ring. Like I said, I was tired. Today I'm going to take more time. I'm also going to run the target out to the full 25 yards and see how it does. I also tried one magazine on head shots at seven yards.

All in all, not too bad for a gun I wasn't used to. And the Glocks are real easy to field strip for cleaning.

79 Harbor Freight ( I know) has a decent little 2kw generator for $400. It's bit enough to run a fridge and some lights, and is reasonably quiet. It will not run a full sized microwave or AC, but they do have a provision to gang two for 4kw total.

90 Honda eu2000i is a good small generator, 1.6kw continuous, will run a refrigerator, a few lights, or television etc. 4 to 8 hours on a gallon of gasoline depending on load. Don't let anybody tell you they are quiet. The Hondas and Yamahas are definitely "less loud" than the cheapies though. For the most part a natural gas or propane might be the way to go.

No. I spent 3 years recruiting, it was a demanding process from medical to legal to ensure that qualified individuals were allowed to enlist. DACA made the illegals "legal" for service, which is why they can throw that garbage about "many serving on the front lines" crap. But the pricetag for an individual servicemember is high and when fraudulent enlistments are found, the individual is removed as quickly and promptly as possible. No benefits, no transition preparation, just cut the cord as quickly as possible.

I don't know if this is the best strategy, but l bought a small (2000w ?) generator and put it away unopened. I realize there is a slight risk that something could be wrong with it, but I'm confident enough that it will start if I ever need it. Our power almost never goes out here, so I'm saving it for a real emergency.

187 The larger generators, capable of providing juice to the whole house, are a good case for buying the cheaper HF units. They are loud, but they shouldn't be needed very often. Hopefully. The top tier brands are relatively expensive for an item that won't be needed very often. The portable units are slick though - love the Honda, and I'm told the Yamaha is very good as well. About a thousand bucks, and that is spendy compared to 400, but the quality of the electricity output is a lot better. And they will run and run. Great for camping or providing power for construction sites. Sump pumps etc. Not needed very often, a real godsend when they are.

Ok thanks. It makes sense that it's ok because small engines including Briggs and Stratton and Honda are made in China now. I'd use non ethanol fuel and fuel stabilizer though.

Part of my thinking about getting the 2k generator is that I could use it for backup for the motorhome, or to loan or give away if needed. As it was on Monday and Tuesday, it was easier to get out and hookup than deploying the MH. Only drawback was that I had to switch between powering the fridge and the freezer in the garage every 4 hours or so. The 6kw would have handled both easily but probably would have used more gas.

I have had very good luck with their products - cars, mowers and other small engines - so I'm expecting good things from the little generator if we ever loose power for an extended time. The idea is not to run the whole house, but to use it to run the refrigerator periodically and recharge batteries.

That Breitbart article (that Vic linked above) says a pro-amnesty organization did a study and concluded that only 5% of the over-age-18 800k DACA illegals have college qualifications. That is a much lower percentage than same-age people in the citizen population.

BTW, that BB article reports on what I was talking about yesterday -- that thousands of these DACA illegals have already scammed the system and applied for green cards. Over a thousand have already been awarded U.S. citizenship, with all the rights (including chain migration) that that entails.

204 About ten years ago, we rented a 4 kw mitsibushi generator to run the power on our 35' travel trailer. We had it for a month and ran it 24/7. It was fairly quiet and never had a hiccup. And a full tank would run it around 13 or 14 hours.

I loved the museum with some of the hokey retro displays where you'd push a button and things would move back and forth. The old trains in the roundhouse were impressive. The Mt. Clair yard oversaw a secondary yard adjacent to the museum that was only used for the few low volume bidnesses around there. A few times I had to check something there in the middle of the night; in addition to it being really isolated the fucking rats were as big as small dogs.
