Breitbart Had A Point: Why You Should Read The Comments: Example #43,091

Memorize this and recite it to your liberal friends when they wax poetic about the joys of open borders and Dreamers and Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, and the rest of the progressive cant that is in reality a thinly veiled attempt to destroy American Exceptionalism.

Thank you Muldoon!

Welcome one of your newest fellow citizens. Let's say just for the sake of discussion that this is a hypothetical scenario:

46 year old woman. Gets pregnant. No father listed on birth certificate. Unemployed, gets no prenatal care, presents to hospital in labor, baby born slightly premature and very small size. Has Down syndrome. Has significant medical abnormalities. Will probably be hospitalized for weeks to months in intensive care. May need major surgery. Mother speaks not a word of English. Immigration status? Who knows, not allowed to ask. Mom on Medicaid. Baby on Medicaid.

Where is the responsibility of this woman who is old enough to know better? Where is the responsibility of the father who gets his pleasure with no skin in the game? Where is the responsibility of this mother's nation of origin who outsourced her dependency onto us? Where is the concern from our politicians for the taxpayers, the hardworking citizens of this country who are going to pay for this child's medical care for years to come? Where is a simple thank you America, for being kind hearted and generous. But no, the Dreamers have a dream. Screw the taxpayer and his/her dreams. Screw the future of the taxpayer's child and his/her dreams. This woman and her child are entitled to the sweat of your brow, comrade!

9 Actually, Muldoon's example has nothing to do with the whole Dreamers thing. With the baby getting born on American soil, it is automatically a citizen under our anchor baby school of constitutional interpretation.

Change the story. Let the baby be born in Mexico. Then, when the child is 7 years old, the mother drags him into the good old USA. Dreamer!!! Now the lad is on the path to legalization and, in all likelihood, citizenship.

The Dreamer policy mean that an illegal just has to get here before the kid is 18 (or whatever age can plausibly be described as 1 in order to get some of that anchor baby goodness.

===

This interpretation , while currently accepted, is a horribly twisted and easily defeated falsehood.

Reading deeper into immigration law (and not progtarded "precedent" ) the law was intended to grant citizenship to the child - after he and his parent were removed and sent back to their original country, the child could return at 18 and claim citizenship.

The strict interpretation of the law is that the infant should not be able to claim any status at all. The infant is simply the dependant of an illegal alien until they are 18.

Yeah. I know.

32
The saddest thing is that our politicians never pick up a tax booklet and look at the amount of federal taxes those at the lowest rung have to pay. Immigration cost has a disproportionate impact on them.

First when the job they want over the table becomes under the table. Second, the cost of those on the dole has to be paid by someone. Two thousand dollars in taxes is nothing to the liberal with his nose in the air, the 'Hate Has No Home' sign on the front lawn living in the gated community. To those at the bottom it's a huge amount.

Empathy is a Goldilocks problem, too little is bad, too much is worse, somewhere in the middle is 'just right'. Safety net, not safety hammock.

right ... and since they debased our currency, the billionaires made their wealth by getting government (the faith and credit that is US) to underwrite their high leverage gambles. They bought enough politicians to keep the party going the last eight years (TARP could have paid off those bad home loans and left people in the house, instead it was confiscated by banksters) --- kept Obama bizarro world afloat with zero interest and $4T QE.

So we CAN "afford it" ... till they break the currency, and some global cabal puts their NWO currency and global governance in place. Meanwhile middle class gets screwed on many levels, including health care costs and reduced care.

The weed seeds of our demise are planted, but till they choke us out DC will continue playing Santa Claus. They needed a balanced budget amendment long ago, but chose to chain future children to their debts instead. Other ways they get screwed: Inflation. You let a bunch of locusts despoil grocery stores with their EBT cards, and food prices go up. Another form of redistribution.

Or, the recent tax hike in Illinois to try to assuage the pension debacle. That cracks me up.

People allow their state government to make lavish deals with unions and go into debt, for years, because it doesn't impact their taxes directly.

Then all of a sudden, "Oopsie! Looks like we're in debt. We're going to have to raise taxes. Sorry."

Of course that was the plan all along.

SS is about $1,000 a month max if I remember correctly from what elderly relatives collect. Also your Medicare premiums come out of that SS check - if you are old enough to collect SS at the normal age of 65 you also HAVE to sign up for medicare too.

For the working elderly who paid into the SS system it doesn't pay for an RV or a Harley.

Public pensions on the other hand, each person collecting one or more of those gets thousands of dollars per week. For life. With 3% cost of living annual increases, so after about 24 years they are doubling their cash per week.

A citizen is a person of majority age who has the right (and the duty) to participate in the government of of a state.

A resident just happens to reside in a geographical area at any time. Like a baby. Like a foreigner on a 3 week tour. Like a horse. Or a cockroach.

Feudal society in Western Europe was laden with all sorts of customs and rules that bound everyone, including the land-owners. There was a yuuuuuge respect for tradition, law, charters, and contracts.
Above all, there was a consensus that there was something higher than the State.

There used to be orchards all around where I live now (WCIL). I have an old picture of some of them. All gone now ... it could make a come back, but cheap labor and even cheaper imports makes starting any such long term enterprise very high risk. They tried to renew the wine grape industry in 2000, and soon came the wine glut and $2 buck chuck, and wine from Chile and the world became the new thing.

One surviving orchard sells at a reasonable price still ... it was a choice to go "global and open border", and it was not an America First choice.

Posted by: original jake at September 17, 2017 01:38 PM (mxOOF)

209 "Tillerson: Trump Open to Staying in Paris Climate Accord"

We are still IN the Paris accords, for all practical purposes.

Trump had three options. First was to stay in.

Second was to declare the accords as a proposed but unratified treaty, and send them to the Senate, where they would be most unlikely to pass. Then ignore them completely thereafter.

Third was to treat the accords as legit, but "withdraw" from them.

Trump chose option 3.

Except there is no immediate withdrawal option under Paris. Obama locked us in. As the snooty Eurocrats then informed Foggy Bottom, the USA is firmly stuck in it until 2020 at minimum. Which is the earliest date that the terms of eventual withdrawal can even begin to be negotiated! And may not be approved by the other parties to the deal.

And we may very well be liable to be sued at the Hague for noncompliance in the meantime. For nonpayment of the $100B/year we're supposed to be providing to Third World countries as climate reparations under the Paris terms.

236 Max Social Security is about $1600 a month (what my husband gets). I will be getting $1300. Medicare A is free. Medicare B is about $100 a month paid quarterly. Before you hit retirement, you are capped at earning $22k a year. The year youhit retirement, the cap lifts. Both my husband and I had spouses that didn't get a dime of what they paid in (died before retirement age). Forgive me if I fail to feel guilty about getting benefits. I didn't create the system and I did pay into it. My 401k went to pay taxes so we could keep the house, which is what we'll have to live on

245 196,
"it used to be the max SS was around $2400/mo (based on best ten years
income or something). I'm sure it is more now ... paying Medicare takes a
chunk out, but hey ... free health care for (expensive) aging folks.
(actually one needs the supplemental insurance for it to be free,
otherwise one must pay 20%)"

20% is the co-pay which is what the supplementals usually cover, there are different levels of supplementals, there are also deductibles (which some supplementals cover or lessen) annual ones and on a per treatment basis and the premiums and then there are the things which aren't covered but you don't know about them until months later when you get billed because Medicare denied payment on something which you and your doctor thought was covered. And then there is the "Part D" drug coverage which has its own co-pays - deductibles and labyrinth of what drugs are covered and at what level of co-pay - deductible.

I'm old enough to know what led to Medicare happening. In the old days, unless you had a job that you retired from that locked in your healthcare after retirement, old people usually would lose their health insurance one way or another after 65. My paternal grandmother lost her privately paid insurance that her husband had bought for many years after he died because the insurance company didn't cover widows. They were a bad risk. This type of thing is what led to Medicare being accepted as needed and put in place by the adults of the "Greatest Generation" not those hated "Boomers."

There are certain acids sold at big box home centers that are extremely caustic. I use them to clean cement or etch it prior to working on it. I've used it outside and seen a cloud of vapor rise six feet off a curb I'm working on. Nasty, nasty stuff.

SS wasn't a factor in our retirements, we (my ginger and I) took steps to provide that retirement funding separate from SS.

And so we did win our personal war against poverty, we aren't rich, but we ARE comfortable. Drawback is it takes constant attention (with the help of a financial advisor) to maintain.

Sen. John McCain is adding his buddy Sen. Lindsey Graham to the list of possible reasons why his line of questioning to former FBI Director James Comey during a hearing in June was so disjointed and confusing.

. . . .

But as McCain, R-Ariz., would tell it now, he had a list of questions he was ready to ask Comey as the ex-FBI chief testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, but then Graham, R-S.C., disrupted that train of thought when he asked an aide to deliver a message to McCain with a question he wanted McCain to ask Comey.

"I had these questions laid out that I had discussed and, honest to God, two minutes before it was my turn, [the aide] hands me this app from Lindsey," McCain told Esquire.

In school, despite all the lab courses I took, I only had one accident. No one was hurt, it was just funny- because no one got hurt. We were doing the organic course on identification. I was following the text on making an amine derivative and it called for the slow addition of (IIRC fuming sulfuric) to the small amount of compound I had in a test tube. I slowly (I thought) added the acid and great billowing clouds of HCL started coming from the tube. I stepped back and slammed the fume hood door down and watched as the greenish cloud filled the hood.

After the cloud was ventilated, I opened the hood to find my plastic pencil had been melted to the hood counter and my chemistry notebook had all the carbon pages bled through.

I learned that when the text calls for a slow addition, they mean really slow- drop by drop.

306 But as McCain, R-Ariz., would tell it now, he had a list of questions he was ready to ask Comey as the ex-FBI chief testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee, but then Graham, R-S.C., disrupted that train of thought when he asked an aide to deliver a message to McCain with a question he wanted McCain to ask Comey.

"I had these questions laid out that I had discussed and, honest to God, two minutes before it was my turn, [the aide] hands me this app from Lindsey," McCain told Esquire.

"Ask him what his favorite show tune is. Also, what he's doing after the hearing."

Addition of concentrated sulfuric acid to anything containing water (an aqueous solution, or just something can readily dehydrate) has to be done very slowly, and with powerful cooling.

That sounds like what happened in your case. I doubt it was HCl coming off, unless your compound was a hydrochloride salt of an amine, in which case you wouldn't be adding an acid to it to generate an amine adduct.

The greenish gas (if that's correct) sounds like chlorine gas, but in that case your compound was presumably a hypochlorite. Not likely in the circumstances.

Cures for certain types of cancer. Organ transplants. Pediatric and in-utero surgery for infants who would have died. Better birth control and contraceptives. Better anaesthetics. Cures for polio, smallpox, measles, mumps, rubella and whooping cough. The internet. Solar energy. Gene therapy. The end of the Berlin Wall. The end of the Vietnam War. The fall of communism. Seat belts, Mothers against drunk driving. The end of Jim Crow laws. To name a few. We didn't get everything right. nobody does. But we didn't get everything wrong, either.

Don't hate us because we worked longer than you - any dough we collect now is a fraction of what we paid in over the years, that your grandparents collected. so lighten up, and stop the generational hate - this system wasn't meant to support the chain migration of illegals who didn't pay a cent into the system. I was a single mom going to grad school and couldn't afford health insurance, but I spent hours interpreting for illegal immigrants who got free health care, free medicine, and sometimes even free transportation. One young woman had come to the US when she was seven months pregnant. She was 19, the father was still in Mexico, and she was looking for an anchor baby. The baby had problems, but invisible ones which the Mexican health system wouldn't have caught. Her baby was having seizures and the Indian doctor recommended it be put on daily doses of morphine or some REALLY strong drug. Some drug I would NEVER have given my baby especially when the baby looked and acted fine. Mom and baby got free health care, free transportation and similary benefits. Her baby is probably on disability right now. But I can remember her looking at that sweet baby as if she hated it; she, and everyone else, would have been better off is she had stayed in Mex.

You all do realize that little rant is nothing more than good feelz - liberal style - except for conservatives, and very much "You kids get off my lawn" in substance.

Seriously, what the fuck is the point of that, exactly ?

Should that person and their partner in crime have been more responsible ? Sure. And ? Are you proposing some way to instill said responsibility in the future ? Uh, no.

I'm really tired of the bitching about shit like that. You want to oppose illegal immigration ? Great. You want to build the wall ? Great, so do I. But what actual solution do you propose that would somehow have changed this very situation for the better ?

I already know the answer: Not a fucking thing, that's what. So if you're not part of the solution ? You're part of the problem. Stop being part of the problem.

373 Here's how government healthcare is going to work: You're an american citizen following the rules, paying your taxes. You take reasonably good care of yourself and stay mostly healthy. Then you retire. A few years later, you get cancer. The American NHS will offer you pain pills to see you through your death because they've already spend your healthcare money on illegal aliens, abortions and sex change operations. - and you're kinda old and not paying tax, and probably an icky raciss white person.
