Marco Pierre White, born with a silver foot in his mouth. This guy wouldn't know class if it hit him up along side the head.

Marco Pierre White Jr has issued a grovelling apology after he posted a disgusting tweet in the wake of Friday morning's Parsons Green terror attack.
Within hours of the blast that injured at least 29 people, the son of celebrity chef Marco Pierre White tweeted: 'Parsons Green tube station this morning was targeted by terrorists, this is why I don't take the tube #TheRichDontDie (sic).'

The insensitive message sparked a furious backlash online.

Charming young man.

Laws! We don't need no stinkin' laws!!!!

A federal judge issued a ruling Friday that blocks the Justice Department from requiring cities to cooperate with federal immigration authorities in order to be considered eligible for federal law enforcement grants.
The ruling blocks nationwide enforcement of two of the three new conditions the Justice Department sought to impose on jurisdictions seeking funds through the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant, which doles out nearly $400 million to state and local agencies each year.

Unelected, lifetime appointed King judge strikes again at the Rule of Law.

"You can't prove a negative." NC woman invents spray to attract Sasquatch.

The nation’s endless search for proof of Bigfoot’s existence may soon come to an end.

A North Carolina-based wife and mother has home brewed a spray that she says can attract any Bigfoot within a mile and a half.

Sold at $7 a bottle, the “environmentally friendly” Bigfoot Juice also doubles as a bug spray, said creator Allie Megan Webb, who runs Happy Body Care out of Marion. She created it sitting at her kitchen table.

The ONT wonders if Mike Hammer has a bottle or two sitting around.

Baltimore Ravens to have unique game day promotion. DNA Test Kits to be given away.

Gone are the days when sports team giveaways were limited to T-shirts, bobbleheads, free-sandwich coupons and the like.

The tens of thousands of fans entering M&T Bank Stadium for the Ravens’ home opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday will receive free DNA test kits.

It’s an approach stretching the usual giveaway model, and likely to generate fan buzz. The club calls it “one of the most innovative events a partner has ever spearheaded.”

Baltimore Ravens Buffoons.

More NFL, Aaron Rodgers opens his mouth and reveals he is an asshole too.

Gifted, rich and oblivious to the people who made him rich.

Instead of manning up, Rent-A Cop causes quite a commotion in and around a university.

The security officer, Brent Patrick Ahlers, 25, of St. Louis Park, was arrested Wednesday. He has been charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, and will likely be released from the Ramsey County jail after being booked and fingerprinted, police said.

“Last night I was talking to you about an incident that shocked the community,” Sgt. Mike Ernster said at a short news conference Wednesday night.

“It had basically 1,800 students held captive in their dorm rooms at St. Catherine’s, it had residents of the Mac-Groveland and Highland Park communities fearing they would be hurt in their homes.”

Ernster said 55 police officers and four K-9s, as well as a State Patrol aircraft, joined in the search for a suspect on Tuesday night. Scanner reports described a man in a navy blue sweatshirt and black jeans. Ahlers was taken to Regions Hospital with noncritical injuries.

Misdemeanor? He's one lucky stupid S.O.B.

Saturday science lesson. ElectroBOOM style.

Paws or no paws. Your humble Cob will stomp on them every time.

Aren't spiders just adorable? Well ok, in most cases they're bloody terrifying, but that image might change when you take a closer look. As close as to where their feet should be, where you'll find that they have...paws!
In more scientific terms, a spider's "paw" is called a tarsus, and it's only one of eight parts that make up a rather complicated leg. Just like cats or dogs, spiders also have claws attached to the paws, but in their case, legs also work as ears and nose picking up subtle changes in the air to hear and recognize smells.

81 Unelected, lifetime appointed King judge strikes again at the Rule of Law.

Lifetime appointments require extra scrutiny and oversight. Congress has the responsibility to impeach and toss these insane judges the minute they show that they're out of their friggin minds and make un-Constitutional decisions. This is Congress' job. Congress takes oaths to defend and protect the Constitution same as the judiciary and when a judge makes a mockery of that oath it is to Congress to have him immediately removed and thrown on the street.

Lifetime appointments are such powerful and dangerous things that those who have ultimate power over them cannot shirk their duty.

Personally, I would love to amend the Constitution to get rid of these idiotic lifetime appointments. It's clear that lifetime appointments don't remove politics from the decisions but actually do the opposite.

I've never read the herniatic novel upon which it is based, but evidently it also has a leprous hobo offering to orally service one of the boys. Sure, it's probably the germphobic sexually repressed kid's worst nightmare, but it's also King putting another awful image in his readers' minds.

Serious Cat: Hi Lisa, are you enjoying the cooler weather? It seems like autumn is around the corner.

Lisa: Hi Brendan-while I'm sad to see the summer end, I'm definitely enjoying the beginning of Fall weather. How about you? Looks like you enjoy skiing so I would imagine you're a fan of winter?

Serious Cat: Yup! I've always preferred cooler weather to warm. And skiing is one of my favorite things to do. Your profile mentions you enjoy skiing; are you currently active? I recently picked it up again after a 15 year absence by joining a local ski club.

My favorite Irish story: my wife and I signed up for one of those fly-around-the-world-in-seven-segments special deals that you can get through the various airline alliances. Our last stop before returning home was Dublin. We'd been in Japan, Thailand, India, Dubai, Egypt, Prague, etc., etc.

We went to an Irish pub, and my wife tries to order a glass of water from the waitress . . . speaking really, really slowly and gesturing with her hands to mimic opening a tap and a glass of water.

The waitress gets this kind of far-away, incredulous look on her face and then, finally after a long, awkward pause, says "We do speak English here, you know."

173 148 The Irish iirc do try to teach Gaelic in school, but from what I've seen on the linguistic-percentage maps they fail at it.

The Welsh do better. in the north, a LOT better. If you go to Bangor or Anglesey or various valleys in north Wales, you will hear the young Welsh speaking in no English.

Whenever possible, when there's a sporting event I'm interested in on TV, I will find the local radio announcers and sync up the radio audio with the TV video.

Because most MFM sports presentations are, in the minds of the MFM, loss-leader promotional events for all the other TV show crap they try to foist on us.

See also: MFM nightly news broadcasts and all MFM-affiliated local news broadcasts as well. They're always hawking the latest show or whatever from whatever ConHugeCo media arm which is most closely affiliated with the "news" outlet.

In the east there's really no such thing as jaywalking. That seems to be a western thing. I'd seen signs for it and all but the first time I ever actually experienced a state with real "jaywalking" was California. I stepped into the street and all lanes of traffic came to an abrupt halt. I was flummoxed by it and couldn't figure out what their problems were. I used to get a kick out of it - just taking a step into the street (not even with any intention of walking across) and all traffic would stop. Weirdest thing I ever saw.

I kind of rushed through so the reactions were muted. There was one piece, I don't remember by whom, that was a forest in the winter with the sun rising. It was very beautiful, but at the same time a little demonic, IMHO. Plus, the Monets were lovely.

Still, I loved the arms and armor. Some of the muskets were gorgeous. Works of engineering skill and artistic mastery.

203 The thing about Kaepernick is yeah...maybe he should be on some roster...as the third QB.

But, it's not like the guy is outstanding. He had one great season, a couple of good-ish ones, and has been pretty meh otherwise.

Any other QB who wasn't the face of a movement or a civil rights "hero" would disappear from the league and no one would even remember them. See Vince Young; see Robert Griffin III. I don't see people saying Griffin should be on a roster somewhere. Where is the charge to restore him to a team?

208 Gallego is a Romance language, not Celtic. It's close to Portuguese. Although the Gallicians do claim to be Celtic by culture.

But then, the French sometimes claim to be Gauls.

Since the Italic language family was probably a Celtic spinoff to begin with, or so the linguists tell us, the is-it-Celtic-or-is-it-Romance issue might not matter as much for the Gallicians as it does for the Irish and the Welsh.

Tunein radio app . . . if you shell out the 8 bucks or so per month to get the premium, you get a lot of sports teams' local announcers.

I did a five year stint of school in Shrewsbury which was, like, right next to north Wales. So I'd spent a lot of time with sheepWelshmen. I've been to the lowlands of Scotland too, and British Cumbria. Also spent waaay too much time in Portugal, which I'd been told meant something like "the Galicia of Oporto (and points south)".

Haven't been as far north as Galicia and I didn't ever get to visit Ireland.

Gallego is a Romance language, not Celtic. It's close to Portuguese. Although the Gallicians do claim to be Celtic by culture.

But then, the French sometimes claim to be Gauls.

Since the Italic language family was probably a Celtic spinoff to
begin with, or so the linguists tell us, the
is-it-Celtic-or-is-it-Romance issue might not matter as much for the
Gallicians as it does for the Irish and the Welsh.

Posted by: boulder terlit hobo, make america whoop again

Well, Gallego/Galician is actually a Romance dialect. Though if you
take Gaeilge back far enough, you get Italo-Celtic. The language of the
Ogham stones is fascinatingly like both Gaulish and Latin.

270 I was in France once, watching TV late at night. I don't speak French. There was a commercial where a family in a car eas singing along with a song on the car radio, in English, and they SEEMED to be singing, "I want to fuck you in the ass! I want to fuck you in the ass!"

It was an ad for a language school. The tag line was, "isn't it time to find out what the words mean?"

Posted by: mnw at September 16, 2017 10:57 PM

One of my college professors shared that series with the class. They had others, also.

One had a man sitting in a radio room, with it storming outside, receiving a Mayday call in English that ended with "We are sinking."

"Well what are you sinking about?", says the Operator, in a thick European accent.

Oh, yeah, usually three NRL rugby games every weekend during Aussie winter (i.e. summer here.)

Of course, they start anywhere from 11 pm to 4 am on this side of the Pacific, but you can't have everything.

I started listening to 2GB during the last Presidential election, because Australia is about as far as you can get from the crazy here in the US. Of course, Australia has its own crazy, but it's not quite the same as the American crazy so it was basically an escape mechanism. And then I discovered the Continuous Call Team and the NRL (which is football without Colin Kapernick so yay).

I listen to them 'cause I need to listen to something in order to shut off my mind to fall asleep at night, so it's all good.

After the dog passed away and I adopted a stray cat that showed up the same day my dog passed, the cat would sit on the hood of my second car and wait for me to get home from work every day. She would come running and stretch up on my leg and work her claws on me and then follow me inside.

The bottom line is that if any NFL team thought that they would win their division with Kapernick, they would have brought him in, and choked down the PR hit with their fan base that they would have gotten for doing so.

But, he was let go as the starting quarterback for arguably the worst team in the league last year (okay, second-worst after the Browns), so all the owners took a look at his skill set, took a look at the circus he'd bring to their teams, and said "no, thanks, Colin, enjoy your retirement."

Gallego is not Gaelic. It sounds like Spanish spoken with all Portuguese sounds. (Or maybe they spoke Spanish to us with Portuguese sounds). I could barely make out anything.

323 But, he was let go as the starting quarterback for arguably the worst team in the league last year (okay, second-worst after the Browns), so all the owners took a look at his skill set, took a look at the circus he'd bring to their teams, and said "no, thanks, Colin, enjoy your retirement."
Posted by: filbert

His agent was talking with the Ravens about signing on last Spring, and then Kaepernick's girlfriend tweeted something equating the Raven's owner with a slave owner.
So that kind queered the deal.

Teams have enough trouble in the background, with stuff going on in the locker room. Kinda crazy to knowingly bring in someone who is gonna stir things up, that will at most be a marginal player on the team.

Yes, and it was retaken by Wolfe's army on its way to Quebec City although I think New Englanders were more pissed about dead from the Havana campaign around 1760 by the time of your revolution than about the 1745 trade back. BTW, sugar is alot more profitable than furs... even beaver!

335 Oh, yeah, usually three NRL rugby games every weekend during Aussie winter (i.e. summer here.)

Posted by: filbert at September 16, 2017 11:16 PM

Yeah, that version of Rugby (League rather than Union) has rules that were either intentionally or unintentionally (can't remember) borrowed from American gridiron... snaps, plays, drives 5 tackles/plays, then run on the last, score or punt. Which should make it easier to follow than regular Union rugby.

Learning about it gives a sober view. Just a couple of weeks ago, there were those idiots who tore down the Johnny Reb statue in Durham, NC. Did those ignoramuses really think the average Johnny Reb gave a fuck about slavery? Most were poor conscripts, and had more in common with Billy Yank on the other side than with the slave holder on the plantation. I love history (sexually!) and it grinds my gears when people try to make it simple, when it's lived by people dealing with complexities no easier than we see today.

It is more than that, erasing history will not make anything better- all it will do is erase people's connections to the mistakes of the past.

469 For Shelby Foote fans, YouTube has a number of interviews with him including a rather long one done as a book segment on C-SPAN with Brian Lamb. The interviews aren't only about the Civil War. Besides the historical information, I can listen to Foote's wit and cultured drawl any time.

In some ways Foote makes me think of that description in Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land:

"I am an almost extinct breed, an old-fashioned gentleman- which means I can be a cast-iron son-of-a-bitch when it suits me."

I think the borders for CW2 (if it were to come to pass) would be easily defined: big city limits. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

And the cities are fighting a losing battle. Everything about technology is making cities more and more irrelevant. Sure, hipster douchebags love flocking back to the cities their parents fled (back when there actually were reasons for cities to exist and function) but the main utility of big cities, these days, is to serve as targets for the jihad and to serve anti-American political blocs. Almost none of the traditional functions of cities are still operative.

Posted by: musical jolly chimp at September 17, 2017 12:23 AM (AxFdW)

My recollection is that Miles Davis is not really of the era that the series covered. I have heard other complaints, like Burns completely neglected Cab Calloway, despite him being one of the biggest record sellers of the 1930's. And I think the answer boils down to one of time. Burns had X hours of time available and many, many more hours of material to fill it. So, no matter who/what he left out, he was bound to piss off somebody.

The end of the USC/Texas game was worth staying up to watch. A frosh walk-on kicked the game-winner. Neither are still truly relevant on the national scene.

Aaron Rodgers is a worthless little cuck with his PC virtue signalling with Kaepernick. The reason why Kaepernick isn't signed is that any NFL offense would have to be retooled to deal with his strengths (running ability, throwing on the run) and negating his weaknesses (he can't read defenses in the pocket and bolts at the 1st sign of trouble).

When I see those jackasses disrespect the flag, I think of my great uncle who survived WWII and Korea, shot down 3 Germans and 2 North Korean MIGs only to die testing the F-100 Super Sabre. I never got to meet him. I think of 8 friends from flight school who died in crashes, a friendly fire incident and some on the side of a mountain in Afghanistan.

I've shut off the NFL and only pay attention tangentially, if it all. I just can't watch those overpaid, spoiled nimrods disrespect the memory of so many dear to me that gave their lives for this nation.

Of course, nobody needed, or wanted an iPhone X in 1957. Two-way radio and walkie talkies existed, and were used by those who needed them. Ham radio operators could communicate across oceans reliably. Radio telephones existed, for use in remote areas.

And the vacuum tube computers standardized logic operations that are still used in digital devices today. The vacuum tube computers proved that rapid digital computing was practical, and stimulated the research into cheaper, faster solid-state devices. In fact, 1957 saw solid-state flip-flops rapidly replacing vacuum tube flip-flops. Transistors were invented in 1948, IIRC, and were well-established in the marketplace by 1957.

Had transistors not been invented, we would likely have seen "integrated vacuum circuits" with hundreds of vacuum tube sub-units and associated circuitry inside a single vacuum bulb. Look up "compactrons".

With the highest respect to your Great Uncle, might I ask... that F-100 crash, the classic Sabre Dance, or from other means?

Those Century Series jets were damn near as dangerous to their pilots as they were to the enemy. And that's the same generation of pilots from which we selected our first Mercury Astronauts.

That was not a generation of pajama boys.

By the way. My late Uncle was a USAF Test Pilot at Edwards AFB. He was one of the Instructor Pilots for the Friendship Seven, but missed the cut by being three years too old for the program.

Test piloting didn't kill him directly, but the stress related heart attack that DID kill him, was a close second.

As for the NFL? I've modified my abeyance thereof, only to watch Texans games this year. J.J. Watt's sterling example deserves the Neilsen data from my cable box.

The rest of the league though? They can copulate with rabid donkeys, for all I care.

Their value as centers of manufacturing has been dying for many decades and has all but vanished. Relocate a few libraries and museums and their importance drops to zero. Their sole importance is as centers of political and cultural power. In their arrogant assumption of superiority they are destroying themselves as the rest of the country turns against them or ignores them. The MSM faces ever dwindling numbers. How many hundreds of thousands have dropped cable, especially because of the news outlets and ESPN. The NFL and NBA are increasingly ignored and they were considered unassailable.

From Louisville. Louisville has these gigantic portraits of former residents plastered on the side of buildings downtown. I have seen the Jennifer Lawrence one. Kind of funny when you think about what she thinks of the people there (although I think Jefferson county and a neighboring county are the only two counties in Kentucky to go for Hillary!)

560 Mother! Is the Worst Movie of the Year, Maybe Century
By Rex Reed 09/15/17 3:00pm

From the idiotic drug-addict hokum Requiem for a Dream to the overrated, overwrought and over-hyped Black Swan, which I called a lavishly staged Repulsion in toe shoes, the films of wack job Darren Aronofsky have shown a dark passion for exploring twisted souls in torment. But nothing he's done before to poison the ozone layer prepared me for mother!, an exercise in torture and hysteria so over the top that I didn't know whether to scream or laugh out loud. Stealing ideas from Polanski, Fellini and Kubrick, he's jerrybuilt an absurd Freudian nightmare that is more wet dream than bad dream, with the subtlety of a chainsaw.

This delusional freak show is two hours of pretentious twaddle that tackles religion, paranoia, lust, rebellion, and a thirst for blood in a circus of grotesque debauchery to prove that being a woman requires emotional sacrifice and physical agony at the cost of everything else in life, including life itself. That may or may not be what Aronofsky had in mind, but it comes as close to a logical interpretation as any of the other lunk-headed ideas I've read or heard. The reviews, in which a group of equally pretentious critics frustratingly search for a deeper meaning, are even nuttier than the film itself. Using descriptions like hermeneutic structure, phantasmagoric fantasia, cinematic Rorshach test and extended scream of existential rage, they sure know how to leave you laughing.

Although you will spend most of the painful, torturous and stressful two hours it takes to survive mother! trying to figure out what its all about, I advise you to ignore the reviews entirely and make up your own fantasy. One critic says its a satire on the chaos the dysfunctional world has been turned into by Donald Trump. Another says the title refers to the role played by Jennifer Lawrence, the directors current personal squeeze and cinematic muse, whom he slobbers over in endlessly annoying close-ups that emphasize her flaws and rob the viewer of the power of self-discovery. One reviewer says she plays the quintessential Earth mother who works feverishly to restore balance to a planet Earth that is being constantly torn apart by wickedness and savagery. I love the review that compares the movie to the lancing of a boil. They all insist mother! is a metaphor for something, although they are not quite sure what it is. The only thing I agree with is that the film is indeed original. I admired the camerawork, the wide-angle close-ups of flaring nostrils, and the pandemonium of the crowd scenes in the second half of the film when it goes haywire and insanity reign. Its an odd sensation to still remember moments of technical brilliance in a movie I never want to see again. The actress face occupies a full 66 minutes of the 120-minute running time, so I've seen quite enough of her, too.

Lawrence, a woman restrained almost to the point of madness, lives in a creepy, remote mansion in the middle of nowhere with her husband (Javier Bardem), a rugged poet who refuses to give her a baby or even take her to bed. (Can a sensitive poet with erectile function also be an alpha male? Just asking.) As she grows more understandably neurotic every day, the house is invaded by nameless strangers (Ed Harris and gorgeous Michelle Pfeiffer, looking unbelievably haggard) who interrupt the woman's idyllic life with rude questions about sex, marriage, and why she isn't trying harder to procreate. Every effort to throw them out is thwarted by her husband, who craves attention and idolatry from his fans. Then their two sons arrive, bringing violence and mayhem. Dishes smash. Furniture is demolished. A murder is committed. A mysterious bloodstain appears on the floor, opening up a hole to the story below. Soon the house in filled with mourners, all encouraged to stay as long as they like by the husband, who ignores his wifes ensuing breakdown. Aronofsky derives tension from strange sounds and occurrences: a dying bee, a hot frying pan, an exploding light bulb covered with blood, filmed with unbearable tedium. As the uninvited guests grow in number, wrecking the plumbing, flooding the house with water, and littering the rooms with garbage, you begin to suspect there's more to this depravity than misguided hospitality. Lawrence goes nuts before the audience does, displaying a remarkable talent for screaming Stop! at the top of her lungs, something I wished I had thought of first.

Just when you think she's had all she can take, there's more. A baby is born amidst blood-curdling screams of childbirth as Lawrence crawls over piles of corpses in labor, and unruly mobs carrying torches arrive in a scene that looks based on the Charlottesville riots. In the ultimate destruction of the female gender, Lawrence tries to save the baby she has always dreamed of to make life complete, but Fellini grotesques in preposterous Halloween costumes fill the screen and burn the house down. The New York Times critic arrogantly warns in his review: Don't listen to anyone who natters on about how intense or disturbing it is. Sorry, pal, but a mob that burns a screaming baby and its mother alive, then turns cannibal, eats the baby and rips its heart out to flush down the toilet while Patti Smith sings about the end of the world pretty much fits my definition of both intense and disturbing. What's yours?

Nothing about mother! makes one lick of sense as Darren Aronofskys corny vision of madness turns more hilarious than scary. With so much crap around to clog the drain, I hesitate to label it the Worst movie of the year when Worst movie of the century fits it even better.

MOTHER!

Fallout is actually a pretty libertarian kind of world.

Essentially, the rational for tech in that universe is twofold:

1) Nuclear power use is WIDESPREAD. Small reactors, big reactors, nuclear powered small craft- even cars in the later stages. Fusion power is even developed.

2) The transistor was not invented in 1948. Tech uses vacuum tubes for everything. It is the rationale for having the 50's retro look to everything.

581 Fenelon, yup.

What's craziest (and this may reflect far more on me than on JLaw or Aronofsky) is, I think 'mother!' has some intriguing ideas behind it; in the right hands, it could have been a great mashup of Rosemary's Baby and The Shining. But no, Darren just had to go and get his Christian hate on, and indulge in all his most pretentious arteestic touches to boot.

582 Fenelon, in running errands today I drove past a mowed field on the edge of town with a couple of cats staked out in it, looking for mice of course.

On the way back one of them had a mouse in its mouth picking its way off the field. Big enough to be a gopher I guess.

Pynchon proved earning his keep is easy, but keeping it down may be another kettle of . . . mouse parts.

For simple digital switches, they could have been made a whole lot smaller. And cold-cathode tubes had been invented, which eliminated both a major power requirement, and a major heat source.

And transistors eventually would have been invented, anyway. As the demands for processing capacity, and miniaturization increased, somebody would have figured out how to make crystals amplify. IIRC, back in the 1920's, some experimenters had made oscillators using zinc oxide. They didn't know how it worked, but it worked. And the kind of physics chops needed to make viable mini-nuclear reactors and fusion reactors would have guaranteed that the background math and quantum theory needed to make transistors was already known.

Good kitties.

My house is old too and it's on a ranch. I think the house is locked up tight but the mice must get under the doors in the screened porch, there's also drain holes in the porch. I've had 3 dead mice in the past 2 weeks. I think the steel wool I shoved in the holes is rusted or the mice or cats pulled it out. I bought copper stuff to shove in there. I need to do that tomorrow.

610 my genius decided to make a blind left turn across on coming traffic in her POS Chevy 4 door. *THEN* he slowed down so as to not jostle Mom going up the driveway slope: bad idea.

i was in an C230 4 door. tagged them *just* behind the center pillar on Mom's side, which saved her from all sorts of bad juju, and sent them into a lamp post.

i went from having 2 empty lanes to chose from to "OH SHIT!"

good news for me was, besides being in a MB, was that i decided years ago, after air bags came out, to not hold the wheel at 10-2 as was drilled into me, nor to wrap my fist around the rim of the wheel.

since i was holding it at 8-4, and with my fingers unwrapped, all i got from the AB deployment was some ringing in the ears, a small scab on one forearm and redness on the other, and NO broken fingers or wrist, which is what usually happens to people when they go off.

Posted by: CaliGirl at September 17, 2017 02:29 AM (Ri/rl)

622 buzzion and otho, yup.

Would have been far better IMHO for someone like Aronofsky to put his script in a drawer somewhere, take a break for a few years, then take it back out and see if 'mother!' is something really worthwhile to do, rather than work himself into a frenzy over Trump/Christianity/whatever and insist on jumping right from 'Noah' to this project.

IMHO it's a major sign of a filmmaker who's lost perspective and come to love the smell of his own farts.

Seems like it. I rather like The Wrestler, quite a lot actually. It's well done and well told, though Rourke really could account for a lot of that. It does veer into overwrought territory, here and there, but overall it's heartfelt and engaging. I thought the director might go on to bigger things after that, but apparently that means pretentiousness.

Well, you probably don't want it "fixed" after that. Many of the crumple zones in the body will have been crumpled, and it is not easy to properly repair or replace them all. It might be possible to make the car look good again, but its ability to protect you the same way in a future wreck might be compromised.

Now, I must hit the sack.

633 "May I suggest a 2nd reading of your comments especially if you choose to discuss violence. There has been one deletion, I should have deleted one earlier and not sure how many more there are out there.

Friendly reminder to watch the talk of violence. Thanks that is all you can carry on."

Here's a question for you, MH. If the police aren't willing to use retaliatory violence against those who are using violence against both them and uninvolved civilians, who is going to be in control of the streets? I'd cite you both Douglas MacArthur and Robert Heinlein on the absolute necessity for the use of sanctioned violence to maintain the law but you've probably already read them. To quote Tolkien's Merry Brandybuck, "You won't rescue Lotho, or the Shire, just by being shocked and sad, my dear Frodo."

We're dealing with people who have no qualms about using violence to get their wishes. If the law enforcement authorities don't think they have the support of the normal people in this country, they'll shrink back from enforcing the law and then we're on the fast track to anarcho-tyranny at best and Iran at worst. They already ARE doing that in some places (Chicago and Detroit, among others).

The police should KNOW the popular zeitgeist accepts the necessity of law enforcement forcefully suppressing violent protests and lawbreaking. Ask yourself this, MH: if they don't do it, who do you expect is going to do so? Are YOU going to step up to the plate with a gun in your hand? Or are you simply willing to cede power to those who will use violence to seize it?
Are you willing to even answer those questions or are you just going to wait to be overcome by events?

As for the jerk who stated I was new here and didn't fit in, I've been posting here for at least ten years. Incidentally, the other poster who stated that the blog was almost destroyed when "Mabel Galior" was a coblogger nailed it. Ace was either smart or lucky to get rid of him.

If you're going to be answering questions, you might also provide an answer as to what happened to Where's the Rum?

I would highly recommend it but most people here seem to be poo-pooing it. I put it high on the list of best movies. I really liked The Fountain, though I can't remember much about it. 661 645 #625: Really? Even Marisa Tomei's tits didn't save that movie?

I never saw the movie, but I have seen the aforementioned tits, and they were pretty spectacular!

668 rule of thumb i've heard is that if you can see the thread on the main page, yer good to go.

i've never tested it.

669 The main page has all the headlines, you have to click over to the comments to read the comments.
Or to comment.
Banned, not, am I. Woo hoo!

670 I think I figured out that stupid weird New Yorker "victory" cover (to be run if The Hag had won). Because it made no sense on first glance.

http://tinyurl.com/y7wb7u5j

It's Red, Dark and Blue. Get it? The subdued light of Whitey is prominent and on the right, but it is clearly setting - its time has passed - and it will be going away just in time for a bright new dawn.

And for good measure she's wearing Commie Red.

Posted by: Mega at September 17, 2017 03:22 AM (rv0Fo)

671 the New Yorker cover has one thing wrong: no way she doesn't have a LOT more facial hair on the night of a moon.

at least that's what i said in a tweet to them...

Posted by: Mega at September 17, 2017 03:22 AM (rv0Fo)

Interesting.

I agree with you that it's an image of "passing" more than any sort of victory, and passing into the night, at that. I can't figure what the full moon is for. Lunacy? Menstruation? - not that Shrillary's been in that game for a few decades, now.

673 thinks you learn cruising The_Donald: Rosie O'D's ex-wife is dead...

apparent suicide. quel surprise.

also, funny how Hillary Clinton can't remember shit under questioning, but still managed to write* a 500+page book about the same general time frame.

It seems a bit too disjointed and completely unhinged to be completely ghostwritten. Most likely she dictated it.

676 True Story:
HRC gets word that RBG has passed suddenly, and calls DJT in the Oval Office:

HRC: As i'm sure you have heard by now, Ruth has passed away, and, as a woman, I would be honored to take her place.

DJT: Wow! I'm impressed with your generosity and self-sacrifice. If it's okay with the mortuary and the family, I have no objections.

677 One attempt to explain 666 is that it is the numerical value of "Ceaser Nero", supported by the fact that there are manuscripts with 616, an alternate value for his name. I prefer the explanation that 777 is the number of perfection, and that satan is an impostor, always trying to counterfeit that, but never quite able to, hence 666. He's like Hillary or Bernie trying to explain how they will bring about utopia. NO.

678 Another good thing is that the Civil War series was immensely popular. It opened the door for a lot of kids to learn about history (it was shown in our high school by our history teacher.) This is not a bad thing.

Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at September 17, 2017 12:12 AM (rb1zT)

I watched Burns' series because I like to watch history shows hoping to learn new tidbits. Burn's Civil War series had me a little bored.

An example: I was watching the series with the ex. At one point, they said the word 'Shiloh' and I turned to her and said, 'The Peach Orchard'. A couple of sentences later, we heard about how 'the peach blossoms fell like snow on the dead' or something to that poetic effect. My ex turned to me and asked, 'How do you know that?' Me: 'What? You mean it's not common knowledge?'

Like I said, I was somewhat bored by the series. But I guess being raised in Virginny and visiting battlefields all across the South from the time I was a wee lad may just have something to do with that 'boredom' I experienced with the series.

What's left to say? She bumped uglies with Rosie. I'd kill myself if that ever happened. Wouldn't you?

680 I fear that the VN film will glorify the deserters, dodgers, resisters, and Yippies. The role and misjudgements of Johnson, McNamara et al in the conduct of the war will likely be downplayed.

I expect it to be portrayed as a series of misjudgements by the military.

You can be certain that Burns will not address the aftermath.

Plus, a certain veteran and Senator from Arizona will probably be given a lot of camera time.

681 I would never get involved with her in first place.

Unfortunately for me, I know way more about this person that I ever wanted.

1. Her first GF left her and married a man.
2. Her second GF left her and married a man.
3. Her son basically repudiates everything she stands for by running off and joining the Army.
4. Her daughter runs off and marries a man.
5. Now her "wife" commits suicide.

The chain of life events is tragic under any circumstances. That none of this seems to effect the hatred in her heart and instead reinforces it suggest to me that she is seriously mentally ill.

This is what a progressive permissive society allows. This is the end result of giving up the cultural war and concentrating on money issues.

In my opinion only. This should be construed as talking for anyone else.

690 I watched parts of a couple of college games yesterday. It seems like the new thing for announcers is to have a discussion the entire time there is any review, or even if there isn't, of the ref calls.

It's getting tiresome to watch.

Madame Felonia would be a great spokesperson for a medical alert device company. "Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!" as the ad shows 'Side of Beef' Hillarity! being unceremoniously chucked into her Scoobie van after her little freeze-up.

I'd also wager Madame Felonia doing a liquor company ad would be a hit, too. Of course, all the other booze companies will get the sadz.

Oh yeah, and Tabasco ads. She's a natural for that.

Considering that one (of many) hideous outfits she wore, I was thinking Kirby vacuum cleaner bags. They could do a Memorex type ad: 'Is it Hillary! or a Kirby vacuum? If it sucks, it must be a Kirby!'
